Craig McMillan: White Ferns assistant coach on the team's T20 World Cup final win

It's undoubtedly been one of our greater weekends of sport, from sailing, to the Silver Ferns, football and of course, the cricket.

The White Ferns beat South Africa by 32 runs in Dubai to win the T20 World Cup for the first time in their history.

Woman of the match and tournament Amelia Kerr top-scored with 43 runs and bagged figures of 3-24 in a crucial performance to secure the team's first international silverware since the 50-over title in 2000.

Assistant coach Craig McMillan joined Mike Hosking.

Quickly to Dubai. We've got to celebrate because we won
the T twenty World Cup. Of course, Craig McMillan is
the assistant coach of the White Ferns. Craig's well, there's Craig, Morning.

I reckon, what are you more excited about the White
Ferns winning or the Black Caps? Which is the singing?

Has it been like this?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, the party's going good. The girls are on the
microphone and got the boom box going like a special
week head for New Zealand cricket obviously, but winning a
World Cup is something very special. The second one for
the girls. Last one was in two thousand, so a
long time between drinks, but just so proud of the girls,
the effort, the work that's got and not only the

girls that the staff as well. They don't happen by accident,
so I'm just so proud of everyone. It was a
really complete performance.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Today, fantastic. It started off early. You know, they were
chasing and they looked to be sitting a good pace
where you nervous it in your board.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
We knew they were going to come out hard. This
house South Africa play and they have done it well
throughout the tournament. They did it well in the semi
final against Australia, so we just had to show some composure.
We knew we'd put a good total on the board.
The girls are better beautifully to put one sixty on
the board watching those conditions, we thought was an above
PAS score. So Africa we knew were going to come
out hard, so we just had to hold our nerve

and the girl's bowl beautifully. The fielding was outstanding and
it's been really good throughout the tournament and we got
what we were after.
