The Mike Hosking Breakfast with Bailey's real Estate Finding the
buyers others can't use Tom s edb.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yeah, you're welcome. Today, Violent crime stats. We have news
and new news around the law change coming on retail
crime today. The idea of special economic zones now that
marked in the end the refinery turns out to be
an expensive no go? Are deszoned? As in the streamer
and whether they're going to up in the rugby market.
For Sky Politics Wednesday after raid, Richard Ardel and Steve
Price do nothing but enhanced matters as well. Hosky, Welcome
(00:33):
to the day, seven past six. What is it about
the Left day that they can't stand scrutiny? Tory Farnow,
if you've missed it, as pulled out of a regular
slot with our Wellington morning host on zb because it's
not the direction she wants to go this year? Just
what direction is that she wants to go? Well, don't
you hate it when they make that complete crap up?
Tory Farner is inexplicably running again for reelection this year.
(00:53):
I suppose it's possible history might repeat itself and a
crowded field splits the vote, so you in fact end
up need comparatively little support to win. Three of the
top four candidates last time got forty two thousand votes,
which are let us slip through with thirty four. Little
did they know, of course, what they were voting for.
Wellington has become the posted child these past three years
for dysfunction. The fact they got a commissioner to write
(01:15):
reports tells you all you need to know. A good
mayor should kill to be on the city's biggest radio
station to be able to keep punters up to speed
on developments and sprut the achievements of the council. In
a shrinking media, the chance at a mass audience is
not to be sneezed at. And yet the sadness of
all of this is what, in reality has happened, is
that your local politician, especially one that's not up to much,
can seek shelter and hide more easily from the scrutiny
(01:37):
because there's less of it. Local body politics isn't covered
the way it used to be, and what coverage there
is is too often done by a junior who doesn't
have the interest or the institutional knowledge to do the
proper probing. In a broader sense, it has also played
its role in having more and more of us become
complacent when it comes to participation in the democratic process
every three years. I pray there's a better turn out
(01:58):
this year, but I'm not holding my breath. The trick
for zib Wellington, of course, is to have the major
opponents given plenty of air time. So far, now works
out what an idiotic decision that as she's made. Failing
to want to be held to account, never knows your reputation.
Any good Tory won't be the first Lefty to learn that.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Lesson who news of the world in ninety seconds.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Well to prove the world has changed the bricks A
rumpling the defense spending.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
On top of the funding of two point five percent
that I've just announced. Going forward, we will recognize the
incredible contribution of our intelligence and security services. Taken together,
we will be spending two point six percent.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Well, everyone's reporting two point five. He's saying two point six,
So the weird numbers will come back to those in
the moment. Trump does not represent the America, of course.
Europ's come to know and rely.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
On the election of President Trump to a new context
through which.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
European security should be viewed.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
I mean, ever since the end of the Second World War,
European security has sheltered under the American umbrella.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Indeed, not to be done. Kimming now wanted to remind
everyone the Tories actually written the place until recently.
Speaker 6 (03:05):
I will always be proud of the support the last
Conservative government gave in the run up to Putin's invasion
and those first crucial weeks and months of the war.
We helped prevent kre falling and we supported Ukraine in
regaining territory initially lost to Russia.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
And just to remind the average brook life is a
bit average right now. They've also increased the power prices, I.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
Think, significant increases in the wholesale price of gas, and
that's been driven by a number of factors, but they
are international factors, and it is further evidence, to be
honest that we need to move away from that reliance
on international gas.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Turn your mike on your radiot. Good news though the
Pope is still with us.
Speaker 8 (03:43):
Today was the Pope sending a message that he's still
running things in the Catholic Church.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
He met with two officials.
Speaker 8 (03:50):
Signed off some decrees for future saints. He's also appointed
bishops today and sent a message for lent good.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
And then we're getting ready for next year all ready, Yes,
it's you. Is mid terms and who better to be
governor of a higher than good old doge King Vervek.
Speaker 9 (04:05):
Donald Trump was elected in a decisive mandate. He's reviving
our confidence in America. Now we need governors across the
country who rise to that same occasion.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
And finally, news from the Shunchin Chemical Group in China
and who told their employees last month that anyone who
was single had until September to get married or they
were fine, very doped. They needed to quote resolve their
personal marriage issues and respond to the national called Marion
have kids. If they didn't do that by the end
of Q one, they would have to write a letter
of reflection. If they didn't do that by the end
(04:36):
of Q two, they would be evaluated by the company.
If nothing changed by Q three, then it's a don't
come Monday. Turns out turning well, it's all illegal, even
in China, So they withdrawn and apologized. News of the
World in ninety Yes, some confusion over what Starmer was
saying two point six or two point five. It equates
to another twenty seven billion New Zealand dollars a year,
(04:56):
which is a lot. Bank of Korea, by the ways,
moved cut from three to two point seventy five, so
their cash rates the lowest since August of twenty twenty two.
And you're very kind. Inquiring about Andrew. Andrew from Sport
is fine. Eleven past six.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
The Mic Asking Breakfast Full Show podcast on iHeartRadio, Call
it by News Talk zebby.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Consumer confidence fallen again in America came in light so
it does growing concern about what Trump's doing to the economy.
Minds you. The cut from the Reserve Bank in Australia yesterday,
consumer confidence through the roof up four point seven percent yesterday,
and confidence among mortgage holders up ten point seven so
they're happy. Fourteen past six, Robalda am my Wealth. Andrew CALLA.
(05:47):
Have very good morning to you. You were the zante
there is oh good to hear now what happened yesterday
the z exec. How much red are we seeing?
Speaker 10 (05:58):
Yeah, let's just pick up on that local market because
yesterday morning we spoke about the Ryman Capital rays. You
know they're looking for that billion dollars to strengthen their
balance sheet. Well, Ryman was back trading yesterday after being
in a trading hot while they were doing the institutional placement.
Now I'm going to get a little bit technical here, Mike.
We've got what's called the theoretical X right price. In
other words, you work out where the price was, you
(06:21):
work out how much money they're raised, and you work
out where the price will settle afterwards. Now that was
three dollars nineteen and the share price has come back
trading and close estate three dollars an eight ceents, so
much weaker than expected. Weakness really leaking through to the
broader market as well, into sext fifty having an ugly day,
fell two hundred and twenty four points is one point
seven nine percent fall That follows the previous day slump
(06:43):
as well as the study. Y're not looking good for
the new film share market selling a little bit indiscriminate yesterday.
Vulcan Steel down seven percent, THHL down six and a half,
Oceania in the sector of the Rymon five point seven
percent so for the month. Now, my Intexts fifty down
five point three two percent and over six percent down
for twenty twenty five the earning season so far, confirming
(07:05):
that twenty twenty four was a tough time to do business,
even though it should get better in twenty twenty twenty five. Mic,
what's really the hot topic now is the speed of recovery.
Howth clipping will.
Speaker 11 (07:17):
We bounce back?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Okay, And then we come to THL. I was looking
for the good news we seem to for them did okay,
but some of the stuff in Australia didn't.
Speaker 10 (07:26):
Yeah, so it was always going to be a tough result.
Underlying net profit architects down thirty three percent. Look that
as a continue to recovering, this national tourism rental fleet
has grown eleven percent. Remember it's not just in New
zeal Now, it's sort of global rental revenue growth eight percent.
But Miket's the problem. They've got mikets. It's challenging to
sell their x rentals. So THHD does need to recycle assets,
(07:48):
so you buy them you're renting out and sell them
you buy new ones. So they've got a decrease in
their sale of goods revenue, which is the sale of
the rentals and at low margin, so that the uncertainty
word is in there is pretty much the data you
go to the scriptore at the moment they're highlighting market
factors as being an issue, so prolonged down if you
get a prolonged down to an RB sales, that could
(08:08):
delay their recovery and ill provide goudplay from the terriff mike.
We always wonder how it's no impacting your companies and
the analyst call.
Speaker 12 (08:15):
Years to know.
Speaker 10 (08:16):
We saw an example of how you know they can
get caught up and cross border potentially get caught up
and cross border manufacturing implications of terist So the RV
teams from like Canada.
Speaker 13 (08:27):
They're made in the US.
Speaker 11 (08:28):
They manufactured in the US. That's impacticed though terriff on
incoming steel malliu minion. So it costs them one to
make them.
Speaker 10 (08:35):
They make them and then they send them to Canada,
and now Canada is going to terrif them going into
Canada's mate.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Can I just can I just sorry? Can I just
interrupt you? Can you adjust your phone or get your
mouth closed to the mouthpiece or something.
Speaker 11 (08:48):
I'll try that.
Speaker 10 (08:50):
Text failings like text.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Failings, No, that's no good count count here. You put
your back on hold and we'll come back to you
in a second or two. If it's that's not a
touch screen, what is? There's something wrong with New Zealand.
The number, the amount of stuff that doesn't work in
this country now is ridiculed. The reason he's not as
regular lines. That line's gone down and that's broken, and
the phone doesn't work either. Anyway, a couple of quick results.
By the way, property for industry, and the reason I
(09:12):
tell you that the largest listed landlord specializing in industrial
property their profits up thirty six percent. So will take
that two point one billion dollars worth of real estate
they owned more than ninety property has got one hundred
and fifty tennuts they've enlisted since nineteen ninety four. That's
encouraging and something slightly eclectic. The the split ends painting
that we told you about the other day by Raymond
(09:34):
Turner that went for last night at Webb's. The auction
house estimated fifteen to twelve to twenty thousand dollars went
for ninety eight. So there's money. And anyway, how we going.
You're there.
Speaker 10 (09:47):
I'm here, Mike, I've always been here.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
God for that. Now, sorry, where were you.
Speaker 10 (09:53):
We were talking about? We were just talking about the
fact that this terriff issue of Tom bringing tariffs and
it hits companies like HL because they're going to get stuck.
It's a cross border tariff wall between the US and
Canada because it basically list costs everywhere. So these tariffs
are creating uncertainty and they're going to hit in the
most unlikely of places.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Okay, then we come to the US. Mike and I
talked about the confidence a couple of moments ago. Where
are we at with that?
