Speaker 1 (00:00):
Indeed, eight minutes past eight, I have belt whether us
Andrew Sevil. Morning to you both.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Morning morning, and.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Guy, you're at Jamaica House.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yeah, I saw it.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Pop along to Jamaica House for the one hundred meter
final tonight our time, Mike, And let me tell you
what are we about? Seven or eight minutes after the
race has been run, and Noahlyiles wins and there are
approximately I would say, a twentieth of the amount of
people who were here ten minutes ago and emptied out,
and they are gathers.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
It's the same I'm saying. I assume it's the same
rules as motor racing. It's you can get the same time,
but it's the person who crosses the line first that wins.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yeah, exactly. They went to a photo and I think
Noahlyles maybe just had even more of his body across
the line, which may have separated it. You couldn't ask
him much more of a margin, though, my word, it
was tiny. What a race? What one hundred meter final?
It was built up to be an epic, and it
certainly lived up to that case.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Certainly, it's good because last time we talked and I
didn't have time at the time to raise it with
your guy. But you were looking on Friday when we
had you on the program for the Beach volleyball but
you failed to find the beach by the Beach Volleyball venue.
Was the Jamaica House situation a little bit clearer for you.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
The Jamaica House venue is very easy to find and
a great venue with phenomenal food a great vibe. The
Beach Volleyball venue is actually quite tricky to find because
there are fences bloody everywhere, as you can imagine around
the Eiffel Tower, so it's like a maze down there.
We managed to find a champions Park I think it's called,
which is on the other side of the Eiffel Tower,
(01:35):
but still yet to make it to the Beach Volleyball.
That's this week's start.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Okay, Andrew the clue guy, here's a clue.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Look for sand in the middle of a city and
you're probably watch.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Out for it.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Very good the old and you're in Jamaica, you're in
Jamaica House, and you've breathing through your nose or your mouth.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
There's yeah, all I could well at the moment as
jerk chicken Andrew. None of the other stuff that you're
thinking about. I thought oblique Seville was was Andrew Saville.
For a second, I thought we'd come back aside to
your sprinting glory.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
That's my that's my Jamaican cousin. Just don't eat, don't
eat the biscuits make But what a final, Mike, I
think from first to last was it was was a
tenth of the second.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
It's not bad, Yeah, proper race the were you were
you as tearful as Jokovic was Andrew at his victory,
which which was the question, doesn't it with a gold
medal count? So, I mean, given what he's done for
him to break down, it obviously means something, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yes, it does. And it was a it was a
it was a great final against al Karez. It wasn't
a walk over in any sense of the of the
of the term. And I would imagine he's very proud
to win for his country first and foremost, very proud Serbian.
So a bit of a motion there, but I still
like it's still it's still he's It's our taste when
(03:02):
you're watching golf and tennis and football, even basketball to
a degree, and a few other team sortes. I just
do not belong there. It just bloated the Olympics. I
don't belong here, No.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
They don't. I tend to agree, guy. The one I
discovered over the week in which well, first of all,
I didn't realize there was a team triathlon, a multi
male female team triathlon. Two that whatever that sport is
that we're paddling in threes down the white water, which
is an extraction of the original event. I mean, do
they literally just make up sports?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Kayak cross is the one you're talking about there where
they race it's kind of like a sprint down a
whitewater course. I suppose, Yeah, I think that's relatively new,
and I'm guessing it's to try and introduce a new audience,
appeal to a younger audience what they're all trying to
do at the moment, which is why, of course I've
got breakdancing in the Olympics. I quite liked that, I
(03:59):
must be honest, I thought there was a bit more
you quite exciting.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
What do you mean? Is it just is that what
it's become though? Guy? Has it become a television sport
that you go? I quite like that? Is that what
the Olympics are sporting?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Look, don't I don't think it should be at the Olympics. Absolutely.
I don't think it should be at the Olympics in
terms of enjoyment watching it, though I did get some
enjoyment out of it. But I'm exactly the same as
you guys. I don't think I should be there. I
don't think golf should be there. Football definitely shouldn't be
there when it's not even the best players in the
world at the under twenty three players and rugby sevens.
I mean, why does rugby sevens need to be there.
There are a number of sports that don't need to
(04:33):
be there. I think kayak cross is probably one of
them as well. But you could wipe out a whole
number of them and just have the that let's say,
the pure Olympic sports for one of a better word,
and I think you'd never hit them, sir.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
But we're going to have a conversation this week and
you'll know there's more than I do. But this medal
count now worries me. So we're running out of time
and days and you know who's in their day nine.
I'm looking at names, and you know we got problems here.
This doesn't look good doesn't is.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
It two gold? Obviously Carrington and the kayakers will pick
up a couple you'd think, yep, maybe maybe a couple
in the track cycling or a few medals in the
track cycling, although that's that can sometimes be a little
bit of a lottery, has to be a little bit
of a concern. But this often happens. Make a bit
of a surge near the end. So we'll wait and see.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Okay, speed climbing guide. Do you know where that is?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
So I know where it is?
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah? You got the best? Is there's going to be
something worth watching? Or is this another one of these
invented things that you know it's a recreational pursuit, isn't it?
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah it is. It's another one. I think that what
we were talking about before they had it in Tokyo.
And I must say, when you watch it for the
first couple of times, it is bloody impressive.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
It's pretty, and you.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Watch it about twenty times in a row, you kind
of go, Okay, I've seen I've seen that once. I've
seen that enough. But yeah, what watch it at least
once or twice because it will blow your mind how
quickly they get up that wall.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Okay, I think the games might have got to avoid
becoming a cheap version of the X Games. Yeah, I think.
