Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now we know that the Catherine Police have arrested sixteen
(00:03):
youths in a targeted operation to tagle property related crime
in Catherine, CBD. The three day effort, conducted between October
fifteen and seventeen, involved the local police, but it also
involved Will Strike Force, Cerebus and community partners, resulting in
a number of charges. Now joining us on the line
(00:24):
is the acting sergeant in Catherine, Rebecca Styles. Good morning
to you, Rebecca.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Good morning Katie. How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Yeah, really good, lovely to have you on the show. Now,
can you tell us a bit more about this operation
and the drivers behind launching it.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, of course. So the operation is basically just a
highlight of what we do day today. Anyway, Like you said,
it was a three day operation targeting property crime. We
worked closely with Kolano Community and circuit breakerware. We just
basically patrolled the streets, got rid of any people on
the streets that should work out at nighttime where they
(01:00):
shouldn't be. Basically just ensuring safety community and high visibility
patrols by police.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah right, So tell me a bit about you know,
with that high visibility policing, and it sounds like a
really sort of proactive way to get out there on
the streets. Tell me about some of what you saw
and what the operation really resulted in.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
So as it mentions in the media release, we strike
for service arrested sixteen youths kind of unrelated to the operation.
By the operation itself saw over sixty youths engaged with
and taken home. And that also those starts also include
adults we're engaged with by Kolano community as well.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Goodness me, I mean it's like sixteen moths being arrested
and then you know, engaging like with with more than
sixty youths. It's quite a large number of people that
were out on the streets potent like doing the wrong thing,
I suppose.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Well, I think that's where there's a bit of confusion.
So the children on the streets, they're not always committing offenses. Yeah,
it's they're out, they're wandering the hanging out with their friends.
They're the ones that we're picking up, we're taking home.
The ones that are committing offenses, we are picking up
and we're dealing with them as as needed. But it's
not always the story when if a kid's on the
(02:19):
street that.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
In terms of though the charges that were laid, like
it does sound as though there were quite a few
charges laid. What were some of those? What was some
of the offending that was going on.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
So we had a big investigation in relation to a
stolen motor vehicle. One in particular was stolen from a
residence here and Catherine and driven by a group of
youths to Tenant Creaking Back. So that saw a lot
of our arrests and a lot of our charges come
from that.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Driven to Tenant Creaking Back. Goodness me, that's a long
That's a long drive in a stolen car, it is, indeed. Yeah,
So talk me through in terms of you know those
Obviously those charges were laid, but I know there was
also We actually spoke to NTY Emergency Services in Catherine
on Friday following a break in with some items stolen
(03:08):
and equipment damage. Has there been much of an update
or where's that investigation?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Ash So Catherine CIB members continue to investigate that one.
To my knowledge, there was footage released of the burglary,
and we do believe that members of the public will
know who these offenders are, and as always, we just
kind of urge everyone to call through with any information
that they do have.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
So, Rebecca, in relation to you know, how things are
sort of tracking after the operation was conducted there in
the Catherine CBD and you know plans for more operations
like this, is that sort of what you're hoping to
do that you are hoping to have more of these
operations to really keep things dice and calm in the city.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah. Absolutely. Like I said before, the operation is something
that we do day to day anyway. It's just we
focused and made a highlight over the last those three
specific days, and so we always work closely with Kolano
and other agencies to help youth, adults, all that kind
of stuff. So it's definitely something that we will continue
(04:12):
to do.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, collecting Sergeant Rebecca Styles in Catherine. Good to catch
up with you this morning. I appreciate your time.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Thank you
