Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean for Tuesday.
First of yesterday's news. I am Glen Hart, and we
are looking back at Monday. What is boom Boom? Why
are they discussing it? In the afternoon show, Marcus has
some incredibly hot takes on an incredibly controversial story. But

(00:48):
before any of that, I suppose we need to talk
about the This is the beginning or the continuation of
World War Three.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
They flew in the dark at night, dropping the payload.
Just after two am local time. They fired Tomahawk missiles
from US Navy ships nearby. They call it Operation Midnight Hammer.
They claimed it was successful, but what we don't actually
know is how successful and what success actually means. Satellite

(01:17):
images don't show you what's happening underground, obviously, the bunker
buster bombs are designed to blow stuff up around sixty
meters underground. Nobody but the Uranians know exactly how deep
their enrichment facilities are hidden. Nobody knows how thick the
concrete is that they put on top of it, it's
possible that the main guts of their facilities haven't been

(01:39):
hit at all. Then you ask, what does success mean?
If success is destroying Iran's nuclear capability, well, that hasn't happened.
Some scientists were taken out in Israel's first strikes, but
not all of them. Iran has very smart people with
knowledge of nuclear weapons and enrichment. China sends them the uranium.
This strike will have set them back, but this is

(02:01):
a country who's shown time and again not just how
capable they are, but how determined they are to have
nuclear weapons. To be a nuclear state doesn't mean the
stripe wasn't worth it, of course, if they won't negotiate.
But also success depends on how you define it.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, I mean I do wonder if the answer is
for nobody to have nuclear weapons or is there a
discussion for another day? News talk been Certainly the discussion
for use today was whether or not Iran was making
them at all.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Iranians have gathered behind that call. Others are like, eh, yeah,
we don't like, we don't like our leaders, but it's
Israel and America. We would love to see a new
style of governance within our own country. But it's Israel
in America who are who are affecting that change, So

(03:01):
it's all terribly up in the air. To be honest,
though I felt, you know, when I saw the hit
lines the worlds on fire have rewached World War three.
I felt more existential dread over the nine to eleven attacks.
That particular morning, when I woke up to the news
that the planes had flown into the Twin Towers, I

(03:24):
really did feel like World War III was on the horizon.
That was an attack on civilians within the US, a
strike on home soil. In this particular case, where you
know Iran hasn't got Hamas in his buller at full strength,

(03:47):
if at any strength at all, when it's only mates
are Russia and China, who have both went more. This
is terrible and done basically nothing. When it's been weakened
with the targeted attacks on the military leaders and on
the nuclear scientists, you know they are not in a

(04:10):
position of power, and hopefully, hopefully they will realize that
and there will be a period of time where the
strongest wins and the week lick their wounds and by their.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Time going after scientists. Thing always I always find that interesting.
I went to school with a couple of people who
like they were just always going to be scientists, there
was no doubt, And I wonder if they ended up
being nuclear scientists, what kind of scientists, Because if you're

(04:49):
the wrong kind of scientist, sometimes bombs land on your head.
That's weird, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
You talk Savene.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Obviously, I don't have anything too sensible to say about
this stuff. I'm sure here that.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
As though, this could also incentivize other countries like Russia
to give them a nuclear weapon, which has been a
threat from Russia in the last few days. This could
spiral into some sort of instability in the country. If
there's a regime change in Iran that is worse than
the current one, and that's always possible and often is
the case, this could create instability in other parts of
the world. If the US gets involved more deeply in

(05:24):
Iran ties itself up there, other countries have a look
at it sea the US is distracted. I'll take much
chance over here in another part of the world. All
of that is absolutely fair to be worried about. However,
I would like to caution us all against thinking that
Iran is some sort of an innocent victim here, which
I think is something that we tend to do in
this country. We don't like the US meddling. We can

(05:44):
see from a distance how bad that is. So we
see the US as an aggressor meddling in another country,
and then we feel sorry for that country for the
US coming and bullying them. Do not feel sorry for Iran.
Iran are not good guys here. I personally think you'd
have to be naive to believe that they weren't working
on a nuke. They've got their facilities underground, for God's sake,

(06:05):
what do you think that's for? And they are motiva
to have a nuke, as I said before, to avoid
exactly this happening with the US bombing them. So they've
got the motivation. Circumstantially, it looks like that were up
to something right, and they are.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
By the way.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
Also, remember the ones who supported and funded Humas, who
started this war with Israel in the first place on
October seven, twenty twenty three, So they are not good
guys at all.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Now.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
They probably had this coming. Actually, the only thing that
we can hope for right now is that it ends
with this and to be honest, it's probably a long shot.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah, I just fetish out by saying otwa asking do
you feel safer or less safe after us poking the bear? Yeah,
now it's time to talk about a different kind of
boom boom boom boom the what is it a dinosaur statue?

