Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's New Zealand's home for trusted news and views. The
Mike Hosking Breakfast with Raindrover leading by example, news Togs,
dead BB.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome to their new planes and shoppers for the military.
Scott Robinson with a new team for Argentina. We're going
to talk wall. Are we going to talk about the
good news for first home buyers as well? Kate and
John Keeper the week after right, Richard Arnold cross America.
Marie Olds is in the Big Red Land to the
left of its Posking. Welcome to the day, seven past six.
Now one of these speaking of the Big Red Land?
What are the never never the twain shall meet moments
(00:31):
that came out of COVID was this work from home business?
Speaker 3 (00:33):
There?
Speaker 2 (00:34):
I mean here we are five years on and the
battle has not only not died, it's intensified. The big
gab Fest this week in Canberra had the unions asking
for a four day week. Thank you very much. Victoria
run of course these days by communists has already stated
they will put it into law even though they can't.
And now the obligatory poll that shows guess what, huge
numbers of people want the right in law to work
(00:56):
from home other side of the equation is the poor
businesses who are pulling their hair out, and in places
like the UK and America it's got a bit ugly
with mandates and threats over returning to the office or
else we're going to sack you. The Coalition in Australia
in the recent campaign, you might remember, ran on a
policy of banning work from home for public servants. It
went down like a cup of cold sick and was,
(01:17):
among other things, like their nuclear policy, seen as the
reason they lost so badly. And that's the trouble with democracy,
isn't it. What if the people are wrong, what if
the collective don't get it and more importantly don't care.
You can run a pole, I mean I could run
a pole that says, would you like the government to
pay for a family sized chocolate block and a French
Martini for every New Zealander every Friday. I mean you
get lots of support for that, wouldn't you? What we
(01:38):
want and what makes sense doesn't always align. Oh but
I save time and the commute, Yes you do. And
that's good because you've got to remember that not all
ideas are one hundred percent bad or one hundred percent good,
right or wrong, But on the whole working from home
does not suit the employer as much as the employee.
Are there exceptions, of course, there are exceptions, but exceptions
(01:58):
are not the debate. The debate is the law, and
the law applies to everybody, and then that is the problem.
Making it worse is the people who make the laws
are given their jobs, of course by the people who
do the polls. So do you suck up to them
or give them what they want or do you do
the right thing? And given in this case the right
thing may not be the popular thing.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
News of the world in ninety seconds.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
That's start in the UK, given it's fairly busy. Firstly,
it's gc SE day. They thanks over the results both
specifically and nationally. The government has a plan.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
For far too many young people. The education system is
still not delivering for them and that is why we
are really focused as a government on making sure that
we start at the veriest earliest years with really quality
early education. We're bringing in free breakfast club, more.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Records being set as migrants land on British laws.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
I don't see many.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
I suppose why it's British people around.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
It's like a sensitive emotional.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I remember how it was.
Speaker 6 (02:58):
I remember the community.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Seventeen year old nut job inspired by Hitler to blow
up a mosque in Scotland. He's ended up in court.
Speaker 7 (03:09):
You infiltrated the center and took videos showing the layer
of the building. You joined a messaging group made up
of members from the center and attended there, taking part
in prayers with the congregation in order to learn the
layer of the premises and who attended the center.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Right to the stikes from the midst service at nags
Head and Egg's Head, which is North Carolina. Aran hasn't
proved to be as bad as they feared.
Speaker 8 (03:30):
Overall, it appears that the outer banks did what they do.
They withstood this hurricane. They are digging out right now
assessing the situation. Thus far, we've not had any injuries
or deaths reported to us due to this storm.
Speaker 9 (03:44):
Good.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
We should mention the meeting, what meeting exactly? Doesn't it
Lesska seem a long time ago. A and the Russians
are in no.
Speaker 10 (03:50):
Hurry when and if the matter, I hope, when comes
to signing future agreements, the issue of legitimacy of the
person who will sign these agreements with the Ukrainians will
be resolved.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Then from the music department, they've found some new Beatles songs.
Speaker 11 (04:05):
We're also going to get some new mixes done by
the original producer, jeff Oline, a Yellow fan of Free
Spirit and Real Love, which were sort of big resurgent
hits off the back of the anthology, so I'm very
excited to hear what he's done there as well.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
As they said, all you need is love and new music,
and that is news of the world. In ninety the
Texans got it done. Eventually they found the Democrats and
they came back to Texas and they had a vote
and the vote was eighty eight to fifty two, which
was this is the redistricting, and of course eighty eight
to fifty two, which is what it was always going
to be. Because numbers don't why eleven past six.

Apple have increased overnight. There are streaming service price it's
going to twelve ninety nine. This is in the US.
I don't know what it turns out to in this
particular part of the world, but the increases global, so
it doesn't matter where you are. Do you know, just
in twenty twenty two, which wasn't that long ago, it
was four nine to nine, then it went to six
nine nine, then it went to nine nine nine, and
as of this morning it's going to twelve nine nine.
I mean, does that cost plus accounting of what fourteen
(05:11):
parts from jmol Andrew Keller her good morning, very good morning, Mike,
right o, let's bolt through it good and bad, F
and P what they have to say. I thought their
terror of comments were interesting. They don't seem to be
being held back by those.
Speaker 12 (05:25):
No, not at all. So yes, lots of announcements. Yes,
they said, we'll take a bit of a romp through
some of them. Fisher and pikel Healthcare, first Lee the
big guy on the New Zealand Marcus so biggest stock
in the ends ofex fifty index, important for the index
direction where it.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Goes, the index tens to go.
Speaker 12 (05:40):
So yesterday those was all announced at their annual shareholders
they yesterday yesterday with the focus was really on the
twenty twenty sixth financial year. So where they announced the
twenty five financial year, we're in the twenty six year
now spoiler alert. The share price finished the day yesterday
eighty cents, or just over two percent, So it tells
a story that the guiders was received pretty well. So
(06:01):
they indicated Mike, the positive trading mentum is set to continue.
So looking at estimated revenue for the first half of
twenty twenty six at one point zero seven five billion,
net profit, archtertacks of two hundred million, very much consistent
with expectations, maybe a little ahead actually, so they get
a tick on that front.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
But if look, if you.
Speaker 12 (06:19):
Just take a step back, it was consistent with expectations,
but they're.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Well ahead of where they were last year.
Speaker 12 (06:25):
So they were expected to do better and they did,
so it suggests the trading year has started well. Full
year guidance unchanged. Yes, they're affected by tariffs. It does
affect their gross margin that is built into those forecasts.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
So happy days.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Here, Yeah, not so happy for Sky.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yeah no, not really.
Speaker 12 (06:42):
I mean we talked about it in the week, didn't we, Mike.
The company request that they went into a training hole.
Speculation about in the media about a capital raise. Company
announced a non committal announcement, say no decision had been made,
and then they Estaate announced that yes they were.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Doing a capital raise.
Speaker 12 (06:56):
So they're looking for two hundred and forty million of
new equity, so that's new share capital leading this into
this market. And I think we said I don't think
the market was expecting a capital raise. I mean not
to talk about asset sales, but they do need to
improve their balance sheet reduce debts.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
So now they're going to do both.
Speaker 12 (07:12):
The capital raised a combination of institutional placement I think
eighty five million there and one hundred and fifty nine
million a pro rata entitlement offer at seventy cents a share,
So that's a hefty discount to previous trading levels of
sort of ninety to ninety five. You asked the question, Mike,
of whether or not they would raise these funds. The
question was actually answered sort of obliquely yesterday when one
(07:33):
key shareholder said that they were reluctantly participate pacing because if.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
They don't, they'll get too heavily diluted.
Speaker 12 (07:41):
At the Q and A, they did say that they
would breach banking covenants if they didn't do. The capital
rais out for twenty six. Looks a little week of
than expectations. It's a tough trading environment. They're very much
looking forward to the opening of the International Convention Center.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
To the gosh, that has taken some time?
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Has the other sky on TV today? Interesting? Now Scaleer
up more good news?
Speaker 12 (08:02):
Yeah, So if we want to finish on a positive five,
where do you look? You look for the exporders and
you look for the ag resector. So Scaler up net
profit after tax in line with expectations, but which downplays
the fact that expectations were for a record result and
as the company points out, record outcomes everywhere. Profit nine
percent up, revenues seven percent up. Not just the agre
(08:24):
sector though, they also have an industrial division which had
a record result as well. They've worked hard to mitigate
the impact of tariff. They're affected by tariffs as well.
They did warn that taris would increase costs in future
financial years, but when tariff were first announced Mite the
share price fell below four bucks. Yes, that's training at
five bucks. So nice to recover their job. Well done,
(08:45):
good stuff. Actually, speaking of good news, how about Frontierrarah, Yeah,
let's just finish off on the never ending stream of
good news. So Fonterra lifted the twenty five forecast farm
gate milk price from ten dollars to ten dollars fifteen
and Mike, what is better than a great eight year
with the farm gate milk price? What is better than that?
Speaker 2 (09:02):
I don't know what.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Two years of a great farm gate milk price.
Speaker 12 (09:06):
So they ten dollars have retained, but they've narrowed the
they've narrowed the range of the for the twenty twenties.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
For the following financial year still at ten bucks. So
you get two great years of a farm gate milk price.
The first year farmers were paying down a lot of that.
Speaker 12 (09:19):
Maybe they'll start spending and maybe, you know, some of
that positive energy will come.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Remember you remember Bill English, we'll never see eight dollars again.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Well, yeah we did.
Speaker 12 (09:28):
And two years at ten double digit farm gate milk price.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Good on them.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I couldn't agree more. What are the numbers?
Speaker 12 (09:35):
Look the Dow jones. The US markets are just weakening
a little bit. We've got this Jackson Hole speech by
Jerome Powell. He has used that as a platform previously
to sort of make important announcements, and the market's just
a little bit worried he's going.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
To pull back on interest rate cuts. How would Trump
react to that? Anyway?
Speaker 12 (09:50):
Forty hundred and eleven on the Dow Jones is down
one hundred and twenty seven points point two eight percent,
the S and P five hundred is down twenty three
points point three seven per C sixty three seven two,
and the Nastak down eighty points. As we're looking at it,
thirty eight point three eight percent twenty one thousand and
ninety two Overnight, the forty one hundred gained point two
(10:11):
three percent nine three oh nine. The nick A Feil
two hundred and seventy eight that's point six five percent.
Forty two thousand, six hundred and ten Shanghai competit was
up small point one three percent. The Aussi's yesterday had
a great day, up one point one three percent on
the ASEX two hundred.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Nine oh one nine the close there, as did the nz.
Speaker 12 (10:30):
A X fifty up one hundred and twenty two points
point nine four percent. Thirteen thousand, one hundred ninety four
Key we dollar steady against the US point five eight
to two to two point nine oh five six against
the ossie point five zero one one, Euro point four
to three three seven pounds eighty six point three one.
Japanese yen gold steady three thousand, three hundred and thirty
(10:51):
seven dollars and break rude just ticked up a little bit, Mike.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Sorry about that. Sixty seven dollars and sixty four cent.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Good man, you have a good weekend. Andrew Keller heer
Joemo well dot co dot m Z. Also the airport
came to the party yesterday. This is Auckland Airport. Net
profit up, revenue up, underlying profit up, income from the
airfield rows. Domestic supplies a problem. You know, they can't
help the number of plans landing. It's not their fault.
But domestic capacities are steady because jet stars up. But
(11:19):
the New Zealand's got those ongoing issues. Overall, not bad.
Six twenty one, Friday Morning on the Mike Hosking Breakfast
No Girl.
Speaker 11 (11:26):
Or Ma.

