Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now it's all exciting in here in the studio because
joining me in the studio is dog Operations un at
Sergeant Stephen Dalrymple.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning to you, Steve.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Good morning Cody and listeners.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
And you bought friends this morning. You've also got Senior
Constable Harry Vincent. Good morning to you.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Harry, morning Cody.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
And I've also.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Got in here Senior Constable Riley Collins, Good morning to you, Riley.
Lovely to have you all in the studio. But then
I've also got patrol dog. Jack's, not to be confused
with Axe or Drax Jax.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Now Jack's. The last time Jackson is in the studio
on Pierry Street, he disgraced himself. He took a poo
and I never recovered from it. Steve, I laughed for
about half an hour straight.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
I know he's really sad that that's the thing that's
really forefront in your mind, But that's all right.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
He is absolutely beautiful. He's turned into a Woolly's.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Massive mini dras.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
He's mini drags and he's shiny coat. These police dogs,
I want to know what you feed them, because they're
like they've got the most beautiful coats.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Some of them sit at the table with us.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Now, Now, who is Jacksie's handler? That's me, that's you.
Now tell me Harry what what type of dog is?
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Is he?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Good boys?
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Most of the time. He's a good boy. He's a
he's a German Shepherd. He's almost two years old. He's
a patrol dog.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
He is, and he's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Now how as he he's he and acts are very
soon going to be completing there.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Well, they're going to be graduating, aren't they.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Yeah, so we're going to be graduating I think officially
on the.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
And so Riley, you've got Axe, yes, and his acts.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
A good dog as well, behaving to me?
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Is he.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Steve talkers through the kind of training that they have
to do. You know that not only the dog handlers
have to obviously conduct with the patrol dogs, but the
kind of training the patrol dogs. Mate.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Look, one of the things that we do spend a
lot of time with his control. And obviously you can
see the level of control of Harry's his dog right now,
but normally it's very very good. We've we've got a
really exciting time at the moment. We've got Ax and
Jack's about to graduate. The breeder. She's bringing up at
the same time two more pups that are going to
(02:26):
enter our program. And unfortunately, when one of the dogs
get a little bit old, there's time to retire. And
that's Harry's other dog.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
So, Harry, how long have you.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Had FITZI I've had him about four and a half
years now.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
And what's it like then when he retires?
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Does he does he stay with you or does he
go to like does he go to another family?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
What happens with the police dog?
Speaker 4 (02:48):
And he's going to retire with me, He's going to
stay home with the kids, going to chase tennis balls
now intead of chasing crooks.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yes, I mean, like, the fact is these are they
are working dogs. They work bloody hard as well. You know,
they're out there catching criminals when they're doing the wrong thing,
and it takes a heck of a lot of training.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Doesn't that stay?
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Absolutely? Absolutely? But with their training and things like that,
you've got to remember that they do need to sit
in the amount of downtime as well. Life's got to be
fun for them. Fitzy, He'll go off to Greenda Pastors
and have a lot of fun with Harry and the family,
but the boys, you know, when the dogs aren't working,
it's about having fun and keep them engaged.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, it's really interesting then to hear, you know, like
with a lot of the police dog, with a lot
of the police dogs, but also a lot of the
handlers you guys. I mean, we know that our police
officers are part of the community.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
You guys have.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Families of your own. But to hear the way that
the police dogs can go from you know, working they're
out on the street obviously catching people when they're doing
the wrong thing, and then they're at home with the kids,
they're behaving themselves. They're part of the family. Do they
sit up at the dinner table and eat as well,
Riley or what?
Speaker 3 (03:55):
They never tell me that when they do that. But
that's one of the unofficial things.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
But oh, does Steve Maker is it? Does Steve make
the dogs have to really behave themselves in not a lot.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
I think it's more about worrying about what handlers they're
worrying about the dogs. The dogs very easy, but when
it comes to personalities it becomes a bit difficult.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
How big a boost is it going to be for
the Northern Territory Police Force though, in all honesty to
have these two police dogs be able to graduate and
get out there fighting crime. And then, like you said,
you've got two more puppies that are coming to the NT.
There are they drags, these babies as well.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
They are.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Indeed, Jesus's been busy.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
You can imagine what he's been up to. That's what
I mean. He's got to have some fun time and
he's down time and that's what he's.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Been up to.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
But no, we're all good. Look, it's really really exciting,
especially for the people in all the springs because this
is probably going to be the first time for a
while that they're going to have three operational portrayal dogs.
We've got another handler in Ella Springs, Adam Donaldson, who's
training Obie at the moment, and pretty much by in
the next couple of months as well, he'll be operational.
(05:03):
So there should be three fully operational dogs in Olla Springs.
And as you can see the chap beside me as well,
he's got es dudes is undergoing his training. He hasn't
come along as quick as maybe the others, but I'm
fairly confident that he will get across the board and
then mud Crabb will end up coming on board.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Mud Crab is another police officer that's standing in the
studio and trying his best to not have to stand
next to a microphone. Hey, now, tell me in terms
of the work that these well that the two most
recent JAX and AX, have they been involved in some
different incidents recently as well? I know that they're still
(05:46):
obviously graduating, but as there's some work that they've been
involved in recently that our listeners might be aware of
or know a bit about.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
No, not really really.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
What's happened is we've gone through all the let's say,
the classroom and in in house train and now it's
time for them to graduate and then step out in
the street. And they'll still do that as a apprenticeship phase,
so to speak, so they will be introduced slowly into
certain situations before they tackle some serious crooks.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Do you get them one of those special hats that
they get to graduate.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Here, I'll get them whatever they need.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
You bought you brought me in a bloddy pooh bag
forum today too.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Well, I thank you all so very much for joining
us in the studio. I always love hearing.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
What the patrol dogs are up to and yeah, I
think it's good to know.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
I know a lot of our listeners will be pleased
to hear that they are going to be out there
and working hard in the community. I reckon our listeners
in Alice Springs will be really pleased to hear that too,
I hope so.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
I reckon so.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Sergeant Stephen Dell Rymple, thank you so very much, and
dog Handler's Senior Constable Harry Vincent and Senior Constable Riley Collins,
and of course patrolled Oh mud Crab over in the
corner I was going to say, and Jack's as well,
thank you all so much for your time this morning.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Thanks
