Speaker 1 (00:00):
Over the weekend we learned a forty year old man
lost his life following a buggy crash in Girrawayne. We've
since learned that that man was a much love member
of the footy community and a loving family man. His
name was Ryan Christopher's. Now joining me on the line
is the president of the Southern District's Football club, Kevin Mulvale.

(00:21):
Good morning to you, Kevin, Katie. How are you not bad? Bye? Kevin?
Can you tell us more about Ryan or Chris so
as he was affectionately known.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, he came up here before Impex and it's been
around the club now for quite a few years. And
just a white achiever. We're saying that working bees won't
be the same animal because he's a fella were always
just getting there to get the job done quietly and
without making too much trust and move on and just

(00:55):
support everyone I'm in the club. Like example, I've got
one of our players, one of his teammates in Rossy
Johnson races the youth. You know, Christo was always seeming
messages of support before each race, now after each race.
So yeah, just a nice guy that just went about

(01:16):
the humbles of.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, just a good blog by the sounds of it, mate,
how long was he the captain one of the captains
at the club.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
He was captains of the Divvy co captain Divvy two
I think for three years and was the co captain
for the premiership two years ago.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
You said in a statement that he was always willing
to lend a hand and his presence was deeply valued.
He sounds like he was a really strong member of
the CrOx footy club.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh, the whole family have been great asset for the
club and the reason why of the reasons why we
are a strong club. His wife was always helping around.
She was heavily involved in the junior cohorts where all
three of the kids play, and then Chris I was
there pretty much every home game doing something.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
I imagine that the club is now doing everything that
you can to really wrap your arms around his wife
and his kids.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, of course, I mean his tragic He was doing
what the father should be doing, spending time with his kids,
having the fun. So it's quite tragic that someone so
invested in his family has an accident like this. So yeah,
definitely there's a lot of a lot of love going

(02:44):
out to their family from all over the club and
his employer MA.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
It's heartbreaking. Honestly. When I saw this pressure leies come
through from the Northern Territory Police and I saw that
it was a forty year old man and that there
was you know, that there was youths in that buggy
as well. My instant thought is, you know, this is
potentially a dad with these kids. And then when I
saw that statement from you know, from you guys from

(03:10):
the Crocs footy club, I felt really heartbroken. I just think,
you know, I just think of his wife, I think
of his children, I think of the whole footy club
and how you guys must be feeling at this point
in time. It is it's tragic.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
It is, yeah, tragic, devastating for everyone. I have a
few drinks for the Calling your Caven tomorrow thurs idiot
tomorrow night, just to celebrate his life a bit and
a binding those people. It was very close to a
lot of people in the club and that it has
a huge impact of Crops all of us made.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Is there anything that the community can do at this
point in time. I know it's very early days, but
is there anything that the community can do at this
point in time? You know to help his wife and
kids in any way. Like I said, I know it's
early days, but I know a lot of people listening
will be keen to help if they can.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Oh, look, I think it is early days at the moment. Yeah,
still grief to go through with the funerals took her
in near future, and just everyone sort of getting their
heads different on what's happened. You know, just the family,
where the kids, Chris I would be kicking the fully

(04:25):
halftime three quill the time of every game with his kids.
His kids were always around the clubs as white eyed,
just enjoying being amongst the the players and just I
love being at the footy club.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Yeah, oh, Kevin, my heart goes out to the whole
football club and particularly Chris's wife and kids. I know
it's difficult to come and speak at this point in time,
but it's I think it's so important to honor a
man who sounds like he was a really good her.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
So yeah, now look, he's appropriate, you know, we should
get the message out. But he was a role model
as far as father as go, like you work a
double shift, come play footy, take his kids to the
footy and go off and keep on working for the
family is what a father should be and very involved
in in with his children.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Kevin, thank you for speaking to us this morning. And
as I say, my heart goes out to all of you.
I know that you have got you know you you
are planning to certainly honor Chriss So this weekend or tomorrow,
I believe to anybody that is part of the club
that maybe wants to know a little bit more about that,

(05:44):
what can you tell us tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Just it's Crockett fool fool and you can. We'll have
a table there and whoever wants to turn up, most
of them and welcome to come along. That includes from
East arm Silver whereas employed. You know, it's just good
gears meet people as are turning around each other and
make sure everyone's okay.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Kevin, thank you, mate, Thank you very much for speaking
to us this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with
all of you guys.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Now, look, thanks for the opportunity.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Thanks thanks mate, Thank you,