Speaker 13 (10:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (10:20):
Look, mate, this at the start of the year is
not following the script that Trump would have liked. So
US share market so far in twenty two and five,
MIC it has underperformed. It's underperformed Europe. It's underformed the
global index quite markedly. And this has stuck contrast to the
last year when it was the rock star because Europe's
been boosted by consumer names. It's now getting boosted by
big moves in the European defense companies. Last week you
(10:42):
had somebody like Walmart Mike coming out with a week
look at week ro out for the US economy forecast
lower than expected profit. It sort of seems as a
barometive consumer spending, consumer sentiment. There's a growing concern now
they can't maintain the robust growth MAG seven, the big
tech names, Mike, they're lagging the broad market. In fact,
an index of MAGS seven now down ten percent from
(11:03):
the peak. That's the correction. The thing is like all
the Trump trades that are all starting to wane, they're
all starting to phasee. Bitcoin, Bitcoin's falling, Tesla falling a
lot overnight, and then last week economic data, consumer confidence falling.
Those flash pmis barely above the contraction level. You get
this disinflationary trend that's stalling, inflation expectations going up. So
(11:25):
lower growth, higher inflation is all looking a little bit challenging.
If the shear mark in the economy, of the barometer
by which Trump will be measured, he's got some problems, right.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
He doesn't do What are the numbers?
Speaker 10 (11:37):
So the Dow Jones is down thirty three points forty three,
four hundred and twenty four, that's just about point one
out of percent, the S and P five hundred down points
seven percent, five nine four to oh. But the prod
now is that down one and a half percent, nineteen
thousand and ninety one hundred gain ten percent overnight, oh
sorry point one percent overnight, the Nicke down one point
(11:58):
three nine percent, shang I comps it down point eight percent,
the eight and A six two hundred down point six
eight percent. Ended AX fifty, as I said, fell one
point seven nine per dollar point five seven one four
against the US point nine oh twenty five ozzie point
five four four to euro point four five one seven
pounds eighty five point one seven Japanese yend gold trading
(12:19):
at two thousand, eight hundred and ninety seven dollars in
Brent crude. The one, the one little, the one little
jem the day here we go down to seventy three bucks.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Take it well, don't go well? Andrew callaher jmiwealth dot
co dot m Z pasking and off for the farmers.
I've got some very good news in just a couple
of moments, PGG rights and came to the party. More
shortly six twenty one, The News talks.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
The Vice Asking Breakfast Full Show podcast on iHeartRadio, Power
by News talks A B.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, PGG rights, as I was very bad, but what's
going to say this government help? This government is the economy,
and everyone seems to think that in the latter part
of this year. Things are coming right. But you're seeing
the green shoe. It's already and represented by PGG writs.
Since yesterday profit of sixteen million, up from twelve points seven,
revenue of five seventy up from five to sixty one,
and it's the commentary that counts. Economic conditions are showing
(13:10):
early signs of improvement. Good the milk payout. We all
know about the beef export returns. I'm assuming we all
know about the Americans can't get enough burger patties. Generally
solid commodity prices are their Retail of Water Division's revenue
rising more than two percent. Farmers up there spending on
the seed, the stock, food, the fertilized, the water, the fencing.
We all know that what happens when the farmer spends
go through the towns goes right around. The economy. Wall
(13:33):
prices have hit a seven year high. The outlook was
promising but cautious. Now you can't argue with all of that.
So when they do well on the land, we generally
all do well, Thank the good Lord. Six twenty five.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Trending Now quit Chemist Warehouse The Real House of Vitamins.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Now new series announced overnight from Netflix Adolescents. It's a
four part mini series about a thirteen year old accused
of murdering his classmates. There's a production twist each of
the episode. It was filmed as one big, continuous shot
without stopping.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
He's a good kid, Jamie.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
I'm going to start off with asking you.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Do you know a girl called Katie Leonard? Yeah, describe
each other as friends?
Speaker 11 (14:14):
Then is she at?
Speaker 12 (14:17):
Then?
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Why would you ask her?
Speaker 11 (14:21):
Not getting it?
Speaker 3 (14:25):
That's you're not really doing what they're doing.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
It's a call to action about a manashe eighty percent
of women are attracted to twenty percent of men.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
You must trick them because you'll never get them in
a number way. We've done not wrong, are we It's crazy? Well, yeah,
bringing tells you to do when you're a kid.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Comedy.
Speaker 14 (14:51):
Yeah, it seems like a laugh a minute.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Stephen Graham stars as the father of the boy accused.
I looked him up. He's one of those people who
got ure him. Netflix match Through teen watched episode two
of White Lotus last night. If I wasn't a Died
in the woolf fan, I'd be seriously questioning whether I'd
be back for episode three. It is so slow. A
lot of chat about the music and how the music's
(15:13):
gone off. I'm not a big fan of the Bold
couldn't care les about music. The Cara has just I
don't know, you know, when you get to the end
of a programme. I don't have a lot of time
in life at the best of times. But Katie and
I have committed a couple of things to each other.
One we go for a walk, so we did a
lovely walk yesterday, did some macro, did some talking about
life and times. Then we sat down for a little
bit of White Lotus. It's the only television we watch.
And at the end of it, I thought, really, was
(15:35):
that an hour fifty four minutes? Could we have spent
fifty four minutes doing something else that was more fun?
I mean, I know the answers, yes, obviously, but what
Port of Auckland some good numbers yesterday and the north
Port Consortium that's worth talking about as well. So we'll
do all of that after the break, after the news,
(15:55):
which is next good news talk said.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
The news and the news makers, the mic Hosking Breakfast
with a Vita, Retirement, Communities, Life Your Way, News, Togstead be.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Like one hundred percent agree. Really, the white Lighters thought
you might have mentioned it yesterday. Way too slow the season.
They'd better hurry up or they'll lose us too. I mean,
I'll be back. I'm moaning. I'm doing that thing that
so many people do these days. I sit here and go, ah,
it's not ready to go. It's not like it yesterday.
But I'll be back. I'm a sucker like everybody else. Might.
Just receive notification from Mercury Energy a price increases daily
fixed rates gone from ninety cents to a buck fifty,
(16:29):
an increase of two hundred nineteen dollars a year. Believe me,
we've got more on this after seven o'clock that there
is more where that came from twenty three minutes away
from seven. Richard Arnold stateside, this whole musk e mail
things falling apart in front of their eyes. So an
update on that for you shortly meantime. Back here, solid
report from Port of Auckland. We've got rec will container
(16:50):
volume stronger than expected early cruise season, which has led
to an underlying net profit after tax to forty two
million dollars with a divid into the local Council of
twenty five million dollars. The CEO is Roger Gray, who's back. Well,
that's Roga. Very good morning to you.
Speaker 12 (17:02):
Good morning, Mike.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
How much of this is specifically you and what you've
done and how you've done it versus the rising tide
of the economy Generally, I think.
Speaker 12 (17:10):
It's a combination of both. There's been some one off
heavy bulk volume supporting Genesis, our partner, as they were
rebuilding the coal stop while but we're seeing also improved
operational performance at the port and that's giving customers a
choice to use us where we weren't doing that a
couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
How do you do when you steer out your window
and you see all the coal arriving in the country.
Do you go that's good for business or do you
go we're not going to meet our Paris climate target?
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Or it is what it is, Mike.
Speaker 12 (17:39):
I see it as a partnership with Genesis, and really
if they need they need the support to keep the
Huntly going, then we'll provide.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
It for as simple as that long term your twenty
four to thirty four picture consent for bigger ships and stuff,
is that going to happen or hopefully it will happen.
Speaker 12 (17:56):
Well, we're in the fast track. We're one of four
active Apple locations that are currently in and I'm very
confident that we'll get approval. We've already consulted with over
one hundred and forty community groups and we feel this
genuine support for the port doing this work.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Are you getting much pushback?
Speaker 12 (18:15):
No, No, we're actually getting a lot of support because
if you remember, it's part of it is that we'll
sell back to the city Captain Cook and Marsden once
the warves are built, so it's a win win for
both the city and also for us.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
We also got an increase in full year expectations. Are
you bullish about New Zealand for this year or is
that saying too much?
Speaker 13 (18:37):
No.
Speaker 12 (18:38):
I think we're certainly seeing growth in a number of
areas as a containers are particularly up eight percent. We
think that growth will continue. We have seen a very
soft car market, which I'm sure you're aware of. Up
to thirty percent of cars are down, but I think
that's going to come back over the next six months.
So we're feeling very confident in our profit upgrade and
we know we can deliver that seventy five eighty million for.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
The city and you paid down a lot of debt.
What's that allowing you to do?
Speaker 12 (19:05):
Allows I have money the debt head, do the investment
in the walls, the big ship capability, the conversion of
the straddles to fall high, all of the capital work
we need to do. We've got the ability to do
that within our own borrowing capabilities.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Okay, and I'm reading about Northport. This will presumably in
some way, shape or form effect you. Is this problematic
for you or not?
Speaker 5 (19:27):
Really?
Speaker 15 (19:28):
No where.
Speaker 12 (19:29):
We're quite relaxed about it. And you're probably aware that
we've agreed to sell our twenty percent of MMH if
the deal goes ahead.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Right And if the deal goes ahead, is that better
for New Zealand in general?
Speaker 12 (19:41):
I think it. Continuing to rationalize and get the port
sorted out is a really important next step, and certainly
Port of tot ogn has moved to take MMH private
is part of that strategy.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
Good stuff. Nice to talk to you as always, Roger
Grave port of All from CEO, ninety minutes away from seven.
You're not sure what I'm talking about Northport, So Port
of Towering and Northern Regional Council and to Patoni who
at the local MARI they're looking to buy out minority
stakeholders or shareholders and Marsden Maritime holdings, then they would delist.
So the downside of that is that we lose another
company off the Innz externly small company, but we nevertheless
(20:15):
lose a company. Marsden Maritime the Port of two each
owned fifty percent of Northport. The latter would sell at
stake to the privatized Marsden, thus bringing ownership of Northport
under one structure five sixty mars and Maritime share. That's
a seventy three percent premium. The Regional Council lines forty
three percent port of Tower on the fifty percent to
only seven percent. That would end involvement of the ports
(20:36):
of Auckland. So that's what they're thinking at the moment.
Let's go to the state shortly and Richard nineteen two.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
The Mike Hosking Breakfast Full Show podcast on iHeartRadio power
it by News Talks.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
B Morning might received a nine hundred dollars bill from
Mercury to at home, no heat is no pool queried.
It still made as pay turns out the meat readers
aren't turning up and they guess the usage. Not only
are their prices on the increase, but service very bad.
To be fair and not to defair Mercury any other
power company, that's quite common. Most of them are guestimates.
And the thing about it is that it all washes
through at some point when they do turn up and
(21:09):
read the meter. If they've been over guessing, you'll end
up getting a very small bill of not no bill
at all. I've been through that many many times, Mike.