The Vike Hosking Breakfast Full Show podcast on iHeartRadio powered

Speaker 9 (11:33):
It'd be I.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Should also tell you Quwbank reported yesterday, like Steve Yukovic's
on the program on a fairly regular basis, and he
does a good job. Lendings up, Deposits are up. Their
profit was down a bit, but that's not the end
of the world. I don't think net interest margin two
point twenty five, which is down, well done, squeeze your margins,
That's what I'm all about. They're excited about the harpvillion
(11:55):
that they're going to get that Nicholas allowed them to do,
and they're going to go out and conquer the world. Apparently,
speaking of banks and the mortgages, they came to the
party yesterday the Netherlands moving Ben said I'll give you
the actual numbers and see what you think about them.
Because it's that old debate. They have it more in
Australia than we do here. When the Central Bank moves
twenty five points, the banks are supposed to move twenty
five points. They would argue here that they've already moved
(12:16):
last week. But some of the movements we're getting now
just just misily. But anyway, let me come back to
that six twenty.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Five trending now with warmer square house, you're one style
for Father's Day fragrance.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Now you know the name Amen Holmes. He's been on
the Telly in the UK forever. Used to host a
show called This Morning on ITV with his ex wife,
although she wasn't his ex wife at the time. He
moved to GBTV where he does the Breakfast show. Anyway,
he was speaking with a former Atomic Kitten, Kerry Katona,
about plastic surgery, and Kerry revealed she had a facelift.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
It was making me.
Speaker 13 (12:47):
I feel a bit heavy, so I had not left
for what I don't like.
Speaker 14 (12:54):
You don't look oriental or anything, do you well?
Speaker 1 (12:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
So the oriental thing meant that the producer got in
his ear during the ad break and suggested, you might
want to apologize.
Speaker 14 (13:08):
Apparently you're not allowed to describe someone as looking oriental
or I don't know how I would then describe Carry
Katona if her eyes changed shape. I don't know how
I'm going to say that she looked like someone from
some other country in the eastern of the world. The
world is ridiculous. What's how you have to apologize for people?
(13:29):
I mean, if she if she painted herself. Oh don't
can't get into this.
Speaker 15 (13:33):
But anyway, carry this Carry looks well, and I'm sorry
if you don't look well and we've offended you in
any way or well, I don't.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Know, my remind me to come to this. Watch Scandal
of the Week. If you haven't caught up on this,
watch Scandal of the Week. It is unbelievable. But that's
related date. So meantime, carry Katona. She's gone on the
socials on Instagram and she said, look, this aim is
one of my longest friends. He's done nothing wrong. He
didn't say anything untoward. I adore him, I love him
(14:04):
to bits. I wasn't offended in any way, shape or form.
I absolutely adore aim and Aimen. I love you truly,
I adore you. So I would have thought that settles it,
because I'm a big believer. If the person who allegedly
is offended is not offended, therefore you can't be offended
on their.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
Behalf an entire region.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
No, he's not. Not of the person he was talking
to wasn't offended. You can't be offended because you weren't there.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
No, No, I'm talking about all the other people.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
No, because they weren't watching her. They didn't hear it,
and you're not part of it. Depart of the Oxford
Natural Cosmetic Clinic. This is the part I want to
get to. She'd just been receiving a vitamin C treatment
at the Oxford Natural Cosmetic Clinic in Orderly Edge in Cheshire.
All I want to know is, have you had these
vitamin treatments. Are you into them? Let me know if
(14:50):
you have had them, because it's a big business these days,
and more importantly, of course, whether they work. We'll talk
to the police in a moment. By the way, the commiss.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Next setting the agenda and talking the big issues, the
Mike Hosking breakfast with Bailey's real estate altogether better across residential,
commercial and rural news talks head been.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
It looks like we've got the demands from the Russians
for a ceasefire or a peace agreement, depending on who
you're listening to. Ukraine's got a hand over the Eastern
don Bass, they're going to renounce ambitions to join NATO,
and they've got to keep Western troops out of the country.
So that's not necessarily new, but it does mean that
the chances of a meeting going ahead and the chances
of a peace al I would have thought it was
pretty close to zero. Twenty three minutes away from seven
(15:34):
Richard Arnold shortly back home. Large law enforcement gathering in
the North a New Zealand's hosting the Pacific Islands Chiefs
of Police Conference inter POLS here, which is interesting and
also our deportation policy apparently is an issue, with the
suggestion it could be driving up transnational crime across the Pacific.
Richard Chambers as the Police Commissioner and is with us.
Richard morning to you, Good morning Mike Interpoll being here,
(15:55):
is that a big deal and the chances I'm told
of them setting up a base in the region.
Speaker 16 (16:00):
Yes, it is a big deal. Actually for us here
in the Pacific region. To have the Secretary General Baldzi
your Kisa here for the first time attending the Pacific
Island Chiefs of Police meeting is important for our region.
So he's been able to participate in the conversations and
we've all been able to share the challenges that we have,
you know, what's on the horizon. So he's very very
(16:21):
keen to set up a regional bureau in the Pacific,
and all the chiefs here are supportive of that.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Is it done for the wrong reasons? Are they set
up a base and we've got the FBI as well
as that tell us what a troubled world it is?
Speaker 17 (16:34):
No, no, no.
Speaker 16 (16:35):
Into Poll's got about one hundred ninety six countries that
are members and of the twenty two Pacific chiefs that
are here, thirteen are already members and by joining up
with Interpol, it gives access to information, intelligence and capabilities
that can help us in law enforcement. So it's a
good thing. It's a good thing for our region. But
(16:56):
ultimately it's driven by the membership by the countries that
are here. It's not about intepol coming and imposing themselves.
It's about us driving the opportunity.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
So this specific claim that we deport people and they
then go on to be criminals of an organized nature,
how true is that?
Speaker 16 (17:10):
Well, if deportations are not new and you know even
here in New Zealand five oh one from Australia, we've
seen the impact of that. And there hasn't been conversation
over the last few days about the impact of that
from New Zealand, but there has been a little bit
of conversation about some policies and other countries and how
that may impact on nations. So it's a very real
(17:31):
challenge for all of us, and we've seen that here
in our country as well.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Is it a circular thing? So the firebox ones come here,
we deport some Polynesians back to Polynesia, et cetera, And
so we're just getting rid of each other's problems.
Speaker 16 (17:43):
Well, I mean, in law enforcement, our jobs is to
enforce the law and the policies that our countries have.
You know, police have got have fallen behind that and
do its things. So I mean, of course, you know
there are reasons why people are being deported and some
of that can impact on the country, but you know,
it's about going back to the countries to which they belong,
and that is not a new challenge for any country.
(18:05):
We've seen it here, so it can come with as challenges,
but it's not a new thing either.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
As regards specific crime and its issue. Here are customs involved,
the airports, all of those sort of people, where the
borders involved.
Speaker 16 (18:18):
Oh absolutely my case. You know, police have a marve
us a big job to do, and we do a
marvel's job, but we can't do it on our own
and we work very closely with customs and immigration and
you know, not only in our own country but offshore
as well. I mean, our focus over the last few
days has been all about safety and security in the
Pacific region and talking about what the challenges are that
(18:40):
we will face. And three big things that have come
out of that is global tension and how that impacts
on us down here in the Southern hemisphere, transnational organized crime.
And also you know what our role is, whether it's
in New Zealand, Australia or other partners about upskilling and
training and supporting our Pacific colleagues. That's where the conversation
has been over the last few days and it's been
(19:01):
very productive of glass day today.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Good stuff, go well, appreciate it very much. Richard Chambers,
who's the police commissioner, You had a very good piece
of the paper the other day. There's sort of a
road trip series going on in the Herald at the moment.
This is bloke who's lived in France. He goes, one
of the things we've learned is you don't know how
lucky we are in this particular part of the world,
which is always encouraging to read, isn't it. Nineteen to seven.

