Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well towards the end of the show yesterday, we learned
that the police were seeking information following an aggravated burglary
that had occurred in the vicinity of an industrial area
in Catherine East over last weekend. So about eight am
on Saturday, the eleventh of October, the police received a
report that two buildings, including an armory at a government facility,

(00:21):
were unlawfully entered by four unknown offenders. Now joining us
on the line to tell us a little bit more
into emergency services, Catherine and Central Region Operations Officer Dave Travor.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Good morning, Dave, Good morning Katie. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yeah, really good, lovely to have you on the show. Now, Dave,
talk me through what happened at the n test building.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Apparently these offenders have enentered the building, you know, broken
in and you know, just rifled through anything and everything
that they could get their hands onto, damaged, you know,
some of the the vessels and in our vehicles. So

(01:05):
we're just going through re establishing what they've trying to
work out what they've taken, you know, and they've taken
frontline equipment of how volunteers.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Oh mate, what kind of impact is that? Then going
to have. What impact has it had first off, over
the last sort of week or so, and what impact
is it going to have ongoing?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Well, the impact is you know, the availability for our
volunteers to respond in the timely manner and with the
correct equipment to whatever the community needs, you know, and
we can do you know, you know the vast variety
of emergencies that we respond to, you know, and so

(01:48):
these guys have taken frontline equipment. There is a whole
list that you know, we've got to go and replace
at our expense. And also some of them that has
been taken as the equipment that have volunteers have sourced
through generous community grants as well.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Tell me more about you know about the equipment, the
frontline equipment that they have damaged or taken.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
You know, it's stuff along the lines of the New
Milwaukee for example. You know all the cordless tools, you know,
lighting equipment, you know all of that. It's just is
a great list emergency lighting off even off their vessels
and of our vehicles.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
I mean that like that is so frustrating as well,
because you think to yourself, you know, even with your
with your tools, that that's the tools of the trade
for you guys, you're out there, you're trying to help
people with the you know, with the trees and things
like that, when there's flooding, when there's you know, a
weather events. So it's actually a huge impact for end
tests absolutely.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
You know the volunteers are you know, speechless.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yeah, in terms of you know, what they've stolen and
the damage that they've done. Is the like, have you
got sort of a monetary value on it or is
it a bit too early to tell as you're going
through everything.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, it's too early for us because we are to
take some of the equipment's got to be sourced, you know,
from around the end and you know, the worst case,
depending on where we can get it from me have
to come from inter state. So it's not something I
can walk into the shop and repurchase tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Yeah. Well, and from my understanding as well, based on
what the police had said yesterday that the breaking also
included an armory, Well, I mean what was taken from there?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
That is we're not sure about that. That's a different department,
different building. Yeah, right, so that's up to them.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, fair cool, Dave. In terms of you know, these offenders,
was there anything captured on cc TV or did you guys,
you know you have you got much much info that
has been able to be passed on to the police.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
The video footage that the police have received some video
footage and like what was released, they've they've got, you know,
some footage of you know, four males. Well they deemed
us mail because you know they there was at one
a m. In the morning.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
It's hard to see sometimes in those in the vision,
isn't it.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's right. So you know they're they're
ongoing dealing with what they've got to deal with, and
we all know what the workload that they have. This
is this and this is actually not our first time
in recent months that this has happened to.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Us, right, so what else has happened in recent months?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Well, in the in the June we got hit and
similar stuff was taken. You know, it's it's not the
first time. So small community, somebody knows that. Absolutely, Please
please contact the police on the relevant contacts, you know
one three one or the one.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Eight hundred Dave from your perspective and certainly from you
know all the volunteers perspective there in Catherine at ntes
I mean, what kind of impact is this going to
have on you guys as we are about to enter
you know, the wet season, the cyclone season. We're all
trying to get prepared and I imagine you guys have
been doing heaps to try and get prepared.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Yeah, well that they have, and that that won't stop
their dedication to get well preparedness. You know they will still.
You know, it's nice to have the good equipment to
respond to emergencies, but you know, instead of having all
the you know, the decent blood lights and that if

(05:48):
they've got to do it by torch light, they'll do
it by torchlight.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Well, if there is one thing I know about the
NTES volunteers, everybody there, you guys will get it done
no matter what.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah. So you know, like you said, the wet seasons
just started, and you know the volunteers are ready to go,
and it doesn't matter if you know to them, they'll
just they'll go. And our volleys from Catherine, there's such
a great dedicated group they will go. We cover it
from Catherine. We cover all the central regions and you

(06:19):
know all the big rivers from border to border.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Well, yeah, Dave, I'm so sorry to hear that this
has happened to you. Guys. I just think it's such
ordinary behavior when you're worrying about this kind of thing.
But a big shout out to all the inter screw
down in Katherine and all those volunteers. I know they
do a phenomenal job and and love what they do.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah, and they do. You know, without them, you know,
where are we going to be anyone out there once
they have a crack at You know, it doesn't matter
what shape or form you're in, the experience, doesn't matter.
If you want to have a crack, come and join us.
You know, we're always after more members.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
All good stuff. Well, Dave, lovely to speak to you
this morning. I really appreciate your time.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Cotie, thank you,
