Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Saturday Morning with Jack Tame podcast
from News Talks at be.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Need too Pretend. I've never seen an ugly truth that
I can be and it's something that looks better stupid
bottom clever. Yeah, I can make a show a goal
like forever. It's light too good. He say, like you

(00:38):
just shows.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Is Sabrina Carpenter. That song is called lie to Girls.
It's from her new album Short and Sweet Stale Cliff
has been listening Hey Stelle morning.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
So this is an entire album of pretty sweet melodies
and some really cool eighty synth pop stuff, but then
really sharp tongue lyrics right as you kind of get
in there as well, where it's a little bit like
it sounds really beautiful and like a nice ballad, and
then you know, she's kind of pretty much saying we

(01:12):
all just lie to ourselves about our relationships. It's like, whoa,
it's quite rough. I was kind of expecting her to
be quite Disney PRINCESSI like, I haven't listened to too
much of Sabrina's back catalog, so I had a bit
of an interpretation of what I thought she was going
to be because she had been on Girl meets World. Yes,
with the Disney channels, I think I'd sort of pitched

(01:33):
her somewhere and then I like, hear this album and
I'm like, oh wow, she's got way more sassin attitude.
But maybe that is the new Disney Princess. Maybe that's
the gen gen Za's version of what a Disney princess is, right,
like a bit of a sharp time and I'm going
to say it how it is. So, this is her
sixth album. It has debuted atop the Billboard two hundred,

(01:54):
which is huge for her, and a couple of the
songs off this album have given her Please Please Please
give her number first, number one on the Billboard Hot
one hundred. Right, I think it says a lot for
the fact that what you're forget is there were quite
a few albums before this one, so no one ever
really has that overnight success, right, It's like constant work.
But this is the album that I think has really

(02:16):
gelled for a lot of people. And I think it
is because there are some really catchy, awesome melodies. There's
some really cool guitar lead songs where it's like clap
along sing along. You could almost imagine an acoustic version
around the campfire and anyone's just letting out, you know,
their feels around the camp which I think will be
great for her live shows. Probably no surprise that Jack

(02:38):
Antonoff has produced and helped write some of the songs
that are on this album, and I think again what
that's done by his sixth album, it's really honed who
she is as a songwriter and then how to put
that into production. So it's quite clean production, everything we
probably expect from a pop album. And when you've got
some powerhouses behind you producing it, then you know you're
sort of getting into the juchtory of Taylor Swift and

(03:01):
people like that, aren't you so totally yeah, yeah, and
when you're topping all the charts and things as well.
Say that some of her lyrics, when it is about
that whole how we treat ourselves and others in relationships,
probably is a bit of a gen Z like the
gen zetas I'm hanging out at the moment and within
a show are really in there with her. Yeah, But
I think we can all relate to that with some
of the perhaps misguided relationships we've had, so plenty in

(03:25):
there for other people to you know, to relate to
and if you're needing to let out some of your
bad relationship doju, then I reckon this is probably a
good album.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
To do that.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
And high energy team post stuff as well. You know,
when you put that eighties disco vibe into a lot
of the songs, then I think you're already it's already
sounding so fun that you can't help but go along
with it, right until she drops a few swears and
you're like, holy, didn't expect that, But okay, and she's
done some clean versions too, so don't worry parents. When
you're a kids start singing the songs back to you.

(03:57):
They may or may not have heard the clean versions.
I'm not really sure, but I'm enjoying it. I like
her voice, and I like the twist on pop when
it sort of comes in from other genres at the
same time, but also just adding that little bit of
editude when it comes to her lyric writing. Say it
how you mean it?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Right? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Totally nice? Yeah, Okay, So what do you give it?

Speaker 4 (04:18):
I'm giving it a I'm going to give it a
seven and a half out of ten. I've been too
generous with my numbers and now I'm like trying to
back or something.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
No, I think I don't think you've been too generous,
have you? I don't think so?

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Yeah, constantly sitting around this sort of seven't we so?

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Okay, Yeah, it's a good listen. Have a listened to
let out some of your like I said, bad relationship
ju and you'll enjoy it with her, I.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Think, speaking of your absolute most positive reviews of all time.
Next week on the show, just so you know, we've
got Troy Kingy coming on so very much. Looking forward
to that motto your foe.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Yeah, that's in a great yard.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Chat all right, see Stelle. That is a Steale Clifford
music reviewer. Short and Sweet is the new album by
Sabrina Carpenter. See it and a half out of ten.
It's al rickons it's worth what have I listened to
one of the songs from the album in a couple
of minutes.