good are these payout numbers? Makes carving a little bit
more enjoyable. I have one of those Vitamin C treatments
each morning when I eight and an orange. Thank you, Dan,
Nice to see Penny Henaa Mike courting the gangs. The
fact labor sympathized with these low lives. There's a lot
(20:31):
about labour. It's the weirdest story. So he comes out
in the meeting if you missed the story, said he's
going to repeal the gang patch. Labour comes out and go, well,
that's not our policy, so no, we're not. Now what
makes it even worse is having been told that, he
goes out last night, says it again, which means he
clearly wasn't told that, which means they don't talk to
each other, which means Penny doesn't have a clue what's
going on.

An American Richard Arend, Good morning, good one to make
sure of Trump on the beat tonight in DC, AH.
Speaker 17 (21:04):
What a scene politics as reality TV?
Speaker 9 (21:06):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 17 (21:07):
President Trump says he's going to take to the streets
of the Capitol this night to watch the roundup of
suspected criminals. Now that he is deploying those armed Guard
National Guards members in the city. We don't have the
details of how he's going to do this. Typically, a
president travels in an armored vehicle known as the Beast.
I was part of a presidential convoy once. There are
about thirty vehicles involved in this thing as we went
(21:29):
through Washington.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
D C.
Speaker 17 (21:30):
Don't know if that's the look they're going for. This
will be interesting to see. Of course, you can't call
it cops because Trump won't be training police, but military
trained guardsman. Meantime, the Washington Post has a new poll
out right now which says that just seventeen percent of
Washington residents back this military takeover of the US Capitol streets.
Seventy nine percent oppose it. JD vanced the veep along
(21:51):
with Defense Secretary Heath Seth and Trump aid. Stephen Miller
were booed when they visited guards members and union station
in the city. He was part of that.
Speaker 19 (22:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (22:03):
Much of the protests had to be bleeped out on air.
Fascist scum and free d C were some of the chants.
Stephen Miller called the protesters crazy and communists. Meantime, the
satirical cartoon shows South Park had a new episode last
(22:23):
night where they showed one character visiting the Capitol with
all its landmarks and monuments.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Oh who Washington Memorial.
Speaker 17 (22:33):
But everywhere they went they depicted goose dipping soldiers alongside tanks. Yeah. Well,
one other Washington item, Trump, in an interview has praised
a plan by Israel Natannah to take over Gaza City
and perhaps call up another sixty thousand reservists. Trump is
praising BB.
Speaker 20 (22:51):
Maybe it's a good man.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
He's in there fighting.
Speaker 19 (22:54):
He's a war hero because we worked together.
Speaker 11 (22:57):
He's a war hero.
Speaker 19 (22:58):
I guess I am too. Nobody cares, but I am too.
Speaker 17 (23:02):
So there's Trump who's skipp Vietnam right because of what
the bones spurs are all now designating himself as an
actual war hero.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Have you got the numbers in Texas though?
Speaker 9 (23:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (23:12):
In a few hours, the state senator is going to vote,
likely confirming all of that, to endorse a vote rigging
plan in their state, where they jerrymander the electoral maps
to give Trump Republicans a likely five additional seats in
the US Congress. They do this by reducing the political
power of blacks and Hispanics. So if you then have
white skin, they redraw the map so you vote means less,
(23:33):
it says Texas Republican Todd Hunter.
Speaker 21 (23:35):
For all of this, the underlying goal of this plan
is straightforward, improve Republican political performance.
Speaker 17 (23:45):
In other words cheat. Now, California says they're going to
fight this tactic by echoing it. They'll remap some of
their own seats, so they want to achieve gust as well,
and even says he's going to support that. California is
Governor Gavin Newsom is saying.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
Fighting fire with fire and want to punch these sons
of bitches in the.
Speaker 17 (24:07):
Mouth so that they're getting bananas. And Newsom is putting
out on social media images where he is trolling Trump,
including a card where Newsom is surrounded by heavenly light
and prayed over by images of Trump acolytes Tucker Culson,
Kid Rock and an angel winged Hulk Hogan.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Unreal see Monday. Richard Arnold State side, Lisa Cook's got trouble.
She's a fed reserved governor. There is a claim against
her that I won't bore you with it at no point,
I mean, I assume she denies it, but nevertheless they've
launched an investigation into her. It looks as political as
it does potentially criminal. Point being of she doesn't resign,
which she isn't going to, they may sack her if
(24:46):
she's guilty, at which point he'll be able to appoint
Trump another member of the Fed board. So it's got
that Scot's vibe about it. He gets lucky and he
points the right people in the right places. He can
be tremendously powerful. If you missed it, they're painting the
wall black. By painting them all black, it'll get hot
and you won't climb it. And it's the other move yesterday.
And he also announced yesterday to Trump they will no
(25:07):
longer be approving any any wind or solar power projects
at all. So I mean, you may not like wind
and solar, or you may not think it's the greatest
thing in the world, or you may not think it's
the total answer. But not having any looks a bit luddite,
doesn't it. Ten Away from seven.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
The Mike Hosking Breakfast with rainthrow fern use.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Tod's deed b just ban zid lower yesterday. I mean
they're all in the same game together. They've trimmed four
basis points, I mean four, so the Reserve Bank cut
twenty five, so they've trimmed four off their one year,
eighty month and three year fixed. They've gone twenty points
off their two year so west Pac am Z and
Kiwibank have dropped their flexible floating rates by twenty points.
(25:53):
They go, but we did some last week as well,
So I get all that. I'm not really complaining. I'm
just thinking, if you're going.
Speaker 9 (25:59):
To go do it.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
I mean you honestly say a look, we've taken four off.
That I mean, is the difference between you know, four
point nine, six and five really gonna move the market?
By the way, that Swatch thing I referred to if
you missed it, so this is a global They've apologized
to Swatched. They pulled an ad a model pulling the
corners of his eyes, an image prompted uproar among the
(26:20):
Chinese social media users for obvious reasons. The pos resemble
the slant eye historically used in mock asians. My only
question when they put the ad out, twenty seven percent
of their revenue, by the way, comes from China, Hong Kong,
the Cow, et cetera. They also own things like Amiga
and Launging and Tissau and stuff like that. My only
question is globally speaking, when you run an ad campaign,
(26:41):
the number of eyes no pun intended. The number of
eyes on a campaign must be hundreds of not thousands
by the time you dig all the company, the size
of Swatch, and all their ad agencies and their creatives
and their copywriters and all the Just tell me how
at no point did anybody go, do you reckon? This
could be trouble? At no point did that get raised
(27:04):
as a potential issue. It's the weirdest thing five minutes
away from seven.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Well, the ins and the outs, it's the bizz with
business tiber take your business productivity to the next level.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Insight in the States this morning on retail Walmart, one
of the biggest players in the world. For Q two,
the net income increased to just over twelve billion billion.
They compared with seven point seven this time a year ago,
so things were on the up. Revenue rows to two
hundred and ninety billion. So two hundred ninety billion revenue,
(27:38):
twelve billion profit. Is that good? Well, it's a bit
of a yes and a bit of a no. They
missed their expectations. Even though the company raised its fiscal
year sales and profit forecast, it led to a four
percent drop in the share price. Sales were up four
and a half percent for the quarter compared the last year.
E commerce up twenty five percent, globally twenty six percent.
In the US, shoppers both visited more and spent more.
(27:58):
That's one of the great stories of modern retail. I
think I told you what was at five, seven, eight, nine, ten,
twelve years ago. I don't think that e commerce is
going to be the thing they think it is. They
thought a lot of people said ecomms was like, there
will be no more shops, there are no more bricks
and mortar, because why would you, because we're all going
to do it online. Yet we haven't. You look at
the numbers around place like Brisco's and stuff like that. Yes,
(28:18):
e commerce grows, but if you look at the overall
percentage of the stuff they sell online versus in store,
it's not that great.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Could you argue that the retail experience is actually improved
because of e commerce?
Speaker 2 (28:31):
It had to be exactly, and those who have improved
it are reaping the roads of the benefit. Clothes especially,
I mean, would you really buy I don't think I've
ever bought clothes online, and I don't think I ever
will because who can be fafft with getting the jersey,
the T shirt, the pair of jeans and they don't
fit and then you've got to get the envelope and
send it back and get it's just what why would
(28:52):
you bother?
Speaker 5 (28:53):
Did those running shoes?
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Ever arove no. Customer transactions were at one point five percent,
average bill was up three point one one of the
few companies remain resilient in the face of the terrace,
although they say stand by PQ three. The prices are
going up. He announced, I won't bore you with a
fine detail. But Trump announced the other day, just this week,
teriffs for it's not just steel and aluminum, as they
(29:16):
call it, but it's every single metal in the world.
Fire extinguishes have gone up in price or will go
up in price exponentially because they've got certain metals in
them that are now tariffs. And the line was, if
it's shiny, it's going to get tariff. So it's all
over the place now, right, speaking of shiny choppers and planes.
(29:38):
So we go to the Americans.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Is this dodgy.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
We go to the Americans and go, hi, guys, we
want to buy some choppers and planes. They then go
to their own people at Lockheed and then go they
allegedly get us to be steel. They say, right, leave it,
leave it, leave it to us. And we'll let you
know how much it costs. Is that weird anyway? New
planes and new choppers for our military. Will look at
the details in just a couple of moments. Scott Robertson
Live from Argentina up to seven thirty.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
The Breakfast Show, Kiwi's Trust to Stay in the Know,
The Mic Hosking Breakfast with a Vita, Retirement, Communities, Life
Your Way News, togs had been.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Morning seven past seven is a big day for defense
of courses. The heavyweight money is laid out for new
planes and choppers. The big bill for the five Seahawks
complete with the anti sub torpedoes. They come in at
two point seven billion. That then we got the two
long rangeybus A three twenty One's herebyas Marshall Darren Webby's
