Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, let's get more on that developing story out of
the US, where the Murdoch succession deal has reportedly been finalized.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
It's a whole big deal. Let's get some more. His
Our Entertainment editor Peter Ford Pete, this was dub the
real Life Succession.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Yeah, that's really the only way most of us can
relate to it, because it's been such an extraordinary power play,
and I think first and foremost it has been about power,
about control, about editorial stance, all of those things, rather
than simply money. But the money, of course is quite
mind boggling too. So the outcome of it is that
most people are saying it's a win for Rupert, even
(00:34):
though he is pulling back, will remain chairman emeritus, and
it is certainly a win for Lachlan.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
That is what Rupert wanted, that Lachlan.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Will be in charge and in control after he's gone.
So what it does mean for Prudence, Elizabeth and James
is that they are certainly very cashed up.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
With new trust funds that are set up for them.
They will have.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Apparently seven hundred and sixty million dollars each day, that's
the conservative amount, But the belief is once all the
extra add ons are put into it, that will end
up with about one point one billion dollars each US,
which is around about one point six billion dollars Australian each.
Now what it does mean though they can't later try
and take any control of the company, so everything is
(01:19):
now in place. It's a win for Rupert, even though
it has cost him.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
A lot of money.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Ge and cousin Greg, Well, cousin Greg ends up moving
On Hey Saturday legend, Wilbur Wilde has shared an update
on himself and it's not a nice update.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Well it's not a nice one, but we've got every
reason to be optimistic because he has revealed that he
has been battling cancer for the last couple of years now,
because we all agree to love him on Hey Hey
Great Live before we've ever get to see him up
on stage doing his music great on that saxophone, and
he has been dealing with the very same cancer that
his old mate John Blackman had and that John Farnham
(02:00):
has been dealing with and has resulted in one third
of his tongue having to be removed and the bottom
part of his mouth having to be removed. Now he's
had to go and have all sorts of pathology and
surgery and everything.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
You know, he's gone through the works.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
I went to him about eight months ago and said,
I've heard about your illness.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Can I report? He said, don't report it.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
You know a lot of old school people, they don't
like illnesses being reported because they have a feeling that
it's going to stop them getting work. People won't book
them anymore. Younger performers tend to love the publicity. So
I did what I said I do, and I didn't
report it. But today it has come out, and I
think the most extraordinary part of this story is that
in June of last year, Wilbert was the MC of
(02:44):
John Blackman's funeral.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
And did a magnificent job.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
He was you know, even managed to crack some jokes
and make everyone laugh, and he captured the spirit of John.
And to think that he was conducting that service for
his mate and he himself at the time was dealing
with the exact same cancer, and he did it with
dignity and class and humor.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
As I say, so, he's got the all clear.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
I guess that's the big headline that he would wants
to emphasize. So don't be afraid to book him, you know,
either for music gigs or embc's for weddings or funerals.
He's great fund So lots of love to Wilberwilde.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, lots of love Big fellows. Okay. Now, prestigious award
said to be given to actor Tom Hanks has been canceled.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Peepe, Yeah, this is really bad. So Tom Hanks was
to be given this Thayer Award.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Its call.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
I wasn't familiar with it, but it's given at the
West Point Military Academy. It's a very big deal for
people who've gone above and beyond in helping service people
and military and he's done that by way of his
depictions in movies such as saving Private Ryan Forrest Gump,
executive producer of the series The Pacific.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Et cetera.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
And apart from that, he's also been a great activist
in terms of supporting causes for military veterans as well.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
So he was going to get this award, and.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
They put out the statement and they made it very
clear that this guy was absolutely.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
So deserving of it.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
You can see they're all the things they say, the
outline the reasons why he is thoroughly.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Deserving of this award. This is only a month ago.
What happened? Now suddenly the whole thing is canceled?
Speaker 3 (04:18):
And surprise, surprise, who's suddenly gloating on social media that
President Trump saying it was the right thing to cancel it.
He shouldn't got it, these woke and all that kind
of stuff. So the very obvious question that nobody's willing
to answer is why has this been canceled?
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Why is the award not going to be handed over
to him?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Now?
Speaker 1 (04:39):
What's West Point said?
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Well, they've said nothing, that's the whole thing. They've just
said the events off. They're not offering any kind of explanation.
So how you can go from that to that is
quite extraordinary without offering some justification. So the obvious question
is what kind of pressure was exerted onto West Point
to not go ahead with that event?
Speaker 4 (05:00):
And Tom has said nothing either.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
And you know what, Tom Hanks, being the person he is,
he wouldn't want any fuss or whatever. He would just
step back and go, you know, I'll do whatever you
want and.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
He will still go.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
And that was quite an intimate rundown of how Tom
Hanks would handle this.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Very Tom Hanks and his wife conduct themselves that they're
all class and so they wouldn't want any fuss.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
You're right, Kylie, Yeah, and that won't stop them continuing
to do whatever they need to do to help her.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
People are and a wonderful insight into how Tom Hanks
handles international headlines than you can't be.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
We'll just stop. Mary Fowler is switching the soccer pitch
for the runway.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, boy, hitting the big time. Keeping in some good
company too. Event taking place at the end of this
month in Paris.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
It's for Lareal.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
She already is an ambassador for them, but joining you know,
she obviously we know of her great work there on
the field, but certainly this is a whole other career
for her now because she's joining likes of Jane Fonder, Kendall, Jenno.
I mean, it's a whole list of big name people
who Laureal have on board. And this event will take
place in Paris. Well, she'll strip that catwalk. We will
(06:10):
absolutely have the vision for you as soon as we
can get it when it takes place in Paris at
the end of this month.