If the number of one responsibility of a government is
to protect their citizens, then how come the Australian New
Zealand governments didn't know the Chinese warships were in the
Tasman Sea off Sydney until the Jetstar pilot told them.
I was watching Anthony alden Easy in a press conference yesterday.
He was asked the same question. To be fair to
(21:31):
us and them. It all got put out by the
Chinese at the same time. None of this excuses the
way the Chinese behaved, but they put it out on
an emergency radio channel. It went to the military, went
to the government, went to the airlines, all at the
same time. I think the report has just got a
little bit ahead of itself that Jetstar are owned at
Everyone got it at exactly the same moment.
Speaker 16 (21:52):
Six forty five international correspondence with ends and eye insurance,
peace of mind for New Zealand business.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
So tard, good morning, hey Mike. So where are we
at with this email? People getting sacked here or not?
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Chaos would be the word.
Speaker 17 (22:06):
Twenty one federal government tech staffers have just resigned, saying
they are unwilling to help Elon Musk in his government chains,
all the slashing efforts whatever. These are engineers, data scientists,
project managers, many of whom held top posts at Google
and Amazon previously, but went into government when the US
was having problems with the rollout of health reforms a
few years back. Now they say they will not use
(22:27):
their expertise to dismantle critical public services. So this is
a rebellion from within. According to the staffers who were
hitting for the door, a lot of Musk supporters who
often wouldn't even give their names, so we're just sort
of wandering around anonymously with white House visitor badgers and
then would challenge government workers, many of whom had been
on a job for fifteen years on war and had
extensive backgrounds about their politics. Many of the questioners have
(22:50):
described as quote young and guided by their fandom of
Elon Musk. The staffers who were quitting had been working
for the government's digital services. They were brought into Elon
Musk's DOGE team, but say they just didn't want to
be any part of them. They write, quote, we will
not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government
systems end quote. Federal workers in many departments are totally confused,
(23:14):
as though what they had to do today is the
deadline is about to run out. Musks sent out a
second email saying he will give employees a second chance
to justify their jobs with you know the five bullet
points and emails intended.
Speaker 18 (23:27):
For well who knows newly are intended for.
Speaker 17 (23:29):
Failure to respond a second time, says Musk, will result
in termination. Some of the most high profile US government
departments are bucking the Musk moves. These are departments now
under Trump leads right, including Justice Department, FBI, State Department, Pentagon,
Department of Energy. They're telling their staff not to respond
to Musk's demands, but federal workers are being left in
(23:50):
limbo and say little workers are being done, and government
departments a bedlam. Trump was asked about all this mayhem
and calls Elon ingenious, asking the.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Question tell us what you did this week? What he's
doing is saying are you actually working?
Speaker 19 (24:04):
And then if you don't answer, like you're sort of
semi fired or you're fired.
Speaker 17 (24:09):
You might be semi fired semi fired. That wouldn't even
make a good reality TV Preppers. What it might you
your Yeah, clear as mud.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
You got a little insight for the life of ROBERTA. Flack.
Speaker 17 (24:22):
Yeah, I have an original copy of ROBERTA. Flack's very
first album, recorded when she was a completely unknown and
before her legendary.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
Hitsch first.
Speaker 20 (24:35):
Ever.
Speaker 17 (24:38):
Yeah, she had such a beautiful voice and innovate style
as everyone can hear. That's why her song takes have
become the classics that they have become.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
With this thing.
Speaker 14 (24:52):
Singing my life with this.
Speaker 17 (24:55):
That's not the reason I have this original record album.
It was given to my late wife and me by
the person who discovered ROBERTA.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Flack.
Speaker 17 (25:03):
She had trained as a classical penis and she was
playing at a teeny tiny venue when my friend Less
mccannn heard her. Less was a master of jazz fusion
back in the day, and he told his music industry
friends that they need to sign a contract with his
young unknown No way, they said, so Les said.
Speaker 21 (25:20):
Got my tape recorder on my Max and set it
up and recorded it myself, and then we took tape.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
They said, oh, is this what you were talking about?
Would changed our minds.
Speaker 17 (25:31):
So they produced that first album called First Tape ROBERTA. Flack,
as presented by Les McCann, both of whom have passed
on now. But that's the story and for the seven
time Grammy winner, the rest is history.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Nisen, So well done, See you in a couple of days.
Richard Allen steates, So, by the way, speaking of musk interesting,
what's happening to his car company? I raised it yesterday.
No one recalls more cows than Tesla. But Tesla sales
in Europe last month we're down forty five percent. The
EV market was up thirty seven, So the market's gone
(26:03):
up thirty seven. Tesla is tanked by forty five percent
in all of Europe. Half a billion people eleven Europe.
Last month they sold nine nine hundred and forty five Teslass.
Something's not right eleven away from seven, the.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Mike Hosking Breakfast with a Vita Retirement Communities news togs
had been.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Mike, it's the under guessing and the big zinger. Yeah much,
your smart meters sort all that out, don't They are
quite liking the white loaders, Mike slow boone. But you know,
some major shit's about to go down. Lots of dodgy
characters this time. I thought, all the dodgy characters every time.
Isn't that the whole point? But by the way, Shane Jones,
who I'm generally a fan of, one of the big
wastes of time that got acquiesced to in the Coalition
(26:43):
deal was that they were going to wander off to
Marsden and this is this look goes back to the
Prime Minister and you know about yesterday, but he goes
back to the Prime Minister who was on Kerry Show
last week. And I was driving home and I heard
him say, and that's why we're looking at rebuilding Marsden
Point and getting us a refiner. And I thought, is
that a thought bubble? You mate? Literally making this up
(27:03):
on the spot. Because, of course, obviously as part of
the coalition deal, New Zealand first were allowed to wander
off to Marsden Point to have a look at the
implications of reopening Marsden as a refinery. It was never
going to happen. It was going to be fascical, if
not fencible, if not both. And so the report came
out yesterday. It's about seven billion dollars. So guess what
we're not doing it. I could have written that report.
(27:25):
Whether I'd come up with seven six' five, eighteen it doesn't.
Matter it was always going to be worth more than
we've actually, got so it was so it was a. Folly,
now my suggestion would be that when he said that
To kerry last, week he knew that. Report therefore he
knew the. Number therefore he knew what was going to.
Happen WHEN i had him on the program yesterday after
(27:46):
we got through The bailey business where, then if you,
REMEMBER i asked him About marsden and whether that was
a thought bubble or, not he went red in the.
FACE i don't know if you can see it on the,
video but go look at the video and he went
red in the, face AND i, thought you know, SOMETHING
i didn't have time to pursue. It even. Further BUT
i thought something's up here. Anyway so sure, enough Yesterday
shane releases the document that says it's seven billion. Dollars
(28:08):
it ain't. Happening so we're going to have these weird economic.
Zones and the problem with weird economic zones is you
Go northen's. Special it's. Different so you can have this
rule and that law there and you can do some special.
Business now what happens, Next, OH i don't. Know how
About nelson, goes, well we're we do a lot of,
seafood why can't we be a special economic? Zone and
(28:28):
Then canterbury will, go, well hold, on what about the
dairy industry in this part of why are we especially economic?
Zone before you know, it the whole country is an economic.
Zone so what the hell's going? On five minutes away
from seven the in and the.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Ouse it's the fears with business favor take your business
productivity to the next, level and then you.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Get to This trump tariff. Nonsense so everyone's trying to
work out what the tariff means to, them whether you
pass it, on whether it's. Inflationary, well this, morning the
trade group representing the restaurant, industry which is quite large
industry In, america given the size of. Them they've got a.
Number they've employed independent analysts and they found that the
tariffs could hit restaurant owners across the country to the
tune of twelve billion. Dollars so it's the old. Argument
(29:12):
they would have no choice but to increase the prices
once the supplies when you buy your tomatoes from the
tomato grow, Goes oh my tomatoes is more, expensive so
then you pass that cost on to know how it.
Goes so on average they only have a three to
five percent profit. Margin and on top of, that the
analysts say the number of customers would drop off considerably
because of course suddenly you can't afford your tomatoes. Anymore
(29:34):
so that's how that. Goes they had a number for
cars the other. Day they reckon about six and a
half thousand dollars on a. CAR i Think ford said
that that your car becomes more expensive to the pune
of about six and a half thousand dollars because of
the aluminium and. Steel, anyway let them deal with it another.
Day so, crime violent crime is. Down this is. GOOD
i also raised with The Prome minister yesterday at the
(29:54):
very start of the interview before it went. Weird The,
chambers The Police. Commissi he looked, really really bullish at
a press conference a couple of days. Ago he looks
like he's reveling in the freedom that the police are
allowed to actually go out and round up a few.
Crooks it turns out today the announcement's, coming we're going
to be able to do that. Too we're going to
be able to do some citizens. Arrests so when we
(30:16):
see some, people you, know you're down at the mall
on A, saturday you're going to the shop and you,
go hold, On i'm going to arrest. Him, now how
do you think that's going to? Work and can you
still arrest people in a special economic zone or do
those rules not? Apply see the questions i'm raising. Here
so The Justice Minister Paul goldsmith on the program after The,
news and then we'll get the take Of Stuart nash
after seven thirty this, morning before we Get mark And
(30:38):
jinny on the program after eight With Politics. Wednesday you'd
be an idiot to turn off the. Radio now the
news is.
Speaker 12 (30:44):
Next.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
The only report you need to start your.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Day The Mi Costing breakfast with The Range Rover villa
designed to intrigue and use.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Togs dead by.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Seven past seven third appears to be. Working when you
cracked on, crime you get. Results for the first time
since twenty, eighteen violent crime has. Dropped Police starter shows
a two percent drop last. Year, also there were twenty
four thousand fewer people in need of help in the
Latest crime And victims. Survey Justice Minister Paul goldsmith with
us good, Morning good. MORNING i was watching the press
conference with you and The Prime minister Of Mark mitchell
and The Police commissioner the other. Day The Police commissioner
(31:18):
seems to be reveling in these new rules you've given,
them and the stats on violent crime seem to show
that it's working.
Speaker 18 (31:27):
Well, yes it's all about giving the police extra tools
to deal with. Gangs if you're our standing point is
if you want to reduce the number of victims of
serious vinl, crime obvious place to start as the ones
who are causing most of the mating small group Of
New zealanders and the gangs are creating a significant proportion
of the serious violent. Crime and so we've bring them
the extra tools that they need to make life very
(31:49):
difficult for.
