Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now, we mentioned yesterday a go fund Me page for
the family of Jet Jones has been started. He tragically
lost his life in a quad bike accident earlier this
week at Darwin River. Now we've been told that Jet
was a cherished part of the Lichfield local football family.
He loved the game and even had his boots ready
for next season. Now, whether he was holding strong in
(00:22):
defense or bravely stepping up as goalie, Jet played with passion,
with courage and a spirit that lifted everyone around him.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
His team have said that he was the kind of
teammate who.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Made others feel valued, supported and seen. His loss is
felt deeply by all who knew him. Now, during this
unimaginable time, the community is rallying support to really try
to help Jet's family. And we've got the club president
on the line right now, Charlie Milady.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Good morning, Charlie.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Good morning, Katie, thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Thank you so much for your time. Charlie.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
How is the club and the community and Jet's family
going at this point?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I suppose they're going as expected here when a tragedy
like this takes place, you know, it's just tragically sad
for everybody involved. It's a parent's worst nightmare, and I
wouldn't want to imagine how how the family are feeling.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
I feel exactly the same as you. You know, it
is every parent's w was nightmare. My son is around
about that age. I'm sure you've probably got kids around
about that age, and it is just utterly heart wrenching.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah, it is, you know, in a time like this,
you know, it's so important for us as a club
and a community to really rally around around the family
and his loved ones, you know, the mb together at
this time.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yes, sport On, I mean, Charlie, I read out part
of the post that the Litchfield Footage Club posted talking
about Jet. What kind of little fellow was he?
Speaker 3 (02:11):
He was always happy to be there. You know, he's
very well loved by his teammates and he coaches. He
just really made it a good time for everybody else
that was with him. You know, the other kids were
you know, not sort of having the best day or
not really wanting to be there. He just made it
(02:31):
fun and really just rallied everybody in the team.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
So yeah, I mean, when such a young person loses
their life, it does impact the whole community. But it
also for kids, it can be a really difficult thing
to understand. I imagine that the club is really just
you know, you're putting your arms around each other at
this point to try and support the kids and the
other families.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah. Look, we actually had the had his under eleven
team and as well as some of the under twelves.
They all trained together come down to the club the
other night and I was led by their coaches, Melon,
Kaylee and look, I I've never been prouder to be
part of this club seeing seeing how they facilitated that
(03:22):
that gathering. They you know, the kids came down with
their with their families and you know, their parents pulled
up some camp chairs and picnic rugs and the kids
just they all kicked off their shoes and went and
had a kick on the on the oval and you
know just watching, you know, Mel and Kaylee just getting
involved in laughing, and it was it was beautiful. But
(03:43):
we we we got them some pizzas and then they
sat down and you shoved the pizzas in and have
a laugh and sat down and shared some memories of
debts and like it was got goose I'm talking about
it now. It was it was real special and you know,
I know his family would have been, you know, really
(04:06):
proud to hear the nice things that they were a
fair and it was just it was beautiful to see
the kidually being brave and strong and but but sharing
their sharing their grief and honoring his memory and talking
about everything that they loved about him and I love
about him, Charlie.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
That's a beautiful thing for the club to do, and
a beautiful thing for all of those kids and their
families to be able to do. And you know, like
we said earlier, I can't imagine how Jit's family is
feeling at this point in time, but I hope that
they take some comfort from that that, you know, that
all those little ones they're together honoring their boy.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, and I think that's, you know, from the club's perspective, that's,
you know, all we can really do is come together
and have that time to you know, to grieve and
to celebrate his his life. And yeah, so that's what
we're really just I'm hoping we can do. And I
thow they're wanting to help him practical way to the family,
(05:09):
like right now, like that grief would just be overwhelming.
So we're just trying to do what we can on
the on the practical side of things to alleviate those
those things that they don't need to worry about.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
So you're set up, you've set up a fundraiser.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Tell us a little bit about where people can find
that fundraiser and what you're hoping to do with that.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, look, we've got a go fund me page. It's
on our Richward Football Club page. I have shared it
around some of the community pages, particularly out in the
rural area. Really, I suppose it's hope that will alleviate
some of the financial pressures that will inevitably come with
this tragic loss. You know, obviously there's a lot of
(05:57):
costs that are involved, but you know, the family won't
be able to work as they was. He was injured
also in the accident. I know they have a lot
of extended family that's gown up to from interstate when
his mum, I suggets mum is from Thailand and hers
and family is there so quite isolated. So perhaps they
(06:22):
could use some of the funding to help bring some
family here to help connect and group together. But really
just giving them that flexibility to use the money to
help them do what they need to.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Do at this time, Charlie, I know there's going to
be people listening this morning that want to help that,
they want to wrap their arms around Jet's family and
try their best to help them. At this point in time,
where is the best place for them to go? Should
they try and find you guys on Facebook? What should
they do?
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Yeah, yeah, that's that's the best place to go. On
the Lectorld Football club page. I could or if they
search in the growth fundly as well, so that well,
I'll just actually get the name up for that. But yeah,
they search up Jet Jones on gofund me, they should
be able to find that. If they do have.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Facebook, will they actually we share it as well on
our Facebook page so that people are able to find
it nice and easily and support his family. Do you
have any idea what kind of how much you're hoping
to get to in terms of helping them, how much
you'd financially like to raise.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Well, look, I wasn't quite sure what would be realistic.
You know, I had for the hope that we'd get
at least ten grand, and we're nearly at thirteen grand
at the moment. So look, I think if we if
we could raise you up to twenty grand I think
that would be fantastic, really, Paul them, that would be
great to really alleviate those pressures that that are and
(07:53):
everybody and every would be coming just to yeah we
is that's that's for them at the moment.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Spot on, Like just any way that you can help
that little family, which I think is a really great
thing to do. Charlie, thank you so much for speaking
to us this morning.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
I know it's not an easy.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Thing to do when you know, when a club, when
a family, when when parents such suffer from such a
profound loss.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
So I really appreciate.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Your time this morning and your strength to be able
to talk about little Jet and and let us know
more about him and to help his family.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah, I really really appreciate your time and letting us
to share the message and yeah, just celebrating Jet's life.
And again it's just cart goes out to his family
and his friends that oversit the club and in school
and his family. Just sending lots of love to all
of them, and just knowing that the club is here
(08:54):
for any anybody that wants to reach out to support
where they need what to connect with services to help
navigate this time. I just want to chat. Please know
you can reach out to the club directly and we'll
be here to support anyone that needs that help.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Good on you, Charlie. Thank you so much for speaking
to us this morning. I really appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Yeah, my pleasure. Thank you, thank you,