the boss of the Royal New Zealand Air Force news
with us. Good morning, good bye, as do you, Mike,
As far as you're concerned, is this Christmas or something
(30:33):
close to it?
Speaker 22 (30:34):
Well, it's a great day for defense and we're extremely
excited with the announcements of the new aircraft types for
both the Air Force and the Navy.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
That's the shore.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
How different will life be with this new equipment.
Speaker 22 (30:46):
Well, having the right tools to do your job safely
and effectively is hugely important for our people, and so
it's going to be a big game changer for us.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Do you specifically get involved in what was needed and
how many of them and what they cost and where
we buy them from.
Speaker 22 (31:01):
It's a complex business and that's certainly left to the
capability acquisition teams. I'm a capability owner, so once I've
gone through all those decisions, I'm the lucky recipient all
that capability and get it to use it in service.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
You would argue you'd need more of everything though, basically
wouldn't you? In general?
Speaker 22 (31:18):
Well, I think five new choppers is a really good
place to start, and the team up at six Squadron
and finelp I are really excited to get their hands
on them as soon as they can. And of course
the new A through twenty on XLA will be a
really nice change up from the seven five seven.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
So these planes and Choppers, if you're driving bring it
back to domestic stuff. If you're driving a Yarus, a
Toyota Yaris, what if you trade it up to.
Speaker 22 (31:42):
Well, the Seahawk is a state of the combat capable machine.
It has advanced systems on their advanced eyes and ears
if you like to detect to then target, track and
if necessary prosecute targets both on the surface and also subsurface.
And so in what is an increasingly complie world out there,
that is the tool to do the job right.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
And what about the A three to twenty ones?
Speaker 22 (32:06):
Yeah, the A three twenty one, this is a commercial
off the shelf solution for us. We're trying to keep
it as straightforward and as simple as we possibly can.
Speaker 20 (32:13):
It is.
Speaker 22 (32:14):
It is the longest range single aisle twenty aircraft in
the market, and so for a country like New Zealand,
which is a long way from anywhere, that's a real
value to us. For example, it can get us down
to Antarctica with no point of safe return, and having
flown there many times myself, the comfort that comes with
that for the crew and for the passengers is going
(32:34):
to be really important.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
And these are good for how long the planes in shop?
Is a good for? How long? Ten? Twenty thirty?
Speaker 22 (32:40):
Listen, we always get more out of our assets than most,
but I think a good number to start with will
be something like thirty year our service life.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Wow, does this help recruitment. If I thought of joining
the Air Force, seeing one of those choppers surely makes
it more appealing to me.
Speaker 22 (32:55):
Yeah, I think it does. I think you can you
can censor. It's palpable morale lists when we have new
equipment and people are experts at getting the most out.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Of good stuff. Darren, appreciate it. Darren Webb, who's the
Air Vice Marshal of the World News in the there
Force ten minutes past seven calls this morning for a look.
If not an overhauler, but what we call the Clean
Slate Act. This is after a teacher had passed convictions
but nevertheless became registered went on to abuse nine girls.
It wasn't like they weren't warnings, but the teaching council
ignored what they call red stamp warnings. Anyway, Bill Hodges,
(33:24):
a retired Auckland University law professor, in respect, Well, there's
Bill morning to you.
Speaker 19 (33:29):
Well, good morning.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Is the problem the Clean Slate Act or is it
people not being a white when they see red flags?
Speaker 22 (33:36):
Well, I think it's both.
Speaker 19 (33:37):
I can't understand what happened in the teaching council. I mean,
how do you ignore a red flag? Did they go
back and look at the actual offending, and if they had,
I can't see how they would then say under the
statute it was a person of good character and fit
to teach, which is their statutory obligation. But I'm saying
(33:58):
that the statute does need to be overhauled, brought up
to date. It's based on the nineteen sixty one Crimes
Act in terms of the specified offenses and the nineteen
oh eight Crimes Act of all things. But you just
need to bring it up to date, like harmful digital
communications to be in there. Bring it up to date.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Who does it apply to in terms of professions and
you know chicks.
Speaker 19 (34:23):
Well, the exclusions it's easier to say who's excluded. If
you apply to the police, as it's per job, you
can't lie about your past. If you apply to corrections,
you can't lie about your past. If you're applying or
sies documents overseas governments, you can't lie about your past.
But generally anybody in the private sector, if you're going
(34:47):
into jobs in the private sector and you've had i'll
call them offenses, it's not serious crimes where you went
to jail. It's only offenses, maybe marijuana possession, maybe a
drunkenness episode. Youthful industrations, you can lie about those going
forward in your career. That's what it was meant to cover.
Youthful indiscretions in the private sector, including private education, including
(35:13):
all the health professions, care and assistance for aged persons.
You can lie about your background.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Good stuff. He'll appreciate the insights. So clearly one of
those laws that's been left idle, and they'll get around
to it eventually. You would think, you would hope. Twelve
minutes past seven, my hip niglen I was going to
say it's my favorite story of the week. It's not, actually,
but it's one of the more uplifting stories of the week.
This is the Port of Auckland thing. This is fast
track coming. So fast track is an idea, is a
(35:40):
good idea. There's a few people moaning about it, but
they're the usual people who moan anyway. Auckland Airport is
the first fast track project that's got consent. Good to
go rock and roll and extension of what they call
the Ferguson North Berth Cruised passenger Terminal. God, do we
need one of those access longest ships? Bigger ships get
more ships back in the country. Extension will need more
(36:01):
cranes accessing the full length of the birth. All of
this is good. So one hundred and forty nine projects
were included in the Fast Tracked Approvals Act, so they're
able to apply for consideration. Port of Auckland is the
first one with the go got the big tech. Now
here's the key to it. And this is why I
was uplifted by it. This was cleared in sixty six
working days. Sixty six working days, barely over two months.
(36:23):
How is it? And so you ask yourself, surely the
obvious question, how is it you can pass on a
project that big, that complex in sixty six days? And
if you can, how come we haven't been doing it
for years? Thirteen past the.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Mike Asking Breakfast Full Show podcast on iHeartRadio, Howard By
News talks.
Speaker 23 (36:43):
At be.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Mike, I thought you might like to ask the Air
Force guy at the Air Force guy why he thinks
the birds are singing long? It's very good. Why don't
we buy some Boeings except for the fact that the
doors fall off rather than the European earbus aeroplanes. We
don't hoe the Europeans any favors I'm assuming the answer
(37:09):
is price and availability. As far as I know, Boeing
and having tremendous trouble meeting the market at the moment,
and we'd be in a very long line. Sixteen minutes
past seven good news on housing, Very happy days for
the first time buyer at the moment. Got a twenty
seven percent market share. Now that is the highest in
twenty years. Long term average is twenty one to twenty
two percent. Kelvin Davidson is the chief property economist at
(37:30):
to Cotality and he's with it's Calvin Morning, Good morning.
So rates are down, We're in like robbers dogs. Is
that how that works?
Speaker 23 (37:38):
Well, I mean first time buyers certainly are. Yeah, but
I mean first time buyers have been a success story
of the market for a while there. Actually they're taking
advantage of blower rates, but tapping in the kiwisaver that's
been part of it, and also tapping into low deposit
learning allowances at the banks. There's definitely some things in
their favor at the mark.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Are the investors still on the sideline hence helping the
choice for the first homer.
Speaker 23 (38:00):
No, investors are definitely coming back. So they've had a
tough couple of years, but if you roll forward to
the most recent six to nine months, I'd say that
they're really getting back in and I mean tax rules
have shifted back in favor of property investment. But for me,
the big thing there is sortably lower mortgage rates. The
top ups, the cliched mom and dad investor with has
to put in have gone down a lot and there's
(38:21):
very visible real cash for them. So yeah, they're returning to.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
Good And this is all over the country, or cheaper
parts of the country, all where.
Speaker 20 (38:29):
Well, it's pretty broad based.
Speaker 23 (38:30):
So her first time buyer is a pretty strong reviewhare
and investors are suddenly coming back to right across the board, Auckland,
despite the fact that the Auckland house prices are high
and approach their rental yields are a bit lower than elsewhere.
Aukland's been a strong market for investors in the last
six to nine months too, So yeah, it's pretty much
across the board.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
What do you do see? Two more cuts are coming.
He didn't confirm them, but he hinted they maybe as
of this week. So if you've got two more sort
of are you sitting here you a bit sort of
maybe maybe I'll wait.
Speaker 23 (38:59):
Well, I mean, I think we'll see that pass through
to some more interest rate cuts. At the mortgage rate cuts,
I mean at the something the shorter end of the curve.
But I suppose the thing that people are just waiting
for at the moment is around the economy, around the
labor market, particularly sort of job uncertain dealing. It's probably
keeping some people on the sidelines. But roll Ford early pardon.
Next year, unemployment rate starts to come down, lagged defective
(39:22):
interest rates comes through. I think there's some reasons to
be more optimistic.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Fantastic, Calvin, Well, you have a good weekend. We love optimism.
I felt like Nichola Willis told me off this week.
Did you feel the same way when she talked about
patriotism and getting out there and talking about the economy
and the naysayers and stuff. I thought, I'm being told
off here. Calvin Davidson, chief property economist at Curtality. By
the way, B and Z tell us that the average
new borrower is two hundred and seventy dollars a month
(39:47):
better off. Average mortgage rate paid in June was five
to sixty six, down from six to thirty nine. Likely
the average is going to go down to about five
by the end of the year. So at a rate
of six' thretey, nine your average first timer mortgage of
five to seven five was paying three and a half
grand a month or eight twenty nine a week versus
thirty three hundred hour or seven hundred and sixty seven a.
(40:09):
Week so you are feeling. Better AND i note this

