This day in Quistory, July seventeenth, nineteen twenty one. Tony
tom Boys Stone, the first female to play in Negro
League baseball, is born in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Stone had
a passion for the game early on. By age fifteen,
she was playing for the Twin City Colored Giants, a
semi professional men's team. In nineteen fifty three, Stone was

signed by the Negro League's Indianapolis Clowns to play second base,
a position that had been vacated by Hank Aaron the
previous year. She maintained a two forty three batting average
throughout fifty games and even earned a hitoff legendary pitcher
Satchel Paige. Stone's professional career was short lived, as she
retired the following season due to a lack of playing time.
