Speaker 1 (00:09):

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hello, my beautiful beanies, and welcome to the bean for
Tuesday versus yesterday's news. I am ben Hart, and we
are looking back at Monday. We're worried about the boot
camp thing hasn't worked as well as we'd hoped. Well,
I think some of us are some of us less worried.
Charge of talk a lot of charger talk lately, big,

(00:46):
big and small charges. We'll get into that, the Faery plan.
What's that going to be? And it we'll find out
tomorrow or the next day. And Marcus rails against a
particular social pest that I also will rail against as well.

(01:06):
I think there's going to be a lot of railing
at the end of the podcast. But first up, so
another poll and more bad news for Christopher Luckson.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Why does everybody hate him?

Speaker 4 (01:17):
The leader of the opposition is ahead of the Prime
minister after only what a year in office? I reckon? Though,
here's the thing. If it was Hipkins in charge right now,
let's imagine an alternative universe for a second. If it
was Hipkins in charge, he'd won the election, he'd be
disliked as much, probably if not more than Luxon. Why well,
people don't like politicians at the moment. They screwed us

(01:38):
on COVID, They helped crash the economy in conjunction with
the Reserve Bank. They made us feel broken poor. Look
no further than the UK with Starmer or Australia with Elbow.
They just had a poll out today. Our Australia correspondent
told us about it.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Terrible numbers for.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Elbow and they're both first termers, but they're still getting
hammered in the polls. Sure they have both made mistakes,
individual mistakes, but there is a biggest story going on here.
We're broke and will blame whoever's in charge, no matter
how long they have been there. There's a caveat to
the come twenty twenty six, we better have something to
show for it. The OECD report that came out last

(02:14):
week says will be north of two percent growth by
twenty twenty six. But those promises that Luckson has made,
those targets that he has championed time and time again,
that seed of a promise that he's solen into this
government has two years to bear fruit.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
I think a lot of zeb listens would be shocked
here that Hipkins is more popular than luxem. I think
it's probably just all part of National's master plan to
let Hopkins.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Be as popular as he likes.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
You know, even for a couple of years, and that
way he will remain unchallenged as leader of the Labor Party,
and then when it comes to election time, they'll just
point out how absolutely out of touch with the reality
is and how he never follows the news and how
he just has random ideas about random things and was
part of the crew that oversaw a lot of the

(03:14):
stuff that happened to the economy during COVID times.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
And go, oh yeah, of course, sorry about that.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, so that's I think that's that could be part
of the plan News talk z been.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
It probably isn't magnif it was.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Now the boot camp plan has hit a couple of snags,
like literally two snags now.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
The difference between previous boot camps and this one is
that there has been the promise of wrap around care
community support, that the young people will get what they
need to make the right choices, and let's face it,
and this is something that also came out in the
failures in the New Zealand youth prison system Sending them

(04:02):
to prison is not going to help. I mean a
try and get them in. There are only two young
adult units in prison, a nune for young women. So
I guess we've got to try everything because there's nowhere
else for these young people to go. And there has

(04:22):
been the promise of support for these young people to
help them make the right decisions. I mean that we
all had that kind of mentorship when we were young
people making dumb decisions. Most of us made really stupid
decisions when we were the age of these young ones.
We just weren't involved in crime. So making dumb decisions

(04:43):
multiplied by crime equals trouble. So I don't know. I
know that I said on Friday that it got off
to the worst possible start. That didn't mean I don't
believe in them. I just said it wasn't a great look.
So the bad starts happened. But at least we've seen

(05:04):
prominent supporters come out and say why they believe in it,
what needs to happen for it to be a success,
and that success does not mean a one hundred percent
strike great in turning all of these young lives around.
How do you take twenty percent and it would still
be worth it.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
It's interesting, though, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Like the that's true like statistically, but it's not just
like a black and white success and fail situation, because
the failures involve somebody trying to hijack a car with
a machette. Like it's not It's not just an EF
on a test, you know what I mean? Yeah, it's

(05:46):
it's all. It's pretty complicated, doesn't it. You talk said right,
So if you've been listening to News Balks Said Been
or the Rewrap lately my two podcasts, you will have
heard me bleed on about the fact that I'm trying
to buy a new car. I don't mean a new gar,
I mean a news car obviously, because for a new
KAK prefers to people to buy.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
A new cat anyway. And you know how electric do
I want that card to be or should look just
be a bit highbridy or perhaps not at all.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
It's all very confusing, and especially when it comes to
the charges as well.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
Just on the old charger situation. Now, this was some
time ago that we were charging up in twice, all
with our WEPHGV and we got told off by someone
who drove in with the Tesla, saying you shouldn't be here.
You got to plug in. You've got petrol you can use,
give me the charger. Sorry, mate, I'm gonna wait until
i'm done. Tough, really tough.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Wait did you throw hands?