Speaker 10 (31:49):
Them and it's working.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Well, Yeah he.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Also seemed to suggest that he wanted more, rules more.
Freedom is he getting them or going to get?
Speaker 18 (31:58):
Them, well, LOOK i mean we're always we've got a
lot of leagiers to the work that we're working our
way through around the sentencing phrase of regime so that you,
know we've got real consequences for. Crime the three strikes
laws a part of. That and, yes we're always looking
at different ways in which we can help with the
with the effort to connect people with. Responsibility, ultimately what
(32:21):
people want to see is they might be safe in
their communities and they want to see people help to
account when they're breaking the.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Law and of course the other thing that came out
of that press conference the other day is he was
Suggesting chambers was suggesting that people and the feedback he's,
getting are you getting it as? Well people feel, safer.
Speaker 18 (32:38):
Yes BUT i, mean obviously we were all conscious that
there's a long way to. Go things got badly out of.
Control but you, KNOW i MEAN i was down In
napier a couple of weeks ago when people were, saying you,
know it was actually quite striking and not seeing the
gang patches.
Speaker 21 (32:52):
Everywhere you go down to the local.
Speaker 18 (32:54):
Barbecue in the, past the place would be overrun with gang,
patches everybody would. Leave that wasn't happening the, summer and
so we want to keep that. Going it's been a
great effort so, far but there's a lot more to.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Do and then on retail, CRIME i note some criticism
this morning From Ginny anderson on this group that you
set up a while, ago And Sunny kocher's earning a
lot of money and there's not a single. Recommendation does
that change? Today?
Speaker 18 (33:15):
Yes, yes they're working very hard that, group and they're
giving us some recommendations in that retail crime, space which
will be announced lad. DAY i see The herald's got
a bit of a sniff of, that and it's fundamentally
around looking at those issues of how do particularly retailers
deal with people just walking out with stuff and not.
(33:36):
Paying AND i think everybody's been conscious that is happening
more and, more and we've got to have a bitter
response at the.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Moment so IF i see somebody walking out with, something
CAN i arrest them now or WILL i be able
to arrest?
Speaker 13 (33:47):
Them, well we'll give you the details coming.
Speaker 18 (33:49):
Up but, LOOK i mean that there's an obvious tension
between we don't want to create the Wild west and
vigil atheism and. Chaos but at the other end of the,
spectrum the situation that you've got now people walking out
for supermarkets trolleys surrounded by staff talking at them all
the way to the, car getting in the car and
driving off and nothing. Happening it just doesn't work because
(34:10):
people are getting the idea that you don't actually have
to pay for, stuff and the reality is that everybody
else has to pay for your stolen. Stuff and it's
undermining our sense of the rule of. Law so we've
got to come up with a better, solution and we're
going to come up with some proposals.
Speaker 11 (34:22):
Today.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Fantastic the security guards need the. Power are they going
to get the?
Speaker 18 (34:26):
Power, well that's what we'll be announcing mad. Today but,
yes we're going to make it clearer and a bit
easier for people to look after their property and to
restore a law and order to our communities in our retail.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Sector appreciate time justice mians The Paul Goldsmith mike the
reduction of violent crime sounds like runs on the board
for the. GOVERNMENT i tend to agree with. That eleven
past Seven Johnny koscher at nine hundred and ten dollars a.
DAY i don't begrudge them that those are the, rules
the rules of the. Rules but WHAT i do side
With ginny on to a degree is that committee didn't
need to be set up because all the recommendations are
going to put forward that will be announced. Today they
(35:01):
had right from the. Start it's the obvious stuff that
a government should be. Doing it a stroke of a pen,
anyway more With ginny And mark after. Right of, course
now the report on Getting Marsden point back up and
running as a refiner returned out to be the waste of.
Time you thought it would give them the bills billions
and we don't have. It but the idea now being
float is special economic, zones essentially an area with its
own business and trade. Laws Channel infrastructure Cy Rob buchanan's
(35:23):
with us on, This, rob wanting.
Speaker 11 (35:24):
To, you good, Body.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Mike we could have told, everybody couldn't we that recharging
the refinery was going to cost a small. Fortune we
weren't going to do. It was this a complete waste of.
Speaker 20 (35:33):
Time, look we've been saying some time that obviously with
the refinery having been switched off in twenty twenty two
and fully decommissioned at the start of last year that
it would cost billions of dollars to restart. It so,
yes this report that's come out today is just a
reflection of what we've been, saying.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
And what's a special zone and how would it? Work
and once you get, one why CAN'T i have?
Speaker 11 (35:57):
One, well, look.
Speaker 20 (35:59):
Let's separate two issues. Here so last year we released
the market our plans for a energy precinct At Marsden,
point which is a repurposing of a lot of the
infrastructure that we have there that has. Capacity there's a
significant number of projects that we're working on for that
energy precinct and some work we've done BY PwC would
(36:20):
suggest that that could GENERATE gdp of around three point
three billion are fully realized with around twenty thousand jobs
over a fifteen year construction. Phase so really exciting project for.
Us and, look, one we're really pleased with the announcements
made yesterday that the government's seen as well and is
looking to get behind. US i think from our, perspective
(36:41):
one of the benefits of effectively the government's endorsement of
what we're doing is we're working with some fairly large international.
Partners one of our, projects which is a biofuels refinery,
project we're working With Fontas, renova Who's japanese renewable energy,
Company Kent International infrastructure services, company and they like to
(37:04):
know that they're working with parties or companies that have
the backing of the government in what they're. Doing SO
i think that endorsement's helpful for.
Speaker 11 (37:13):
Us.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Good if you built, it will they come because that's
resource rich what you're talking, about isn't.
Speaker 20 (37:17):
It, Yeah, well, LOOK i think these projects take quite
a long time to bring to, gestation but to show
you that we're people of. Action last year we announced
sixty million dollars worth of new growth projects and what
was quite obviously a difficult economic. Environment so one of
(37:38):
those we're cracking on with at the. Moment we're Building
New zealand's largest what will Be New zealand's largest debt
tank and partnership with their, energy and we are partnering
With higgins to build a bitul an import terminal facility
At Marsden, point which, obviously given all the roading that's
projected to go At, northland is. Fantastic so these are
things we're just getting on.
Speaker 6 (37:58):
With.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Now you're liking The northport. Thing if it comes to,
pass does that affect you majorly or?
Speaker 16 (38:02):
Not?
Speaker 12 (38:02):
Really not.
Speaker 20 (38:04):
Really there are neighbors over the. Fence they're very good
neighbors of, ours and obviously what's good.
Speaker 12 (38:10):
For them is good for.
Speaker 11 (38:11):
Us good.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Stuff rob appreciate it very. Much probably don't hold parties
and keep you up at night as. Well so it's
good to have good, neighbors isn't, It Rob, bucannon who's
out of a channel infrastructure in the northern part of the,
Country sky might have trouble now that The zone is
sniffing the. Rugby more on this in a moment fourteen past.

Speaker 11 (39:20):
Interested in the, screen so they Bought FOX i think In,
australia and if they did take an interest in his ZeLing,
rugby they pick up past the country or a third,
quickly so you would think they'd be.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
You, well, yes BUT i can afford to a lot of,
people CAN'T.
Speaker 11 (39:58):
I think the? Product, YEAH i think a lot of
you would, initially but they'd have to get it. Right
and it's the whole package around, it like the players
have to be interesting stars not, robots you, know and
and there's a lot more to. It BUT i think
it's a genuine.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Thing would it Sink? Sky?
Speaker 11 (40:24):
Mmmuh sky is listed on the In New 's So,
exchange so it's good For New zealand in terms of
employment and Tax The sky get. It so there's nothing Against,
Sky but hell, YES i think it. Would it would
massively Damage sky if that.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Happened, exactly were a good? Catch it. Wasn't Isn't joe? Lovely,
god he's. LOVELY i was watching him at the airport
yesterday and it's just he's such a nice, guy isn't.
Speaker 11 (40:51):
HE i, agree there's a difference between big humble and
pretending to be, humble and he generally treats and equally
and his Lovely.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Yeah, exactly all, right good to talk to, you, Mate appreciate.
It David Tagan's Duco events. FOUNDER i don't know how

their Sky sports subscriptions every summer and then only get
it back on. It that's the same same, thing isn't?
Speaker 14 (41:27):
It and are you going to do? That then they'll
just go and do.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
THAT i guess it. Is, mike with your, size the
only person you're arresting is a five year. Old i'm
bigger than you look THEN i look seven and stronger,

again with T. Y they announced yesterday to cut. Production
oh the irony in a country that's supposed to be
focused on, growth, growth, growth and mercury is the bearer
of the glad tidings that the power price is heading
north by an average of ten. Percent why because we
(43:00):
don't make enough. Power we are hopelessly reliant on. Rain
we stop looking for royal and. Gas we didn't get
enough windmills and solar panels, up so we're short, short
last year short the year. Before spot price currently about
two hundred, bucks not the eight hundred it was for
a time last, year but well north of what it should.
Be yet again the years started, dry but in a
reassuring sign of expertise and meteorological, minutia the power company
(43:22):
said there's still plenty of time for it to. Rain
so that's. Okay, then isn't it a cost plus? Accounting
obviously not confined to. Councils power companies do it as.
Well we think about. It we are paying for the,
windmills whether we want them or. Not see a lot
of the renewable investment is not about it solving the,
problem because it doesn't, automatically not in a, sensible cost effective.
Way what a lot of it is about is wokeness
(43:43):
being seen to be part of The paris, crowd the
same way the BN z likes to haunt petrol. Stations
power companies like to gouge us for their green. Credentials like.
Banks there's an argument we're not well served by these
big gen retailers or gen, tailors, who in simple, terms
are not doing their. Job what is their? Job, MIKE
i hear you, ask, well? Power is there enough?
Speaker 11 (44:03):
Power? Mike?
Speaker 2 (44:04):
No was there last?
Speaker 13 (44:06):
Year?