right To do The, week twenty three minutes away from
it speaking you back by popular, Demand All black's Time
Gaming up and two against The archies this. Weekend the
team's just been, Released Cody taylor said to our latest
one hundred test cap, recipient which is. Exciting And Scott
robinson is with us From. Argentina, scott good, Morning, yeah Bis,
(46:09):
mike you're having a good. Time.
Speaker 20 (46:15):
Yeah it's a big city's big, city sixteen million people
and there's a lot of. TRAFFIC i, think, well we've
got prex est courts to take us, everywhere because she
did a couple of hours and the bus either. Way
but it's. Good we settled and they loved you at
the other, here so it's been it's been a good.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
Start we talked To Will jordan last. Week he was
telling us it was it's he likes the. Format so
you go away for two and you get to settle
and are you are you you feeling that as?
Speaker 19 (46:41):
Well?
Speaker 20 (46:44):
Yeah. Yeah as soon as you start to get to,
this you know that the three, three three and a
half week. Markers you come in and we your travel
back and forth and the demands of test footing on the,
body and just to, mentally you know that the toll
of the week two weeks is just. Right didn't you
a chance to get home and put it on your
(47:04):
own pillow and then then start. Again so it's a great.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
Balance what did you work on this?
Speaker 20 (47:09):
Week what we went on this week? On, well we
felt like we trained in the history On tuesday and
the rains aboute hundred miles in two. Days in our
focus really was just making sure, finishing did their last
pass away out of their, hands keep trusting your skill,
Seat we're still creating a lot and we've got the
(47:29):
opportunity to, finish to put teams away in just pull
the stuff off the, field you, know the mental skills
side of the. Game make sure that we win all
different huddles and just the balance of the. Both and then,
yeah it's LIKE i, said when your way for a
couple of, weeks it's just going to make sure it's
not all.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
Rugby no exactly do? YOU i Asked will last. Week
also he'd eaten a lot of steak body had been
doing a lot of drinking of The. Melbeck is that?
True and what are you? Doing?
Speaker 20 (48:00):
Then Those, yeah look it's it's a hell of a
wine over. Here and they, look they each you, know
we sit down and want to get out within half an,
hour and they bring in about five courses in the
meat hasn't even, started so it's the big the big.
Boys patients are quite incredible because and you bring spins
with cheese on, it and then you've got like A
(48:21):
caesar sell like just bring the. Meat besides we're. Gondy,
YEAH i love.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
It how many players actually drink out out of your?
Squad how many players drink these days and versus who don't.
Drink it all.
Speaker 20 (48:40):
Massive generational change from the generation. Past like the, boys you,
know only after the last yesterday And i've got nothing
a week to. See you don't need a. Couple they'll
have a few. Beers but the boys have glass of
wine at. Dinner but the bing side of it's not.
There they realize what does att the toll it takes
(49:02):
from their, body and they picked their chances and. Opportunity
so you, know we have a lovely club. Run we're
all wear our own club duties on A tuesday night
way And smith started it years ago and we all come.
In we're representing our club and we have a couple
of beers. There there's more, zeros you, know alcoholic beers
than there is normal. Beers and you have your normal
(49:25):
find you have your or you, know if someone's wearing
the wrong gear during the, week they'll stand up and
direct for and that's a really, big cool moment that's
really social without the expectation of. Alcohol.
Speaker 2 (49:36):
Fantastic what do you make of The australians and what
they did and has that fundamentally changed the way you're
viewing this whole. Competition, yeah looks you've got some.
Speaker 20 (49:50):
Talent it's a nice sort of sort of turned that,
corner you, know the internal, narrative sort of an external
narrative changed a little. Bit it just shows tough test
footy years and the fine balance of a bouncing, ball a,
pass things can, Swing chess matches so quickly with cards
is you know yellow cards is one part of, that
(50:12):
but it just it just shows on the day you've
got to be added In australia show where been some
theatrics test. Footy it's it's been great to. Watch.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
Good are you expecting anything from The? ARGENTINIANS i MEAN
i still see them as that they can be. Good
sometimes they're not as. Good are they going to give
you something this week that you can't see? Coming or
is it going to be like last?
Speaker 20 (50:36):
WEEK i don't ever. RESPONSE i pretty. Hurt you, know
they had the biggest crowd they've ever had and a
chess football match In. Cordoba you, know they come from
all over the. Country it's just the said biggest sport In.
Argentina it's four hundred and fifty, clubs so there's it's
a big sport like football is the. Biggest clearly everyone
(50:59):
wears a messy, shirt but that you, know they're really
passionate in the. Communities they really loved the, road the
clubs and the means a lot to them and they
were you, know so there's been a response that let and.
Passion so so you, know when you've come to national,
capital you expect everything from, them but it could starts.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
Critical, WELL i saw the scan of two pilot who's.
Head that's that's quite.
Speaker 20 (51:23):
Something it's it's, incredible and he, played you, know he's
the means To at the, END i stood down the
ship to the. Top, look we'll miss, him but he's
got a treble money in our. Group he's a great.
Professional he's quiet, soldier but he goes by his work
and you know he'll get an up and he'll come
(51:47):
back as soon as he. Can he's just that. Guy so,
yeah we will miss him and it. Was it was
one of those injuries you, think oh That's brittal.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Exactly go, well, mate always good to talk with. You you
sound like you're having a good time and appreciate yours as.
Always it's Got, robertson who is The All blacks coach In.
Argentina we've got the call and obviously the victory and
long with The warriors for the. Weekend then that'll make
it a very nice time to reflect On. MONDAY i.
Reckon i'm looking forward to it. Already seventeen to.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
Eight The Mic Hosking Breakfast Full show podcast On iHeartRadio
powered By News.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Talks it'd be by the way fourteen minutes away from.
It we're trying to work out what the second ear
claimed it's the third most popular sport In, argentina so
obviously football is. Something then. Rugby we think it's. Polo
some suggestion from our researcher could be. TENNIS i don't
think it's. Tennis. Darts, No Giamo. Vilas Remember Giamo. Villas
he Was, argentinian wasn't. HE i watched him many years
(52:40):
ago at The Australian open At couyong. PROSECUTORS i should
mention this BEFORE i, forget BECAUSE i think it's. Significant
The german prosecutors have got A ukrainian the word emphasis
being on The ukrainian man who's being held currently In.
Italy they think he's the bloke who masterminded the non
stream explosions Nord stream one And nordstream two blew them.
Up russia denied. It if they've got him and he's,
(53:04):
guilty then It's. Ukrainian by the, WAY i only got
to it. Yesterday if you want to watch something over the.
Weekend ronnie O'Sullivan was at The Saudi Arabian snooker last
week AND i know it's last, week but only got
to it. Yesterday so that's their big money, thing and
you get a lot of extra dough and there's a
gold ball and all that other weird stuff they. Do but,
nevertheless he got two one forty sevens back to, back
(53:26):
AND i don't think that's ever happened in the history of.
Snooker one forty seven is a perfect, score and he
holds the record for the most number of one forty
