Dan Mitchinson: US correspondent on Donald Trump's meeting with Canadian prime minister Mark Carney

Canadian prime minister Mark Carney says his country and the US are in the process of re-defining their relationship.

He's been at the White House talking trade and Canadian sovereignty with Donald Trump.

US correspondent Dan Mitchinson says Carney made it clear that Canada was not for sale - but Trump is still hopeful this will change.

Dan Mitchenson, US correspondent with US Now, Hey, Dan, Hey,
hither so Connie and Trump was friendly, was lovely. Everybody's happy.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yeah, well, I guess that's one way of putting it.
I mean, and I know this may come as a surprise,
but I mean the president in Canada don't have the
best of relationships right now. But as you heard the
president there on the world wires say, you know, it's
lots of people in Canada. And what was really interesting
up until the time of this meeting, he kept saying

to the media he wasn't sure why they were having
this meeting. I mean, we knew that it was going
to be about trade and getting to know one another.
But you know, the Canada PM McCartney said, you know,
our country is not going to be sale forever. And
Trump is still telling reporters this should be the fifty
first state, and he says he wants his friendship. But
at the same time he's seen, well we'll see, maybe

you will be the fifty first state.

It's a jug yep.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Most of us would say yes, Does the president take
it seriously? One thinks he probably does to some extent.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Dan, maybe yes, if he's taking it. Seriously, how is
he going to make Canada the fifty first date?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
That is the million dollar question that I wish I
had the answer for, Heather, but nobody does at the moment.
He's repeating it.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
It's a joke.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Well, let's hope it is. Let's hope it is.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Oh my gosh, Dan, it's obviously a joke, and you
know it, Dan.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Why would he keep repeating a joke that doesn't have
anybody laughing?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Well, because he's laughing because he didn't care what we think,
and he's a buffoon and an idiot. He thinks it's funny.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
I guess, so I guess. Anyway, they both they both
are saying that there's going to be changes to the
agreement between our country and that the one that we
also have with Mexico when that comes up for renegotiation
cast here. So that was the main and you know
point out of this.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Whole this Trump joke thing is a bugbear of mine. Actually,
I'm going to come back to this later in the program,
even have to deal with this again when Dan isn't listening.
But hey, this is good, right that the US and
the Hoofi's have agreed to stop bombing each other.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Well, yeah, that was another thing that came out of
this meeting today. The President announced that, you know, they
don't want to fight anymore. He said that, you know
that we're going to honor that, we being the US,
and he said that. He also informed the military to
stop its attacks a little while ago. We're going to
see how this comes together right now, but the President
says this, this announcement isn't quite a deal, but they're

working on making it a deal. So take that for
whatever it may or may not mean at this point.
But like you said, I mean, it's at least it's
a good you know, first in the right direction. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Hey, So what's Caroline Leavett's problem with CNN apart from
all the problems that the White House has with CNN.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Well, I mean, this is because they had a report
of that traveled south of the border to get the
perspective of an infamous drug cartel that continues to get
you know, human trafficking and drugs into the country and
it was designated as a terrorist group at the start
of the second term for the president. Yeah, and so
the White House Press Secretary was scrolling through me. She
had no idea this was going on, and she said,

I was going through my Instagram feed came across the interview,
and she said, this is just blowing us away that
they're designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the US government,
and the nature of the questions and the fact that
CNN would be doing this as just atrocious. Well, I
mean Fox would have done the same thing. Any network
would have done the same thing. Sixty minutes would have
done the same thing. But I think it's just the
white Dan.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Is her problem with the fact that they interviewed these
guys at all, or is it with the way they
interviewed them, in the tone and the treatment.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I think it's a little bit of both. Right now.
I think she found the nature of the questions perhaps
more offensive than she did the actual interviewing of this
organization right now, and she's saying that this just you know,
throws the trust of the so called legacy media you know,
under the bus once again, which she claims is at
an all time low. Hey, Dan, just for just so

you know, I will be listening a little bit later
to hear what you have to.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Say, Dan, Belust, Are you going to okay? Tune in
at five twenty five Dan Paul has text and said
it's a bloody joke and I'm laughing, and has text
in and said that he's laughing at you because you
don't think it's a joke. So there's at least two
people plus Donald Trump.

You know what, I'm married with two kids. I'm used
to be laughed at, So you know, take your best shot.
