Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now the NT City to Surf. It's on again next

(00:03):
month and organizers are hoping for another record breaking year.
Last year a massive two eight hundred and ninety seven
people took part That was nine hundred more than the
year prior, with interest growing from locals and indeed interstate Entrance.
Now joining us on the line is the events executive officer,

(00:23):
lean Chen.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Good morning to.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
You, Good morning Katie. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Yeah, very well, and of course the executive officer of
Athletics here in the Northern Territory, Leanne remind us of
what is involved in the city to serve which distances
people can take party.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
We have the twelve point five kilometer run starting on
the Esplanad, finishing a night with the four kilometer run
or walk, and of course our one point six kilometer
MACS mile.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
And how many people so last year about twenty eight
hundred and ninety seven peak. Have you had plenty of
registrations so far?

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Absolutely. We decided to open registrations a little bit earlier
for the twenty twenty five event, so we opened them
in December. So you know what a way to start
the year with gifting your partner or entry into the
city to SERF, so we opened them a little bit
earlier and we've seen a steady growth online with last year,

(01:31):
so entries to just probably about thirty minutes ago were
about twenty one hundred and fifty people, so we really
are on track for another bumper year.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Well, we know that the people of Darwin usually register
for things late as well, so absolutely, I reckon you
probably have a busy week.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
When do people need to have registered by?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Okay, So registrations are open until Saturday next week three pm.
There'll be no on the day registrations this year, so
don't wrap up on the morning of thinking that you'll
be able to get registered. That's a really important message
to get out this year.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
So do not rock up on the morning thinking that
you're going to be able to register. You've got to
do it beforehand, Ley and what's the best way to
do it. And I know that everybody always needs to
try and get their bibs beforehand as well.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Absolutely, so we'll be doing bib pick up from a
double Tree by Hilton on Friday and Saturday next week,
so we really encourage people to come down from eleven
am on Friday and nine am on Saturday next week
to pick up their bibs nice and early. If they're

(02:50):
coming on the morning of, just make sure you're giving
yourself plenty of time to get to pick up your
bib on the morning. It's always nice to come in
on a Saturday, pick up your bib, stay in town
for lunch and then prep for the run on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Absolutely, Leanne tell us is the is the track the
route the same as what it was last year?

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Has there been any changes.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
There's been a very slight modification to the to the track.
We're still going up unfortunately, we're still going up down
High Hill. We've still got that really long steep climb
up to Fanny Bay. Still going around the back of

(03:40):
Nightcliff Willies, but once you sort of get past Wallies
and why have you? We're actually going onto the road
this year. So so we're finishing on the road. We're
hoping it'll be a more spectacular finish, you know, a
wider finish, so rather than being on the bike path

(04:00):
really narrow, hopefully let feel the way, Oh.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
You can sprint finishes and for people to.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Oh, I think I think we will. I think we will.
But you know, the other thing is we're to ensure
everybody's well being. On course, we've got an extra aid
station this year. We're going to have Wicked Energy are
going to provide some hydration and electrolytes on course, so
if you're feeling a little bit weary, make sure you

(04:32):
grab some water or some electrolytes. On course an extra
aid station too, as in first aid. So again we're
really encouraging people to make sure they hydrate the day
before and the late days leading in to make sure
that everybody has a great experience.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
And leand for those that aren't running the twelve point
five for those that want to go a little bit
short of four kilometers or the Macas Mile for kids.
Is that all in the same location as last time
round last year?

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yes, definitely. We're still at the beautiful Nightcliff Foreshore, but
our events have a slightly different start time. So the
four k run we'll start at six point fifty, the
walk will start at seven am. They'll start on the
road and make their way onto the bike track at

(05:25):
the Nightcliff Jetty so and then again everyone will come
back and finish on the road.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
How great now, Leanne in terms of you know, people
catching buses and whether they should drive to Nightcliff.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
What's your advice for them?

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Okay, so in twenty twenty five we are offering a
free bus, but this is only post event, so we're
really encouraging everybody to in the twelve and a half
kilometer event, park in the city and jump on the
free bus or a rain maybe carpool to get into

(06:04):
town in the morning, so that you know, we're trying
to reduce the congestion of cars in that Nightcliff area.
Those guys have so many amazing events and you know,
let's for one day give the residents a little bit
of a break for cars. Of course, we can't stop
that for the four kilometer event, they start and finish there.

(06:27):
But yeah, for the twelve and a half k park
in town and catch the bus back. Buses will start
from eight point thirty and run roughly every ten to
fifteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Well, Leanne So anybody out there listening that hasn't registered,
they can still jump online and do so.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Can't they?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Absolutely? Registrations are still open, as I said, they'll be
open till three pm on the thirty first of May
and get registered. Because our prizes this year have jumped up,
so we're looking forward to that information going out this weekend.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Good stuff for lean Chin. Always great to catch up
with you. I know it's going to be a wonderful
event it always is. And yeah, wonderful. Crack the three
thousand people this.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Year, well we do, We actually do have a cap
of three thousand people.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
So only three thousand.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yes, we don't want to get caught out with not
enough metals and not enough items to hand out at
the end.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
That's awesome, that'd be an awesome number.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
It were a nice round number, I.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Agree, Leanne.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Lovely to catch up with you. Thanks so much for
your time and good luck for the week. I know
it'll be a busy time.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
For you all.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Fantastic Thanks Katie, thank you, thank you,
