Marama Davidson: Green Party co-leader responds to Israel intercepting Gaza-bound aid ship

The Green Party is speaking out over Israel stopping a civilian yacht carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Israeli forces intercepted a yacht carrying prominent activists - including Greta Thunberg.

Its Foreign Ministry says they're safe, and the cargo will be taken to Gaza. 

But Green Party co-Leader Marama Davidson says that's not good enough.

"We want to see Israel stop shooting at innocent people lining up for a kai and we're calling on the Government to sanction Israel for its violent occupation of Palestine."

Wellington went down by twenty five percent of the same period. Boohoo, Auckland,

has been seized by the Israeli military. Greta claims she's

been kidnapped. Israel says the activists on board the ship
will be returned to their home countries. In the aid
on the ship will be transported to Gaza. Green's co
leader Madima Davidson is with me Hi Madama Kilda Heather,
are you calling on Israel to release her?

We want to see fake passage of all of the
civilians on board the boat to meddlinge Heather. We also
want to see Israel stop shooting at innocent people lining
up for a kai and we're calling on the government
to sanction Israel for its violent occupation of Palestine.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Do you think it is actually helpful for the likes
of Greta Tunberg to turn up there because I mean,
I would say everybody has got their hands full trying
to deal with a pretty awful situation. Surely she's just
going to make matters worse.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
What could make matters worse? When Israel themselves have been
deciding to continue the violence, the horror, the bombardment, the
shooting people lining up for a k Greta didn't cause that,
No other civilian has caused that. It's we need to
do everything we can here to bring attention and horror

(01:29):
to what is happening, and people are looking for anything
to do. Similarly, we need to call out all governments
to step up and do everything they possibly can to
call this out.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Hey, what's the problem with the NBR rich list?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Ah, Like, it's just another example and some evidence of
you know, how flawed our tax system is when we've
got that rich list while we've got children still living
in poverty. Those are political decisions and the government could
actually end poverty and redistribute to wells better. But Heather,
I'm really keen to keep talking about what has happened

(02:06):
and what is happening to the people in Gaza as well.