sevens in his entire, career which is now it's, seventeen
so it just tells you to get one four. Seven
is even at a professional level as. Unusual it was
a seven year gap between his last one four seven
(53:48):
and this one four, Seven so even he the greatest
snooker player of all, time had been waiting seven years
and he got his one four seven and everyone went.
Nuts and then blow. Me if you didn't get to
another one full. Seven never. Happened and to watch, that
even though you knew it was going to, happen you,
KNOW i have sports exciting because you don't know what's
going to. HAPPEN i knew it was going to, happen
(54:09):
AND i watched it unfold and still as a. Tingle
that's the most incredible.
Speaker 5 (54:13):
Thing and that's why snooker is the second most popular
sport In.
Speaker 2 (54:16):
ARGENTINE i think it probably. Is it wouldn't surprise me at.
ALL i met the scan. Yesterday thanks for. Asking SO
i met the scan yesterday and So i'm lying down
on the.
Speaker 5 (54:25):
Table oh it was a lying down. Scan all that
sounds really.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
Serious, well you lie down and go into the donut
and SO i lie down and they, go we're going to.
PRACTICE i, went what we're going to? Practice and the
practice was breathe, in breathe, out breathe and hold your.
Breath and SO i did. THAT i went and they,
went that's. EXCELLENT i, said what do you mean that's?
(54:50):
Excellent the breathing. DIFFICULTY i, said, well what do you
mean that's? Excellent she, said quote, unquote you'd be surprised
at how many people get that. WRONG i, thought how's that?
Possible how do you get breath then breathe, out breathe
and hold your.
Speaker 5 (55:01):
Birth you get, nervous don't you?
Speaker 24 (55:03):
KNOW i.
Speaker 2 (55:04):
WAS i was not even remotely breathe and breathe, out
breathe and hold your. Breath how do you get that?
Wrong first person who texts me to, say, YEP i
got that, Wrong i'll give you fifty bucks BECAUSE i
refuse to believe anyone can get that wrong. Anyway and
how long did you hold it?
Speaker 11 (55:21):
For?
Speaker 2 (55:22):
Well not. LONG i was looking for. That that was
the interesting. Thing so the guy just highly competitive about.
Speaker 9 (55:27):
It, yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
Exactly the guy this week in the news and was He?
Croatian he Was. CROATIAN i think that's Why John key's
joining us From croatia this. MORNING i think he's somehow
tied up with this guy this week set the world
record for holding your, breath and it depressed me Because
i'm quite good at holding my, breath AND i thought
this will be. INTERESTING i, mean OBVIOUSLY i thought he
was going to beat. Me but he did it for
(55:48):
like twenty four or twenty five, minutes twenty nine, minutes
twenty nine. Minutes i'm. GOOD i reckon on a good
day for, three so somewhere between high twos and early,
three like two and a half to three good for
WHICH i thought was quite. Good but it's not because
twenty nine minutes is next, Letter isn't?
Speaker 9 (56:05):
It is it?
Speaker 5 (56:05):
Incredible and that's why holding your breath is the second
most popular sport In.
Speaker 2 (56:09):
ARGENTINE i knew it was something like. That ten minutes
away from it.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
The Mike Hosking breakfast With Bailey's Real Estate News, dogs the'd.
Speaker 2 (56:16):
Be sitting away from a right rabbit. Hole Mike parto
is the national sport Of argentina's second most popular. Sport,
well there are two different. Things is the national sport's
second most. Popular glenn's telling me it's. Not it's the national,
sport but it's not the second most popular. Sport he's
telling me the second most popular sports. Tennis Take glenn
ON i let's do it twelve rounds a. SmackDown the
(56:36):
push is on for wool and to get it back
to its glory. Days industry leave has got a bunch
of workshops coming up next week in an attempt to
drive up. Value you know HOW i feel about. Wool
strong wall now makes up just one to two percent
of gross farm income compared with nearly sixty five percent
in the. Eighties if you can believe, It Richard dawkin's
Fed Farmer's wool chairers well Us, richard morning to.
Speaker 24 (56:54):
You, yeah good, Morning.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
Mike the wool, story it's many and. VARIED i mean
strong is not, marino is?
Speaker 14 (57:01):
It?
Speaker 24 (57:03):
No, No so there's different different classes of. Wool marino
there's certainly worth a hell of a lot more than
what we call mid micron and strong. Wool but strong
wool was certainly the most common In New.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
Zealand so what are you trying to do with strong
and do you hold out?
Speaker 24 (57:18):
Hope, well, look there is. Hope so there's really good
collaboration going on between government and industry and various initiatives
just to drive a bit of value back into The
wall and also looking at that whole supply, chain the value,
chain trying to return value to the.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
Farmer what do you DO i mean, specifically what can you?
DO i, MEAN i think about we talked about things
Like bremworth and they said we're going to do wool,
carpet and you talk About Winston petersn't there's only wool
carpet And parliament stuff like. That so people are trying to.
Help is there a genuine future for strong wool and
carpet and stuff like.
Speaker 24 (57:51):
That, yeah so there's various. CHANNELS i, mean carpets are
one end, use but there's higher value end uses as,
well and so the likes Of Wall impact are looking
at those high value customers and building. Relationships, Internationally ron's
is looking at new, technologies and campaign For wall are
looking at. Promotion so there's a lot going on in
(58:13):
that space and we're just trying to have a few
workshops and explain that to.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
Growers does everybody know about the tennis balls at THE Us?
Speaker 24 (58:19):
Open we, Sorry, mike you just cut out.
Speaker 2 (58:24):
There the tennis balls at THE Us. Open do you
realize the tennis balls that THE Us open and made
from New. Zealand Strong.
Speaker 24 (58:29):
Wall, YEAH i saw and saw that that. Article and
actually a few years AGO i was told tennis was
becoming a compulsory sport in The chinese curriculum and we
were to expect this bump and Strong wall. Values but,
yeah fair to say that never came to fruition, Mine, no.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
Exactly, well good luck with the workshops and we'll follow
with a great deal of. Interest you, Know i'm a
fan of it. All Richard, dawkins who's The Federated Farmer's walls,
HERE i thought he hadn't heard about the tennis balls.
Speaker 9 (58:54):
Story.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
There for a, MOMENT i, thought how can you be
in Strong wall not known about the tennis ball? Story so, soccer, football,
tennis rugby parto national. SPORT i think we'll leave it.
THERE i don't want, to you, Know CAN i just
ask a question About Penny. Henry So penny goes out
(59:16):
to meeting after, meeting tells you he's flipping the gang
patch thing back and then the party, says, no it's
not because we're not going to do, that and yet
he keeps doing. It explain how that? Happens how does that?
Happen and it reminds me Of Willa Jeen prime who
doesn't answer a phone or, emails And Chris hopkins who
doesn't get up early in the morning For ryan's program
(59:37):
because it's before six o'clock And pennie's out there making
his own policies up and then he's told they're not the,
policies but he keeps on. Going, Anyway does that sound
dysfunctional to? You if that was a, business would you be,
going we need a, consultant or we need something, here
or we need to sack a few, people or it's
just the weirdest thing in the. WORLD i do want
to raise With katie And john at a moment about
(59:57):
social BECAUSE i was talking To glenn just a moment
ago about he got all this information off the. Internet
katie this week was arguing with CHAT, gpt and she
argues CHAT gbt is now arguing with us and telling
us it's right and we're. Wrong so is that trouble.
Speaker 1 (01:00:13):