(07:01):
I don't know what's happening anymore.

Speaker 6 (07:02):
The SEXU says this is this is a real go
at me, which I enjoy.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
Honest you do?

Speaker 6 (07:07):
Actually yeah, yeah, boom boom sucks? Oh what man? Can
we get a day when you don't go on about
boom boom and top or it's dunedin cheese rolls, this
topo that we all know that you live in Auckland
and drive a sab man of the people, my ass,
take your boom boom and your cheese rolls and wash
them down with a liberal Chardonnay on your multimillion dollar

(07:28):
Auckland deck.

Speaker 7 (07:29):
Yeah that is someone that's actually met you. I've got
your number, mate. I mean I can't argue with anything
they are apart from boom boom.

Speaker 6 (07:34):
Well, I don't think you can go like, look, I
get counsel over spending. I absolutely get it, but I
don't think you can go past Boom Boom, which is
a dinosaur statue, a piece of art in topor and
not feel joyed. And you see the kids around it.
It's like a bubble blow up dinosaur.

Speaker 7 (07:53):
I question boom boom, but then when I saw a
picture of it, I thought, yeah, no, fair enough, Boom
Boom is amazing. Go google boom.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Boom and to walk boom Boom is the best of us?

Speaker 7 (08:01):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
This is one of those things that always stirs people up,
isn't it when counsels and other forms of government spend
money on art, Because no matter what the art is,
there's always going to be somebody who's not into it,

(08:22):
somebody who is. It's a cool thing about art, isn't it,
unless maybe you don't like art at all, which case
it's a complete waste of your rates.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
News talk has it been?

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Let's finish up here. I think Marcus has got an
interesting take on the butter debate, because of course nobody
can afford butter anymore, and that means that there are
knock on effects when you can't afford butter. Aren't they
crumpets for sure?

Speaker 8 (08:53):
But who can afford the butter? Murray makes an extremely
good point. Has Fonterra ruined crumpets for us with the
price of butter?

Speaker 5 (09:01):
I probably have.

Speaker 8 (09:02):
If I was running Countdown, I'd be doing a special
butter and crumpet winter Hunger Buster winter peck. You get
four packets of crumpets and a pound of butter. That's
what I'll be doing. Be brilliant. That's what Costco should
be doing. Actually, if I want to tell Costco how

(09:25):
to run their company, that's am to be doing it
pretty well. But yeah, crumpets and butter. I had to
go by butter today. Goodness me. I had to go
to a New World. I had to go through a
checkout because I didn't use my club card. I use
Vanessa's phone number to get my club card discount, which

(09:47):
he's always said two six two two three six seven name, Yes, Vanessa.
You don't look like a Vanessa the kids day anyway.
Do they have crumpets at Costco? Dan, You're the only
person I know that's been there. No, you wouldn't be
on crumpets and bulk because you want to keep them fresh.
What would be good on crumpets instead of butter?

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Need butter?

Speaker 8 (10:08):
As a bass layerough I don't think you want to
put anything else on there. I can't think of anything
else that would be good besides butter. I'll too, you
would always disappoint to be maple syrup. What a terrible
taste that is. Tastes like something that shouldn't be eaten, right.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
So as usual a lot to unpact there. I wonder
as Marcus actually having proper maple syrup or is he
just having maple flavored fake sauce. This is a big
difference there. I mean, if you can't afford butter, you
definitely can't afford real maple syrup is for sure. So

(10:46):
that's that's one question i'd ask off the better that
oliv Why don't people talk about Olivano a set of
butter that's what we use in their house that seems
to go around on crumpets and my experience, and also
I have just put peanut butter on crumpets with no butter,

(11:09):
because you don't really need butter and peanut butter, do you.
That just ends up being a big greasy mess. I
know some people will find it controversivertial that I would
put peanut butter on crumpets. Don't knock it, but you've
tried it in jam as well, Like if you just
go you can go jam straight on a trumpet. You
don't need butter there, do you. But yeah, it doesn't

(11:35):
have to be olive ano. It just some kind of
olive oil spread. I mean it's probably expensive now as well,
give them the prize of olive oil. But I don't
know if it's gone off as much as butter hairs. Anyway,
There we've got that major issue settled. I thought of,
who knows what we'll be talking about tomorrow. Can't wait.

(11:58):
I mean, if it is tomorrow, you don't have to.
You can just literally listen to the next episode now,
so I'll see you now. Use said.
