Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
The world is remembering movie star Val Kilmer, who passed
away yesterday aged just sixty five.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Yeah. For more, we're joined by entertainment editor Peter Ford Pete.
He has left an incredible legacy, Yeah, he has.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
He was really only an A list staff for a
relatively short period of time, but packed in a lot
of good work in that time. I suspect he probably
back in the day, was just too good looking for
his own good. I think he was too outspoken for
his own good. They expected young actors to not be
questioning things, and Val was a very deep thinker.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Now, interestingly it.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Was pneumonia that killed him, but we do know he's
been battling cancer. Now, Oh that's scene there in Maverick.
Now that's an AI voice, that's not actually his voice.
They had to create that because Tom wanted him to
do that scene in the movie. And you know, back
in the day, when he was so hot, he just
churned out the movies, including here in Australia, the movie

(00:54):
The Island of Doctor Moreau. Now, work did kind of
dry up and he had to create his own work,
and he went about doing that.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
He wrote a play, financed and produced it. Himself.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
It was the story of Mark Twain and Mark Twain
of course, brilliant American writer, and he took it on
stage right around America for a couple of years, and
he would.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Have still been going doing it.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
But this post I'm going to show you now was
on his Instagram only five weeks ago. That's the Mark
Twain play that he was taking around with great success.
Now this post I'm going to show you was only
five weeks ago. In it, you'll see he doesn't have
any embarrassment about the fact his voice is no longer there,
and it is the last time that he puts on

(01:37):
the Batman mask.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
It's rather poignant. Have a look, I haven't an it's
been a while. Oh you look greed.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
So he had great resilience and fortitude, sadly with his
cancer journey in the early day. He was a Christian scientist,
and they don't believe in traditional medicines per se. He
did in the end end up utilizing traditional medicine, but
they very much believe in praying it away.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
But that was his faith and he stood very true
to it.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Now, when the work did drive us, I say he
created his own work. When his voice box was gone,
he started doing art and selling it via his website
to keep the money coming in. Now, in this talk
show appearance from about It's about eleven years ago, you
will see that he was quite open about the fact
that the projects weren't there for him, so he was
going to stick with this Mark Twain play.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Have I looked at this what about you? Do you
have any other projects that are coming up? Then no,
I don't Mark Twain till I don't need the light
wig anymore, so he probably would still be doing it.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
It was only about six months after that appearance, when
he was doing the play, that he was discovered he
did have throat cancer, and of course that took a
terrible toll. I mean, cancer is hideous for everyone, but
when it takes away your ability to communicate and at
the same time takes away your livelihood, then that's that
extra bit cruel. So remarkable career and remarkable story of

(03:14):
Val kilma Ye. Well, let's change gears now, Pete and
Duchess megans.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
As ever, launch has been a huge success. Credit where
it's due. It is a complete sell out.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Now these are her products, including the Flower Sprinkles, the
much talked about jam her crepe mix within one hour
today everything was sold out.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Now you could only be bought in America.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
So if you're going to have Deboo, a you much
hyped and criticized range of products, then certainly you'd like
to be able to stamp that sold out stamp on it.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Now.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Of course, being cynical, you could potentially manipulate that if
you wanted to create a frenzy and make it look
as if the whole world was demanding more of this product,
will be pretty easy to do. This is the latest
post that Meghan has put up, and it's Shantilly Lily,
which is a dessert and it's named after the daughter

(04:09):
Lily Bet, so in effect, this is not only named
after Lily Bet, but also after the late Queen Elizabeth.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
That's where the name comes from.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
So Shantilly Lily and yeah, Meghan would be quite rightly
rushing back to that stove and those pots and pans
to churn out more of that jam, because it seems
the demand is there another batch?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah, another batch, good honor.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I've got fresh details about the upcoming Michael Jackson movie Pete.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Yes, so coming up next year.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
We had thought it might be the end of this year,
and interestingly two parts, doing it a bit like Wicked. However,
this will not be separated by a year. Both of
them will come out next year. I don't know what
the point is where you end part one and start
part two, but it's already got a lot of good
hype surrounding it and will be out next.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Good on you, thanks Peter. We're back to again, very
secular
