Speaker 1 (00:00):
But the issue that a lot of people have been

(00:01):
in contact with me about over the last couple of
days is Saint Vincent de Paul's Osnam House. We know
that it moved from Stuart Park to Coconut Grove last year.
It was a move which concerned a number of locals
who were worried that that move would see an increase
in anti social behavior. It was meant to be temporary
until a permanent site was secured. Now, over the weekend

(00:23):
we learned that a development application has been laudged to
extend the current lease to September twenty twenty nine. Now
joining us on the line is a Coconut Grove business owner, Terrees.
Good morning to you Therees.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Good morning, Katie, Thanks.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
So much for your time this morning. Terrese. What was
your reaction when you saw those pink signs go up
towards the end of the week last week.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Well, I shook my head and I thought, here we
go again. You're going on a merry go round, are
getting push from one side to the other, both labor
and liberal. I think you're letting us all down. Be
honest with you, When it opened last year, we pretty
much had trouble from then on. And I found a
lot of empty alcohol bottles in the street on dick

(01:11):
Wok Drive, and I took a photo and sent it
through to the events of the poll and so forth.
And his answer to me was, don't send me any
or emails thor here we go from then on, he said,
I We'll just get it all cleaned up. Osdenhouse said,

(01:32):
contact events that would make sure the streets to clean.
Then the violence started in the street prior to Christmas.
Of course, a lot of it did just come into town,
which is understandable because they get stuck out there in
the web season. So we had a huge influx of
Indigenous people in this all along dick Ward Drive and
the whole area, and up and down individual streets that

(01:53):
come off dick War Drive. We had lots of violence
in our street with card smash when those cars broken
into fighting on the road, blocking the traffic in the
street all hours of the night. It just went on
and on and on. We're to ring the police so
many times. And I thought in some cases where I'd

(02:14):
have some screaming at my gate, I'd bring Laraki. One
night I rang their recreation. They said, oh, sorry, we've
only got one car tonight. It's at Palmerston. And I said,
I was just supposed to deal with these situations. Another
situation when I rang their recreation, they said, no, sorry,
wring the police, not our problem. And if you'd have

(02:35):
seen and read the initial proposal, all these people supposed
to work together, well it's not happening.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yeah, right, So you reckon all those services that were
meant to be working together. They aren't.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
No, they're not, they're not. I don't call anyone, says
I mean. We've got four neighbors in our street from
the park, sorry, from dick Wall Drive to the park,
which is a short distance. Four neighbors have put up
fencing and eltic gates. They've had to. And also Larichiean
Nation has done the same, put up all new fencing

(03:07):
and gates. I've lived in this street since nineteen ninety
two and I've walked the dogs around this area all
the time, and Larochean Nation has never ever changed their fencing,
but all of a sudden they've done it. We've had
construction over the past two months across the road with
steel columns and roofing going all around the buildings, and

(03:28):
it's supposed to be temporary as far as the traffic goes.
You could if you put out a question to the
public and asks them how many times have you had
to put your brake some to car drive because they
walk across the road. If you hit them, you hurt them,
You're in big trouble. You get charged, and the traffic

(03:49):
has banked up a lot, a lot. The other issue
we have is we had a meeting with Joshua Bergerlin
and Lourizio in the Park in February this year with
our concerns with the violence, et cetera. And the CEO
from Saint Viney's was there as well.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Well.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
The DCA is obviously Joshua Burgoyne. So we feel that
we've been misled all along and doesn't matter what we do, Yeah,
they're always going to do it. And DDA. When we
had the meeting and a lot of the residents were
there last year, they just chopped us down, chopped us down,

(04:32):
chopp Tostown and we thought, Okay, we're going to have
some deaths soon. And we have had deaths, we have
had more domestic violence, we've had more trouble. I just
don't get it, and I'm really disappointed listening to Leah
this morning, and no respected Leah because I admired her greatly.
But I did speak to her not long ago and

(04:54):
I asked her about these things and she said, oh,
we had a sight. We had recognized a site five
years ago. And I put it to Natasha File's at
Parliament and Natasha kept ignoring U, signoring a signorious and
I said, well, what's happening. And then to hear this
morning here on the radio this morning we have to
go through I'm thinking, hang on, here we go again. Yeah. Everyone,

(05:18):
everyone's pulling the wall and without being disrespectful, talking bullshite everyone.
Everyone's had enough. Yeah, everyone's had enough. It's like they're
bouncing a basketball between the CRP and the Liberal Party.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah, the Labor Party.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, they're just bouncing back and forth, back and forth.
But no action, no action, nothing's happening.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
And Territorians wanted sorted out. I mean, like this is
an issue over the weekend. Tories like, You're not the
only person who's been in contact with me. I've got
friends that live in the area. I know plenty of
people in the area. Other listeners have been in contact.
They're really quite concerned about this. We're going to catch
up with the Saint Vinis CEO role but butter a
little later this morning. But I mean, yeah, not to

(06:05):
you know, to those out there listening this morning, to
anybody sort of going, oh, well, you know, come on,
it's temporary. It's only for a couple more years. What
would you say to those people listening to this morning,
or to the politicians that are in these decision making
positions that really can affect change.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Stop pushing one problem to another area. And that's all
they're doing. It's just moving one drama along the road
because of all the who are in Steel Park and
moving it down here and now we've got the same
problem they've having. What annoys me is that it's only
been operating for fourteen months. Excuse me, fourteen months, and

(06:47):
now they want to put us to do all the
submissions again by Friday, the twenty fourth of October, eleven
months prior to the extension, which is supposed to be
the twenty first of September twenty two six. I just
want to know what the hell is going on, yep,
and stop lying, stop making excuses and playing.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Games THERESE will try and stay on top of the issue.
Please keep in contact with me though, as well as
different you know, like as you as you get told
different things, you know. I want to try and help
you guys as best I can.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
One thing i'd like you to ask, Yeah, please, we
next asking the question do the police support this in
coconut growth? It'd be interested, it'd be very interesting to
hear what he has to say. I'd like you to
do that if you don't mind.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Yeah, yeah, yep, definitely. I don't know when we've got
him on next, but we'll definitely, we will will put
that question to the commissioner Therese. I really appreciate you
getting in contact with me and making sure that we're
aware of what's going on. Keep in contact and we'll
do our best to try and get some answers. Okay,
thank you anytime. Thanks Teres
