Speaker 1 (00:00):
Over the weekend. Unfortunately, well, friend of the show, Ruth
Palmer had her golf buggy. Buggy stolen. Now it's the
fifth to be stolen as I understand it in the
area in two weeks, with you breaking into yards with
bolt cutters and taking off with the golf carts. Now
Ruth joins us on the line.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Good morning, Ruth, Good morning Katie.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Now Ruthie, usually we're talking property, but today unfortunately, Yeah,
tell us what had happened over the weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, so my alarms were going off on the cameras
and he sort of I'm away at the moment, Hubby's home.
But we had six us in our backyard, no, just
having a chat, you know, just sitting there. And they
came prepared because they had angle grinder bolt cutters and

(00:50):
they've sliced open our back fence and basically rolled the
buggy out and taken it for a joy ride all
over the Durac the golf course there. So, oh my god. Yeah,
and not the best no, And look.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
You know, I know that there's plenty of people that
you know, even over the weekend, someone was held up
at knife point in Wolagi, so we know that there's
terrible stuff that continues to happen. So to some the
golf buggy being stolen may not sound as bad, but
at the end of the day, it's people in your yard,
and it sounds like it's something that's you know, they've

(01:23):
got form doing over recent weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, that's right. And you know, I look at you know,
the Facebook community pages and from what I can see,
you know, people trying to take them from the golf club.
There's been multiple fests of buggies in the last two weeks.
As you said, I know of five, but they're all
going in and just cutting open people's back fences. It's
an easy target, these golf buggies. But you know when

(01:47):
you've got a back fence that someone is actually cutting open,
not even a gate, like they're actually cutting the fence
apart to just drag your buggy out, which is going
to go flat after an hour anyway, it doesn't make sense.
So it was dumped in a bunker full of water,
Like the bunker's water got water in it because of
the rain, so it's drowned. And yeah, your golf clubs everywhere,

(02:10):
and but yeah, it's just yeah to disgrace, so.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Ruthie are they like with the other ones that have
been stolen as well and with yours. So by the
sounds of it, after it's stolen, runs out a battery,
they dump it and then it's rule so then it
can't be.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Used again, exactly. And we were just really lucky that
we know the caretakers so they actually got it on
the law like their club mooer and just yeah, dragged it,
dragged it back for us. But yeah, yeah, like it's
just one of those things. You know, you want to
have some nice things, but then you know you can't
have nice things.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
But the thing is you work bloody hard for those
nice things as well, you know, like this is this
is the point as so many of us do, you know,
and and we all you know, we work hard, You
pay your taxes, you do the right thing, you contribute
to you know, to the community. And then when you
have I don't even know what to call them, little
thugs coming and cutting the fence in that way, it's

(03:05):
an invasion of your privacy and your space as well.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, exactly, we've got chickens in our yard now, just
pushing the chickens off the buggy, you know, like just
just like they own the place. You know, it's really disappointing.
But the fact that they weren't wearing any gloves, like
they weren't covering their faces. You know, all the videos
I've got is it very clearly shows who these people are. Oh,
very easily identifiable. But they're just just haven't chatted between

(03:32):
each other and they don't roll the buggy out, not
at all.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
So Ruth's at least five taken in your area over
the last couple of weeks. What you know, what's sort
of been the update from the police. Do they know
who these thugs are?

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I think that's probably a fair idea because it is
from what I understand, it is the same group getting around.
So my buggy was seen with six of them hanging
off of it, and then the CCTV footage I've seen
of others it is it is a similar kind of group,
and you can some of them are pretty just easy
to distinguish between the videos. So yeah, they're definitely aware

(04:09):
and hopefully can be caught soon rather than later.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Absolutely, well, let us know what else. You're here out
your way, and you know, if there is any update, Ruthie,
before I let you go, Eddie's just messaged through and said, Hi,
Katie and crew, could you please ask Ruth when she's
coming back to the Pistol Club. We miss her. She's
always a happy, smiling face.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Maybe well I shouldn't say maybe I need to have
a pistol, but I do own one that sits at
the at the at the Pistol Club. Maybe I need
to go back.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Seeing sounds like a woman you don't want to mess with.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
We're lucky that's not at home.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
No, it's not.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
We joke. Rue.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Good to catch up with you, glad I could make
you laugh this morning after what's been a pretty crappy weekend.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I like, I'm supposed to be in Adelaide for work
this week and I'm flying back today. Yeah, they just
need to be home.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Well, this is the thing, you know, It's like I said,
it is such an invasion of your privacy, and it is.
You know, it's incredibly frustrating stuff, particularly when you see,
you know, somebody on your own security vision cutting your
fence with not a care in the world, not giving
two shits about whether they're caught.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Yep, and come prepared like they absolutely came prepared with
cutters and angle grinders because they were dumped as well.
So yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
It is well, Ruth, thank you for your time this morning.
You better get back to the Pistol Club at some point,
just just to let some steam off.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Mate.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Talk to you soon, Talk soon.

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