we think is breaking. News we'll just confirm it looks
Like fonterra has reached agreement to sell their consumer and
associated businesses to Lack talis for three point eighty four
five Billion New zealand. Dollars now that's come to me
from a. Text i'm assuming it's a genuine. Once so
(01:00:57):
we'll just confirm that that's the, case because that's a
that's a big. Deal this Is maroon. FIVE i didn't
even know they. WERE i thought they came and went
this is the eighth studio. Album got a good vibe of,
That it. Doesn't it's got a good feel good time of. Life.
Fine do you See Robbie williams on the news last?
Night isn't he? FANTASTIC i Love Robbie. Williams he's doing
(01:01:17):
some small gig In london replaying all those old albums
and he was saying, that you, know it's like the
good old days at the moment With, oasis they're all
having a moment, anyway purveyors of sleek and dancy falsetto
steep soul, pop whatever that. Means Adam LEVINE i didn't
even Know Adam levine was part Of MAROON Pa.
Speaker 5 (01:01:32):
And do you know what when you put your credit?
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Card just, unbelievable isn't. It Little wayne's on THIS i
Like Lil. Wayne there's only twenty seven minutes and thirty six.
Seconds you think they could have done more after all these,
years twenty seven minutes was all they got out of ten.
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):

Speaker 9 (01:02:24):

Speaker 19 (01:02:30):

Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely without.
Speaker 25 (01:02:33):
Doubt but, yeah, no we're actually we're having a fabulous.
Time we're on a super, yacht WHICH i affectionately called
the Gin, palace AND i got in trouble last time
called the Gin. Palace but, look you drink a lot of.
Gin although at the moment they're all sitting out the
back drinking lemon. Cello i'm on the soda drinking lemon,
cello and it's very, palacious SO i can't see why
it's not a gin. Palace but, YEAH i find myself
(01:02:56):
In croatia having a, lovely lovely.
Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
Time how big is the? Yacht forty seven meters so.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
That it's a very nice. Point And, KATIE i asked
you the other, DAY i, said what sort of thought
and energy have you put Into Father's? Day and your
answer was literally.
Speaker 13 (01:05:37):
None, well it's not really the sort of question you're
supposed to ask as the recipient. Father you, know you're
not meant to be pre you, know you start pre
Loading Father's day about three weeks in, advance asking what
plans we're, making what's being done for, you and then
you start bringing up things like websites with things you
might be looking, at and it's just it's not really
how it's supposed to.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Work it's not a bad idea. Though the Reason, john
it's a good. Point the REASON i don't wear the

Speaker 13 (01:07:16):
THING i heard you raised it, earlier AND i, can't

i was arguing with CHET gpt.
Speaker 6 (01:07:21):
About BUT i know THAT i specifically asked.
Speaker 13 (01:07:23):
It something THAT i knew the answer, to and it
came back and basically said.
Speaker 6 (01:07:27):
No SO i went back and said, no that's.
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
Wrong and then but you knew it to be, wrong, RIGHT.
Speaker 6 (01:07:32):
I knew it to be. Wrong it argued back with,
me AND i, thought this is how it.
Speaker 13 (01:07:37):
Ends they're going to Become, no it alls wipe out
humanity by calling us.
Speaker 6 (01:07:41):
Stupid they've got no.
Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
EMPATHY i think we've become too reliant. Already we've gone
to a default position whereby that we ASKED, CHET gpt
or whatever bot it is what the answer, is and
we assume it's right even though it is or may not,
be and we wouldn't have a. Clue so we're in
trouble with, that aren't.
Speaker 6 (01:07:57):
We, well you, know the research says it's it's leading
to sort of brain.
Speaker 13 (01:08:01):
Rot AND i discussed this with my daughter the other
day and she agreed because, basically they contract out their
whole lives, now they get, advised they get everything on CHAT,
gpt so they're not using their brains to think cognitively
like you know we.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Did, NO i don't. KNOW i worry about. It by the, Way,
john the super yacht, thing do you reflect on seven five?
Seven you'll be aware that we've gone and, bought as of,
yesterday a couple of new long range planes and some new,
Choppers AND i mean you must have sat on that
seven five seven a number of times stranded around the
(01:08:34):
world and thought this is just.
Speaker 25 (01:08:35):
Embarrassing, yeah that plane was pretty old and, tired and
it broke down a couple of convenient places Like hawaii
once In, townsville.
Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
And that was sort of.
Speaker 25 (01:08:46):
Useful but outside of, that just run it's. TIME i, think, yeah, look,
realistically we probably need a different version to what we've even.
Bought we actually probably need something that's smaller and more
convenient for the muster of the day and for a
small bunch of media and some people that travel because
because the planes have brought us to a very big,
(01:09:06):
planes and then you'd have an alternative big. Plane BUT i, think,
yeah the politics of, it it's just so horrible that
you end up having to buy your a three twenties
or they're bought AND i kind of get, that but,
yeah unfortunately planes are not, cheap but they don't last
forever and you need to probably move them on they're.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
Done do we need super, Yachts, well if we didn't
increase the, nature we probably after the men of the
amount of.
Speaker 25 (01:09:32):
Unfortunately reduced The navy by twenty percent or whatever went
into the.
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
Reef it was, surveying which is unfortunate can happen.
Speaker 25 (01:09:39):
Though it can happen to personal it's not solely Limited
New zealand neighbor the costs.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
Of concordia that one that one has a problem.
Speaker 9 (01:09:46):
As, well so you can have.
Speaker 13 (01:09:47):
Issues are you are you ever coming back or because
you KNOW i, SPEAK i speak on behalf of a
lot of people that you are Mist are you ever coming?
Speaker 6 (01:09:54):
Back or is this you as this you now just
floating around the world on super.
Speaker 25 (01:09:57):
Yachts back to politics of back To New zealand, case no, no, no,
no no. No i'm back And i'm back in about
two weeks, actually so.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
That'll that'll be. Good that's been a it's been a great.
Trip but you, KNOW i still love coming.
Speaker 25 (01:10:12):
Backs and we spend you, know seven or eight months
of the year, there BUT i, KNOW i sort of
travel around and with brand AND i going to different,
things holidays and you, know too hot and so it's,
nice you, know and you can get The Mike hoskins
show in The.
Speaker 9 (01:10:26):

Speaker 2 (01:10:28):

Speaker 6 (01:10:35):

is a quintessential Ki we Helping kiwi. Story this will
bring a tear to your eye on the super. Yacht and,

Speaker 6 (01:11:05):
Past AND i saw this woman And i'm not even.
Speaker 13 (01:11:07):
Sure of the, story but it was about THE cbd dying,
probably and she was, struggling and she was carrying food
and saying it's really hard to get. Business AND i,
thought of, course that food looks.
Speaker 6 (01:11:14):
Good i'm going to ring and order some and support
them and go in and get a whole. Bunch SO
i looked at their menu AND i ordered.
Speaker 9 (01:11:19):

Speaker 13 (01:11:19):

had WHEN i was ill AND i was a young.
MAN i went home after we got married and. Stuffen
we went back to Christ it's my mother who was
notoriously a horrible cook and actually held on to things
for a bit too. LONG i went, AROUND i was
about twenty three or twenty, four AND i opened the
fridge AND i started buiting into some chicken she left
(01:12:14):
in the, fridge AND i, said oh, God, mom this

Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Be if you're that, poor.
Speaker 25 (01:12:20):

Rt and she, Goys i'm going to catch the. Train

text that came and was, This mike Having john keyon
reminds me that we're allowed to be. Successful it's a
nice way of putting, it isn't. It the segment With
John key is the, best is absolutely. Excellent he's such a.

