We love it when there's young people in the Northern
territory doing fantastic stuff. And there is a mixed Casuarina
football team that are planning to head across to Valencia,
Spain to play soccer football early next year. Now joining
me in the studio is kind Noah, good morning to you.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Good morning, and I've also.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Got Amelia, Good morning Amelia and Brody. Now, Brody, are
you team manager or just very very wonderful parents.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
A bit of both given the captain the team manager's hats,
So yes.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Wonderful stuff. Now, it's so great to have you all
in the studio. Kind of can I ask you, first, mate,
how excited are you about getting to go overseas to
play football.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I'm proper excited. I love that.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Well, I'm proper excited for you getting to go. Tell
me a bit about your team. It's a mixed team,
isn't it mixed team?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
We have stars really fast, agile. We have Amelia pretty
sure she plays center back or left wing, one of
the two. We have Unni. He is small but he's
strong as we have. Who else do we have?
Speaker 1 (01:16):
It's fifteen players a lot well, kind of what position
do you play?
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Mate, I play left wing.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Are your speedy?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Uh sort of.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Sort of and fish? I would imagine on the wing
are you and how's your are your left foot or
right foot?
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Left left foot?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
How's your how's your kick a goal? I'm assuming very
very good.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
I mainly just crossed the walls. Yeah, I don't really
have much shots.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
But mate, what do you love about playing soccer? And
and you know, getting the opportunity to go overseas?
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, I just can't wait to go overseas because of
how much my technique can improve because he's your wait
for licensed coaches, Well that organized some of the biggest
competitions in the world. Yeah, right, I'm just excited.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
So tell me, Brody, this might be a question for you,
like in terms of what they're going away for. So
they're playing other teams, but are they also going to
get the opportunity to sort of to meet some of
these coaches from other locations as well.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah. So they're International Development Academy run training camp program.
So the original plan was an eleven night full training
camp at IIDA. So you get all the coaches.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, they're in the gym.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Sports psychologist, the whole lot, and then the dates that
we were planning to travel lined up with their Easter
Cup tournament, so they've asked the kids if they will
stay and play. So we spoke to Fran from Iida
on Tuesday night and at the moment they've got eighty
teams participating in the Wow, so they're going to get
to meet kids from all over the world. That's so
Currently they're their only team from Australia, going, Oh, that's
(02:52):
so cool for Darwin grassroots kids.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
It really is, Amelia. How old are you? I'm fourteen
and are you just pump?
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Yes? I'm so excited.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
What do you love about playing football?
Speaker 4 (03:04):
I love the game itself and like the friendships you
can make while you're playing.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
And tell me, you know, getting to play amongst like
eighty other teams and being the only team from Australia,
let alone from the Northern Territory, how does that make
you feel?
Speaker 4 (03:19):
It's really good. It makes us really proud and privileged
to be a part of this.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah, and it's just like.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
A good experience and opportunity to actually go away too soon.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Well, and look, I know as a parent that it
can be really expensive to send your kids away for
different sports, but also you want to give your kids
those opportunities, and this sounds like it's going to be
a phenomenal opportunity for them, Brody, but it's going to
be expensive, I reckon. Yeah, are you guys fundraising? What
are you doing?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Madly fundraising? So we have tried to set up some
socials and we've been you know, there has been sausageess,
there's been bake sales. We're doing raffles. The kids are
pounding the pavement through Wenelly and Barriment, door knocking on businesses. Good, yeah,
there is, there's always you know. Please, if anybody would
like to support these Dunn kids to have this amazing trip,
(04:09):
we would love to speak to you about anything we
can do to you.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Absolutely. Well. Look, if there is any business out there
listening this morning, that is Keen, get in contact with
us here at the station and we'll get you in
contact with Brody. But you know, it sounds like such
a phenomenal opportunity for you guys. Kind of how old
are you, mate, I'm fourteen fourteen as well, like I
just think, you know, fourteen getting to go overseas to
(04:33):
play a sport that you love is so awesome and
I know that a lot of people listening this morning
will think exactly the same thing. So I hope that
there are some businesses listening that are keen to help you, guys,
so that you can make sure that you, you know,
you can get over there and achieve this and play
against teams from all over the world. What country would
(04:55):
you most like to play against? You and I any
all of them?
Speaker 4 (04:59):
All of that.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Who would you most like to beat?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Ah? Probably America? Yeah, good?
Speaker 1 (05:08):
What about your Amelia?
Speaker 4 (05:09):
I don't mind any It's just a great opportunity to
actually play against countries like that.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah, it's so true. It's awesome for both of you.
I love it as well that it's a mixed team.
So you got the girls and the boys going away.
I reckon that's fantastic, And it means you've both got
heaps of friends going to I would imagine.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yeah, it's a good team bonding form. When they come
back they've had this amazing experience. Bring it back to
Darwin and to the other kids, and maybe this could
be a pathway that's created for other children to go. Yeah,
there's relationships that you build through this trip.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yeah, and look, I think that's such an important thing
for our young people out of the Northern Territory because
it can be hard sometimes to get those pathways depending
on what sport you play. But it keeps you motivated. Hey,
it makes you want to train really hard if you
know you're going away on a big trip, don't you reckon?
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Yeah, yeah, keeps you going, that's for sure. Well, look,
I hope that there's lots of people that want to
support you guys. Make sure you let me know if
you're doing anything, you know, for fundraising, if you're out
there selling raffle tickets somewhere or something, let us know.
We'll let our listeners know as well, and I'll come
along and buy some.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Good on you guys. We'll catch up with you before
you go away too. Okay, I want to find out
how the training's going. You're going to train over Christmas?
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Tooted?
Speaker 1 (06:21):
How often are you training?
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Four times a week?
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (06:25):

times a week?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
