Speaker 2 (00:23):
Hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the Bean for Tuesday.
First with yesterday's news, I'm Glen Hart, and we are
looking back at Monday. Power prices are on the up
and up, and that means some people can't pay them
and they're getting their power switched off. We're going to
have to start paying for roads, by the looks of things,
(00:47):
directly paying for them, toll roads as opposed to the
road toll. The toll roads I've got to be confusing
in some discussions yesterday, we're talking about that. Finally, the
Darling and Tanner investigation is over, so we'll dig into that,
and we'll also have a look at the all black
jerseys from the other night. First, I'm hearing about this.
(01:10):
I can't believe it. Before any of that new hosts
on the station. Yesterday, Ryan Bridge kicked off his rain
as host of Early Edition.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
You imagine being a retailer sitting in a shop, not
just for one day, for half a day, but actually
not selling anything for an entire week. The NZEDII quarterly
survey was out the net twenty five percent of firms
cutting their head count, highest proportioned since the GFC. We've
got people hurting, and we've got the a's been our
(01:42):
predicting we need a cut this year. We've got bnz's
Stephen Topless saying the latest Darter quote screams that rates
need to be cut sooner. And we've got adriane or
stubbornly saying no, no, we have to wait till we
get down to two percent. And of course that's his job.
I mean, it's to get it between one and three percent.
And he said that two is the target, and inflation
(02:03):
has slowed, but it's still sitting at four percent, which
is too high, right, so Adrian will be nervous to
cut the rates too soon and risk keeping inflation fires burning.
He arguably helped light the fires in the first place
by pumping cash and during COVID, And you don't want
to be the guy accused of helping start fire that
(02:25):
you then failed to properly put out. So I can
see why he's taking the track that he is. It's
basically his job. But boy doesn't feel hard to swallow
that at the moment.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I Oh, it's not my job to judge, I thought.
Royan was also yesterday morning, first day out, sounded like
he'd been there for years. Looked like he'd been there
for years. If I met anybody so relaxed about a
new job, well begi what the job is. It was
very impressed and I'm sure whatever he was talking about
(03:02):
was very valid too.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
News Talk Zeth Bean.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Glenn Wearing in yesterday not me differently to say that
he did his power cut off because he couldn't pay
the bill.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
So so as far as hot showers, you did without.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
No, no, no, we are ball a big.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Pot of water for the for the baths, but but
for for you. Yeah, so you do it. You do
that for you and your wife as well as the kids.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
As two kids. Yeah, and the kids would go first
and then and then we'd go after after we bathter kids.
But what's quite simple?
Speaker 4 (03:40):
What was it like for you?
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Well, it was hard, but but you know that's a
power ball, you know, powerble for you. So it was
just getting bigger and bigger. You know, we're two kids.
It was like two hundred and fifty dollars a month.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
And what's it like for you now as far as
paying the power bill, are you still making those kinds
of decisions or are things a little bit more stable now?
Speaker 5 (04:04):
We shifted out of the city and now we live
in the bush and on the same set up, I've
got soul up pet on there.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Okay, all right, living in the bush. You're not the
Marack Coper man, are you? No? I sometimes wonder whether
he's wrung Talkback, because every now and then you speak
to someone who's who's so in favor of him that
you're like, is it really him? Because if I was
the Marack Coper Man, I'd bring talk Back under a pseudonym.
(04:32):
I don't make light of that situation. It's awful and
he needs to pay the price of what he's done.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Took a weird tune there at the end?
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (04:39):
That was? Again, I'm not here to judge where am I?
Is that actually what I'm doing in these podcasts? Anyway?
That was Tim Rocksborough standing in for Andrew Dickens. You
know he does mona at the News. Of course, why
is Andrew Dickens not there? Because he's standing in for
Mike Hosking in the Breakfast Show. He's away see how
(04:59):
you know a butterfly flaps the swims and between Tim
rothber is making jokes about the Missing America Open Man's
talk sid so at toll roads might be the answer
to our roads of significance. Government's going to get them
built one way or another. Are you prepared to pay
(05:20):
for a nice, shiny, fast road.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
So all the work was done, costings, measurements, soil engineering,
preliminary reports all ready to go, and then they were
shelved and left to gather dust under the previous administration.
