Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, following months of speculation about their next TV move,
that Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed a new
deal with Netflix. From All we're joined by entertainment editor
Peter Ford and what are your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well, it's not an extension of their arrangement. The contract
has not been renewed. It's a brand new arrangement. It's
a brand new association. It's what we call a first
look deal or a first refusal deal. So what it
basically means if they have an idea that they want
to get off the ground, they go to Netflix. They
have to go to Netflix first. That's why it's called
(00:33):
the first option deal. And then Netflix can say yeah,
that's great, let's do it. Or they might say wow,
I'm not sure, but we'll fund a pilot for you,
or they might say no, we don't like that idea,
but thanks for coming in.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
So that's basically what it is now.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
As part of the announcement today, they've also said there
is a second series of Megan's with Love series. Well,
that's already been filmed, that was filmed back to back
with series one, and I would.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Imagine them confirmed.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
I would imagine the Christmas special was also filmed at
that same time as well. But there is an upcoming
project involving a documentary, a documentary about orphanage in Africa,
So these things are on the table. So the bottom
line is whatever they were getting, whether it was one
hundred million or two hundred million, it was crazy money.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Netflix at the time were throwing money around with Gay Abandon.
They seemed like a hot couple to sign on, to
get them on board, even though they had no television
production experience whatsoever. So they got an incredible deal. This
new deal would be a fraction of that a fraction
and it's no commitment on Netflix's Netflix's part aside from
(01:41):
having to pay them the money each month. Basically, they're
keeping them in the family if you like, in case
they do want to do something that they really do
think that could be a ratings winner.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, what were you a ratings winners? More cheeseboards and
flower arranging?
Speaker 3 (01:55):
I think for me.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yes, Now, Snoop Dogg is confirmed for one of Australias because.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yes, the AFL Grand Final had been tipped for a
while and it is now confirmed. He will be the
pre show, the pre game entertainment and look, it's an
interesting story.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Snoop Doggs. It's pretty much a story.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
About reform and mallowing. It was in two thousand and
seven he was actually denied a visa to come into
Australia on character grounds.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
But he has very much changed.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
He's proved himself to be a very savvy businessman. I
think his association with Martha Stewart has been great. It's
given him a whole new audience and they work well
off each other together, and he's got a great catalog
of music. Now, whether it's the kind of music that
is going to get the whole auditorium, the whole arena
joining in, I'm not sure. It's very hard to get
(02:46):
acts where everybody's going to get excited. Not everybody has
those big anthematic numbers. But I'm sure he's doing gin
and juice or drop it like it's hot. I'm sure
the MCG will really respond to him.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
On the day.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
He's a little of Snoop Dogg talking about this announcement.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
One hundred thousand fans and the best two teams and
your boy, Big Snoop Deal double g at the MCG.
Can't wait to see you on in September for the
Tailstrap pregame Entertainment brought to you by Me.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
And you might recall last year NBC actually hired him
as a special special reporter to go to Paris and
report from the Olympics. So he's a very entertaining and
interesting man. So I'm looking forward to seeing me here Pete.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Whenever paying him worth it just to hearme say snoop
doo double g at the MCG like.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
He is amazing, He's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
That's a great signing.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Jennifer Anderson is a cover girl this Morning. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
This is a fantastic and very in depth interview that
she's done interview and photo shoot for Vanity Fair. I
guess this was the big first interview she's doing in
the lead up to the next drap of the Morning
Wars TV series. Great cover, isn't it? And inside there's
a whole range of stunning photos. It would have taken
several days to do. She covers a lot of territory
(04:09):
in it. She talks about her relationship with Brad and
it's a pretty good relationship to be honest. But she
does talk about at the time when she saw the
photographs of him with Angelina, how tough that was to
deal with. Also talks about a somewhat complicated relationship with
her father, John had died a couple of years ago,
how she was always determined and always seeking his approval. He,
(04:32):
of course, was an actor in his own right in
the daytime soapig world. I guess the story that's really
the breakout story her comments about Matthew Perry's death. Now,
when we take something out of the full context, out
of a very long interview, it can look almost a
bit cold. But I don't think in any way, shape
or form is what she meant. But when you see
(04:53):
the details of how it felt like we'd been mourning
Matthew for a long time, clearly things were a lot
worse than we ever really knew.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
And even though we thought he'd.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Been able to clean up his act, if you read
between the lines and what Jen's saying there, things weren't
good and it just seemed like a battle that ultimately
he was never going to win. But go online check
out the interview. I'm sure you'll be able to find
it pretty easily. And in this grab here what they've done.
They showed Jen some of the work Vanity Fair do
this really well. Where the star looks back at work
(05:26):
they've done, often from a long time ago, and sometimes
even they admit it's pretty cringeworthy, but not when it
comes to friends. Jen's clearly very proud of that work.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Really one of the highlights of my life. It sort
of set the tone for not only getting to work
with an incredible group of people that became my true family.
It was just brought so much joy to people, which
was something just doesn't always happen, sort of like lightning
in a bottle. On many, many levels, this was extremely
creatively satisfying. We always fantasize about what it would be
(05:59):
like to go back in time, but it just wouldn't.
It would never be the same.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
So really refreshing actually to hear someone be proud of
the big hit they had some years ago.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Now, yeah, it's the Morning Shows, Jennifer Aniston. Too great
to chat, Thanks so much.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Thanks catching later in the show.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
