Speaker 1 (00:00):
And pleased to say that joining me in the studio
right now as we do here from the Northern Territory
Police most Wednesday mornings, but joining me in the studio
is Commander David Moore as well as Detective Acting Senior
Sergeant Chris Humphries from TRIDENT. Good morning to you.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Boss, Good morning, good morning to your listeners.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Good to have you in the studio now. David, I
might go to you first, if that's okay, and ask
you there has been a bit of coverage over the
last week or so about a death at Royal Darwin Hospital.
Where are things at with this investigation.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, so we've got we've basically got an incident here
at Ryal Dalen Hospital where we've obviously had a doctor
that actually a forty five year old male doctor who's
been charged with some child abuse material and obviously that
was on the fourteenth of February this year. Following that arrest,
he has been given bal and he will appear acord
on the first of April of this year. But what

(00:55):
we also have is a second doctor obviously that we've
discovered through the emmergency services, has been deceased and this
is out located out near the All Darwin Hospital. Police
attend it at this stage and the circumstances appear to
be non suspicious. However, obviously we're still investigating that. Just
want to make it quite clear that there's no correlation
between that particular doctor who's been charged and this particular doctor.

(01:18):
There was some leading in relation to that, obviously, is
it this doctor has become deceased because is there a
leading because of the offending of the child pornography for
the other doctor. There's no correlation to that.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Okay, so there's quite clear. So there's no correlation between
those two because that had certainly been the questioning and
the speculation.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I guess that's definitely. I can definitely state there's no
correlation whatsoever between between those two the first doctor has
been charged and the doctor that's deceased.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
So is there still investigations ongoing in relation to this, Yes,
there is. I mean, look, hearing this or hearing about
this whole situation. You know, when I first had at
about the forty five year old doctor being charged in
relation to alleged child abuse material, I mean my first
reaction was, people, are patients have those patients at the hospital?

(02:11):
Are they safe?

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Well, I believe so, Katie. I believe so, and that's
something obviously. Look, we're not discovering anything more at this stage.
There's still a live investigation. Nevertheless, Look, it is alarming
obviously any types of offending in that nature does give
community a bit of obviously a heightened alarm, particularly patience.
But at this stage MI understanding it's still under investigation,
but the public is quite safe.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, all right. I want to move along because there
is so much to cover off this morning, and I
want to ask you about the arrest of a thirty
three year old male for indecent assault in the Darwin
CBD on Sunday morning. Now, at about two ten in
the morning, members in the area witness this man in
decently assaulting multiple victims outside of a licensed premises on

(02:55):
Mitchell Street, adjacent to Nuttle Place. I mean, it sounds
gross to put it bluntly, I suppose, but this thirty
three year old he is what's the situation Now? Has
he been charged, Jesse, he.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Has, Look, he's been arrested. He's expected to be charged
later today. So that's that's pretty much. But obviously, what
the main thing here is that we're obviously still investigating that.
It's still live, it's still raw, but we are urging
any victims that may have left the era prior to
talking to police to make contact on one three one
Triple four. Obviously seeking any further information in relation to that,
but we do have someone that's helping us with our

(03:29):
inquiries and we've led to believe there's possibly a charge
that may come today and obviously if that does, the
media will be informed.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Do we know how many victims there were?

Speaker 2 (03:36):
No, I don't have that in front of me.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
But there could potentially be more.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Hence why I'm seeking any other witnesses or anyone that
may feel that they are involved in the Internet or
know something about it help us with our inquiries.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Comander, I also just want to ask you before I
before I start to ask Chris a few questions about
some arrests that have happened through Trident, but before I
go there, this situation with hand sanitizer, right, so we're
talking about it. Yesterday we heard from the Chief Health
Officer who had said it was more a situation where
there'd been some anecdotal evidence from the Northern Territory Police

(04:08):
more so in Central Australia. From my understanding about hand
sanitizer being misused by people who maybe can't get their
hands on alcohol. Is this something that's happening across the territory.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, I'm not certain if it's across the territory. We
certainly have had some incidents, particularly in the southern region
where obviously, as you have alluded to, where we have
seen the consumption of hand sanitizer being consumed. That's obviously
quite alarming because even though it's not classified as a
volatile substance, its ingestion actually falls under the broader issue
of the poisoning and obviously we're more concerned with what

(04:41):
the chemicals could be doing to someone quite harmful. It
is a public health matter. But well I can say
is that we're obviously working very closely with the public
health to obviously address this and to look at the
bigger issue and obviously get that messaging out, particularly around
the dangers to it and looking at how many incidents
we're having an ongoing thing. Is it something that's larger

(05:03):
and what can we do to minimize the harm?

