There's a view that Kamala Harris needs to up the ante on issues like inflation and the economy to sway more voters.

The Vice President and former President Donald Trump battled fiercely over the economy, abortion, and foreign policy in yesterday's debate.

There's since been heavy consensus that Harris won the day.

However, former chief of staff of Republican Marco Rubio, Matt Terrill told Mike Hosking Harris didn't accomplish what she needed to.

He says the economy's the number one issue voters care about, and polling shows Trump increased favourability on it.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
So to the debate one snack poll guy. But the
Harris might be because of this sort of thing in Springfield.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
They're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're
eating the cats, they're eating they're eating the pets.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
It was a proct It probably didn't help the max
that went on. Now this is the possibility apparently of
another Marca Ruby as former chief of staff. Matt Terrell
is back with its Matt morning to you.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Hey, great to be with you.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Did it move the needle? You know?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I don't think so. I think what to see in
the polling, and I will take some time, but I
don't think this debate actually is going to make or
break this election. I don't think it moved the needle much.
Obviously there was missed opportunities by former President Trump last night.
But with that said, I'm not so sure, least to
my view, that Vice President Harris necessarily accomplished which she
need to accomplished last night. But todays are relays to
movie voters in her direction on key issues such as

(00:49):
the economy. You know, the economy's going to really drive
this elections and number one issue of voters care about.
If you look at the polling for President Trumpet actually
increased his favorability on that issue after the debate in
comparison to post pre debate. So, look, at the end
of the day, I think this is gonna be a
race that comes down to the issues. We'll see how
that takes shape in time will tell.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
How does she differentiate herself from Biden and why hasn't she.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Well, it's a challenge and why she hasn't is because
it's hard to do in the sense that this has
been the Biden Harris administration. You know, look at the
end of the day, she's been a second command in
this administration, and right now voters are concerned and frustrated
with where inflation is bad. You've had nearly roughly twenty
percent inflation almost over the roughly past four years that
the Biden Harris administration has been in office. You've seen

(01:35):
skyrocketing crossings at the border. The economy, inflation, border security
will be the top issues they're going to drive this race.
And to your point, in terms of separating herself from
the Biden administration, whence the Biden Harris administration that this
has been over the past roughly four years, that's almost
an impossible task. You saw her trying to do some
of that throughout this campaign, But voters know that she's

(01:56):
been in office, she's been an incumbent, and that's hard
to move off these issues, is it, Paul?

Speaker 1 (02:00):
She could feel or her team could feel this morning
that she can win this thing just on good vibes
and beta Tomorrow's and all the other stuff she rolls out.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Well, Look, I think some of that works with the
political bases, namely, for example, the Democrat base. I think
they're fired up for Vice President Harris. I think the
GOP base is fired up for Foreign President Trump. I
think the political bases are going to turn out. I
think this election comes down to low propensity voters and
just those handful of independent and undecided voters. At the
end of the day, it's going to be roughly forty

(02:28):
five thousand voters, maybe one hundred thousand voters at the most.
They're going to decide this race. And what do they
care about. They care about the issues. They don't care
about personalities or vibes. They care about inflation, border security,
the economy, and right now, Foreign President Trump is pulling
quite well on those issues. He's actually doing better on
those issues than Vice President Harris. At the end of
the day, you might have voters out there saying, you

(02:49):
know what, I don't agree with form Persident Trump on everything.
I don't agree with every social media posts, for every
comment he made during the debate or on the campaign trail,
but I agree with them on those issues, and I
may vote for him based on those issues. I think
a lot of voters may do that, but can be
up to four President Trump at the end of the
day to win them over.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Always good to have you on the product, mat appreciate
it very much. Mat Tyrell, who is Marco Rubio's former
rum chief of stuff.
