Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, a real change of pace. We've had so much
news so far this morning, but there's some really great
stuff happening when it comes to tourism and Destination in Tea.
A new week long tourism initiative. It's kicking off in
November and it's going to bring together businesses, government and
key stakeholders from across the tourism sector. It will be
part forum, part conference, and it presents unique workshops to
(00:24):
create a high impact program where the industry can learn
and share with each other. Now joining us on the
line to tell us more is Tourism and Tee Senior
Director of Tourism Business Development, Leanne Paige. Good morning to Leanne.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Good morning Katie.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Lovely to have you on the show. New Leane. Can
you tell us what's different about this event compared to
some of the past tourism conferences that we've had here
in the Northern Territory.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, we're really excited to bring Destination and Tea to life.
It's going to be a week for the tourism, events
and hospitality industry with lots of sessions to spark inspiration,
share insights, connect, collaborate and of course we finished the
week with a big celebration of the Broger Awards. In
the past, we've had the conferences early in the year
in sibrary and then had Brogers at the end of
(01:11):
the year. So we're packaging it up into it. You
can't miss week.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, right, and how come you've sort of made that
decision to put everything together.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
It's really driving that got to be in your calendar moments.
I think it's tough for business to get away from
there every day. This is more than one reason to
come together, and it also provides us an opportunity to
expand the conference sessions. So we've got more speakers, more insights,
more learnings than ever before.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Now, tell me I know that you know for small
small tourism operators or other you know, larger tourism operators,
they might be struggling a bit still post COVID and
with some of the cost of living pressures that we've
had over the years. You know, what is your hope
for them in terms of some of the tangible outcomes
from this event and from this week long event.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, we've added in some new elements, such as these
sector sessions in particular where they really hands on interactive
sessions talking to people working in particular sectors that businesses
might not have leaned into yet, and sparking ideas of
other ways that they can drive demand within their own business.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
I know that the program's also going to include some
sessions on things like military tourism crews and even domestic education.
I mean, are they areas that we're sort of hoping
to tap further into.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Absolutely, that's exactly. So We've got a morning on Wednesday,
the fifth of November, just one hour short sessions understanding
those bite size kind of takeaways and talking to businesses
that are leaning into those sectors, understanding how that might
work for you picking one or jumping on the big
bus for the morning with a group a bunch of
other industry people and getting amongst all of them.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
I mean, even things like our military tourism. And I
know we've got some fantastic operators that really focus on that.
But we have just got such a rich history when
it comes to, you know, to defense and our military history,
don't we?
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Absolutely? And I think there's some exciting opportunities coming up
around promotions in that space. We'll be talking about a
new AI trip planner which industry can get involved with
and we'll drive visitors directly to their businesses.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Yeah, right, so use a bit of AI to work
out where you're where you're maybe going to go when
you go on holidays.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, It's interesting, isn't it the way in which I
suppose aism being utilized across so many different fields to
sort of streamline different things. But I had never really
thought of it from like a tourism perspective.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
If that's certainly something that's playing a big role in
the tourism sector. And actually one of the sessions will
have on the Friday conference will be a demystifying AI
session with Lucio Rubiro and I think you know, there's
a lot of clutter, there's a lot of conversations around
AI and what does it actually mean for my business?
And this will help break through that.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Hey, before I let you go, I mean you touched
on this. Obviously, the broader awards are going to wrap
up the week. How are you making sure that you
know that wreck ignition of industry excellence translates into broader
support I guess and visibility for those operators it might
be you know, doing the hard yards in some of
the lesser known parts of the Northern Territory absolutely so.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
As theme for the Brogger Awards this year is a
sense of place and that's really leaning into the people
in their industry and their regional destinations. So you'll see
lots of fun activations but also some unique ways that
we're profiling businesses both there are enter through the wards
but also through a Northern Territory industry.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Well Tourism and Tee Senior Director of Tourism Business Development