Speaker 2 (44:07):
No is it good? Enough and twenty twenty five in
the country economically on its, knees looking for, growth, growth, Growth,
no asking Like New zealand cricket giving rights to Spark
New Zealand rugby going for the money will damage The
sport's very good. Point, actually the cricket, EXPERIMENT i think
we can all agree was a complete and app absolute wasted,
(44:27):
time wasn't? It AND tv And zid's got it, back
and Then sky got it and Then Sky mike give
it TO tv And. Z's it's also the other thing you,
remember it's all too confusing for. People part of marketing
and branding is knowing where stuff. Is you know WHERE
i am every, morning, RIGHT i turn up every, day
and you know WHERE i. Am IF i suddenly popped
up somewhere else, tomorrow you, go what happened, To, mike
you'd be confused and you've got churn on audience, there
(44:48):
and you don't want, That. Mike some of the last
government should be charged with treason on what they did
with the refinery water. Waste, Paul yes and, no this
is not leveled criticism at the previous. Government where the
previous government went wrong as they were So marsden was
a private. Company they made as a private company that.
Decision they're allowed to make that. Decision what the government
should have done if they had a brain or understood
(45:09):
anything outside where the nearest library at the university was
or where the nearest union office, was in other, words
that they lived in the real, world they would have, gone,
well hold on, here what are the. Implications what the
petrol company said to them at the time, was don't
worry about. It just being an importer of stuff is
really cool for supply refining our own. Stuff you don't
need to be doing any of that stuff because we
(45:30):
can just bring it all. In and of course what
we've seen brought in is of course tainted jet fuel
several times, over and the fact that we are reliant
on the supply chains and ships coming to the. Country
but don't worry about any of you that just lets
fill the pipes with. Concrete so in that, sense the
government you can blame because they weren't up to. Much
but then that's not the first time we've said. That
(45:50):
mike specially economic zones for building not general, business Like
india did with the refinery at the bottom of their,
country Or Sri lanka did with the back to back
to backport and, airport And china building zen for. Tech
very good insight appreciate that. Right citizens. Arrest we are
going to go out and do one of those. Today
Once Paul goldsmith makes his, announcement we'll talk To Stuart
nash on this.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Shortly New zealand's voice of reason Is mike The mic
asking breakfast With bailey's real estate finding the buyers others
can't use TOGS, dB.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
Mike, Winston peters And. Beijing whatever anyone might say about
him or against, him he's doing a brilliant job as
a foreign. Minister, Matt i'm assuming that's the. CASE i,
mean just because you turn up places doesn't mean you're
a brilliant foreign. Minister but he's certainly moving about the
place a great deal more than he than his, Predecessor
Mirk Mitchell Ginny. Andsen by the, Way Politics wednesday after
eight twenty three minutes away from eight, now the rules
(46:47):
around making a citizen arrest look said to be loosen
the retail crime. Deal we talked To Paul goldsmith about
his officially being announced later on. Today as it, stands security,
guard shop, workers the, public et. Cetera can only make
a citizens arrest in two instances and a. Bit you
didn't know this is the stupidest rules going and item
has been stolen that's worth more than a thousand, dollars
or an incidence has taken place overnight between the hours
(47:08):
of nine pm and six. Am, anyway the form Of
Police Minister Stuart nash is with us on this very
good morning to you.
Speaker 13 (47:16):
Very.
Speaker 2 (47:16):
Well, indeed the broad, IDEA i, mean first of all
those numbers that we got this, morning the two percent
decrease in violent, crime would you, concede despite your political,
background that some of what this government is doing actually
might be.
Speaker 13 (47:26):
Working it could be. Society keeping in, Mind, MIKE i
was a police minister's increased police numbers by eighteen. Hundreds
got to throw that in.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
There, yeah good, Only but the numbers are coming, down
numbers or, not the stats are the, stats and a
violent crimes coming, down that's a, win isn't.
Speaker 13 (47:41):
It it's fantastic with iblant crime coming. Down but what
we're talking about was the citizen's arrest is retail crimes
going up by about twelve, percent and you've got these
keyweks who are working really bloody hard to make ends,
meet often not making that much money because qu'es are
spending a whole lot of money online and team and
then these miscrints coming in and stealing from, them and
they'd have the ability to do. Anything that's.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
Crazy do you think did you ever look at, it
by the way citizens arrest as police?
Speaker 13 (48:06):
MINISTER i don't think we, did AND i was resting
my brain to think why we wouldn't. Have you've got
a situation right where if you steal, stuff which is you,
know obviously you sing something ever us to, does it's pretty.
Serious could just shop of, them then the cost of
prosecuting someone is substantial competed to the crime it's been.
Committed but what you've ended up with is in a
(48:27):
really terrible situation where these guys just get away with.
It so what we were seriously looking at is some
form of fine or something along those, lines which was
proportionate with a citizens. Arrest though, yeah you, Know i'm a,
fan there's no doubt about, that but it's got to be,
proportionate you. Know we don't want to get to a
stage we have big tup guys like yourself are using
(48:47):
this to beat the crap cut.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
Someone that's exactly. Right last VIDEO i watched was a,
guy there were two of, them but he was. Massive
he was a HUGE i mean he would have been
one hundred and twenty kg's and he had under one
army had a slab of beer and under the other
he had literally a side of whatever pork. Beef and
he walked out of the shop past the security. Guard
would a security guard if they had the right take
(49:11):
a guy that size.
Speaker 13 (49:12):
On probably not unless he had some form of martial arts.
Train so that this is the. Thing so people have
got to put their own safety serious AND i don't
think there'll be an employer who would disagree with. That
so you, know there might be an instant with security
guard challenges this. Guy but if in the end he feels,
that you, know it's going to be a hell of
en list of his life of, limb then, Know but
(49:32):
what you do do is you make sure that you
got the the cameras to place and you call the.
Cops the other situation we find themselves in the course
is that you, know if someone's shoplifting or you, know
we've all seen And i've seen, this someone's pushing a
trolley and boad groceries out of the, Supermarket well what
do you? Do you don't dial one one, One you
can't deal triple five because the you, know and the
(49:55):
police are often too, busy you, know going after the
really bad, guys and so people get a way scott.
Free being able to make systems a resc in this
case and hold the person to the police and, UP
i think is just a pragmatic.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
Move i'm very supportivele, Okay so so put your hat
back on if you were still, minister because the obvious
question is are what level of force do you sit on?
Them do three people sit on them when the guy,
goes oh my arm is, breaking do you still hold him?
Down and then are there repercussions down the track for
people getting a bit carried?
Speaker 13 (50:23):
Away, well let's flip that. Around what you can't have
is a situation where well at the, moment where people
can't protect themselves right or they can't stop some of
them stealing the. Property it has got to be. Proportionate
and because it is a change to The Crimes, act
it's going to go Through Select committee and the sort
of in the full parliamentary, process so no doubt they
will come up with some with some measure.
Speaker 12 (50:46):
There but it is a good.
Speaker 13 (50:48):
POINT i, suspect you know again you're not going to
be able to pull out a baseball back for guy
because he stole a segrets or. Something but what you've
got to be able to do or got to be
allowed to do is used for poor force depending on the.
Circumstance so you, know at the moment dairy owners And
Senny kushis talks about this until blue of, faith they
can't do anything for fear of being. Prosecuted if they
(51:10):
do bring it a baseball batt, o'clock someone when they're
protecting themselves will get. Stock you've got to give these
guys cover to use proportionate force given the. Circumstance so
you know you wouldn't do that if someone's will trying
to load out the crocers out of the supermake but
you might be coming with a capital of knives and
that we've gotten for you will have gone to the
smoke's cabinet behind the. Counter SO i think it'll be
(51:33):
proportionate to the circumstances of. Play, selman good to have
you on the.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Program Stuart, nash former police. Minister he mentions t eighteen
minutes away from eight tasking economic data this morning From
New zealand posts e commerce data we're shopping a little
bit more, online but we're shopping disproportionately at the t
MoU and shines or. Machines five percent increase in spending
(51:56):
IN q, four but a twenty three percent increase in offshore.
Retailers so once again we're getting down to the business
of domestic retailers missing, out and they're, saying, well you
should look. Domestically i'm a big fan of domestic spending
as opposed to international spending in. General AND i know
what you're going to, say but it's much cheaper. ONLINE
i know what's On Timuin shine Or, sheen and it's.
(52:17):
Crap it's straight up and, down badly, made throw it
in the burd after a short period of. Time. Crap
but we seem to be in this. Mentality average, spend
by the, way ninety five, dollars which is down four.
Dollars but we seem to be in this mindset that
cheap as everything doesn't matter how long it, lasts doesn't
matter whether it was made by a slave or a
(52:38):
twelve year old or a three year old In. China
as long as it's, cheap it's good enough for. Us
And i'm not sure that's a great. Attitude seventeen to.
Speaker 1 (52:44):
Two The Mike Asking Breakfast Full show podcast On iHeartRadio
powered by The news talks At.
Speaker 2 (52:51):
Me Victoria mike as An Australian Crimes, Act section four
fifty eight allows anyone to arrest anyone they find committing any. Offense,
WELL i ask IF i, Remember i'll Ask Theeve price about,
that because he's on the program later on this. MORNING i,
know what a great deal of. Interest there's a small
quandary in my life at the, moment not a huge,
quandary just a small. One but the last stretch of
(53:12):
metal road in the state highway network is currently being tar.
Sealed it's twelve kilometers of tar. Seal this is forty
Three State highway forty Three East. Taranaki this is The
Forgotten World. Highway it connects Tam renui To, stratford and
the very last piece of the highway network is being tar,
sealed WHICH i suppose is good because you, know most
(53:32):
people don't LIKE tarsi BUT i live on a road
which is not tar. Sealed and THEN i leave my
little road AND i go on to another road which
is not tar sealed, either but it's about to be
and there. Is apparently we've only been there six, years
but before that there's been a thing for, many many
years in which submissions have been made to the council
(53:53):
that this particular road should be tar sealed because it's.
Ridiculous there are far too many cars on the road
these days and you can't have. It AND i find
myself in a weird. Way SO i should be celebrating.
PROGRESS i should be, going, oh thank, goodness The shingle's
going and the Tars seel's. Coming and Yet i'm sad
because there's something about a shingle road that it indicates
you are in the, country isn't. There so we turn
(54:15):
off the main highway onto The shingle road and you, think,
Yep i've. ARRIVED i am. Arriving and THEN i go
down That shingle road for a couple of ka's and
THEN i turn off into our lit the, road which
is also. SHINGLE i got my drive which is equally,
Shingle and THEN i had the problem is if they
shingle the road that goes to my, place if they
tarsal rather the road that goes to my, place DO
i then tar seal my? Driveway because of, course one
(54:37):
of the downsides of shingle, is of course your car gets,
filthy and who wants a filthy Ca and next thing you,
know you're buying a foam cannon to clean your car a.