And if there's talk of this talk of gaming like
EA sports coming into the Olympics, I mean, goodness sake,
you look at surfing and going back to figures before
you look at surfing, I think they only had ten
of the top twenty surfers in the world entered. That's
(06:10):
not that's not a true indication of global surfing power.
Is it all the top at the top of the game.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
But see, I was watching a little bit of the
golf over the weekend. They had a really as as
far as a golf field, I mean, it shouldn't be
there for a start, But as far as the field's concerned,
I was looked. I didn't know whether I was watching
the US Open, the Masters or the Olympic Games. I
mean it's just.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah, for shift that to win it, that's that is Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah, the best, the best players in the world were
at the top of the leaderboard. So that's kind of
all you can ask if you're going to if you're
going to put them all together. But I agree with you,
it shouldn't be there.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Do you see the Warriors. Andrew, you said, that's crap.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yep, it's not a weird time. Every time they made them,
every time they made a mistake pretty much, the Eels
scored off it.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
And the Eels aren't any good. That's the problem.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Titans are no.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Good, no good Jamaican sprinting supporter at the moment. Well,
it's down the.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
It's it's what we're into now, unfortunately, and and Webster's
not helping when he goes at the end of the game.
It's not up to NRL standard, you know, no kidding, Sherlock,
but he was supposed to have had the key to
unlock it all. And then for a while there we
looked like we were something. And now we've gone back
to this business of losing.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Lock it against the Panthers. They unlock it against other
top teams, but against the low teams they lose. Yeah,
it's just it's it's he'd scratch you.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Here's the really important thing that so, yes, we can
still make the eight. Let's say we do. Let's say
we do. Let's say we do. The problem is we're
not good enough to be there in a consistent fashion
to go on and do it. Because we'll get excited,
then we'll go and get spanked by somebody.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Give up on the dream. It's not happening. They're not
going to make the eight.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
And I looked at them and I would pack lineup,
Mike on the weekend. That was an outstanding bunch of forwards.
Of Worries on the field.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
The team on paper, it's fantastic. I don't know what
to do. It says here hang on text, Mike. The
table tennis gold medal match was sensational. Can either of
you confirm that.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
China against Sweden? It was very very good. Yes, it
was excellent. It had an add all of it. Watch
it and so was I must say so was the
men's tennis final between al Karaz and Jokovic. Two sets,
So it was on paper straight sets. But if you've
got time watch as much of the replayers that he
as you can. It was the highest quality tennis match
(08:33):
I have seen for some time. Absolutely unbelievable. And for
Djokovic to win that, I know, we're going back to
the start of the conversation, but for Djokovic took the
NAT when he's just come out of surgery about five
weeks ago, that's quite.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Remarkable and also given what happened at Wimbledon. Of course
is the other thing, Andrew quickly on Argentina. Are we
fizzing about Argentina this weekend or not?
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I think the All Black should win both some silly comfortably.
I'm looking forward to seeing will Jordan back. I'm pretty
I'm pretty sure he will slot it back in to
fall back.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
I reckon. But that's It's not exciting, though, is it.
It's not a thing. It's not as.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Exciting to see how this All Black team goes again
under Scott Robertson and co. But the opposition I don't.
I think Argentina's gone off the ball the last year
or two anyway.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Okay, what about Australia and South Africa? Are they much
chop long?
Speaker 2 (09:18):
And Joshmiddal had the Aussies up for it in Sydney
and the Africans rather will be very hard to beat
into Africa two games all right?
Speaker 1 (09:27):
It just reminds me on the table tennis, Andrew, I
read an article over the weekend. It was one of
the Australian papers that said, it's the sport that we
all like to back ourselves on, especially after a couple
of beers. Do you play a bit of table tennis
after a couple of beers or before beers.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
I'd say table tennis, Paul Dart, maybe tennis, a bit
of badminton after a couple top of the world.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Hot dog eating on time, on top of the world.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Having a good time. Is this like one of those
you know, highlights as a journalist, all that sort of stuff.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
I'll tell you what, Yes, it is. And the day
of the Means Triathlon was one of the highlights of
my career. For the race itself, it was an epic race,
and then for just the way that Hayden wild Hand
had handled himself, for the time that he gave up
to come and talk to us, for his honest dance
as all that sort of stuff was pretty cool. And
(10:21):
then yesterday to see a legend like Emma Twig bow
out the way she did. I know she didn't win bold,
but silvera for her as an epic achievement and she
was just fantastic to deal with as well. So yeah,
it's been really great and I know, look, yeah the medal,
Telly is a bit slow at the moment, but canoe
racing to come track cycling to come potentially a couple
(10:41):
of medals in sailing. There is still a little bit
of stuff to watch out, so we could still get
New Zealand could still get to mid teens potentially.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Mike may have velt highlight was his walk and talk
with Hayden Wild down the shomps Elisa after that fantastic
try race and it was a miracle. The guy didn't
fall any dog, pill cigarette, but for homeless people.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
While we're talking to him, it was you know, I
made it there, Andrew. He had just finished a triathlon.
I ran approximately five hundred meters and was just about
out of gas. I could barely do the end. Although
although I did, I think it was a.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Little rude that when Hayden was answering your searching questions
you did take a peep into the Louis Vauton and
Chanelle Stoes on your way, on your way down the road.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Nice to see you, guys, Andrew Sevil, guy who.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
