Speaker 1 (00:00):
And finally this is safe for the kids. Don't worry,
We're going to talk about this just in generality. Is okay.
There is a two hundred year old condom which is
going on display at a museum in Amsterdam. The thing
is made of a sheep's appendix. It's believed to date
all the way back to eighteen thirty and it's decorated
(00:21):
with some erotic images and may have been a souvenir
from a brothel.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
International correspondence with Ends and Eye Insurance, Peace of Mind
for New Zealand business.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Can I tell you it is worth a little Google
search later just to have a look at that, because look,
you know, two hundred years some science hasn't moved on
a lot, is all I'm going to say. Maybe don't
Google it off your work computer or not. Don't Yeah,
don't do it at work. Don't do it in front
of the kids, because then you have to explain a
bunch of stuff. But later on, just have a little
peek at that, and it's not going to it's not
(00:52):
going to like if you're help, I never mind. I'm
just going do it. Do it by yourself. Dan Mitchard's
a US correspondence with you now, Dan Allo.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Oh oh wow, oh.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah, you're googling it. Some technology doesn't change.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Does it.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
No, it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Isn't it wild that they went to the effort of
putting a picture on it?
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Look at that quite a detail thing.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Like if they put a picture on one in twenty
twenty five, I'd be wildly impressed. But to do that
in eighteen thirty, that's like, that's impressive, isn't it?
Speaker 3 (01:23):
That is that is good?
Speaker 1 (01:25):
On then yeah, go and have a look at that there,
Dan's Dean's with ye appetite for it? Dan elon Mass
what's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Boy Ah? I mean yeah, I was kind of surprised
he came out and was so vocal about this. You know,
he just said, I'm sorry, I just can't stand this
anymore about the the the President's you know, as you mentioned,
the worldwide is one big, beautiful bill, and he says
it's going to boost the federal deficit. He says, it's
it's outrageous, it's massive, it's pork filled, and it's just
(01:55):
it's disgusting. But what's interesting, I think is that this
came what two days after cbsair this big interview in
which he said that the whole legislative package backed.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
By President Trump kind of undermines Doge.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
And then the White House is coming off and saying, well, hey,
Musk is ron to say this, and the President was
aware of this, and Elon knew what this was going
into it. So it's just sort of back and forth.
But it's just this relationship, like we talked about last week,
is just kind of deteriorating, I think in front of
the media a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Is it deteriorating as he goes on, or like the
more he says, is it getting worse and worse or
is it already bad and he's just letting us see
it now? Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I think he's letting us see it now. I don't
know why he's letting us see it.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Lest you see it, Dan, because I'm going to get
conspiratorial on it. But the alignment that Elon Musk has
Elon Musk's alignment with the White House has obviously resulted
in a business backlash for him that has not played
well for his business stealings.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Is he trying to distance himself from Donald Trump in
a way, perhaps to redeem himself.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I think that's what he's trying to do.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I think that's what a lot of his shareholders have
been asking him to do while he's been taking up
on this position right now. But you know, I mean,
is it a little too late. It's hard to say
when you're as wealthy as he is and you lose
billions and billions of dollars like he has since he
took over this job for his various companies. I mean,
maybe it's just a drop in the bucket for him,
and maybe it's great publicity too.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah, well, we'll see how this plays out. I don't
know if it's going to work. And listen the White
House portrait, what do you think?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
You know, the first one that they had was just
very eerie. I mean, it was just a very strange portrait.
And then they came up with this new one that
was unveiled, and it's lacking two things which I hadn't
even thought about as soon as I saw it until
I read into this. And one, he wasn't smiling. He
didn't have a happy expression. You know, Americans loved to smile, right,
we have to show our teeth. And it didn't have
an American flag in the background. And This is now
(03:52):
being hung in all our federal buildings, and it's on
the White House's website too. And I don't think we've
had a portrait like this since Nixon was just in
front of a plane backdrop in nineteen sixty sixty nine,
nineteen seventy or so. But yeah, it's still it's it's
a better picture. It's just not flattering, and it's right
next to J. D. Vance and he's got the American
(04:12):
flight behind him and he's smiling, and it's the kind
of portrait you would expect.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
It's still I would describe it as. The problem with
the first portrait was that Donald was lit from the
bottom right, so he it looked a little It was
just quite a strange look. The problem with this one
is obviously the dark background. It still looks kind of menacing.
Both of them look menacing, don't they.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
It does.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
There's a portion of his his face that's covered up
by shadows.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
And I don't know if this is intentional.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
From how awesome is his hair.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Oh, it's perfect.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
I mean that camera has caught in great detail what
he's doing there, hasn't it.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
It is it is. At first I was looking at
the paint.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
I thought, oh, this is a painting, This isn't a picture,
And then I look closer. This is a picture, isn't it?
Speaker 3 (04:53):
At the President?
Speaker 1 (04:54):
So it's a lot going on there. Hey, Dan, really
quickly before I let you go, just explain to me
quickly that Luigi Mangioni is due to here in court.
But why would he be in a bulletproof fist.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Well, I mean they're just doing just because of the
crime against the you know, the alleged murder of the CEO,
Brian Thompson outside of New York.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
So they're protecting him.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
But his lawyers are saying, well, if a guy walks
into a courtroom and he's got a vest and he's
wearing prison garb on it, that's going to kind of
prejudice everyone against him. So they're asking the judge can
they take it off? And back in February, the judge said, okay,
we don't need to have the handcuffs on, and then
the lawyers got together for a conversation and they said, well,
for security reasons, maybe it'd be better if this guy
was cuffed for the time being.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I can sort of see the arguments both ways. Dan,
Thanks very much appreciated. Dan Mitchison, US correspondent.
