Speaker 1 (00:00):
Covering the issues that affect you every day, and only
on Mix one oh four point nine.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It is just nineteen minutes after ten o'clock. If you
want to send a message today, zero for double nine
seven double one three six zero and we are continuing
I'll Meet the Candidates series this morning. And one of
the electorates that a lot of people have been messaging
about and wanting to really know more about is the
seat of Fanny Bay. And I'm pleased to say that

(00:26):
joining us on the line right now is the incumbent member,
the Labor Party's Brent Potter get a.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Brand Good morning, Katie.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Good to have you on the show mate. You've got
seven minutes and lots of questions to get through. Are
you ready to get started?

Speaker 1 (00:41):
I am indeed.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Let's go all right, Bret. Why did you decide to
put your hand up to run again?

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yeah, Katie, we live in the electorate, kids go to
the schools in the electorate and they played the local
sporting clubs. I want to make it better for our family,
for my neighbors, for our constituents, family and friends. And
we've done a lot over two years and there's a
lot more to be done. We're seeing the change that
I promised people and they want to Can you continue
to deliver on that? Now?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Brent, what do you see as being the biggest achievement
since you've been in the role.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Hi, listen, Cardia. I think delivering on the commitments that
you promise people in an election. So the first one
I had win or lose, was to relocate to the electorate.
We've done that. We've bought with mid renovation. But more
importantly it's about the CCTV that we committed to in
the Fanny Bay shops that's now delivered and installed. We
committed ten million dollars for a new preschool, how the
demolitions commenced and will be starting construction shortly three million dollars.

(01:32):
In the Vesti's Beach Activation or Bundilla Beach Activation. I'm
told that tender has been awarded. Not familar who it
is yet, but it will start in September. You know,
due to ongoing security concerns, we implemented the prep security
patrols and I know you've got some families of local
and have seen the effects of that, but also the
security patrol at Vesty's Beach, and then we go more
widely looking at individual constituent issues by area, you know,

(01:55):
supporting the people for planning up in the gardens with
the mess that was left on the Blake Street development
and they're still going through that and they have our
supporters of government. But me, as the local member, where
the Funny Bay local liquor record. So before the territory
requirement to ask where people were consuming olcohol and where
they lived, we implemented that here in the electric to
deal with any social behavior. It's good to see that

(02:15):
carry over. But probably the biggest success and the one
I'm most proud of, is being able to do the
lollipop at Perhap School every Friday and get to have
a chance to talk to the kids, and to be honest,
kids are a great leveler in this job, so it's fantastic.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Now We've actually got a few listener questions that I'm
going to put to all of the candidates, and one
of those is in relation to the TPS security, and
Michael is wanting to know when I speak to the
different candidates, are you going to continue the TPS security
in the Perrap area. It's the only measure in the
last few years that's provided us residents with any peace Michael.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Absolutely, anyone listening that lives in the area. I can
tell you I have six commitments. The continuation of the
security patrols is one of those commitments. I delivered it
because of the issues that Michael raised. It has a
huge impact. It makes a difference, it makes the job
of police easier. That's why we've committed more money across
the territory for security patrols. But in perrap Michael, they
will continue.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Now, Brent, based on the door knocking that you do
and being out in the electra, what do you see
as being the biggest issues in the electorate.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, listen, crime and any social behavior obviously is front
of mind for everyone. It's more wider than just our electorate,
and I think people can see the work that's been
done here. We have a really robust reporting process here.
We've got a community Safety Action Plan that we've been
implementing for close to two years. But in specific to
the electorate, it's cost of living, but also a local
amenity coadie. It's about play spasis for kids and families.

(03:38):
It's interconnection about parks and recreation areas. East Point is
a huge sort of cran and the duel for local constituents.
And so that's why we've committed to increasing the East
Point conservation zoning so that we don't ever see proposed
developments there again like we have under previous governments, but
also putting money into a cane tat eradication and aversion
therapy program there to support the natural for and fauna

(04:00):
that we have at each points. So, you know, crime,
any social behavior, cost of living, and local community amenity
are the key issues. You know, We've been very clear
on what we're doing on crime, have been very clear
what I'm doing around any social behavior and crime and
the electric continuation of those patrols. But yeah, those are
the issues that we see.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Hey on the amenity and this is something that has
been raised with us Richardson Park. Is that going to
be a situation where any club is able to hire it?

