Wine: Smith & Sheth CRU Central Otago 2022 Pinot Noir - $50

Why I chose it:

- I was recently asked to recommend a special wine that could be used to toast a yet unborn baby. The wine should be able to be enjoyed in around five years and should survive less than perfect storage. My budget was up to $100.

- I chose the Smith & Sheth Pinot Noir because it is the sort of wine that could be enjoyed by a wide range of people and not just wine enthusiasts.

- It is sealed with a screwcap which will help it run the distance.

What does it taste like?

“Perfumed pinot noir with seductive floral, black cherry vanilla, dark berry wine in an appealing and very drinkable style. Made with a light touch the wine has a silken and almost ethereal texture.”

Why it’s a bargain:

$50 is a lot of money to spend on a bottle of wine, but in this case, it is a lot of wine and will give great pleasure on an important occasion.

Where can you buy it?

- Smithandsheth.com

- Recently released and small production might make it hard to find initially but shop around – it’s worth hunting for.

Food match?

Duck confit is a classic match.

Will it keep?

No rush, five or six years? Up to ten years with careful storage.

That'd be try to catch up with our master of Wine,
Bob Campbell for his best buy this week, and he's
chosen a smith and chief CRUs Central Otago twenty twenty
two pen on whaff of fifty dollars of Bob, Why
did you choose it?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Cura Jack? While I was recently asked to recommend a
special wine that a couple could use to toast them
as yet unborn baby. The brief was that the wine
should be able to be enjoyed in around five years.
That's about as long as they could wait perfect storage.

(00:46):
My budget was up to one hundred dollars, So they're
quite serious about this. And I chose the smith and
chef Pino Nor because it's the sort of wine that
could be enjoyed by a wide range of people and
not just wine enthusiasts. It's an absolute cracker of a wine.
And you could have to wait for the pinning birth

(01:08):
of the baby. You can create create all sorts of
reasons to open a special bottle in about five years,
so I thought the listeners might be interested.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, And so it's stealed with a screw crap with
a screw cap, which will help it to run the distance,
especially if it's not in perfect storage. What does it
taste like.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
It's a very perfumed I think it's found its seductive,
floral sort of black cherry, vanilla, darkberry, just so drinkable.
Just one of those wines that begs to be, you know,
for another glass to be poured. It's made with a

(01:52):
light touch. The wine's got a real silk and almost
etherial texture.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Right, Oh, that sounds beautiful. Uric in fifty dollars is
good value for this one. Obviously, there's a lot of
lot of money for a lot of people.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
But this is special, yes is yes, Yes, not an
everyday wine, that's for sure, not in my book. I'm
sure there are people who can drink wines of a
stature every day. But yeah, it's just it's to give
pressure on an important occasion, is what it's all about.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
And so can you buy Bob.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well, it's's only recently released and I had a little
bit of trouble finding it, so I went to the source.
Smith and Chef Steve Smith is a Kiwi master of
wine and a good friend of mine. I rang him up,
said where can I get it? And he said it's
it's best thing is to go online Smithandschef dot com

(02:53):
and and he said.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
It's supposed to go yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Forty, but that's sorry, fifty dollars. But if you if
you choose to join in the Slip and Chess Wine Club,
you get ten dollars off. So that's forty dollars, which
I think it's a hicul by for forty blicks.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
And when that special occasion or the anniversary rolls around,
what would you match it with?

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Well, the classic with pino noir is Duck com Fee
and so that's the sort of established perfect.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
That's the way to go. Yeah, and like you say,
it'll it'll last at least five years. What about with
good storage.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Yeah, good stores ten?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
No, ye're nice?

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, longer even more. Actually, you have to be a
little bit conservative because you're never absolutely sure it's going
to be looked after.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
No, that makes a lot of sense, Thanks Bob. That's
Master of Wine. Bob Campbell's backed this week is a
Smith and Chef CiU central Otago Pino Noir from twenty
twenty two for fifty dollars For