Lot so DO i then seal my. Driveway but in
sealing my, DRIVEWAY i essentially am part of the city
And i'm no longer part of the, country because part
of the country is the dust that rises on a,
(54:59):
long hot sum as you power down the shingle road
and see the dust blooming up in the background behind
your car and dropping down all over, it making it
a dusty country. Vehicle and there's something reassuring and Very
New zealand about a dusty country, vehicle don't.
Speaker 22 (55:13):
You that sounds about like governments subsidizing mills to stay.
Open you want the shingle roads to. Stay you can
stay and work as a car. Washer is that what's
going on?
Speaker 2 (55:24):
Here, no you missed the point completely. THERE i was
just down Memory, lane and my memory lane isn't tar.
Sealed Eleven away from eight.
Speaker 1 (55:33):
The Mike Hosking breakfast with The Range Rover Villa news
Togs head been away.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
From Robotic plus is a kiwik company DEVELOPING ai powered autonomous.
Vehicles it's being brought out By Yamaha. Motors no, less
these are orchard specific machines that peck and spray and
prune and stuff. Anywhere Robotic plus founder AND Ceo Steve
saunders is with A Steve, Morning, Morning, mike are you very?
Well thank? You was this the dream to start something
small and have somebody big come along and watch you
(56:00):
a nice?
Speaker 23 (56:00):
Check it's more purpose, Driven, mike about you, know solving
solving you, know a global issue and you, know we
really wanted to show that we could develop tech In
New zealand that was got globally relevant and scalable and
so you, know it is it. Is it's part of
a vision and it grows on to be a bigger.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
Vision what happens to you? Now do you stay with
that broader company or help them out or go onto
something completely?
Speaker 13 (56:28):
Different, No i'm staying on for a.
Speaker 23 (56:31):
WHILE i, mean you, know yesterday was was was the
announcement of that acquisition Of Robotics, plus but it was
also the announcement Of Yamaha, agriculture and it's sort of
like we're you, know the excitement now is you, know
how do we take robotics pluses at the heart of
m agriculture strategy and now it's on to grow even
(56:52):
larger ag tech company Via Yamaha. Agriculture so some exciting
times ahead for.
Speaker 2 (56:57):
Us where does THE ai differentiate from the, Robotics Because
i've seen robotics when you're going up and down a
row or, whatever you can be. Robotic what does THE
ai do to enhance that?
Speaker 23 (57:07):
Process it's really it's it's really how it sensors where
it is in the. Environment so you, know you can
do robotics by training training the machine to drive up
and down the. Road this this machine drives, intelligently so
it recognizes its environment and can you, know work its
(57:29):
way through through all sorts of various. Situations and it
also through the sensors we're collecting. Data we're doing a
whole lot of a lot of other. Things so real
time sensing.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
That log scrapy you've, got which is a similar Tech i'm,
assuming but a completely different looking. Machine is it? Broader
you can take the basics of what this thing does
and turn it into any sort of machine or.
Speaker 21 (57:52):
Not, YEAH i think you know what.
Speaker 23 (57:56):
We've really developed as robotics plus is just a lot
of really smart technology, around you, know machine learning and
vision systems and so you, know it's just how you
can figure it for different. Situations so in the case
of the log, scale we can you, know we, scale
we scale trucks full of logs or trains full of.
(58:17):
Logs is that they drive. In we scan, Everything we
download all the geosmetric measurements and upload it into the
into the into the data.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
System how many people are because i've seen your machine,
BEFORE i don't know that it is your. Machine whether
there are there other players in this market doing this
sort of thing or.
Speaker 21 (58:34):
Not, yeah there's there's there's always players in the. Market
there's there's a number of different players with different. Approaches
SO i guess you, know our approach has been around
developing a hybrid. Technology so you, know we don't think
battery technology is quite there for long operational, house so
we just use a diesel engine to generate. Power the
(58:57):
rest of the machine is total. Electric so untankeed diesel
can operate on an orchard for twenty four hours where
you see seventy percent less. Fuel so you, know we're
really heading towards, that you, know full sustainability and. Decarbonization
but the battery tech's got a little way to go
to be able to operate a machine of that, size
(59:18):
driving and implement for long.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
Hours, yeah interesting. Times go well with, That. Steve Congratulations Steve.
SAUNDERS i mean you've gotta start. Small next, Thing yamaha
Has knocking at The door robotics PLUS. Ceo look it.
Up look at Their website's quite interesting what they. Do
AND i think this is the future of that sort of.
Tech and you see it in buses and things where
THE a TO b something that can GO a TO,
B b TO A a TO. B that's where your
(59:40):
driver is. Tech, yeah all of that sort of. THING
i think that's the. Future getting it on the city
roads and STUFF i think is going nowhere. Fast, Mike
i'm surprised you want to live anwhere in the. Dust,
well that's a beauty of my. Life Sometimes i'm in the,
town Sometimes i'm in the, country and that's what life's
all about. About, Contrast, mike you need a decent card,
detalier card. Detailer i've got. One it's me dust in
new water. Tanks, NO i. WON'T i get dust and
(01:00:03):
the water tanks don't don't start right.
Speaker 14 (01:00:06):
Is that a euphemism for something you?
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Look, well it wasn't till, well it wasn't till you said, It. Glenn,
no you're grubby. Little you're grubby, Little. Glenn, now, Politics, Mike,
Mitchell Ginny anderson will have to talk about the business
of the violent, crime and we'll talk about the new
police commissioner and how excited he seems to be around
the new. Law so we'll get into that With mark
And jenny after the, news which is. Next you had,
(01:00:31):
News tom.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
Said.
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
Mike has, game, insightful engaging and, Vital The Mic, Hosking
breakfast with A, Vida, Retirement, Communities Life Your, Way, News,
Togs Dead Brown, Breaking.
Speaker 14 (01:00:50):
Mike crown.
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
Crawling, me, yes taking that's.
Speaker 14 (01:00:57):
That's Exactly you've exactly figured out What i'd.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
Me sixteen and a half. Years, okay what we got
here Is Heather berry Maybe tony Maybe i'm assuming they're,
Related Kurt love And Jonathan, dillon and they got. Together
they are individual. Musicians they used to be part of
The Junior sisk band for several years and they, said
(01:01:22):
the suspectancy going, Nowhere let's form The Red Camel, collective
and so they did so they are now The Red Camel.
Collective and then they went to put out their album
and they, said what what should The Red Camel collective
call their first? Album and so they decided to call
it The Red Camel collective, first keeping it. Simple you
(01:01:44):
don't want to get to complicated ten. Tracks there's not
even much of, this which is probably a blessing thirty
four minutes for country, music but pretty hard on with.
This it's eight minutes past. Eight time for. Politics windy
And Ginny anderson's with us along With Mark. MITCHELL a
very good morning to both of. You, jenny did you
(01:02:06):
know you would know because of both of your. Jobs
but this this thousand dollars, Thing, mark when you go
make a citizen's arrest, or it's got to be after
nine o'clock or before six o'clock in the. Morning who invented?
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
That is that part of The is that part Of paul's?
Speaker 5 (01:02:20):
Announcement, no that's the law, Now, Mark, well to be
honest with, You i'm going to wait Until paul makes
his announcement this st after do. It i'm quite excited
about some of the things that we're doing around retail.
Crime but that law that you just to be honest with,
You i'd have to go away.
Speaker 12 (01:02:36):
And have a look at.
Speaker 2 (01:02:36):
It, SEE i don't think anyone knows That lord what you, Did.
Jenny clearly have you done a few, arrests a few
citizens arresting you in your, Life, Jinny i'd back you
on a after a hard day to select committee and
you want to run through the hut wall and you're
going that bastard's got a, Television i'm taking them.
Speaker 24 (01:02:52):
Out, WELL i Think i'm a similar height to, You,
mark so much chances of actually successfully doing something would be.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
Low go for the, ankles ankle, tap a little ankle.
Tap so without getting ahead of, It, mark BECAUSE i
know you're under instruction not to talk about. It but
what stops the sisters and arrest and the law and
rules and regulations around it getting out of? Control, WELL i.
Speaker 5 (01:03:18):
Mean you do have to have some pretty strict rules
and guidelines around. It AND i don't want to get
ahead Of paul's announcement this. Afternoon that will be much
clearer when he makes his. Announcement BUT i do know
one thing that we have to do something about making
sure that, retailers their, employers and their customers are safe
and although we're seen that we are seeing a really
(01:03:39):
positive reduction and violent retail, crime we know that we
still have a lot more to. Do we know that
we want to get on top of the nonviolent retail
crime as, well because have you seen that continues although
it's slowing, down that continues to tick. Up we want
to get on top of. That but you, know, Overall
i'm very very pleased to the direction that we're hitting
as a. Country we knew that we are in big
(01:04:00):
trouble under the previous. GOVERNMENT i want to acknowledge the.
Police they are doing an outstanding. Job and by the,
WAY i just want to acknowledge our corrections officers, too
because we have it had an uptick in people coming
into our prisons and they are doing an outstanding. Job
they don't get recognized much because they're behind the, wire
but there's tens of thousands of positive actions that happen
every day in our correction.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
System as long as the writing, Instructions ginny are fair
or reasonable in terms of what a security guard and
the supermarket can do by way of citizens, Arrest are
you broadly in favor of.
Speaker 24 (01:04:30):
It, WELL i understand it's, people so it's not just security.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Guards that would be someone but that's going to be
the outworking of, it isn't. IT i, Mean i'm not
going to arrest. Anybody it'll be a security. Guard and
supermarket are More yeah.
Speaker 24 (01:04:42):
You might, not but what are. They one of the
concerns of those big retailers who want people to buy
things in the shop is that they will see incidents
in the. Store so if someone does attempt to steal,
something you have another another store. Member you're tackling them
or trying to restrain them or hold them, down and
that's where things can get.
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
DANGEROUS i reckon the first video you see of somebody
being sat on At Harvey, norman people are going are
going to, go good job and about a freaking. Time well, that,
yeah it.
Speaker 24 (01:05:13):
Is, Good but there are lots of instances and we've
seen those In New zealand where people have been injured
or lost their life because there's a weapon. Involved and
so that's the. Concern And i'm actually really Surprised marxi
years because you ask any police officer whether it's a
good idea for people to take law into their own,
hands and they will always say that it ends in,
disaster and so it's a strong message police have always
(01:05:35):
given that it's not safe for our communities for people
to do.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
This would you.
Speaker 24 (01:05:43):
Think it will be very interesting to see how this
actually pans out in reality and have some big risks
on the side of the.
