Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from news Talk, said, b
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
Used Talk said, be you Talk.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Said, hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean
for Tuesday. First of yesterday's news. We're looking back at Monday.
Biden's let hunter off. Didn't know you said he wasn't
going to so obviously that's the end of the world.
(00:43):
We a lot to talk about battery safety because you know,
somebody's battery caught fire. Again. We get one of these,
so every three or four months, don't we And yeah,
the downfall of the Christmas party. But before any of that,
speaking of parties, a labor party and there and you'll
(01:03):
get together. What did Rhyme Bridge make of it?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
And a full priced new hospital into Needin? How much
exactly will it cost? Well, we don't know, but we
don't care. They're getting it, saying what goes with the
rail enabled fairies, they're on their way. The price was
in the billions for the landside parts of that doesn't matter.
It's happening. How are you going to pay for all
of that is the question when, as we learned last week,
(01:29):
our growth outlooks have been downgraded. Nikolas is hinted at
a when we find out finally, when we get the
Hayfu numbers, that we'll probably be looking at at pushing
the surplus even further out into the future, which makes
you wonder whether it's ever even going to happen. Ever,
no matter who's in government, it's that bad. So how
(01:50):
do you spend all that money, commit to spending all
that money, commit to reversing all the cuts that nationals
made as well, and then still balance the books. It's
like wizardry, and that's where trust comes into it. After
sixty years, Labor lost the country's trust on many issues because,
as many people have said, they couldn't deliver a pizza,
(02:13):
or run a bath or pick you you know, pick
your number of metaphors. They've been quiet on tax for now,
but the remit did pass at the election. So the
question is where the Labor should at this point be
promising much in the way of anything to anyone when
they've lost so much capital on delivery.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
It's to beggars belief that chrisip consistsall in charge of
that bag of katz. But apparently they just don't have
anybody better, which is so depressing and even more reason
to ignore them completely and make a different party. The
(02:54):
position party I mean, was he was and explaining the
hospital thing, for example, it seems like they don't want
to They do want to fund the hospital, but they
don't want to fund a radiology department or a car park.
So I don't know how you're going to get to
the hospital, and I hope you don't expect any X
rays when you get there. News talk ze been anyway.
(03:17):
Maybe Carrie's got more of a grasp on this than
I have. I mean, they wouldn't be surprising my grasp
on anything. It's pretty tenuous at best.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
It still blows me away that Christip Considia we weren't
really ready for parliament after nine years in opposition. You're
not ready to be in parliament. What were we paying for?
Why were we funding your wages? If you're going to
use all of your taxpayer funded salaries to faff around
(03:49):
and spend the time trying to find a leader, that
is not money well spent. That is not a good
return on investment for the taxpayer. So if what they're
going to be doing is looking at flaws in the
coalition government's plan for New Zealand and coming up with
a better alternative, looking at bold, innovative ways to grow
(04:12):
the economy, to protect vulnerable New Zealanders, to create a
more robust health system. Great, but if all you're doing
is faffing around doing third form schoolyard politics to choose
your leader, that is not a good return on investment.
(04:33):
So so far, so good. Chris Hopkins said, well, yes,
I might be tainted by the last regime, but hey,
I'm here for the long haul and basically the best
guy for the job. Prove otherwise.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
I do wonder if Chris Hipkins really is the best
they can do. Is it a bit like you know
when you used to play school sport and the teams
would turn up and there weren't quite enough players on
one of the teams, and so the other team would
lend them some players. Did they put a few people
(05:05):
from National or one of the other parties labor just
to see them through to the next election. Did it work,
wouldn't it?
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Qu's talk Siden in.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
More political madness at this time in the United States. Yeah,
Biden's completely gone back on what he said he was
going to do, and he's pardoning his son.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
From the perspective of Joe Biden the individual, you can
kind of understand it, right. It doesn't mean it's right though.
