Speaker 1 (00:00):
International correspondence with ends and eye insurance, peace of mind
for New Zealand business. Oliver Peterson is with us right now. Hello, Oli,
get ahead. So what do you make of Elbow's tribute
to Biden.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well, you know, they see themselves probably as one and
the same, to be perfectly honest. So they've basically both
dedicated their entire lives to public service. And he says,
the Prime Minister of Australia that he's got an extraordinary
record because of UCAST, the Inflation Reduction Act, and he
says the stability in the Indo Pacific, the support of
Ukraine against the Russian invasion, and he makes this really

(00:33):
interesting point. If Albanezi wins the federal election here in
Australia later this year or early next year, he would
be the first Australian Prime Minister to go back to
back in an election since John Howard did in two
thousand and four, So going back twenty years ago, because
think about how turbulent Australian politics is. And he's making
the point that the US doesn't have the same dramas

(00:54):
that we do here in Australia.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
They're sure they have now with the decision.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
To Joe Biden to pull out as the Democratic but
we went through the Howard years into Guillard and Rud
and Rud and Guillard and then Turbul and Abbott and
all of a sudden we had Scott Morrison. So isn't
that a funny stat here in Australia For the last
twenty years we haven't had a prime minister to go
back to back at an election.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, that's actually quite interesting. Hey, what was the housing
target by twenty thirty one point two million homes? And
how many are you going to be able to build?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Well, we're going to be able to build about just
under a million, so somewhere between nine hundred thousand and
a million, So I mean that's huge, right, They're off
by twenty percent. And the government's got a massive issue
with this header because they promised to pull down immigration
and they promised to get that below four hundred thousand
last financial year, which is obviously just finished twenty two

(01:43):
days ago. It came in at four hundred and thirty
five thousand. So one, they said that fix it after
record migration, they didn't do that. And two, we are
not hitting these housing targets. So where I am in Perth.
You've seen property prices grow twenty to twenty five percent
over the last twelve months. Forecast is another twenty to
twenty five percent the next twelve months, which is great
if you own your own home, if you got a

(02:03):
roof over your head, but you.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Can't fight a rental.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
You can't find a house to buy anywhere in Western
Australia at the moment.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
It's just ridiculous, Ollie, how cold is it if you
call off a footy game?

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Like?

Speaker 1 (02:13):
How cold does it have to get? I mean you're
just soft, aren't you? Like you tell me, tell me
how cold and then we'll make a call.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Well, you've got this situation in basically in Ballarat, so Country, Victoria,
the central Highlands of Victoria. On Saturday, half past two,
they reckon it got down to minus three point four
degrees fifteen meals of raign. That's what they're saying. It
felt like minus three point four degrees. But that's a
summer's day in New Zealand, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Are you seriously saying they should have been out playing
footy and minus three point Well do you know what
we would? You would because you're tough like New Zealand
is a six years old. The other day down South.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Well, I had my six year old yesterday at AFL
at Ossie Rules crying to me, you know, halfway through
his oz kick, saying Dad, it's raining.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
I want to go home.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Oh, I said, mate, you tough en up, you go
out there, you get wet and you enjoy because fourtys
meant to be played in the rain.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
And he didn't. He loved it, did he?

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (03:05):
God on it, Ollie. Now I stually agree with you.
They are soft. Thank you for that. He ex totally.
