Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now, I think anybody who listens to this show regularly
knows that I love catching up with young people who
are doing positive things. So when I found out that
this group of Indigenous students from Haylearbury Rendel School were
learning more about the media about interviewing people as well,
I knew I wanted to get them into the studio.
Now they've been learning about as I understand it, they've

(00:21):
been learning about interviews, asking meaningful questions, giving reasons to
support their ideas as well. And the students have been
studying a show called Take five with Zan Rowe. Now
it's a series where they get notable figures from music
films sport to discuss five songs that shape their lives
and also give some insight into their well creative hearts.

(00:43):
Now I'm excited to say that all these young fellows
join me in the studio this morning. I have got Maslin,
I've got Kenny Tyler, Danny, Jacob Jamison and Colin and
their teachers of course, Alisa Ogilvy and Angus. Good morning everyone,
Good morning. It's so good to have you all in

(01:05):
the studio this morning. As I said, when I found
out that you guys were learning a little bit more,
you know, about the media, about music, about interviews. I
was like, this sounds like such a great opportunity to
have you guys in here. First off, how have you
been enjoying this subject and learning about this stuff?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
It was good learning about like different music genres and
all that, and like studying music as well.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
I might move that mic a tiny bit closer to
you there, Maslin, if that's all right, just so we
can hear you nice and loudly. So you've been you've
been enjoying it. Those have been interesting to sort of
to take a closer look at some of those interviews too,
and some of those different questions that get asked.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, and it's been interesting and you know, learn quite
a few stuff as well.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Yep. Now, Madison, where are you from?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I'm from Lajimono, which is about nine hundred k south
from Darwin.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yes, on the edge of the ten of my desert.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
And how are you enjoying school at Hailearbrey? Do you
like it?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah? I like it very much. Opportunities and what's this?

Speaker 1 (02:08):
So this subject has it been one that you've enjoyed,
you know, in terms of looking at the music as well,
and and why some of that music is meaningful to
different people.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
And I've enjoyed learning about the subject and all that.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah. Now, what about Tyler? I might go across to you.
Where are you from? Mate?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
I'm from Catherine, Catherine?

Speaker 1 (02:28):
And how long have you been going to Halarbury? For
three and a half years?

Speaker 3 (02:32):
And how about you?

Speaker 1 (02:33):
What's it been like for you in terms of, you know,
creating your class, really creating sort of a list of
songs that are meaningful to all of you.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yes, good, learn something new?

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yep. Have you enjoyed the subject and looking at you know,
the way that people conduct interviews and that kind of
thing too, Ye? Yeah, I reckon it's a wonderful thing
to do. Now, Colin, I might go to you next.
Whereabouts you from?

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I'm from Wyndham, just across the border from Darlan.

Speaker 3 (03:00):

this year? Started this year? You're enjoying it?

Speaker 5 (03:06):

Speaker 3 (03:06):
And what about this subject?

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Have you been enjoying taking a bit of a closer
look at you know, those interview styles, the music and
what it means to people.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Yeah, different songs mean a lot to people.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
I love that this is a subject that you guys
have done. I think music has such a big impact
on people's lives in different ways, and you know, some
of that music is so meaningful to people in different ways.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Jamison, where are you from?

Speaker 5 (03:31):
I'm from Maningrida, which is right on the top of
Northern Territory.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Oh, how good. My mom lives in mad Ingrida. What
a great place.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
She's out there at the at the health clinic. So
many good people in mad Ingrida. Now tell me how, Like,
how have you enjoyed this subject?

Speaker 5 (03:47):
I just like listening to music, and well, it's kind
of interesting to listen to other peoples in their own
opinions of listening to these musics and how it makes
them feel and stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Have you learned a bit more about some of the
other boys in your class as you do, you know,
learn a little bit more about that music and what
it means to them.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Has that been something that you've all enjoyed sort of
finding out a little bit more about each other?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah? I think it brings like friends like more closer
and make greater bond with each other as well.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yep, Now, Alisa, I might go to you, what's it
been like teaching this subject and teaching these awesome young fellows.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
It's been so much fun. It's my favorite part of
the day is working with all the guys here, learning
more about them. And I feel like music really connects
us and it just brings a lot of joy to
the classroom.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I agree, like music has got this wonderful way of
connecting people, and for you guys, then it sort of
breaks down some of those barriers as well, right in
terms of being able to talk to each other about
what's something.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Like what that music means to you? Yes?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Now what about the you know, watching the ways in
which people do interviews and all. I was sort of
learning a bit more about you know, about that kind
of stuff the media too.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Have you done a little bit of that.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
Yeah, we've been watching different interviews or what makes a
good interview If someone's speaking confidently and knows what they're
speaking about. Yeah, we've learned that that makes a better interview.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
How good?

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Well, look, I want to find out more about what
these the class's top five favorite songs are.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