Speaker 5 (01:05:51):
Government, well they haven't supported anything we've done in terms
of public safety since we come into government and we
see no, you, no no.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
You labor hasn't supported.
Speaker 24 (01:06:01):
ANYTHING i think the police will support that smart against and.
Speaker 5 (01:06:05):
By the, way and by the, Way, Mike i'm, sorry
but call me old fashioned shopkeepers that are having people
go and and try to put hammers through the, heads
AND i was at the bedside of one just. Recently
have to make sure the law actually protects him and
put some some protection around the.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
POLICE i think you're missing THE i think you're on
the right side of his. Crew having said, THAT i
think you're on the right side of, It. Mark BUT
i do Take tony's. Point the first one that goes
wrong and the chances are as something will because a
few of these are on meth heads and they got
nothing to, lose and it's going to get. Ugly, really
the politics of, that you're going to be peddling fairly,
(01:06:42):
Hard i'd, Suggest, well.
Speaker 5 (01:06:43):
WELL i can tell you now that already shopkeepers that
have stepped. Forward and that example THAT i was using
was the son step forward to defend his his father
who was on the ground and having a hammer put
through his. Head And i'm, sorry but the police can't
be everywhere all the, time and we want to be
very clear and make sure that those people and customers
are protected and have the right to be able to
(01:07:04):
actually defend their property and themselves without criminalizing. Themselves AND
i think that that is just a, practical common sense
thing to do and to return some power back to
the people that have been.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Victimized, now, right let's talk To let's talk About Andrew
bailey in a, Moment Mark, Mintell Junny, anderson Thirteen past.
Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
The Mike Asking Breakfast Full show podcast On, iHeartRadio Pard
By News Talks It Be New.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Talks Have me sixteen past Eight Politics, Wednesday Jinny, Anderson Mark,
mitchell quick comment before we get To. Bailey, jinny just in,
general we Had Erica stamford, yesterday those numbers on teachers
that they cocked up yet. Again we had The rose
report last. Week in, general from your experience is the
public service holding a government of the day back through
an aptitude.
Speaker 6 (01:07:48):
From.
Speaker 24 (01:07:48):
Experience.
Speaker 11 (01:07:48):
No.
Speaker 24 (01:07:49):
No in, general the EXPERIENCE i had with those people
have reported to me and given me advice have been
incredibly effective and have helped resolve some quite big problems
that would have cost a lot more if you have
gone to a private Contractor.
Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Do you have to micromanage them at? Times i've never had.
Speaker 24 (01:08:07):
To i've had excellent people working to, me have always
done a very good job and generally jocobous.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Okay what about, you?
Speaker 5 (01:08:13):
Mate, yeah generally they're very very. Good but we don't
take all their. Advice that's what we've been voted. In,
well you, know we have things that we want to
achieve and things that we want to, do and some
of the ADVICE i taken other. Stuff i'm very clear
about WHAT i want to achieve and that's what we.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Do what about your, Math, SO i, MEAN i know
this isn't your, Area, mark but they thought they had
a thousand more teachers and turns out they got twelve
hundred and fifty short two and a half thousand. Wrong
but when you're dealing with that level of, incompetence how
do you handle? It because it comes back on.
Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
You, WELL i THINK i listened to that interview of
The erica and she's very clear about the fact that
her own gut feeling was telling her that she couldn't
rely on the data and went back and challenged it
and thankfully sort of has got ahead of the curved
to some. Extent but you, know that's our. Job our
job is to just sit there and have, people have
a long line of officials come through and tell us
what they think we should be. Doing we're in government
(01:09:03):
because we want to make, changes and we want to
implement what our policies are and and and get on
and do.
Speaker 24 (01:09:09):
That and that's what We the evidence just gets in
the way, sometimes doesn't.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
It Having, Well i'm, Sorry, jenny but you might have
religiously gone off everything that adviser has told. You we don't,
well and IF i did, that then we probably wouldn't
be seeing all the results we're seen at the moment
and in relation and reduction of violent crime in our country.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Days we've got to keep that.
Speaker 24 (01:09:30):
Going you've got four, papers one including when you signed
out saying that gangs were using gun rangers to practice these,
skills you still didn't and you still didn't know about,
it so you don't read You.
Speaker 5 (01:09:41):
Well that's, well that's that's complete. Nonsense having let's, get let's.
Get BUT i will say, This, mike is it is?
It labor didn't support gaining, legislation but it's proven to
be very.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Effective, well IF i have, Time i'm going to come
back To. CHAMBERS i want to quick not, that But,
ginny just quickly On, bailey do you run the risk
of in the it's the media's fault as. Well you
know how long it. Took you had the weekend and
we didn't say anything and his hand was on his
arm and he had to go and everyone get. Sacked
do we not send the message overall that people coming
(01:10:16):
from outside into. Politics so that's the sort of treatment they.
Get and it's not excuse me What bailey, did but
that's the sort of treatment they. Get who can be
bothered with? It it sounds. Pathetic who's the question to?
Speaker 11 (01:10:29):
Me?
Speaker 24 (01:10:29):
You, WELL i tell you what did sound terrible was
your interview with The Prime minister use today and SO
i think you know it was. Painful he was all
over the.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
Place i'm not asking about. That i'm asking About bailey
and hipkins barking at dogs and, cars and it's just
it becomes a sort of a. Sacothon AND i sacked
them in two minutes and it took For it's like
from the outside.
Speaker 24 (01:10:51):
Looking at answer your, QUESTION i think it would be
really helpful if we knew what actually.
Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
Happened so, well he got in the heated, discussion, grabbed pushed.
Speaker 24 (01:11:01):
His, arm did he Squeeze it was if.
Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
Someone stood on, him then fair. Enough but there was
a heated. Exchange someone grabbed someone's, arm and the next
thing he knows he's out of a.
Speaker 24 (01:11:12):
Career, well we don't know that because he won't tell
us the. Details so if we could make a judgment
on the, facts it would be good to know those.
Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
FACTS i don't, know what do you, Think, MARK i,
mean you've GOT i want to Recognize andrew and and
the fact that he was doing something outstanding.
Speaker 5 (01:11:27):
There he obviously felt like he had crossed the. Line
he's he's a very good LOCAL mp and you know
him and his. Family we will be really feeling it,
now without a. Doubt that's these things play out in
the public and it's not.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Easy but he obviously.
Speaker 5 (01:11:40):
Stepped forward and took responsibility for him and that was
the right thing to.
Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
Do, YEAH i get. That but having said, That ginny is,
right the fluxing did sound dreadful. Yesterday what's his? Problem,
mark there's a.
Speaker 5 (01:11:51):
Shot, well you're asking the wrong person because you know
That i'd really rate.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
Him, Well, LOOK i do. TOO i MEAN i liked
the guy AND i want them to do. Well and
that's not a political. STATEMENT i just want anybody to
do well to get this country off its. Knees but you,
know if you heard, YESTERDAY i, mean come.
Speaker 5 (01:12:08):
On, well Look i'm a huge supporter of his AND
i think that. No but but He's but he's when
you look at, it we don't really step back and
look at, it it's extraordinary what he's. Achieved he's only
been in. Politics you, know this is a second. Term
he's The Prime minister of the, country leading us one
of the most difficult times that we've ever had, economically
(01:12:29):
and he's a solid he's, dependable he's there every, day
he knows what we have to. Do he's great for
me being a. Minister you couldn't ask for a better prime.
Minister you next me up and everything THAT i need to.
Speaker 24 (01:12:39):
Do people aren't buying it people super.
Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
Quick, jenny The Health, COMMITTEE i had fifteen thousand written
submissions on the gene technology. Bill you're on the committee
for the. Treaty is this level of submissions? Unusual are
we suddenly more active or is it the same people
photocopying stuff off and just duplicating.
Speaker 24 (01:12:56):
Everything there are huge amounts of. Submissions they're breaking away
records every. Time and one of the things that happen
as we have larger umbrella groups that do form. Submissions
so you just had to write your name in a
few lines in that. Generator is that? Useful not, really
because you're just getting the same thing a, Lot so
you're wanting a variety of views so you understand the.
(01:13:18):
Detail AND i think people have this misconception that it's a,
race so the most submissions win the.
Speaker 13 (01:13:25):
Point that's.
Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
Right that's WHY i ask the. Question, Happens, yeah it
seems fruitless or pointless to, mean nice to see, you,
Guys Mirke Mitchell Ginny anderson eight twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:13:31):

Customers proud to SAY i did it? Myself asking your
attitude to bulk submissions smacks of. Arrogance the block submissions
give people who would normally make up the silent majority of.
VOICE covid has taught us all the silence as permission
for overriding. Governance, megan you're right and you're. Wrong but
it's like online. Petitions these, days no one pays any
attention to an online petition anymore because it's not a proper.
Petition you just tick a, box and then once you've
(01:14:54):
ticked that, box you can take it again and again
and again and again and again and again and. Again
it's a waste of. Time what select Can he's are
looking for is rational and reasoned. Argument whether it comes
from sixteen four hundred and fifty seven people or one
person doesn't make any difference because they know full well
that a bulk submission doesn't necessarily represent each in every
one of the people who allegedly, submitted because it's so
(01:15:17):
easy to. Do they've seen through the. Shearat if you
get my message as regards The Prime minister's interview yesterday
will revis as it's turned into sort of a news,
story but there is a very very good side to.
It there's a happy ending if you. Like more on
that shortly after the news which is, next and then
of Course Steve.
Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
Price, news opinion and everything in.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
Between the Mic hosking breakfast with the Range rover VI

Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
THE insidex the INSIDE me, result which is the company
that runs this radio. Station operating earnings Before i'm on
the fly here a little bit operating earnings before the
old ebit darn number fifty four point two million, revenue
thank you for the year three forty five point, nine
which is up two, percent WHICH i think most people
will readers being positive given it's a fairly titled. Economy
obviously in the media market in general is a. Problem
(01:16:10):
numbers two and a half million tune into ends In
me's digital platforms each, month and if you whacken the
audio and print and, stuff you got three and a
half million. People so that's a big company Into me's
digital audio, performance particularly strong revenue reaching ten point eight,
million thirty two percent, increase which is. Good podcast revenues
grown sixty seven, Percent digital radio streaming revenues increased by nineteen.
(01:16:33):

Speaker 3 (01:16:53):
Business plus the gentleman we go to be.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Priced very good morning to, you. Monnie now what you
got in the last couple of. Minutes so the nurse
in the, hospital.
