Meal deals have been a staple across UK retailers - and some outlets are offering consumers a new lunchtime option.

Companies like Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco are offering up salads, sandwiches, wraps, pasta and more - and non-alcoholic beer has entered the mix.

UK correspondent Enda Brady says this has been met with mixed reactions, with many labelling this move 'desperate'.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
In the Brady's Europe and UK correspondent in a good
evening to.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
You, Hey, Ryan, good to speak to you again.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
A really tragic story. Somebody has died. Is that a
child has died after a car in it up on
a rugby pitch.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yeah, this is absolutely shocking. Now immediately we're told by
the police it's not terror related. There's very little else
other information, but it's happened in the town of Kendall.
Now Kendall is a regional town. It's in Cumbria. It's
up in the far northwest of England, next up Scotland.
Basically Cumbria is beautiful. It has the lakes up there

(00:36):
and a key part at the heart of the community
in Kendall is the Rugby Union Club. Now I'm told
there was under sixteens and just before five pm a
black BMW quite highsted picks were driven onto the pitch.
Now it collided with two boys. We're told that one

(00:59):
is dead and one is a four year old. Driver
has been arrested at the scene. That is as much
as we know, and there is a cordon up there.
The whole still be club put a very very brief
statement saying they're cooperating with the police investigation. But looking
at the pictures, there is no reason for a black

(01:20):
BMW to be driving onto a rugby pitch. So the
town is devastated and as I say, a young child dead.
There was training from the fourties and under sixteen, so
that will give you an idea of the age group.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Possibly terrible. Yeah, let's talk about this lunch package meal
you can get from a UK supermarket. So they've got
a lunch meal deal including a zero beer. What's wrong
with that?

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yes, well, the big question is acceptable to be drinking
beers at work, regardless of whether it's zero or a
real one. So one of the major retailers has come
out this week changing the rules around its lunchtime meal offering.
So you get these meal deals. I'm sure it's the
same in New Zealand sandwich bagg of crisps and a

(02:06):
soft drink for you know, six pounds twelve dollars roughly.
And they've come out this week Sainsbury's and said that
amongst all the drinks on offer, they'll now offer you
the choice of a couple of non alcoholic laggers to
choose from. Now. Debrettes is the esecute guy pled this week,
saying that it just looks desperate that if you see

(02:28):
a colleague in the office drinking a non alcoholic beer
half past twelve, do not they want a real one.
And it's sparked quite a conversation here I have to say,
in all honesty, run all.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Right and we'll live it the Thank you very much
for the Indo, Bradia Europe and UK correspondent. For more
from hither Dupleassy Alan Drive, listen live to news talks
it'd be from four pm weekdays, or follow the podcast
on iHeartRadio.
