Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are continuing our discussions with some of the people

(00:03):
who've put their hand up to be the mayor of Litchfield. Now,
they've each got about six minutes to answer a series
of questions, and joining us on the line right now
is one of the other candidates, Rachel Reich. Good morning
to you, Rachel.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Good morning Katie. How are you today?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yeah, really good. Good to have you on the show now, Rachel,
six minutes, a few of my questions and a few
listener questions. Are you ready to get started?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Absolutely? I look forward to any opportunity to talk to
the members of my community.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Good stuff. Well, let's go, all right, Rachel. Why have
you decided to put your hand up to be meyor.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Well? I have lived in Lichfield for decades. My family
spans multiple generations in Lichfield, from elderly parents to young children,
to siblings, nieces, nephews, even a few grandnieces and nephews.
The age range for all of my family in Lichfield

(00:59):
ranges between the eighties all the way through to I
think the youngest family member is one years old. And
for me, it's really trying to represent the full demographics
and all of the demographics of the people that live
in the community that I live in and I love.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Now, in terms of your qualifications or work experience, what
qualifications or work experience do you have which you think
make you best placed for the position.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
So my day job profession, I've devoted twenty two years
of experience to human services. So I've worked for Northern
Territory government, I've worked for not for profits. I've worked
for charity. I come from human resources and human services

(01:53):
background and I'm an executive in a large charity and
I over the high impact service delivery across housing, age care, homelessness,
emergency release for the top end. And so outside of
my day job, because I love Lichfield so much, I

(02:16):
have devoted a big portion of my life to I
serve as a Lichfield counselor. I sit on the Litchfield
Risk ord At and Compliance Committee. I also sit on
the Lichfield Development Consent Authority to make sure that all
of the development approval that's going through Lichfield meets with

(02:42):
the way it should. I also have sat on the
Lichfield Women in Business Committee, and I chair the Knuckies
Lagoon Reserve Community Committee. And on top of that, I
have three beautiful children who have all been active in
all of the reserves and go to have gone to schools.

(03:04):
Well two of them still go to school in Lichfield
and so I've pretty much they've been involved in every
part of the community for decades.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Rachel, what are your top three commitments to voters?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Well, I would probably say my number one top commitment
is let's keep rates low. So I come from a
very financially conservative background and I'm good at managing money,
and we've really pulled the budget in line since I've

(03:45):
been on counsel to make sure that we got back
to basics and we identified where we actually needed to
spend money. And so for me, strengthening our financial reserves
and keeping rates low is my number one. My second

(04:06):
one is invest in infrastructure and community facilities. And I
sort of feel like we've been a little bit of
a one trick pony for a while now and all
we've focused on is roads, roads, roads. And you've got
to know your demographic, and Lichfield has quite a demographic,

(04:28):
and it's covering from all the way up at northward,
which is Holps and Kuwandy, and we need to look
at our changing demographic and our evolving demographic and the
ages of the people and the needs of the people.
So I think we need to also focus on some
of the not just roads, because roads are very important

(04:50):
and that will still be a big agenda, but we
also need to focus on our reserves and focus on
community facilities and social infrastructure as well. And so number
three is a strong and inclusive future focused leadership. I

(05:13):
think currently Council, even though I think we as a team,
we've done a really good job, but we haven't really
had much innovative vision, and I think there's a big
opportunity for improvement in vision and having a strong, inclusive,

(05:37):
future focused leadership. So that's my number three.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Rachel, we've got just over a minute. Are you a
member of a political party or have you ever been?

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I'm not a member of a political party. That in
twenty twenty I ran for the seat of Gooida because
I love literally not so much and I joined Territory
Alliance and that doesn't exist anymore. And the reason why
I chose that was because it was sort of aligned
with my values, which was kind of center right all

(06:09):
right now, but I'm no longer part of that.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
No fair enough, all right? Well, we've got about twenty
seconds left, but probably a little bit longer. I gave
the other candidates slightly longer because we had some listener questions.
Now one of them was, do counsel have any plans
to completely take over the operation of Fred's Pass Reserves?

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Not if I'm at the helm, because I believe that.
So I'm a big believer that community have to have
skin in the game, and the volunteers at Fred's Path
have devoted their heart and soul into it for generation
and that's why it's so fantastic. And I wouldn't recommend

(06:52):
that Lichfield Council take over Fred's Pass Reserve at all.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Now I've got about thirty second kens. The other question
that we've been asking is where do you see the
future of Fred's Past Show. There has been some discussion
about whether it's going to be relocating to Livingstone Reserve,
So where do you see the future of Fred's Pass Show?

Speaker 2 (07:17):
I believe it should remain at Fred's Pass And I
actually was quite surprised when I heard you mentioned that
when you were talking to the other candidates. And this
is the thing, there hasn't been open and transparency. Today
was the first time I even heard that was on
the table. Yeah, look, it's something disappointed.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
We've been contacted about by one of our listeners, so
we'll try and get in contact with the fred's past
show organizers and find out what the goal is. But
yeahs it is obviously something that a few people are
concerned about. But look, Rachel, that's about seven minutes fifteen,
so I think we've been fair with everybody. We've gone
over a little bit of time. But I really appreciate
you having a chat with me this morning and letting

(07:57):
us know why you've decided to put your hand up.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Thank you so much, Katie, take care.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Thank you.
