Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now another big weekend of footy across the Northern Territory
(00:03):
and one of the AFL's big names is going to
be playing at Gardens Oval this weekend, putting on the
red and white to play for Tars. Collingwood premiership player
and Brownlow medalist Dane Swan is going to be taking
the field for Warta on Saturday, and Warta means Premier
League coach Rick Nolan joins me on the line. Good morning,
(00:23):
Ricky Cadie.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Yeah? Really good? How are you going?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah? I a bit nervous to meet someone of this status. Yeah,
it's a big going to be a big day for
the club and here very very lucky to have someone
of that of that status playing with us this weekend.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Rick Nolan, I don't believe you ever get nervous, mate.
You strike me as someone with nerves of steel.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
I'm looking looking forward to this sort of with Dane.
Know you don't know what to do tonight? Are you're
take him? How to get a few boys to take
him out for dinner and we'll talk them? What are
you talking? He's done everything so that we're really looking
forward to.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
How good? How did this all come about?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
I think the all cut offs to a president Rowan Langworthy.
I think he knew someone, but I think he's now.
He played for Wartored about four times over the years.
I think COVID hit and that's another time he cut
his hand. And I think there's about the mark mark
four or something of trying to get it to happen.
So it looks like it's it's going to it will
be happening this Saturday, four thirty ath guns. That will
(01:28):
be awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
And how do you kind of work like, how do
you work him into your squad? You know, like you've
already got your team that you're playing week in and
week out. I know we're really early into the season,
but how do you work someone like this into your squad?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
I think you always make room for the champions. So yeah,
it's I think he's forty one, so we're not expecting
him to turn to turn and turn it on, especially
in this heat. Not really knowing anyone's names, but I
think it's just it's good promotion for the footy club
and good promotion for the whole n TfL. And even
you know this is the media has been Australia. Whit's
it's good publicity to the whole whole of dar And
so just asking anyone if they want to come in
(02:01):
and watch a champion play, come in and then he's
able to have a beer. It's free to get into
the clubhouse afterwards. And he's going to be there late
and there's alive Ben and everyone's welcome to come and
have a beer with Swaning. Won't cost you a cent.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
How good it'll be, heaps of fun. Now tell me
how the first couple of rounds gone for you, guys?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Not real good. We're not knowing too okay, So we
need to we need to win this week.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
We've been so he's welcome this weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
We're pretty close to tea. We last week we didn't
get the chocolates round one. We sort of played everyone
that had been going to train and we didn't really
have that big of a crack of it compared to
points when we play then. But now it's a must
win game this weekend. So now we're looking forward to
hope this money can kick a few or get his
ends on the foot. It's maybe be great.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yeah, hey, what I mean, look how are the boys looking?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Though?
Speaker 1 (02:46):
I know it's always like those first few games in
the you know, in the rounds, it's everyone's always finding
their feet a bit too, and you're kind of working
things out as a team.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
We've got we have turned the sport over significant from
last year. We get as many players come back, repeat,
come back as we would have would have liked it
this It is a new squad. And yeah, we're just
finding our feet at the moment. We've been I've been served,
we've been writing games, but we need we need to
win this weekends. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Hey, and I know there's been like obviously there were
some changes announced as well in terms of players flying
in and all that kind of things. It worked out,
you know, do you feel as it's working out well
for the league?
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, I don't know. I personally myself, I hate it.
I just run around everyone live here and put their
money back into the dawn economy. I don't think the
league had any choice. He just couldn't police it. So
just every week it was as this bloke living here
on this bloke not living here. So I just think
it was impossible to police. Coming from the league's point
of view, Yeah, personally, I hate it. Now I want
to coach I players a train and I that's what
(03:46):
I think football's about, and it has changed. I was
a bit shop round round once. I didn't read the
I didn't read the room very well. We didn't fly
anyone in and some clubs will flying seven and so
I didn't read it well, read what was about it
happened sort of thing. So I think it's economically viable
to keep going the way that it's gone. We'll probably
lighten up a bit, but certainly earlier. So I was
(04:08):
a little bit of shot buttes.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, and look it's always tough as well. You know,
like you said, it is great if you've got people
living here and you've got them party are scored each
and every week. It's a wonderful thing.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, that's it. Whoever wins the premiership will be we
will be the team that's got the most players living
here and down. I'll assure you that.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Oh well, we're still it a long way to go
in terms of the season. Rix. So it's going to
be a massive weekend this weekend. Now, what time is
everything kicking off? On Saturday?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Four Thirty's are the main game and then our women's
games after us. So come in and watch the women's
game after we have a free entry into the slubhouse.
Funny will be there. The lady's pretty keen to have
a few beers with everyone. So yeah, it's bring your family,
bring the kids, because yet we don't get a player
of this caliber plan now, local competitions every day. He's
probably as big a name to ever play in the camp,
(04:58):
probably since Brendon Vival fully ten fifteen years ago.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
So hell, good to be awesome. Oh well, wonderful stuff, Rick,
lovely to catch up with you. Go Tars, Thanks, thank you.
