D'Arcy Waldegrave: Sportstalk host on the sodden outfield disrupting Black Caps-Afghanistan cricket fixture

There's fears another day may go by without any start to the maiden cricket test between the Black Caps and Afghanistan.

Despite clear skies at Greater Noida - on the outskirts of Delhi in India - a sodden outfield means there's still been no toss for the one-off fixture.

An inspection has been scheduled for 6.30pm (NZT).

Sportstalk host D'Arcy Waldegrave says it's likely the match will be called off again.

up to Australia to play a few warm up games,
and I had a couple more T twenty I World
Cup for Women in United Arab Emirates in October, so
fifteen athlete squad has been named to go over there.
There's only one player who has not experienced World Cup

level before, so on a very experienced team. The issue
with this is this same very experienced team went to
England and got smalls. They've been terrible. I hate saying
this because I'm a fan of Cracker and the White
Ferns are great and they've provided me with so much entertainment.
But you look at it and go, wow, the results

aren't there and you're still running with the same athletes. Well,
what happens at the next level? This is what I'm
interested in. If you've got a number of these players,
and full respect to Divine and Baits and all these
players that have held on to their positions because plainly
there's no one coming up behind them that's pushing them out.
So the issue is at that next level where are

they at. Are they getting the correct funding, are they
playing in the right competitions, Are they being given the
tools to progress to the next level or are they not?
And if they're not, these athletes who are there now,
stay there forever, and all respect them because there's a
lot of tremendous athletes who have have done fantastic things,
but they're not doing them now. It's really hard to

swallow it. We don't talk to Melly Kerr later on
in the show about that about where the next level
of talent is coming to about because you always get
the same line, like, I know we're making improvements. There
are here at meetings and and so what are they

and how do you know it? Because to the public,
we're sitting there and go. You got pumped in the
one day Series three? Is that you got wiped off