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Yeah, So at the moment you can apply through DIPPLE,
there is an online booking process. There are two two
rugby clubs that have been given first preference to go
and use that as their home ground. And might escape me,
but I think it's Brothers and Poe Dragons Dragons, Brothers
and Dragons that have been offered that, but yeah, everyone
else can go and book it. I know that there's
been discussions about water bubblers. Well, there is a second

(04:47):
stage development going in now, which is the toilet block,
which we'll have those facilities, but that was a seven
million dollar project committed by Labor that we've delivered.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Hey, another quick one from a listener who has emailed
in and said, Hi, Katie, an issue with residents, particularly
those of the gardens, is rezoning of the community purpose
land for private development and profit, particularly the CP land
known as the Pint Club joining the George Brown Botanic Gardens.
It would be good to hear the views of the
candidates and their parties about the issue.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Well, thanks Sue for the question. I can tell your
listeners it was the Territory Labor government the only one
that put a written response from a party position. We
do not support the rezoning in the gardens of community
purpose land and we are absolutely in support of the
people for planning Sue and those that are interested in that.
We will not support any changes there. I know the
other parties haven't been able to commit to that in writing,

(05:37):
but I think my actions have been very clear. I've
written letters to NTCAP before on behalf of the residents
stating my support for them and not the development. We
do need to do developments across the territory, but it
needs to be in keeping with the local amenity and
also needs to be in consultation with the community. And
you can't have governments doing dirty deals with their mates,
as what happened under the twenty twelve to twenty sixteen

(05:58):
government Undertower.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Well, look, we will us more about that when we
catch up with the other candidates. We've still got about
two minutes. But another listener question Saint vinis do you
support that moving into Coconut Grove.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
I support Viny's moving I do not support it going
into Coconut Grove. What I've done for those local residents
and they're absolutely justified in their concern. Unfortunately, it is
a privately owned premises and the DCA has made a
decision external from us to approve it for two years.
I've been very clear I do not support an extension
of funding to Viny's in that location further than the

(06:28):
two year allocated by the DCA. I've also made a
local commitment to anyone on Orchard Road and the surrounding
premises that we will fence off the easement that is
currently there for power and water so people can't use
going to Vinny's getting their food or whatever the services
and then walking all the way out to the mangroves.
That will not be happening. So yeah, unfortunately it's occurring.

(06:50):
It's a DCAA decision. I don't support it. I know
the Country Liberal Party do. That's disappointing. We need the service,
we need to support people living rough but it needs
to be appropriate and this is location for it. But
we'll do it. We can.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Well, look, we are going to catch up with the CLP,
so we'll let them speak for themselves. Now, why are
you the best person.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
For the role? I live local, Katie, I understand the
local issues. I'm connected to the community, as I said,
with the kids guarding to the school, as that's been
members of the sporting clubs. I've delivered everything I've committed
to in the last two years. I think most of
my constituents would say, I'm readily available go and bve
and beyond, and i want to continue to do that.
You know a history or a career of service both

(07:28):
in the military and then out in age care and
now it's just something that I get great pleasure from,
you know, doing something for other people, delivering on your
promises and getting things done is my reward and I
love doing it, and I'd love the opportunity to continue
to serve the people at Funny Bay.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Brent another thirty seconds. I'm giving you a bit of
extra time, and I'll do the same for the others.
Because I had so many listener questions, why should people
vote for you?

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Like I've just said there, Katie. But also we're committed
to expanding on the local amenity. We're putting a million
dollars in for a prep kids pool at Prap, getting
those basketball courts behind the pool activates the kids can
get active, expanding the conservation saying at each point, getting
the war retars certainty on their leasing arrangements that the
warratar's oval and then continuing those security patrols. I think

(08:12):
my proofs in the pudding Coatie for the last two years.
You can't fix everything straight away, but I made a
commitment to address on any social behavior crime. We're doing that,
but it's now about expanding on the community Amenity're making
a better place to live for family, seniors and young kids.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Brent Potter, Well, we ended up at about seven minutes thirty.
I'll give the others the same amount of time. Like
I said, we had so many listener questions for this electro.
We didn't receive the same volume of listener questions for
all the others, but mate, yea they are. Thank you
for your time this morning, and no doubt, talk to
you soon.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Thanks Codie, thank you.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
That is Brent Potter there, the Labor Party candidate and
the current incumbent for the seat of Fatty Bay, coming
your way.
