Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are all set for a massive few days of
action with the supercars in the top end this weekend.
But we've also learned this week that Australia's ultimate festival
on wheels, the Red Center NATS, it is well, it's
going to return, bigger and better than ever in Alice
Springs from September five to seven. This year's event introducing
(00:21):
a brand new central hub with Lassida's Center of Excellence
in the Alice Springs Convention Center transformed into a premium
area packed with elite vehicles, live entertainment and high energy experiences.
Now I am very pleased to say that. Joining me
on the line. Red Center NATS event manager Dale mcgiver,
(00:43):
Good morning, Dale.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Good a Katie, long time they see.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
I was thinking the same. It's lovely to hear your
voice and have you on the show.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Great to be back on the territory airways, Katie and
yeah talking all things motorsport. You know something that you
and I so got our hits around, have we?
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Oh look, you know me. I love a good event, Dale,
no matter what it is. And the Red CENTERNTS. I
tell you what it's going to go off, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, it is Katie, Look, we're really excited this year.
I've recently joined it, that's and we're still working very
closely with Anti Government and the team at major events.
But yeah, we've sort of taken the rain slowy for
the event this year, and yeah, it's given us the
opportunity to I guess look how we've done things in
the past, and yeah, just sort of flipping it on
(01:31):
its team and giving it a refresh. This year sort
of sees the eleventh year of it, So yeah, it
was an opportunity for a bit of a refresh and rethink.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
So tell me a bit about some of the things
that have changed or been added for this year.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, look so much. I'm even struggling to keep up
with it, Katie. We got so many new and exciting things.
But as you just mentioned, we are working with the
team at lasted Is there in our springs, which we've
had our scrutineering and a few events at the past
in but we just saw a really great optuy tunity
to sort of really bring our elite show and shine
offering from Historically it's been out at the Black Skytte
(02:05):
Parks showgrounds, but this year we're sort of making Lasted
as a bit of a hub, so we'll have that
activated on both Friday night and Saturday, and yeah, people
have the opportunity to come and see, you know, all
of those really nice elite vehicles that come into town.
But we'll bring in some of our drag cars and
burnout cars as well, so people can't normally get up
close to them out at the drag strip, but by
(02:26):
having them at Lasted as people will be able to
walk around and see them. We'll do a startup which
is a really exciting thing where you know, they get
really noisy and exciting, so you know, people can get
real sort of really close up and have a chat
to some of these drivers that travel from all around
Australia bringing their vehicles to our springs in the middle.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
So for somebody that's never been to the Red Scentinats,
I mean, paint a bit of a picture for us.
What's it like.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, look, we really take over the town for the weekend,
which was great. We work close with the town council
and all of the venues and yeah, it's a real
town tape take over. So one of the biggest highlights
is if you've got a car that normally you couldn't
register on the road anywhere in Australia just to normally
drive around town and drive through the streets. We've worked
(03:11):
really closely with the Motor Vehicle Registery in an Order
Territory government and we get special permits for those cars
so they can go in, you know, particular areas. So
you can be walking down the street going to do
your grocery shopping or taking the kids to work and
you will see these fully blown vehicles driving past in
the streets of our springs. So that's really cool. Like
you don't have to necessarily to be a huge motorspoort
(03:35):
enthusiast to take part in this, you know, things like
working with the Olo Springstown Council for the night markets
is another huge step we've taken this year. So we've
sort of done it a little bit in the last
couple of years, but we've got a four blind night market.
We'll have a lot of our cars parking up and
doing the show and shine and very excitingly, we are
bringing back the motorbike ride through through Gojangles Bar.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Oh what how does that work?
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yes, So the Fishes Run event, which is a great
motorcycle event in our springs used to do it, so
we've sort of reintroduced it this year. So Bojangles Famous
Town right in the middle of Todd Streets there in town,
So the motorbikes will literally start riding through the back door,
(04:18):
straight through the middle of the pub and then pop
out the front door on Todd Streets. So yeah, so
it's really cool to have you know, these Parley's and
you know, fat tails and all these sort of things
just driving through the pub. So we're excited to be
able to introduce that one as part of the program
this year too.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
How cool. I know there are so many motoring enthusiasts
listening to the show this morning. Plenty of people in
town for the supercars. I mean, what is your message
for them if they're thinking, hang on a sec. This
sounds like something I'd like to go to.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, definitely, so many ways to get involved, Katie. And
the great thing about Red Center that's in the events
that we do is you don't have to have a
special suit up, flashy car. You can we take your
car that you do the row through, run in, take
the kids, kids to school and sport and everything you
can intnate in Red Sin and ads and come and
join in some of the events. So you can participate
(05:10):
in you know, having a little drive down the drag strip,
participating in the street Prey which is always awesome, Like
the whole town comes out watches that one on the
Saturday afternoon. It's free for people to come and watch
that one. You know, you can enter your car or
if you have you know, your nice show car or
you burn out car and you dragger. There literally is
something for everyone. Or if you don't have a car
(05:32):
or just don't want to nty, you want to come
along the watch. There's so many opportunities for free events
like the night markets and the street Pary or obviously
our ticket events that the drag Strip to watch burnouts
and drag cars, and the FMX Air Show that we're
bringing in this year as well. So there's something for everyone.
But there's also going to be plenty of fun like
you know, kids' activities and face painting, you know, all
(05:54):
that sort of really fun stuff as well, because at
some father's weekend, so we want to make a real
family atmosphere about it as well.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
How cool. Now, tell me how many people are you
expecting to converge on Olie Springs for the event.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Literally thousands, Katie. I think we normally attract around about
ten to twelve thousand people a year into Red Center APS,
which is a great things. It's on the bucket list
for a lot of our motorsport enthusists that participate in
a lot of our other events throughout our calendar throughout
the year, like Summer Ats and Rocky Apps and all
the Nats and all the other events we do around Australia.
(06:29):
The one in our Springs is the one they all
want to come and do because it's obviously a pretty
epic road trip to get there, but then with everything
just being so close, like they can participate in everything
over the whole weekend. So that's a great thing for
our entrance and attracting them, but it's also a great
thing for people that just want to come along and
watch as you get to see all these pretty cool cars,
you know, cruising the streets of our springs.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
How good well Dale, It is lovely to speak to
you this morning. If anybody's keen to find a little
bit more info, where can they head to? I'm assuming
just to the website.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Air to the Red Senaat's website. Spectator tickets are now
on sale, and the other really exciting thing we're doing
is we have slashed spectator tickets by fifty percent for
a limited time only, so get in. You need a
spectator ticket from seven dollars fifty tickets. Wow, So that
is that like super cheap. So again, we really want
to bring this event to Alice Springs and involve the
(07:21):
whole community. So that's another thing that we've sort of
introduced here. But they're only limited, so getting early to
get those cheaper tickets.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Dale. Someone's just messaged and said, Katie, is the Red
Sentinat's anything like the Summernats.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
It's it's a smaller version of some of ats, so
obviously that that's another one of our big events that
we present. But it's the same enthusiastic motorsport community that
sort of comes along. So you know those in drag
cars and burnout cars and things like that, so get
the sort of pure motorsport heads, but you get people
that just want to come along and enjoy all things
(07:56):
motorsport and looking at pretty cars as well.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Well. Wonderful to catch up with you this morning, Dale,
Thank you so much for your time.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Thanks Katie, good to have a chat.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Thank you,
