Zohran Mamdani's scored victory for the Democrats - making history as New York City's youngest mayor in a century.

The 34-year-old candidate focused his winning campaign on working-class issues.

It's a crushing defeat for the second-placed Trump-backed Independent Andrew Cuomo, and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

US correspondent Jonathan Kearsley says it's not gone down well with the US president.

"He's blaming some of the losses, not just in New York but in governing races in Virginia and New Jersey on the Government shutdown that's been going on for well over 30 days - and also on a lack of presence of himself."

Speaker 1 (00:00):
And finally, I don't use Tinder, so I didn't know,
but that's the Tinder match sound. So yeah, that's a thing,
and that's relevant because I'm about to talk to you
about something similar. Right and Advertising CEO in Mumbai says
LinkedIn should give users the option of displaying an open
to marry badge as well as the existing open to
work badge. The CEO says he hasn't had any luck

(00:22):
on dating apps or meeting people in real life and
he wants to give LinkedIn a goo. He says that
if you can find a job, client, mentor or investor
on LinkedIn, should be able to find love there too.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
International correspondence with Ends and Eye Insurance Peace of mind

Speaker 1 (00:41):
There it is again, Jonathan Cursley, US correspondent, Alo, Jonathan.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
It's a match, Heather.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Hello, Hell are you very well? Thank you? Mate? So,
Mam Darmi is he going to get all of his
kookie ideas across the line.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, Well that's the big question now, isn't it. Because
he's got a whole range of ideas.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
He wants to tax the wealthy, he wants free childcare
for all, he wants rent freezers in some parts. He
wants better transport services. But essentially you've had the American
President Donald Trump saying he will massively slash federal funding
to New York if indeed, ma'am down, he does win.
And it looks like he is well and truly on
track to winning this historic election, as we heard Jake

(01:19):
Tappertha Sanna and that clip before say, the youngest New
York City mayor in one hundred years, the first Muslim
mayor for New York City. And Donald Trump in the
past few moments has just given his first reaction to this, saying,
and all he's done is quote polsters saying Trump wasn't
on the ballot and the shutdown. They're the two reasons
the Republican lost elections tonight. So clearly he's blaming some.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Of the losses not just in New York but in
governor races in Virginia and New Jersey on the government
shutdown that has been going on for well over thirty
days now, and also blaming.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
It on a lack of presence of himself. But he
certainly inserted himself into the campaign in the last few days,
throwing his endorsement behind Andrew Cuomo.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
That didn't work. It really doesn't at.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
All that do we know what's caused this plane craft?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah, this is fascinating and horrific, incredibly sad details emerging
in the past few hours of this plane crash in
Kentucky at Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport. It was a
cargo plane that was carrying three people.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
It took off around five fourteen local time, and that
there was a fire you can see from the.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Video in the engine underneath the wing.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
It appears as though some debris has fallen from that
aircraft and then it is just plummeted straight into an
industrial site just adjacent to the airport itself. The latest
figures we had from authorities within the past five minutes
is that there are now seven people confirmed dead in
that there were three on board. Obviously more people have
been injured on the ground. There had been reports eleven

(02:46):
people were injured on the ground, but seemingly some of
those have sadly now passed away. The fire that had
caused burn four hours. That is because there was some
one hundred and forty thousand liters of jet fuel on
board this plane. It was full with fuel for Honolulu,
So it had a first stretch to go that would
have been a nine or ten hour flight in itself,
so it was loaded up with fuel. But it's come

(03:07):
down into this industrial site in Louisville and Kentucky and
cause death and devastation.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
And now you've got the National.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Transportation Safety Board trying to get on site to work
out exactly how this managed to happen. But clearly the
fire under the wing and the debris found on the
tarmac is going to be very central to what they're
looking at. But just another deadly plane crash in the
United States this year.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, Hei, thank you very much. Do appreciate it, Jonathan,
look at yourself. Jonathan Kursley, US correspondent.