Speaker 15 (01:17:00):
Yes and breaking. News you remember the two nurses out
of That sydney hospital in the, scrubs they were doing
an online chat with This israeli influencer From israel and
they then started talking about what they would do If
jewish patients were admitted to the, hospital making wild claims
That jewish patients had been killed within the. Hospital it
(01:17:22):
was all very very disturbing and nasty. Stuff, well in
the last few moments we learned that one of those,
nurses the female woman Called Sarah, lebda was charged On tuesday,
night seven Thirty tuesday, night charged with threatening violence using
a carriage, service which just means that she was using
that chat with The israeli influencer to make threats against
(01:17:43):
people and police have decided to charge and no news
on the male part of that. Conversation the other development
on that was That New South Wales police actually. Traveled
Australian Federal police actually traveled To israel interviewed the. Influencer
they had to get that. Interview when it came back
it was In, hebrew had to get it transferred Into.
English they're now working their way through. That so that's
(01:18:05):
happened in the last couple of.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
Good, well a lot of people will be pleased about
that BECAUSE i know in the last couple of days
the pressure has gone on the feeds to cough and
they had to, say, look be. Patient, Yeah i'm.
Speaker 15 (01:18:16):
Very reluctant to talk about, it but we've got centered
estimates hearings on at the. MOMENT i Guess i've got
no doubt that will come up at some point.
Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Today, Right, so the prospect of a hung, parliament because
we sort of DO i mean THE cmmp environment and.
STUFF i mean we're kind of used to it, now
but you still run a sort of a system whereby
somebody wins and somebody doesn't. Win what are you going
to do with a hung?
Speaker 15 (01:18:36):
Parliament, well according to The mining executives and news quotes
used language That i've rarely. Heard two of them top energy.
Chiefs one of them Is meg, O'Neil who Runs Woodside.
Energy massive company got a thirty billion dollar project on
The Northwest. Shelf the other one Is Brett, woods who
Runs Kerry stokes's oil business out of Wa Beach. Energy,
(01:19:01):
woods writing In Australay, today said it'll be a nightmare
and a quiet menace of an horrific policy will come
out of it if we have a cross bench dominated
by The greens And teals in minority government with The Labor.
Party would A meg O'Neil went. Further she said the
balance of power featuring The greens and The tials would quote,
frankly be a. Nightmayor now this is extremely strong language
(01:19:26):
weeks out for an. Election the boss of the oil,
operation he, said quote so if you feel your hip
pocket as a dull, ache now it'll be battered and
bruised if The greens are handed more sway in. Parliament,
O'Neil the woman the Running, woodside she, said if The
teals hold the balance of power federally with The, greens
it would be bad for. Households it would be a,
(01:19:49):
nightmare and she was beyond frustrated with the ongoing delays
with The Northwest shelf. Approval now that project is called
The Burrop. Peninsula it's actually up In northwest In Western.
Australia it's been held up by all of these people
claiming that it's going to Damage aboriginal rock art up,
there which it clearly is.
Speaker 12 (01:20:08):
Not going to.
Speaker 15 (01:20:08):
Do so that's just a shot across the bowels of
anyone who thinks that they might be voting independent during
the next.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
Election here's the advantage of a system that you have
that we don't, have and that is that you can
manipulate your, vote or at least massage you. Vote we've
only got a couple of, votes and this happened a
couple of elections. Ago people got frightened for The greens
and they balked on The greens and they Gave labor the,
majority And labor went nuts and ruined the. Country if
you preference, appropriately can you achieve what you think you
(01:20:38):
are going to achieve when you?
Speaker 15 (01:20:40):
Vote it seems impossible to think you. CAN i, mean
you go into the booth and you've got a mile
long voting slip and you've got to go number from
one to as many as forty or. Something you feel
inadequate when you're doing, it and the party's trying to
give you a how to vote card as you walk
through the, door or which makes it. Easy you just
(01:21:01):
tick their candidate preferences go automatically to whoever they suggest
they should go. To but the system is very much
invent in advantage of the. Independence AND i think the
tills are largely going to hang onto those inner suburban
seats In sydney And. Melbourne it's the greens where you
can pick off some of them In queensland and it's
(01:21:22):
the outer suburban seats Where labour's got small. Majorities that
is where you will probably see THE lmp pickup.
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
Numbers, okay and then we come to. Desenter who wants
to make the place of townhouse capital in what? Form
where is? This is this her area or the whole
of the, state whole?
Speaker 15 (01:21:37):
State the quote WAS i want to Make victoria the
townhouse capital Of. Australia now this is really. Disturbing what
you you can't guess at, it But i'm going to
ask you, anyway what do you think the normal waiting
time to get planning permission to build a house in inverted.
Speaker 12 (01:21:52):
Commons, well i'd like.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
To say seven, days but it's probably going to be fifteen, months.
Speaker 15 (01:21:57):
One hundred and forty five. Days he has, said if
you build the townhouses THAT i want, built and these
are three story, Structures i'll make sure that the override
your local council and you'll get permissioned in fifty eight.
Days and if you're next door neighbours SAYS i don't
like three story town, has SO i don't want one
next to, me you'll have no opportunity to.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
Appeal, wow that's called, Communism. Steve i'm not sure if
you work that one out. Yet but we were having
a similar thing here that got killed as, well and
it was going to be three houses our three stories
on a standard block of lands six or seven hundred
square meter block of, land you can build three three
story houses and no one could complain about. It and
quite you, know obviously people did. Complains it never came to,
(01:22:39):
pass so good.
Speaker 12 (01:22:41):
Lucky, well same thing's going to happen.
Speaker 15 (01:22:42):
HERE i, mean it's just you go to some of
these outer suburbs and you, know there's no, infrastructure there's
no Park.
Speaker 12 (01:22:49):
Lands there's no, schools there's one shopping.
Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
Center it's horrific and they're all Likely victoria just to
spring this on, You AND i apologize if you don't,
know because Why. Victoria The Crimes act section four five
eight allows anyone to arrest anyone they find committing an.
Offense do you know that to be? TRUE i did
not know.
Speaker 12 (01:23:07):
That so that's going to make my day very.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
Busy so you're out there and make a few citizens, Arrest, yeah.
Speaker 15 (01:23:13):
Correctly while we go Into Chatterel street WHEN i get
off the phone and arrest a few of those people
wandering around with ice, addiction making them sub.
Speaker 12 (01:23:20):
That look like a ten only.
Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
Mate you, go, Well Stuve price out Of australia backhand
next week on the, program it's already sixteen To know.
Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
The Hike Asking Breakfast Full show podcast On iHeartRadio powered

Speaker 2 (01:23:35):
All me out. Here so in The Hero i'm just
reading at the moment That Highland, park which is an
area In, auckland has got a new pack And save
which is opening. Today and this is a new one
hundred million dollar pack And. SAVE i assume that's a
lot for a. Supermarket therefore it's a big. Supermarket but
the story is that the customers are facing an our
long queue and the car park is completely not a.
Chaos what is it about the opening of? STUFF i
(01:23:59):
UNDERSTAND i won't be, there BUT i Understand, ikea for,
example When ikia finally, opens even though it's opened in
every single country in the entire world except. Here When ikea,
OPENS i get that people you know want to go
and have a. Look Cost co was the. Same but
pack and, Say i'm not sure if you is already
available to us in this country and has been for
quite some. Time i'm almost certain in saying that there
(01:24:22):
is nothing in that pack and save that isn't in
another pack and, say.
Speaker 22 (01:24:25):
Well what except for the share? Size is that what
you're C go in there and you can go look
how much bigger that this is than?
Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
Now CAN i suggest to you that instead of waiting
for an hour with the chaotic car, park you. Go
maybe in three days time it will still be the same,
size not just the same size on opening day then
it will.
Speaker 14 (01:24:42):
Shrink, well they have a lot of opening. Specials did do.
Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
You think we use the opening? Special what is it?
Good tell us WHY i have no.
Speaker 14 (01:24:47):
Idea i'm just getting this from sources close to.
Speaker 5 (01:24:50):
Me.
Speaker 14 (01:24:51):
Everyone should we get should we Get jason and interview
him about this sort of?
Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
Thing we can see the sort of person WHO i
imagine he would.
Speaker 22 (01:24:58):
Have, been because you know that he he loves an
opening or. Something, yeah he's a he's a road opening
kind of a walkout.
Speaker 14 (01:25:06):
Room that is, true isn't.
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
It he went when they're building the road whatever that road,
was it was mungering South South. Oakland he went to
the road where they opened the road for you to
walk on before the. Cars he went down family. Trip
that's what he. Does he's quite. Right i'm surprised is at.
Speaker 22 (01:25:18):
WORK i mean as not a Pack, say it's not
a forty nine cent head Of Bob choy enough to
get you in?
Speaker 11 (01:25:23):
There is that the?
Speaker 2 (01:25:24):
Deal? Bobjoy forty nine cents ninety nine for an avoca that's. Standard,
yep eighty nine cents for a bottle of coconut. Water
that seems a good. Deal that ninety nine for the
avocado that's bog Standard at the. MOMENT i mean there's
the market's festooned with avocados at the. Moment, mike like
YOU i Want luxton to do, well and genuinely want
him to do, well and think he is the best,
(01:25:44):
hope but found yesterday's In tobu. Excruciating, anyway had time
to think about it all yesterday WHILE i was. DRIVING
i Think luckxlon was trying to say badly is that
the ministers know his expectations and they're agreed to and
so if they cross these, expectations they are meant to
resign without THE pm having to ask for. IT i
think you're. RIGHT i think your stummation is one hundred percent.
Correct but the reason this is news twenty four hours
(01:26:05):
later is you spent all day deciphering what The Prime minister,
said and even if you came to what you AND
i agree is probably the correct, conclusion it shouldn't be that.
Way and not only shouldn't it be that, way he
knows it shouldn't be that way because he's been told
it shouldn't be that. Way and the polls reflect that
there's a lack of connection between the public and The Prime.
(01:26:26):
Minister he's not particularly. LIKABLE i think many of us
wish him. Well those of us who know him like.
Him he's a good, guy he's got good. Ideas he broadly,
speaking has a fantastic work. Ethic he's on the right.
Track hopefully the economy will come. Right but the bit
that's missing is the bit that you saw With, key
(01:26:46):
And key was one of, us And luxon doesn't appear to.
Be and the more he, tries the less successfully he.
Speaker 13 (01:26:52):
Is, oh come, on come, on give me a.
