Speaker 2 (00:23):
Hello, my beautiful beanies. Then welcome to the bean for Thursday.
First with yesterday's news, I am Glean Hart, and we
are looking back at Wednesday. We were discussing Luxeon's image,
his likability factor, Why can't you talk like a new
(00:44):
walking and being that sort of stuff. Someone spills a
coffee all over the announced studio here at the mothership
News Talks EDB. I could give you three guesses as
to who that was, but I reckon you'll get it
in about one and a half guesses. But before any
of that, citizens arrests. We can make them, or we
(01:10):
were about to be able to make them. We could
make them, but it was tricky. Now it's going to
be less tricky, Marcus.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Security guards don't chase them for their own safety, otherwise
I'll be targeted, thank you. I don't even know what
the stage is thinking when it becomes law, but the
police have very much opposed to it, just so you know.
But I think it's the worst idea, this is citizens arrests.
(01:41):
I don't think you just say I hereby arrest you,
You've got to actually then hold them. I think until
the police arrive. I think you can tie them up
if you've got a lariat. What's a lariat? Is that
the right if I use the right word, then if
you had a lariat, or if you've got your take
(02:04):
your belt off and you could who knows what's going
to happen. There are people arresting people that'll be posting
on YouTube, there will be influencers arresting people. It will
be a disaster, you mark my words on this.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
So a lariat is essentially a lassu. It seems to
have been sort of repurpose the word lariat for necklaces
where you know, one part of the necklace goes through
a hoop at the other end. Do you know what
(02:40):
I mean? But think lasso? I would go.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Zip ties.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
You know they's plastic. That's that's what they seem to
use these days. Isn't it more than even handcuffs?
Speaker 1 (02:55):
News talk?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Has it been?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I mean I'm presuming that this is why laws like
this have to go through special committee and get voted
on and have all the different readings so they can
iron out the details For example, can you make a
homemade taser just by plugging in a power chord and
then cutting the plug off the other end and zapping
people with that? Probably not right.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
So when you hear people ransacking your farm at twelve
forty five, effectively the middle of the night, you don't
know what to expect. I think firing a shot over
their heads is a bloody polite way of saying, get
off my farm, given the history, given what was going on,
given the fact that the police weren't able to help. Ultimately,
(03:42):
the Mournsville farmer wasn't prosecuted, but was a hell of
a lot of anks for the farmer and his family.
So yes, I wanted to see us be able to
defend ourselves, But I want to know what reasonable forces.
I personally think firing a gun over the heads of
some low lives is perfectly reasonable. Firing a gun at
(04:03):
a getaway car, I think is perfectly reasonable when it's
not the first time, when the police cannot help, perfectly reasonable.
But I do want to see us make more use
of technology too. Supermarkets should be investing in the software
that prevents thieves leaving the stores with trolleys and armloads
(04:24):
of stolen groceries. That technology exists. I can understand risking
my life to protect the life of another, and I
hope that I would be as brave as Austin Hemmings
and do so. But risking my life to protect a
supermarket's profits yet not so much.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
What is it when you're firing a shot over people's heads?
You don't really have to use a gun to do that,
do you? Could you not just have the sound effect
of a gun going off and play that over your
sound system. I feel like that would have more or
less the same effect and be less likely to, I
don't know, accidentally blow somebody's head off.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Use talk.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
What does Ryan make of all this? What are the pros?
What are the pitfalls?
Speaker 6 (05:08):
My partner watched a guy at our local countdown do this.
He has all the good cuts of meat in his trolley.
He's got booze in the trolley so full it's overflowing.
Walks straight out the front door, the security guards, the shoppers,
the staff, everybody just watching him leave. Some even made
space for the guy. And the irony of the story
(05:31):
is the guy had a gammy leg. He couldn't even run,
so here he is limping his way through the car
park where a car was waiting from on the side
road to take him away. And the sad thing is
he didn't need to run because no one chased him.
No one really did anything. Did the cops follow up
on this incident? I don't know, because there's so many
(05:53):
How would they possibly follow up on all of the
theft and retail places that occurred these days, which means
probably zero consequences. You can walk in, you can take
what you like, and you can walk out. It's quite simple,
it's quite easy, and hey, it's free. So it makes
sense that you give more powers to shop owners to
stop this while it's happening. But here's the problem. The
(06:15):
dairy owners will use these powers, but the big supermarkets,
the department stores, the warehouse they won't why health and
safety regulations. They're worried the thieves will pull a knife
out and hurt someone and you can't blame them for that.
Their hands are tied by a different law. So the
problem won't go away. But at least those poor dairy
(06:37):
owners and small business owners have the option only if
they want to to fight back against the thieves.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah, I think I might have mentioned yesterday where there's
a boy racer in our neighborhood. Can you be a
boy racer if you're just one person in one car?
Who are you racing against?
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Anyway?
Speaker 2 (06:57):
He very loud vehicle, loves to red at our drive
around the neighborhood, making a dick of himself and everybody
hates them. And I just wonder when these new laws
going to effect, is there going to be sort of
a lunching? Are people going to make their own hire
(07:18):
spikes people? Those things you know that you roll out
into the road and then you know, punctures all the tires.
