Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now we know that Darwin is hosting the Australia Cup
Final Round playoffs vital preliminary fixtures of the country's largest
Daniel knockout competition. Wellington Phoenix taking on the Brisbane Raw
tonight at the Darwin Football Stadium at about seven o'clock,
and we know the Central Coast Mariner's battled Perth glory
last night. Joining us live on the line is Football

(00:23):
nt CEO Jamie Monteeth. Good morning to you, Jamie.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Good morning, how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah? Really well? Talk us through how did the game
go last night?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, it was fantastic. We had a bit of thriller
on our hands. We had the guys go tuning up,
so we had Central Coast go tuning up in the
first half. In the second half, Perth pulled it back
to two to two, went to extra time and then
we had the Perth winning on winning three two in
the end with Central Coast Mariners missing the penalty kick
in the last die minutes of the game. So it

(00:55):
was a great spectacle and I think, yeah, order the
darn On football community were in the event and Perth
obviously came out on top.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Oh, it sounds like it was an absolute cracker. Are
we expecting it to be that exciting tonight? Hopefully?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
So? Yeah, we hope. So. I mean Brisbane and Wennington
are two notoriously really strong teams, so we're looking forward
to obviously welcoming them and the teams to the don
on the Football Stadium tonight and hopefully we get to
see a simmer sort of game play out.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
So remind us how the competition works in terms of
these playoff rounds.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
So look, effectively it's based off of the old FA
Cup method in the UK. It's the opportunity for I
suppose non A league teams to have the opportunity to
go out a higher level and play against the A
League team. So effectively, each state will have their own
playoff rounds and then effectively the A League teams coming
later on in that piece which is now to create

(01:53):
the last thirty two, and then the A League teams
then will play each other or ultimatively might get the
opportunity to play a lower league team. So it's just
great for the competition for the kind of I suppose
the other teams from around the States that aren't in
the Aliens get opportunities to play against these starts of teams.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeah, it sounds like it, but it also sounds like
it's a wonderful opportunity. I mean to have games like this,
out of this caliber happening here in the Northern Territory.
Are they attracting? Are the games attracting big crowds?

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, Look, we're really pleased. I mean we just had
under two thousand people last night, and the whole point
of these games is exactly that is to bring I
suppose higher level football content to to the to the territory.
We're really pleased we've had this for this is our
third year of won this competition and we're hopefully going
to be coming out some really good news in the
coming coming months around more content for our football and

(02:47):
community of you know, for these guys to get their
get their tief around and get involved with.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
And it's such like it's wonderful for our junior soccer
players to be able to see this kind of caliber
of of football happening. In the end, I mean, you
can't be what you can't see, and I think it's
really wonderful for our young people to see that kind
of stuff to aspire to.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, look a bit a small visit a to Effington
yesterday with two of the teams going out there, and
it was great because the players that were talking to
these students were probably three or four years are older
than them. So it's really relevant to actually kind of
then talk about the pathways the opportunities that currently exist
within Australia. So I think, yeah, it is certainly that
I think it's a good opportunity for our young people

(03:30):
to aspire, to want and obviously create these role models
that allows them to have a pathway to actually play
at the highest possible standard if they do all the
right things. Obviously.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah. Well, Jamie Monteeth, CEO of Football Inte, it sounds
like you've hit the ground running mate. As the CEO,
it's all busy, busy for you.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
It is expect nothing left. It's really exciting. So if
anyone's got anyone's got spare time tonight, come down and
watch the Phoenix take on the the Raw seven o'clock
at doar In Football Stadium.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Can they buy the tickets on the gate or do
you need to purchase online beforehand?

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Now we we obviously want people to purchase online, but
say if you don't have the opportunity to do so.
We will be having the gate open for perching tickets
on the night as well.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Good stuff for football and t CEO Jamie Montez, good
to speak with you.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
This morning, brilliant appreciate your time guys.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Thank you,
