Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's let's have another correct time this weekend for the
All Blacks as they line the South Africans up with
the decider in Cape Town and the early hours of
Sunday morning, New Zealand time All Blacks coach got robertson
with us.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Good morning, I helped it from South Africa.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Well, it's it's very good. How's it been for you
talk us through the week?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah? Oh look mate, the changing room been in a
few changing rooms, man, that was That was a tough one.
That was a lot of herd, a lot of hurd
and it got of upset people, players and staff and management.
As you can I Mentionine, we put everything into it
and we didn't get the job done and you got
turned the page pretty quickly. And on the Monday we
funked it up. We'll get better and we got on
(00:39):
with it.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
How exposed have you been this week to the commentary,
the noise, the local expectation, all of that stuff or
have you kept yourself away from it?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
I haven't picked on ty Apps, to be honest with you. Well,
golf course, I know it's going to be there no
matter what happened, really harm So look, look I'm just
doing everything I can this work for the team and
work for the allbacks. And that's my focus.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
On the difference between Ellis Park and this weekend Cape Town,
the size of support all that. Does that make any
difference at all or not?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Oh man, that the Ellis Park is someplace that's a
it's an experience and a half mic. I don't think
there's anything that you can compare that to you. But
although I supporters down here as you know that, and
the Cape of you know, right behind us wet so
many people at are training and there panetics, so there
will be a different feel. It's a totally different vibe
than being up there. But still it's still a big tangle.
(01:36):
It's still going to be as fierce as it ever has.
You know the spring box, you know, they when they
roll up, they roll up. So from from the point
of view, in the atmosphere of view, it doesn't matter
where you go. In cert Affricate, they know their rugby passionate.
Doesn't matter what color gender they are, they are into it.
So look, it's going to be another health testament.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Are you able to give in one how and last week?
Are you able to embrace in the guys able to
embrace the environment because you could argue these are the
two best sides in the world, the exponents at this
particular art and that's to be Actually that's exciting.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, well there's the challenge you want, you know, like
we've it's seven or deeptons of share and they just
experienced stuff they never would have done before head before.
To go and do it here against your team, that's
you know, got clear DNA. You know they want you know,
they want the ball off the petrol or stop so
(02:36):
you know, they want a game where it just goes
into an army stole and a grind. And it's so
there's so many factors. Is the referee, the interpretation, the laws.
You know, they can play on top of your things
games so quickly, so you know you've got to learn
really really quickly. And it's been a great experience for
(02:56):
us to tour. Normally tour, you know, Mike, it's but
this is a genoine two block tour. You know, normally
pay a team to back. So that's unique in itself.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Exactly. Speaking of which, the South African head of rugby,
let's look at this, this talk of this tour in
twenty twenty six eight matches, three tests. Is that something
you would relish?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
It'll be an awesome Yeah, it's as your forties, but
you know if it does come along, but the concept's awesome,
you know, like touring bit of old school to it.
You know you've got a group of sixty odd midweek
and just that there's a genuine wine tour eag you know,
two biggest rivals. So it's something gets you know, it's
(03:39):
a farty back in time, but it's just what you
need right now. And we're bugby talk us through.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
You talked about the changing of the site, the changes
you're making, and some of them are young guys or
new guys. What do you tell them and why are
you experimenting to this level at this particular point of
the tour given you know, many people would argue just
put your best players on the field that you know,
can you know live up to the expectation and the tension.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah, there's a bit of a balance to that, you know.
Like obviously we've had a couple of juries. With Deepen
and Caleb playing great footy, it's tough on them and
they disappointed, the upset they wanted to play and we
just see so much in these young these young players,
and to give them an opportunity, you know, like that's
what said later for you know, they don't to go
(04:26):
and play them. You know, look Court has played a
lot of rugby with the neck. You know, it's an
exciting young player. And we can finish with TJ. And
obviously we're both and then his role in his experience
and what he's done when he's come off the bench.
So we believe we've got a great balance to set
these guys up to succeed and and go and play that.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Talented good How are you enjoying it? We haven't talked
since you've got the job or you know you started
out in the job. Have the all Blacks got the
full razor imprint yet?
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Oh? Look, because it's the first of everything. Everything is
the first you think you do the first test match?
You know that your first your language, how you set
it up, how I do my mindset stuff for the
on field, how you run a week? You know, the
first tour that you've got. So once you've done that
and even goes I've got it now because everyone's sort
(05:16):
of sort of guessing what there's a match here to
what you think when you walk into everyone that we've
got so your present, everyone's like, oh okay, so there's
a lot of now that's all done. But you don't
matter how much preparation you do. You really only learn
when you've got the job. And it's as we know,
it's all a big job, but it's still about people.
(05:37):
It's still about you know, trusting your instinct and and
just stepping forward and doing the right things. So it's
it's a big the hell of a job, the hell
of expectation and responsibility comes with it. And the look
I enjoyed, I'm just going to continue to be myself.
That's my mind set.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
The best thing you can possibly be. Will go well
this weekend. Always good to talk to you and you good.