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Are we going to get to a point where the
hands and he's got to be behind lockdoors.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Look, I hope not. I know we've been down that
path with mouthwash and other substances. I hope not. But
at the end of the day, that's something that the
Health Agency will have to obviously determine and put something
up in relation to if they feel that's the case.
It's still look it's obviously still very raw, very live,
and we'll have a good look at that. But we're
working very closely with the Department of Health in relation

(05:30):
to this incident.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Now, if you have just joined us in the studio
with me this morning, Commander David Moore and Detective Acting
Senior Sergeant Chris Humphries from Strikeforce Trident. Now, Chris, I
understand that just this morning you guys have been out
and investigating something to do with Molotov cocktails.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Is that right?

Speaker 3 (05:50):
That was a bit of yesterday, Kama, But I can
talk to this morning. We got to work straight away
and there was a couple of stolen vehicles from the
Parmesan Bus Exchange. We've since then recovered those vehicles. We've
arrested two offenders out of a bunch we're still looking
for the rest, and we also arrested two offenders from

(06:11):
a burglary that occurred yesterday morning at midnight yesterday at
a business in Fanny Bay, a pub down there. Yeah right,
and that was all within the first hour of this morning,
so it was a quick start.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Hit the ground running, mate. I hope you'd had a
coffee at home first, Yeah, well I had.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
One on the way and actually make normal's coffee. Yesterday
was a busy day as well. Could we had that
response to that burgery. Subsequent investigations we had to identify
those offenders led to the arrest this morning. We also
arrested three offenders yesterday, a nineteen year old, at twenty
three year old and a thirty year old for an
unlawful entry that happened at a Nightcliff pub. Earlier in

(06:53):
the week We arrested a sixteen year old for a
robbery that occurred in Crame at bottle shop on the weekend.
GDS actually arrested the first one on the weekend. They
did a great response. We followed up with a subsequent
arrest and that was both the offenders now in custody
and there was there was a search weren't done by

(07:16):
a few people in our team yesterday on a fellow
we arrested last week he was arrested for property crime
and for stolen motor vehicle offending and he's currently on
remand in prison. But we worked out where he was staying.
We executed a search, weren't at his unit in the
Darwin CBD, and we recovered a bunch of stolen property

(07:36):
and also a box of pre made malts of cocktails,
which was a strange fine but it was a good
one to get back and it's something we can use
now as intelligence for that person going forward.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Books.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
So what you know, like to to you know, someone
like me who's got no idea what you'd have a
box of Molotov cocktails for?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
What?

Speaker 1 (07:58):
You know? What would he know? So what you'd be
planning on using it for? But what would somebody have
something like that in their possession for.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I can't talk to his mindset, Katie, but generally most
people know that, you know, you throw them at things
and they set on fire. So there was a bunch
of bottles filled with different sort of flammable liquids with
little bits of fabric coming at the top or boxed
dot ready to go, and some numb chucks which was
a weird one as well, but they've all been seized.

(08:27):
Now they're going to go on to top of his
prosecution files, okay, and hopefully, you know, we can keep
an eye him from here on in.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
So that was following a search at his at where
he'd been staying after he was already in custody from
previous offending. By the sounds of USh, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Katie, just chasing our tail a bit sometimes for work.
But we got we ended up doing that search went
yesterday and it was a good find I think.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
So a box of them. Yeah, it was like a.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Probably about fifteen or sixteen in a plastic box and
it was just it's just an odd one and coupled
with the circumstances around him as well, I think it's
just a a.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Bit in relation to that, as lines inquiry still need
to be established as to why what the intention was
Trent's got that. So they're looking heavily at that.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yeah, absolutely, it is alarming. Hey, I mean with all
it sounds like you guys, I mean Trydent's always run
off their feet, right, like you guys have always got
so much going on. But in relation to so, you
said there was stolen vehicles this morning at the Palmerston
Bus Exchange.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Was that right, two of them when I left work.
That was what I understand. I'm not sure if one
was stolen from there or they were both stolen from there,
but there was definitely at least one style from there.
And we've managed through basically interrogating social media. I've got
an idea about who these people might be, and we're
able to locate the vehicles. Two of the offenders have