Speaker 6 (06:41):
No, we didn't throw hands. In the end, they got
really grumpy, jump back in the testa and just had
to wait.

Speaker 7 (06:46):
Really yeah, I mean you can't do that.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
It's not exactly.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
It doesn't get to judge how you drive or what
you need to charge.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
That's what I said. I said, Look, I'm plugged in,
it's charging. You wait, buddy.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
Although we had that little dispute before or I wanted
to charge my phone, plug into this little socket here,
and then you were like, what percented you on? Because
you had a because you had a lower percentage, you
were trying to claim.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
It was your your right to charge fits.

Speaker 6 (07:08):
I know that was a higher demand than you're fifty.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
You can constantly amazed by how people seem to run
out of battery on their phones all the time. I
don't know if it's just that I run a nicer
phone with a bigger battery, or just not constantly doom
scrolling through it. By the time I get to bed,
most days I've talked at about seventy eighty percent left

(07:33):
from the phone. Sometimes I think do I even need
to put it on the charge tonight? So can anybody
tell me the difference between a mild hybrid and a
full hybrid? Stop talking about trying of oka. Okay, here
is Andrew Dickens. He is standing in for Ryan Bridge,

(07:53):
who's standing in for Hither, who's standing in for mic
We've had a better fly flattis wings and then he's
a tsunami on the bridge that day. Not that I'm
calling Hither a tsunami. It's just a similar or an analogy,
or it's one of those things that you don't need
to watch one is with.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Anyway, let's get back to Andrew.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
On the early edition, he was talking about the ferry plan,
which is supposed to be ours any day now.

Speaker 8 (08:20):
So from what I've heard so far, it seems as
though the government will pick up some second hand boats
which actually have more life after them than before them.
But that's what happens when you pick up a second
hand boat. But that's not really an issue unless, of course,
they start falling apart as soon as we get them.
So when we look at this plan that comes out
this week, we need to be looking at the port
rather than the boats. Will it be relocated, will it

(08:42):
be strong enough to bear up to the inevitable earthquake,
will the terminal be comfy or will the terminal be
a chili shed? And how much do you want to
spend on this? Kiwi Rail was arrogant thinking that the
government will provide them with their billions on their say so,
a blank check. But so the government wasn't wrong to
say tyhoe. But the government now has to prove that

(09:03):
their plan is not just a second hand option that
will continue to provide head in the years to come,
because the indisputable factors. We are a country that's mostly
spread over two islands with twenty six miles of very
treacherous water between them, and so the infrastructure that connects
the two of us together is absolutely one hundred percent critical.

(09:27):
So let's see what this planet's coming out on Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
We hope.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
I was down in Wellington a couple of weekends ago
and saw the theories coming and going and None of
them seem degrass do anything while I.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Was there, so that was good.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
I imagine if the plan when they bring it out
is really a radical though, like they just left the
South Islands to siege and we don't actually have to
worry about having theories between the two islands anymore. News
talk has it been And you've had a lot of
stupid ideas in the podcast today here.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Yeah, I don't know what's going on there.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
We're going to finish out here talking something that Marcus
would like to see band and I think I'm one
hundred percent behind him on this one.

Speaker 7 (10:16):
Marcus, I'd banned jet skis well, I don't thin it'd
be one person of disagree with you. There, cheap as creepers,
the old knuckledraggers and their jet skis, screaming engines, ruining
the ambience of the beautiful beach. No one likes jet skis.
No one, and all your people with jet skis you
need to know that everyone hates you that annoying noise

(10:38):
and looks so mindless. They might be fun to ride,
but certainly the hatred that you garner from everyone would
not make up for how enjoyable they are That's the
one text I've resonated with the most. Weving get them
in the bluff harbor up, they go up the harbor

(11:00):
out to the straight back, they come through the fishing nets.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Terrible an annoying noise. Yeah, that's right, I've said it.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Couldn't agree more. Hate them, absolutely hate them. I mean
I don't agree with the part he said with nobody
likes them. Obviously, some people do like them because they
own them and they ride them.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
But I mean it's basically just boy races.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
On water, isn't it. And most of us have agreed.
You don't like races and they need to be stopped.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Isn't it the same thing? Hate them?

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Absolutely hate them? Anyway, that has been news to have
been for Tuesday. It was pretty random, actually, wasn't it.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Do you like it like that or not? Really?

Speaker 2 (12:03):
I hope you do because it is quite often quite random,
isn't it. I'll see you back here again tomorrow. Sorry,
it might just be perfectly sensible tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
You never know.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
That's that's the way you should always tune in, Always
give it a listen, see how random.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
It's going to be.
