Speaker 1 (00:01):
Or actor or musician.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Jared Leto has been accused of sexual misconduct and predatory
behavior by nine women.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Let's catch up. He's our entertainment editor Peter Ford Hyghpede.
This has come to lightning you report.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yes it has, and a number of the nine women
were underage when this flirtation began. So just to be
really clear, nobody is actually accusing him of anything physical
but making contact with these underage girls, having conversations with
them which would be considered completely inappropriate for an adult
to be having with an underage person.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Look, he's denying everything.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Jared Leto is of course a very unusual performer in
that he has these dual careers with his band and
also of course as a movie star. At the moment,
he's actually on a European tour with the band. So,
as I say he's denying everything, I guess it's very
hard to know where this will go, if anywhere, because
there are no laws to say you can't be gross,
(00:59):
you know, how do you take that into a courtroom,
particularly when there's to say there's nothing physical that has
taken place. It's certainly damaging for his career to have
this stuff out there. And if he can't find a
way to kind of hose it down, if you like,
now he's making some attempt to do it. His people
have said that one of the accusers, in fact, after
(01:20):
this flirtation began, I think it was some way down
the track, actually applied for a job to become his
PA and didn't get it. And she is now one
of the people who's making the public accusations about him.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
So watch and see where it goes, if anywhere.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Let's move on the Tony Awards. They're currently underway in
New York.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Sarah Snook, our own Sarah has been keeping us updated.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, so look, it's a great day.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
This is a great day for Australian theater, particularly the
Sydney Theater Company. Six nominations for the Picture of Dorian Gray,
and of course Sarah Snook seems to be a shoe
in there. She is arriving with her husband Dave. She
seems to be a shoe in for Best Actress. I
think it'd be jaw dropping if she doesn't actually get it.
But a couple of hours ago she posted up a
terrific picture. You go to look very carefully now you
(02:06):
might see what's that coat hanger hanging up there in
the corner. Well that, in fact, if we can zoom
in on that, that actually indicates that it is a
coat hanger.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
But that's an ivy drip that is hanging up and
obviously going into her veins.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
The hopefully medical professional professional who's putting it into her
arm knows what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I don't know what it's for, some kind of saline drip.
It's a long day.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
The awards go on for a long time, and of
course a lot of focus will be on her. You know,
people are saying this is one of the great Broadway performances.
In fact, the other night, Oprah Winfrey went to the show,
went backstage, and I wanted to show you this. This
is Oprah going backstage to see Sarah.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
You don't know what to say.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
There are words were dazzled.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
It's a magic. You can't imagine anybody else other than
Sarah doing it. That's true, It's true.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
And news just in Sarah won, she won Best Actress. Yes,
she's talking to her. Yeah, she's got the Tony Awards.
So that is absolutely wonderfs and said it would have
been extraordinary had she not and a quick shout out
in Heaven to a lady called Zoe Corwell, another actress
from Melbourne who won four Tony Awards.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Back in the day. And I'm sure Sarah will be
very conscious of that.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
So let's have a look at some of the people
who were there, some of the red carpet pictures. I
want to show you Cynthia Arrivo. Of course, she is
also hosting it. Is there anyone busier than Cynthia Arrivo
at the moment? She of course also has a new
album at George Clooney and Amal Georgia. Course, up until
yesterday was working on stage. She is nominated as Best Actor,
his first time ever appearing on Broadway.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Samuel L.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Jackson was there, not nominated tonight, but certainly there in
the crowd. Katie Holmes also Nicole Scherzinger. Now she is
that's one to really watch as to whether she is
going to win Best Actress in a Musical or whether
it will be Audra McDonald or Gypsy. So the show
has begun, obviously because the first award has been given out.
I'll show you a bit of the opening number. A
(04:10):
number of the big Broadway writers who write music got together,
collaborated on this together, and the song which Cynthia is
singing is called sometimes All You need is a song?
What are you doing here?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
It's the Tommys, it's you.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I had to be here.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And what do you do when everyone is telling me
what you need to do Forget.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
About them, babe.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
The only thing you need to.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Do is just be your.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
So it looks like a really fun start to the show.
We'll keep tabs across it all morning. But as I said,
great day obviously now for Sarah, but for the Sydney
Theater Company, all those behind the scenes people who created
that extraordinary show.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Are we the only show that Oprah hasn't appeared on today?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Every film Now show twice? Yeah? That's right?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
How good? Adam Lambert?
Speaker 2 (05:30):
You want to pick on your hand at the microphone though,
wouldn't you around?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
We'll see soon
