Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, and of course the world continues to react
to the death of Pope Francis.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
For more, we joined by entertainment editor Peter Fodge.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
What's the latest. Well, it's a fascinating time we're now
into that. I think even if you're not Catholic, it's
such an interesting time of mourning and then going into
the funeral preparations and then of course the conclave itself,
And no doubt the Hollywood movie has made that all
the more interesting and accessible to people to follow as
it plays out. One thing I did want to show
(00:29):
you yesterday. I referenced Whoopy Goldberg and that event they
held last year at the Vatican where one hundred comedians
were invited to go. Now today overnight our time was
the first day back on air for the view because
of the Easter break, and Whoopy has referenced that particular
event and how important it was to her. Take a
look at this.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
He brought one hundred comedians from around the world. Yeah,
one hundred of us, remember that one in to meet
with her and what he said was I want to
laugh more.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
So, Yeah, isn't that an interesting thing that they did?
And of course the coverage in the well potentially months ahead,
is going to be now, of course, in very safe
hands with Chris Reason on the ground, which is great.
But Conclave, of course, which had been very successful movie
is now being rediscovered. People who didn't get to it
before this are now checking it out, and other people
(01:28):
are going back and watching it because most of the
experts have said they do believe that it actually was
a very accurate portrayal of what does happen within the
walls of the Vatican. Now, the outcome, I'm not going
to spoil it, but the outcome of the movie is
most unlikely. But certainly the other stuff, all of the
pageantry and the pomp and the tradition was extremely accurate.
(01:50):
And indeed, in the last twenty four hours there's been
a spike in the number of people around the world
wanting to watch this movie via this Dreaming Services of
two hundred and eighty three percent. So I'm sure that
that's going that's good for business, right, So I'm sure
that's only going to continue in the in the week's ahead.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah, I got to say, it wasn't on any of
our lists of things to watch, but now we're you know,
we're getting time decided to have a look at that.
George Clooney has opened up in an interview with a
theater great.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Meanwhile, peak with Patty Lapone, we haven't mentioned we haven't
mentioned her for at least three weeks. Where's your bell?
How I haven't got the bad mad me? But anyway,
so what they've done variety. You know how they do
those actors on actors where movie stars talk to each other,
into each other, and then of course they're very relaxed chats,
so all sorts of things come out. Well, they're now
(02:40):
doing it with theater stars, and this is the first
one to have dropped. And of course George Clooney is
now a theater star only just because he's just opened
in this play Good Good, as we talked about yesterday
that the Bad Hair Dye. So and of course they're
both very outspoken politically and needless to say, very much
leaned towards the left. So here is a little of
(03:02):
the fifty minutes. It's not on politics, a lot of
it's about acting at craft of acting. And George actually
brought Patty to tears when he talked about having seen
her on stage and how she will this is the
word he is to levitate an audience and bring them
up to his emotional journey with an any fact, He
said on camera, let me ring my wife a mile.
She knows what a huge fan of Home of Yours
(03:23):
and she is too, and so they went about ringing
a mile and so she could have a quick word
to Patty as well. So check it out. It's a
lot of fun. You can find it online. One's on YouTube.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Do you write to Patty Lapote because we heard yesterday
you were writing to the Late Post.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I do? Actually do they do? And she replied to
you always, yeah, always, So why I see? I shouldn't
mention things like that because it becomes a thing with you.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
No, Pete, it's important, please mention.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
All right, okay, all right, Pete. A classic Ausie show,
isn't is making a return to screens. Yeah, so number
ninety six and it's coming back. It's coming back by
way of a streaming service called Brolly. It's going to
be free for you. You've got to access Brolly, but
it's then free for you to watch it. And we're
(04:13):
going back in time. We really are. I mean, the
first two years of this were in black and white
and there's only eighteen of those black and white episodes left,
but once it got into color, you know, we have
those episodes and Brolly will be dropping them over a period.
Oh my god, that's the night the bomb went off.
Australia came to a stop that night, as it did
the night that the panty hose strangler was revealed as well.
(04:36):
I mean these were huge things. We've never seen the
likes of a show like this before, and you know
we had a lot of shock value, new to ty
and adult themes, and also it had of course a
lot of comedy as well. There are great characters in
there like Dorry and Herb and Mummy and Daddy. Beautifully
created show by a man called David Sayle who's up
(04:57):
on the Gold Coast these days, still very much with us.
So there's the bomb going off, This is coming up,
the bomb explosions coming up for fifty years in June.
So the building is of course still standing in montcur Street, Wallara.
People still turn up there and expect to see Dorri
and Herb and Arnold Feather and Dudley Butterfield.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Abergail was my first girlfriend.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Oh yeah in your mind, Yeah, she was quick shout
out to Elizabeth Kirkby, who played Lucy in number ninety six.
She's still she's one hundred and four years old and
she watches the morning show every day. That's her there
in the pink dressing gown.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
There.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Lucy and Elf were quite the couple, kind of the
real ordinary people of the show, working people. But anyway,
number ninety six, May sixteen, brolly, this is what you've
got to get access.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Hello Elizabeth, if you're watching this morning.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yes, it's gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Thanks Peg, thanks to watch it from behind the couch.
I wasn't allowed to watch it, so'd sneak out and
watch it behind the couch. I love Abigail, very close
to me.
