day in Quizdory July tenth, nineteen fifty four. Major League
baseball outfielder Andre Dawson is born in Miami, Florida, A
Southwest Miami High School graduate, Dawson attended Florida A and
M University. In nineteen seventy five, he was drafted by
the Montreal Expos and debuted in his first game on

September eleventh, nineteen seventy six. Nicknamed both the Hawk and
Awesome Dawson, Andre Dawson played twenty one seasons in the
Big Leagues. An eight time All Star, he became only
the second player in the history of the sport to
steal three hundred bases and hit four hundred home runs.
After leaving Montreal in nineteen eighty seven, Dawson signed with

the Chicago Cubs, where he played six seasons. He retired
in nineteen ninety six as a member of the Florida Marlins.
An eight time Gold Glove winner who endured multiple knee
surgeries throughout his career, Dawson had a two to seventy
nine career batting average. He was inducted into the Baseball
Hall of Fame in twenty ten.
