Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, interesting news in the Northern Territory News or report
by Nathaniel Chambers saying that's well, the NRL and t
are proposing to open a new rugby league club next
year in one of the top end's largest growth areas.
Now joining us live on the line is nrlnt's general
manager Tony Crow. Good morning to your Tony.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Good morning Katie, Good morning listeners.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Tony, this sounds like exciting news. Another footy club whereabouts
and when's it going to kick off?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Well, let's not propose. We're on target to take off
for junior aber leg out at Livingston Livingston Recreation Reserves.
So we've had some really good ongoing conversations and meetings
with the committee out there who have been one hundred
percent supportive of their objective here and particularly we're going
to build from the ground up what all junior rugby

(00:51):
league club should and we're going to start with our
modified age groups under six us through to under twelve.
So exciting times, but we're probably trying to get ahead
of the game because we see this region in particular
a massive growth therein. But what we want to do,
it's not about grabbing the kids that are already playing
our game and involved with the list fial Bears. This

(01:13):
is more about the kids that are then Adelaide River
or further south, or the kids out at coxs Peninsula,
Bachelor and that type of stuff that don't have easy
access to our game. So exciting times. And we'll have
a club out at Livingston in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
On Strange Yeah, right, so all going ahead, it's looking
as though you're doing the work with who are you
working with out there to really get this off the
ground and get it cracking for the juniors for next season.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah, As I said, Livingston Recreation Reserve Committee, Rob Cowd
and the team out there, we've met recently with some
plans in place. Our first engagement will be come and
try information sharing night out there on Friday, the seventh
of November. We'll do some for an hour or so.
We'll do some kids come and tries and skills with
our gain development teams. Most important in that space too.

(02:05):
We're bringing touch football along with us in your face
and we're looking to set up a club that can provide,
you know, doing activity for the community twelve months of
the year. So we'll play rugby league during the dry
season up here and then we'll do some touchable stuff,
particularly the in the off season. So we're excited. We're
getting a lot of great positive feedback and particularly on

(02:28):
the ground out there. So it's community rugby league and
the key is going to be that we identify eight
to ten people that want to jump in and make
a difference out of the Livingston Recreation Reserve.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Tony, when you look at the numbers sort of out
in the rural area and you know that Greater Darwin region,
have you got quite a bit of involvement when it
comes to footy out that way, and you know you'd
sort of touched on the fact that you're not trying
to you know, to steal players from from the other teams.
This is more trying to engage kids that maybe aut

(03:00):
already playing.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, this has been a strategy of ours under my administration.
You know this year we've introduced football and got a
footprint now at Alco Island. The last eighteen months we've
been working hard in Nullenboy with god United and we're
now looking at Groot Island now to come on board
in that East Artam. On the back of that, we're

(03:22):
working pretty hard with Our Springs Brothers down there. You know,
traditionally we haven't had a lot of junior Roby League
and our Springs, but we've now got one hundred and
twenty juniors running around down there off the back of
some great work by the Alla Springs Brothers Volunteer Committee.
So yeah, like I said, we're just trying to make
our game more accessible and we're actually taking the game
to where the people are instead of expecting people to

(03:45):
have to drive long distances to be involved in our game.
And there's no greater example of that than Livingston. Because
if the bees Creek Show I think moving towards going
to be the Lidfield Show is moving out to Livingston
Recreation Reserve, well, we're going to take Rugy League and
touch football out there too.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Well, I reckon it's a good thing. You know, the
more kids that you can get playing footy, I mean,
the more people in general that you can get involved
in sport, I think is a good thing. But when
you look at those juniors, it's such a wonderful way
to keep kids engaged, you know, to keep them out
of trouble when they're playing sport. It can only be
a positive.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
We stand by the fact that it's our ultimate gap.
Our ultimate aim here as an organization is to help
kids be the best they care be. The better they
are off the field, the way better they're going to
be on the field, and it's most importantly they're offield.
Behaviors are basically the stuff that we live in Breeze
and most importantly around that, we've got to make sure
that we provide a fun and safe environment and if

(04:44):
we get that right, they'll keep coming back, and most
importantly they'll bring their friends back and they'll bring their
families back. A huge focus for us.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Tony, for anybody out there listening that does live in
the living Stonaria and beyond and they're thinking, yep, I'll
be keen to get my kids in. Where can they
go for a bit further info at this stage, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
You can most importantly jump onto the NROLNT social media
pages or website. We've got a QR code there now
that people can electronically express their interest. And then, like
I said, we've got our first engagement session out there
on the seventh of November and that'll be followed by
our first committee. I don't want to use the word committee, dammit,

(05:25):
working group together on the nineteenth of November to really
get the ball rolling.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Well, Tony, good to catch up with you this morning.
Thanks so much for your time, No thank.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
You, Katie. Continued support of mixt one and four point
nine and yourself is greatly appreciated. And let's hope the
tongue that can get a win on the weekend.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Katie, We're hoping. So I tell you what I'm spewing
watching the game on the weekend. You don't want to
live near me when you know when there's a game
that my family's involved in, because I get a bit heightened,
that's for sure. Tony, get fired up, mate, fired up
to put it. Thank you, good to catch up with you.
Thanks so much.