(09:52):
been arrested and the team are just trying to dig
into who the co offenders are and things like that.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Still active, Yeah, working quickly. Result first thing, absolutely, Yeah, absolutely,
it sounds that way. Hey, I know you'd mentioned some
of the other incidents where arrests have been made. Now,
one of the ones that really got everybody's attention over
the course of the weekend was that situation where three
male youths were arrested in relation to a number of
property offenses on Saturday. My understanding is that they started

(10:24):
out at a residence in Zicoli. They then also there
was a thirty five year old man not too far
away that was allegedly struck in the head by a rock.
Then you had a situation where there was another person
where there'd been reports or sorry another business that time.
We spoke to that business owner who was targeted on
the Stuart Highway and Berrima. I mean the list went on.

(10:45):
Then you arrested these three eleven, fourteen and sixteen. Yes,
it was.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
It was a busy one, Katie. I started getting calls
at about eleven o'clock at night on Friday, yep, and
we sort of ramped up a response from there. GDS
actually were the first ones to locate and when they
attended a robbery in Pinelands and it had a cordon
off area and eventually we brought those three in. They
were found they were one of them is still under investigation,

(11:15):
but the sixteen to eleven year old were found to
be offenders in the aforementioned defending I think everything you said,
except for maybe that rock throwing incident which is still
under investigation. During the ram rate of one of those
businesses you mentioned, I think it's out out near Pinelands
or Bram area, there was a bunch of compound bows

(11:35):
and aerostyle. So we also managed to recover two out
of the three compound bows and Holly Bavaros that was
just by continuing to engage with the family that was
assisting us with our inquiries and they produced them for us,
which it was a great result from them. Comcrudos to
them and you know that was a good recovery as well.

(11:56):
The next day we actually arrested the third offender added
up address in Parmer and that was where the second
bow and arrow was.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Yeah, right, I mean it does still seem like car
fift and you know, like that people will know youths
in a lot of cases trying to steal cars is
a major issue for the Northern Territory place. I mean,
is it still a situation where a lot of those
stolen vehicles are being taken out the West Daily region
like they had been towards the end of last year,
or what's the situation at the moment.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
That is the trend, and that was sort of the
situation this morning. But we have a few different because
we're sort of on the pulse pretty well and trident,
which is good. We have a few different groups and
a lot of those West Daily West Arms sort of
people are involved in that sort of offending going back
and forward to community and style cars and we have

(12:46):
local groups here and obviously when we arrest and they
get disrupted, and then obviously when they're released, hopefully they
get rehabilitated, but sometimes that's not the case and they
just go on to keep going. And yeah, and so
we get pretty familiar with them. Yeah, the team's really
good at identifying them pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
I'll bet you are. I'll bet you know exactly who
you're on to very often. Look, I really appreciate you
both coming into the studio this morning. Is there anything
else I should be aware of before I let you go?
I mean, there's so much that you've been out to
obviously over the course of the week.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Just tell you one more thing, Katie. It's just to
highlight how busy we've been. So this month alone, one
hundred and two arrests, one hundred and twenty six prosecutions,
and over the last three months we've had three hundred
and twenty six arrests by my account yesterday afternoon. So
we're just you know, flat flat tilted there all the time.
But I just want to highlight what we've been doing.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Oh, absolutely, and appreciated by the Northern Territory community, I
think as well, particularly if you've had your car stolen
or your home's been broken into. You want to know
that the police are out there. They're doing their best
to go and catch these people that are offending. So
I mean that goes to show that there is a
lot going on. You guys are out and about trying
to make sure that you're able to, you know, to

(14:04):
catch those that are breaking the law.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Just a final thing for me, Katie look at and
it's a bit of a plug obviously to those hard
working General Duties offices as well as tried and we've
got strikesforce viper, etcetera, lyra in DV. As you can
see from some of those statistics in some of the
w there's a lot of great work going on and
in trying to keep people safe from reduced crime. You know,
it is it is endless, but at the end of

(14:26):
the day, we'll still keep making great strides to the
people to feel safe and out in the all and territory.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Good stuff, we'll Commander David Moore and Detective Acting Senior
Sergeant Chris Humphreys. Good to catch up with you both.
Thanks so much for your time this morning. Thanks, thank you,