I mean, I would love that. It's probably going a
little bit too far and there's a havok safety concerned there,
and I'm sure it'll be fine. Everything's fine, right, citizens,
(07:43):
I was going to say, citizens advice, citizens of rest laws. Aside,
how's Luckson's popularity going? Are people loving Luxon year or
is not quite what's happened there?
Speaker 7 (07:54):
Cam satter say what you like about him. He can
certainly write. His head is ups and downs. He's paid
for some bad behavior, but he has good flow and
his writing. He always had a good contact book. But
whether those contacts still talk to him as anybody's guests.
But anyway, He's now renamed Whale Oil to a website
called good Oil, and yesterday he wrote a think piece
called the Coming National Coup. He reckons Christopher Luckson's continued
(08:17):
bad numbers means the National Party is now seriously talking
about replacing him as leader, even cams and on game
these days, he claims, sources inside caucus say that Luxon
has three months to turn around his numbers. He claims
that women don't like Luxon, people who believe in anything
don't like Christopher because nobody knows what he believes. Kam
(08:38):
Satter says his coalition partners know what they believe, and
he says the free marketeers can go with Act, the
Nationalists can go with New Zealand first, So who's going
to go with Christopher? He says the opposition can smell blood,
and then he lumps the media into the opposition camp,
even though of course he is acting like an opposition
right now with this opinion. But slowly, Christopher Luxon seems
to be losing the support of the center right, according
(08:58):
to camp Slater, not that he had much in the
first place. To be fair, he was never given a
honeymoon period. I think the electric could see that he
had a very performative nature in his politics. But these
are easy editorials to write, and everyone can point out
the flaws and the problems with anything. Only the truly
talented can provide a solution. So if the problem is
(09:23):
Christopher Luxen, what is the answer? Is it Willis? Is
it Bishop? Is it Stamford? Or is it Simeon? They're
the next four on the list? You want to go deeper?
Would Mitchell, Goldsmith or Collins be any better than Christopher Luxon?
Fkam is correct and a coup is coming inside the
next three months. Could that be national shooting itself in
(09:46):
the foot? Well, of course it is. Did they learn
nothing from all the long years in opposition where they
chopped and changed their leaders without going forward in any way,
shape or form.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I think there's a certain it's a bit like the
Democrats in the US. I don't think the National Party
caucus thinks that there's a problem. It's and like the
Democrats in the US, they'll sail into another election quite happily,
(10:17):
thinking that they're on the right track without paying too
much attention to you know how popular their leader is
that's my it's it's the ceiling I get. And also
if all these things, these the spars, tracking and as kicking,
and if they if all the stuff starts to have
(10:38):
an effect, if if we you know, citizen arresting all
the bad people in society, and then because I mean,
what happens after the citizens and arrest that's kind of
important as well? They do they actually basically consequences? Are
they put away for life as most of the citizens
who are arresting them will.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Want them to be.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Are they going to be enough follow on effects from
this sort of stuff, increasing speed limits, reopening oil refineries?
Are we going to be feeling so good about the
countries in a year's time that Lackson's popularity will start
surging back and his fellow party member's statement him will
(11:28):
be rewarded. I guess we'll just have to wait and
see what news talk it been. Right, We're going to
finish up here with the great coffee catastrophe. I mean,
I've been warning everybody about this guy, met Heath ever
since we hired him, and now he's literally taken down
in an entire announced studio news talk.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
He'd be very good afternoon to you, and we're talking
about the price of cheese, and we've had a fantastic
response on the texs machine nine two nine two.
Speaker 8 (12:01):
Well, actually, I've got got to tell you something. I'm
currently sitting here topless you are. I thought you wanted
to brush over there.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Yeah, I thought we're in a gloss over that. But
you can tell I'm panting here, mat it's topless. My
computer's shut down here the computer shutdown.
Speaker 8 (12:16):
Yeah, yeah, so spilled a coffee when everywhere and you
know we're in the my Costing Memorial studio, so you
got to You've got to clean up when you make
a mess. So I immediately whipped my shirt off to
wipe down the bench and yeah, still doing that. So
I'm not sure if that affects your listenership that I'm
doing it shirtless.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
No, We've got to bring you the audience into what's
happening in the studio. There's about a million paper towels
just scattered around at the moment. So Mike, if you're listening,
the studio will be smoking span by the time you
come in tomorrow morning. Don't worry about it, Ryan Bridge,
you might not be so lucky, but we'll try try
our pest.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
So literally they managed to take themselves off here by
pouring coffee through everything, and then people had to come in,
They had to move to another studio just to stay
on air. Everything had to be taken apart, cleaned out,
put back together again. Yeah, I just has Matt. He's
(13:17):
been an asset or a liability for the news took
zb brand. It's the line call if you ask me,
I really hope this doesn't get back to mic costing.
But given that I know about it and I work
(13:38):
closely with Mike hosting every morning, I feel like it's
probably going to Mike Hosking very rarely has a coffee
in the studio. He's usually just on the hot limon water,
and I think that that would do less damage if
he ever spilled it. But I don't think he ever has.
I've been working with him for about sixteen years or
so now and I don't ever remember him spilling the
(14:00):
limon water. But yeah, if there's any trace of that
coffee where Mike gets in there this morning, there's definitely
as to be ramifications, so stay tuned for that. I
am Glen Hart that has been used TALKSID been some
of us will be back tomorrow. I'm not sure how many.
