Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to Sgrace rapper Sean Diddy Combs release date
from federal prison has been seen.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yeah from more. We're joined by entertainment editor Peter Ford.
Good morning, Pete. How much longer will he remain behind bars?

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Yeah, here's your diary date May eight, two twenty eight,
so twenty eight year twenty eight, around about two and
a half years. Of course, was October three that he
was sentenced. But if you cast your mind back to
the original days of this story, the worst case scenario
for him was he was never going to get out.

Speaker 4 (00:30):
Of prison again.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
So whilst two and a half years I'm sure for
him sounds like an eternity ahead, it's still a lot
better than it could have been. Now there's still a
chance of a presidential pardon. That story keeps resurfacing that
Trump is considering offering him that Also, there is the
appeal if that goes through. Depending on the timeline of

(00:51):
how quickly that happens, potentially he could be out earlier.
But at this point in time, it's still two and
a half years away for Diddy.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Okay, Pete, let's move on, and by now most people
would have seen the vision of King Charles being a
heckled by a protest we just ran a little.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Bit while ago.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
How's the public reacting to this encounter.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Well, because you go online and you'll get mixed reactions,
you get mixed extreme reactions. Of course, Look, let's be
very clear, it was one person in a sizeable crowd.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
But it's still a problem.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
And it does, I think, indicate something's got to be dune.
They've got to rain this in because if this does
become the new norm, it's going to be a real problem.
And it's so unfair to the royals who are out there,
you know, doing this sort of hard slog every day
and they're being dragged down by the no hopers. Basically,

(01:41):
you know, yesterday what the King was doing, as indeed
he was doing last week, was the pope.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
It's historic.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
It wasn't this actual event, but at the other event
he went to where he was really visiting this memorial
to lesbian, gay and transgender service people who really were
treated appallingly by the armed services in the UK and
he wanted to redress that bad history. And now it
all gets overshadowed. So there's one group called Republic. They've

(02:10):
gone online and they have According to their ex account,
they have eighty two thousand followers. Clearly their agenda is
to be anti monarchist, and they're saying quite he clearly
here we support the heckling.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Of the well they don't bring themselves to call in
King Charles. But so this is the problem, and I
think if nothing.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Else, this solo heckler is probably going to make them
really sit up and say we've got to get this
under control fast.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
A fair Larry and I were actually discussing saying it's
a wonder there's not more of it.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah, and given us.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Seriousness of the allegations against Prince Andrew, that one lone
heckler is making worldwide headlines. When you think about it,
it's actually probably more interesting that nobody has really heckled
before the point.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
I agree, Yeah, yeah, you've got to go to the
effort of being there at the time, But you think
some people might be motivated to do it, And now
worries me that this might open the floodgates. But you know,
moving in to Frogmore Cottage is not going to make
the problem go away.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
But they are acting. They're moving, albeit slowly. Yeah, sort
of in the right direction.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
All right, let's move on a Hugh Jackman has made
his red carpet debut with former coaster and now partner
Sutton Foster.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, so here we are. This is their red carpet debuts.
We've had some pat pics, we've had fans who've stopped them,
and they've graciously agreed to be photographed, but this is
the first time where they've actually gone out officially as
a couple on a red carpet. It was the opening
of his movie song Sung Blue. Got to tell you,
I've already seen two reviews for it, and I'm sure

(03:48):
hughes great in it, but they're saying Kate Hudson is unbelievable.
And yes, Oscar Buzz haven't got the belt, but Oscar
Buzz already for Kate. So look, it's been two years
over to year now since Hugh and deb Lee split
and they've all both got to.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Get on with their lives.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
And he think has been very conscious to go with
this slowly. As I've told you before, he studied to
be a journalist. He's very conscious of how people report
on him, what his image is, and I didn't I
don't think he wanted this to be too much too soon,
so as to say it's been a while. Now they're
getting on with their lives, and you know, we certainly

(04:26):
hope Deably is too.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
She's a lovely lady.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Speaking of getting on with things, Nicole Kidman, Wow didn't she? Wow?
This is a very Vogue world show.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah, isn't this becoming? Well, it's new to me.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
I think they did do it last year, but this
latest one, it's clearly getting bigger. They're putting more and
more money into it. Vogue obviously behind it, and a
Winter oversees.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
The whole thing.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
This one was how at the Paramount Studios they recreated
that whole backlot feel of the old Hollywood and as
you can see there Baz and Nicole and for yeah,
Baz Luhrman and the colon and look, I'm sure a
lot of our real movie buffs would recognize that dress.
That is the Rita Hayworth dress from Gilda, which opened

(05:10):
in nineteen forty six. And Rita Hayworth, for those who
don't know, was one of the drop dead bombshell stars
of Hollywood. Sad ending for her and that's the look
that that very effectively the Coole has created. I remember
at that opening in nineteen forty six.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
I was there on the red carpet.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Basically everyone's just had their jaws dropped when Rita arrived
and the Cole.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Achieved that same thing with Baz at that event.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
We've got to be a grab here.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
I think Pete yes, have a long.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Internal pots internal thought and hold hire jacks and the hair.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
She kicks them back. She sees her future, hold.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
The fut keep it pocust pocust a God, we have that.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
We've got, thank you, We've got it.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
It's very bads, isn't it? Very glam, very over the top.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
And that Vogue event has actually started in nineteen twenty two,
but clearly each year now it's getting bigger and bigger
in the same way. I guess that Anna Winter oversees
the met Gala now on the West coast.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
This is her little baby over there.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
I think we might she the other picture a bit late,
but Kendall Jenner actually wore Nicole Kidman's Mulin Rouge.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Out actual one. Yeah, which was pretty special.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, thanks Pete, thank you, thank you, Pete

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