I mean, honestly, it is a disgrace. It is just
completely It completely undermines the same justice system which Democrats
have for years been claiming is independent, as impartial, as
(05:47):
it sought to prosecute President Trump. Either the justice system
is subject to political manipulation or it isn't. You can't
change your story just because you're being shuffled out of
office and there's no longer an election in a few
weeks time. It is just remarkable really that he should
make this decision, but that he should also make it
in the same way that Donald Trump has appointed the
(06:10):
soon to be US Envoy to France. Who's that, you ask, Oh,
it's just Charles Kushner, the father of his son in law,
Jared Kushner, the same man that Donald Trump pardoned shortly
before he left office. Trump did it. Now Biden's done
the same thing. I guess Biden figures, if you can't
beat them, join them. But my god, we should can't ourselves.
(06:32):
Lucky that here in New Zealand, our system hasn't yet
been poisoned to this extent. Americans may be more divided
than ever, but they are united in their woeful regard
for foundational democratic institutions.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
When the most surprising thing for me about all this
is that Biden is actually still in charge.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
Did you realize that.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Just sort of he sort of went away while the
election was happening, and he's just hanging in there until
early in January? Isn't he still doing stuff? So in
charge of the most powerful country in the world. But sorry,
I didn't mean China, right, So we've heard somebody owe
(07:22):
something up, I've heard something down with a thatchery or
a charger or something. It needs to happen every now
and again, isn't it? And who called to the station?
And people who sleep at their phones under their pillows
for some reason and have never had any problems.
Speaker 6 (07:36):
We fostered a boy a number of years ago. He
was a special needs He got a job. He couldn't
sit a license, so we got on one of those
cool scooters that you sit on. They look like a
bit of a chopp are those kind of things. It
was great. He was living independently and he said, oh, Dad,
scooter's not charging, so I chucked in the van board
(07:57):
it around home. I thought I'll test it out, so
I put it on the charger and the garage. In
the afternoon, I was about to jump in the spar pool.
My wife was about the stairs or in the kitchen.
Who's popping sound? I thought, oh, what's that. We'll go
out in the garage and it's on fire. Fortunately we
had the garage door and the dog gapped it. And
(08:17):
amazingly I had a small and it was a commercial
fire extinguisher, right, so not the small kitchen one, but
the next one up that you'll see in an office.
And so I grabbed this thing and I unloaded the
whole thing, right, so this is a substantial fire extinguisher.
And it went down and I thought great, And it
was about by this time it was nearly up to
(08:40):
my ceiling. I had tents and all sorts of rubbish it,
you know, as you do in a garage. And I
got it down to about flames, sort of about the
height of I don't know, five inches or something, and
I thought, oh great, I've sorted it, and it just
took off again.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Interesting that guy he started as call boy saying long
story jaw, and then he went on for about another
five minutes.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
After that news talk has it been?
Speaker 2 (09:11):
We're going to finish out a guy who's never made
a long for your effect, I would say these talents
will make the short stories long. Any change. I think
he thinks that work paddies that what they used to be.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
There seems to be a trend away from drinking. The
office workplace is certainly the UK experiences pivoting from alcohol
to activities, so additional boozy lunch or boozy dinner are gone,
such escape rooms, murder mystery experiences and crazy golf.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
I wish every year.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
Dan and I want to organize a scavenger hunt, but
no real demand or desire for it, So it seems
as though getting rolling drunk is gone. I think what
happens too, If you've got a workplace and times are tough,
your work is aren't happy, then what they tend to
do They tend to think, well, my time at work
(10:20):
in the company, I am not valued. And one way
I can rectify that is when it comes to the
Christmas party, I can make up for the wages I
perceive of not being paid, though I should have been
paid by drinking that value on alcohol.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yeah, our one. I think it is starting at two
o'clock in the afternoon or two thirty or something and
going to four thirty. So that's then, and we've been
specifically told that there's a limited bar tab and when
it runs out, you're paying for your own drinks. So
that sounds fun, doesn't it away? At least it's in December.
(11:01):
I know of some places over there we've hadded with
in November. It's like when Christmas parades even in November
and Christmas in the park. No, remember, it's not right anyway,
funny old time of year.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
Don't worry.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
I'll still be here tomorrow us.