A vibe about.
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
It he sounds like he's enjoying himself and that's, good
that's no bad. Thing Murray. Olds this gab fest over
the last couple of days In, australia what's come out of?
That the INDIE i is scandal that we've sort of
been telling you about throughout the. Week there's whole bunch
of stuff going over across The tasman And Murray olds
is the man to round it all up and they'll
do so after the, news which is next your News
(01:15:05):
Talk sead.
Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
The only report you need to start your day on
my Casting breakfast with A Vida, Retirement, Communities life Your, Way,
News Togs dead ben.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
Quick update From. Fontira we should be all gripped and
riveted to what they're doing these, days given the state
of our economy and therein put into. It but from
the Broader company's, standpoint As andrew mentioned earlier on in the,
program are they up their current season payout to something
like ten to Fifteen they've narrowed their window for their
forecast for the next. Season as far as The shehar's
(01:15:43):
earnings guidence sixty five to seventy five cents per year remains.
Unchanged twenty six year twenty six earnings guidance will be
announced as twenty five annual, results which is coming next.
Month but it's all, bullish, bullish. Bullish but the headline
this morning is they've flipped their consumer and you know
my views on. THAT i don't know that this is
the wisest. Thing they know more THAN i, do, Obviously
(01:16:05):
but when you've got something that works and it's worth,
valuable it's worth, something do it. Better and it's not
like they don't have the tellent to do it better, Anyway,
beers it may it's. Over they've sold their consumer. Stuff that's.
All you, know the names and the brands that you,
know they've gone for three point eight four or five billion.
Dollars as part of the, sale they'll continue to supply
milk and other products to the divested businesses that meeting
(01:16:27):
the farmer's milk will be found in dairy brands Including
anchor And mainland and, Stuff so they're supplying the product
to the company that runs the brands they used to.
OWN i just don't know that's selling valuable. Stuff it
was LIKE i was thinking About Sky, city who are
in a will of pain at the moment they're selling
their car. PARKS i, mean you've got in if you've
got car parks in Downtown, auckland that is money for.
(01:16:52):
Jam but, anyway they've done.
Speaker 5 (01:16:54):
It SO i started selling their jam as.
Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
Well they're probably selling their jam as. Well twenty two
minutes away from.
Speaker 18 (01:16:59):
Nine International correspondence With ends And Eye Insurance peace of
mind For New Zealand.
Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
Business, Well Mike, murrald how are you?
Speaker 20 (01:17:07):
Codding?
Speaker 9 (01:17:08):
Mike, yeah pretty, well thank. You That's friday, morning that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
ROUNDTABLE i saw a number in The Australian press this
morning that was suggesting some of the heavy hitters that
were in the room it was costing them about sixty
thousand dollars now to sit there and listen to, wait
did anything come out of?
Speaker 9 (01:17:20):
It? Well, look business, Group, LOOK i suppose they were
obliged to say. This business groups like The Business council Of,
australia The Australian Industry, group The chamber Of commerce And
Industry council Of Small. Business all of these organizations left
the three day talk fest saying, listen a very constructive
process for some priority areas that must be. Reformed you've
(01:17:42):
got to cut red tape green tape to free up
investment to you, know looking at trade with all the
uncertainties that are around trade and tariffs at the, moment
we've got to build houses more efficiently and more, quickly
and that will involve a better recognition of skills from other.
Jurisdictions migrants who come in. Here you've got brain surgeons
(01:18:02):
driving taxis and that's just bloody. Stupid so the whole
focus of this was how can we improve the economy
across the vast stretch of the economy to boost. Productivity
but the big elephant in the, Room, mit you AND
i have discussed this before is Tax it's so. Inefficient
they just belt wage and salary owners over here and
(01:18:26):
THE gst is like the sacred calf over in the,
corner can't be slaughtered at. All and the point made
time and time again over here and, again you AND
i have discussed. This albert The Prime, Minister Anthony, abernez
he has got maybe the best opportunity in a, generation
given the margin he's got In parliament to ram through
(01:18:47):
some really important tax. Reforms you, KNOW i guess THE
gst is the most obvious. Example it's a ten, percent
a lot of other places around the world fifteen. Percent
you can then offer trade offs to those who are
not so well. Off but What Jim, charms The, TREASURER
i said last night after the three day, Event we're
not going to have any lengthy public external tax. Review
(01:19:10):
the government instead's going to develop its own tax proposals
to guide future. Budgets in other, words we've got you,
know we're not going to do a damn, thing at
least until the next. Election Because Anthony albanezi is so risk.
Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
Averse, yeah it's, interesting isn't. It this kind Of Butler
i'd never heard of, him but THIS ndi. IS i
can't work out what it's similar. TO i, mean you'd
remember the old acc, thing so if you fall over
you get your medical stuff. Covered but in THE I
s seems to be. Different and the, speech but the
speech That butler gave is apparently if you could gets,
autism you get you get a check for ten twenty
(01:19:42):
thirty thousand dollars and you're in therapy like more than
once a. Week AND i, think how the hell did
this grow to be the shambles it?
Speaker 9 (01:19:50):
Is it is a. Shambles and here's the Stat where
AM i looking? Here where AM i looking?
Speaker 14 (01:19:55):
Here?
Speaker 9 (01:19:55):
NOW i can't, Buddy but, yeah HERE i. Can the
government warns that without reforming it's The National Disability Insurance.
Scheme it was set up to provide for the ongoing
care and comfort and welfare of people who suffer catastrophic.
Injuries it might be at, work you may be made
a parapletic at. Work whatever it, is a catastrophic, injury
(01:20:15):
The National Disability Insurance. Scheme but it has morphed thanks
to a lot of corrupt operators in the, system thanks
to a very generous system that perhaps it wasn't expected
to balloon the way it. Has and now you've got
stats like. This where AM i? Here i'm looking for
these stats THAT i want to give. You ten percent
of boys and girls In australia aged five and seven
(01:20:37):
are on the disability. Scheme they've all got. Autism sixteen
percent of all boys age six or one at two
for the same. Reason three quarters of a million people
are now getting financial support from THE. Ndi is one
hundred thousand of them on the scheme just last year.
Alone sixty nine percent are kids under. Fifteen it's the
according to the, government and they're not sort of saying
(01:20:58):
this out, loud but it's a diagnosis of conditions like
autism previously were treated BY gps with medication and a
range of other. Therapies now they're all on THE. Ndis
and here's the. Warning without, reform it's going to be
on track to cost one hundred and five billion dollars
a year and ten years. Time and that's more than
the increase we're going to have in defense aged.
Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
Care and the exact EXACTLY i was reading From butler's.
Speech so you hand out this money to the. Families
the kid on, average this is on, average a kid
fourteen year old with allegedly autism is doing seventy sessions
of therapy a. Week that's more than one a. WEEK i,
mean the kid's not got no time to play football
because with the psych.
Speaker 9 (01:21:42):
Well if you talk to primary school, teachers there wouldn't
be a class anywhere In New South wales without two
or three four children more in some cases that are
on the that are on the spectrum diagnosed officially diagnosed with,
autism and many many of them are on THE. Ndis
it is, unsustainable and he wants it's not as they're
going to be cut off and you're thrown a. Drift
there's going to be a two billion dollar scheme set
(01:22:03):
up to operate from the new financial year mid next.
Year The states and federal government will combine to provide
the money for, that but they will no longer be
there jumping on THE ndi.
Speaker 2 (01:22:15):
Is, hey do you still do some work for THE? Abc?
Speaker 9 (01:22:19):
Yeah still?
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Do, well how is it your TikTok channel is going
to go with the new social media? Policies what's happening?
Speaker 6 (01:22:25):
There?
Speaker 9 (01:22:26):
Well interesting because it's such a contested space over. HERE
i MEAN, ai, RIGHT ai and social media and all
the rest of these things were on the discussion paper
at the big three Day Economic, summit and THE abc
is in a pretty of a tough position because you,
know free, speech you're allowed to have, opinions but they
(01:22:48):
do want to put brackets around your social media. USE
i MEAN i use Face tube from time to, time
and that's about. It emails as. Well younger smarter people
than me are on there all the, time tiktoking, away
doing crazy dances and. Whatnot it doesn't impact me as
such Because i'm an older. PERSON a lot of young
people on the. Staff they do have active social media,
(01:23:10):
Accounts so what's going to happen? THERE i don't, know
but basically THE abc says if you want to use that,
stuff do so at your peril because you don't want
to put THE abc into any sort of public. Disrepute
if you, do you'll be.
Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
Punished, interesting what about that. McGuire is mcgui going to
end up in? Jail BECAUSE i know you've got sentence
to jail this week and then he got, Bail so
is he actually going to serve some time? Eventually?
Speaker 9 (01:23:32):
Possibly, this of course is the disgraced Former New South
WALES mp for the seat Of Wogga. Wogger he was
the boyfriend of one time premier Gladys Bury Jectlian and
yes he was accused of basically you, know hawking influence
and so. On he may go to, Jail, mike he's
out on bail pinning an appeal and well you know
(01:23:53):
obviously we obviously have to wait to see where that. Lands.
Speaker 2 (01:23:57):
Yeah interesting who you? Play you Play Us australia playing
anyone this weekend they're playing the Old Bus south Spring
box again.
Speaker 9 (01:24:04):
Spring box In Cape town AND i can't tell you
the spring and the step Of australian rugby fat twenty
two nil.
Speaker 2 (01:24:10):
Down, yeah and he's, GONE.
Speaker 9 (01:24:14):
I mean it doesn't get much. Tougher it's Like Auckland
Eden park and they come back and win thirty eight twenty.
Two no one saw that. COMING i Mean Joe. Schmidt
they now Saying joe walks off water and then use
everyand coaches over here in charge a minute ago saying
oh love Bloody. Kiwi he doesn't know how to Play australian.
Rugby David, Campeazy, Hello, david just open your mouth and change, Feet,
dave would you do that for? Us, so, yeah it's
(01:24:35):
In Cape town AND i suppose if they can back
it up and have another good, performance, win lose or,
draw another good performance will certainly you, know it'll certainly
raise the spirits of rugby fans because they've had not
very much to cheer about in recent.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