Communities change in ten years, so NZTA said that have
(05:43):
to go back and take a look and see whether
some changes would need it. But they won't be starting
from scratch. You know, the soil composition's not going to
change in ten years. Belfast, Pegasus, Hawksby Expressways, Stan Jowe,
Won Cambridge to Pierreri State Highway twenty nine, Tariko Takatimu
Northlink Stage two, Mill Road, Walkworth to Wellsford, Bring it on.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
I think soil composition does change over ten years. I'm
no geologist, surveyor whatever what who I don't even know
what the name of the job is. And for people
(06:26):
who checked us or the compositions I'm pretty sure they
will have to check that, but yes, do bring it
on though I haven't a judging today, aren't I use
Now we've got a result finally of the Daarli and
Kanner investigation, so yeah, again we've got people standing in
(06:47):
for people. Francesca standing in for Heather yesterday evening.
Speaker 7 (06:50):
Donor has been suspended on full pay for more than
half her entire career as an MP. The last count
that a very patient reporter did they discovered how much
she had earned while under investigation. They suggested that it
was around forty seven thousand dollars, and the cost of
the investigation itself, well, those costs are north of forty
(07:10):
three thousand. So the Greens have been very cagey about
what's in the report. There is only so much they
can tell us, and as much as they have stated
they want to release the report, they don't know when
they will actually be able to do this. Despite this,
the Green Party isn't messing around. They've strongly stated that
they hope that Tana does the right thing and resigns
(07:32):
as a Member of Parliament. If she refuses, they will
have to decide whether to invoke the Walker jumping legislation
to remove her from Parliament, legislation they've vehemently opposed, so,
as Warbrook said, her actions go against the core of
everything the Greens stand for. She also stated that she
felt Tana had misled Madama Davidson and herself, So you
(07:53):
can kind of understand Wiswoopbrick is fired up today. This
issue has always been about integrity, The integrity of Darning Tana,
the Green Party and independent investigations. They are all under scrutiny.
Surely there must be a better way to conduct an
independent investigation, a cheaper, more transparent and a quicker version, please,
(08:13):
and that would have benefited everybody involved. And we're too
now for Darling Tana. Well, she has had her investigation,
an investigation where she agreed to the terms of reference.
If she wants to stay in Parliament, she must agree
to release the report. However, I find myself agreeing strongly
with the Greens on the other option. She should resign
from parliament and save us from any further bother.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, I mean better still, it would have been better
from the outset she'd just resigned and we're not had
to have an investigation at all.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
News talk ze been I.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Don't understand how these things work. Now. I still haven't
found out whether Scott loves into the break dance had
ended winning against England down to night, And I'm only
just hearing now that there were new jerseys as well.
Speaker 8 (09:05):
Thought the rugby was goodsh people seem to be enjoying that.
Didn't they didn't watch all of it, but watched most
of it?
Speaker 9 (09:20):
Did I like the rugby jersey that looked terrible. I
couldn't quite work at what they're trying to achieve. I
thought about that quite a bit of the time. I thought,
what are they trying to do? Are they trying to
sell it to more people? Did they think a jersey
that looked almost part like a white polo shoot?
Speaker 8 (09:38):
Did they think that would sell more? And I'm watching
that rugby match. I looked at that jersey with the
white collar and the white bit down the buttons. I'm thinking,
have I missed something here? Is this some sort of
fashion thing that than twenty years time? I think they
were way ahead of the curve, not that I could
see anyway, And I've never thought about that in the past.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Yeah. So, in case you missed this podcast yesterday, which
would not be surprised about I would have thought that the
vast majority of you listen. You know, these just come
up on your feed. You've subscribed, and you listen to
yesterday's Yesterday, and you listen to today's Today, or perhaps
you're binging them, you're late to newsbalks they have been
(10:21):
and you listen to these ten years after they were
initially published, like a little time warp. Welcome back to
twenty twenty four. Hello twenty thirty four. Good to know
that we're still here. Anyway, Enough of this time travel nonsense.
(10:41):
What was I saying? Oh, yes, yesterday, I was saying
I didn't see the rugby because domestic manager's birthday party
was on, and if I'd chosen to watch rugby instead
of cop and make drinks for the people at the party,
(11:05):
I think that would have wouldn't have gone down very well.
And I'm not going to see this weekend's match either,
because my father in law is coming to stay and
although he also likes to watch rugby. There's a restaurants
been booked. We're going out to dinner, and I don't
think it's the kind of restaurant that has a massive
screen in one corner. We can slightly make sure that
you're positioned with an a viewing angle of it. So yeah,
(11:32):
I will have to rely on reports from people like
Marcus to find out what jerseys they wear this weekend.
I've looked. I have looked them up. Though it is
weird that they've gone for a style which makes it
look like you're wearing a shirt hunter your jersey. It's
sort of like smack casual Friday on top and then
shorts on the bottom. Maybe it's a European thing. I
(11:59):
am being hat there's been news as they've been. I
have no sense of style and I'm not here to judge,
but I'll be back doing that again tomorrow probably see.
