Speaker 1 (00:03):
Can we begin this morning with developing news with police
in Melbourne now arresting all seven people allegedly involved in
that wild machete brawl at Northern Shopping Center on Sunday.
Three teenagers were rounded up yesterday along with two other men.
All seven are said to be known gang members who
had organized the fight ahead of time. It comes as

(00:24):
the Victorian state government and brings forward a ban on
the sale of machetes set to kick in at midday.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
To day to.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Breaking news on Brisbane's Bayside and a massive fire has
gutted several businesses, sending nearby residents running for their lives.
The fire broke out at Yamboyna Street in Manly around
six o'clock. It's understood nobody was injured, but business owners
have been left devastated. A toxic smoke warning was sent
out to residence in the area, with investigations now under

(00:55):
way to figure out how the blaze started. A Sydney
gangland associate caught up in Sunday's public shooting has died
after he was shot in the head. De Wood Zacaria
underwent surgery but couldn't be saved. Lawyer Sylvan Singh remains
in a stable condition after being shot in the arm.
The drive by shooting is one of thirteen crimes which

(01:18):
will now be investigated under a new mega task force
launched by police to tackle growing fears of violence.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
We will leave no stone unturned in pursuing you, no
matter whatever involvement you have in the commission of those jobs,
because we consider those periphery players in the commission of
those jobs as equally responsible as those who pulled the triggers.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
One hundred and fifty officers a part of Task Force Falcon,
which has already raided homes of violent criminals known to
carry guns. A housemate of missing Queensland teenager Phoebe Bishop
has been released on bail after police allegedly found guns
in her car, despite the case being unrelated and detectives

(02:02):
aren't ruling out links between the weapons and the seventeen
year old's suspicious disappearance, Police confirming they're doing ballistic testing
on the firearms. Tannica Bromley will appear before court again
in June while the search for Phoebe Bishop continues. Jurors
have finally heard from Aaron Patterson, the lunch host accused

(02:23):
of murdering three guests and trying to kill a fourth
with toxic mushrooms. Her recorded police interview was plane in
court as the last prosecution witness took the sand.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
After more than a month of evidence. Today, the jury
heard from the accused triple murderer. Video played from Aaron
Patterson's police interview, conducted by Homicide score detective Stephen Eppingstall
just days after the lunch. She told him she had
never foraged for mushrooms and she didn't own a dehydrator.

(02:55):
Miss Patterson described her in laws, Don and Gale Patterson
as the only family she had and the only grandparents
her children had left. They always said to me they'd
support me with love and emotional support, even though Simon
and I were separated, and I really appreciated that. I
think Simon hated that I had a relationship with his parents.

(03:17):
Earlier in the day, the jury also heard from another
homicide squad detective who led the search of Miss Patterson's home.
He told the court the mother of two had expressed
surprise when told one of her guests, Heather Wilkinson, had
died in hospital, and said he found a recipe book
with a beef Wellington recipe, which had cooking splatters on

(03:37):
the page. The jury also heard more from a public
health official about the department's investigation into the lunch that
initially held fears of a wider toxic mushroom outbreak. It
was found to be highly unlikely that the dried mushrooms
had been bought from an Asian grosser, as Miss Pattison
had claimed, with investigators unable to find anything matching her

(04:01):
description of the drive mushroom packaging. The department ultimately concluding
the lunch incident was an isolated one and the risk
to public health from storeboard mushrooms was very low Estellegreypink

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Just days after the Sydney train chaos that left thousands
stuck during peak hour, there's been another network meltdown, this
time on the Metro. Commuters faced major disruptions yesterday during
the afternoon peak after a power issue with a train
at Barangaruru station. All services were restored and operating as
normal by seven pm. The incident marks the third breakdown

(04:38):
in the system in less than a week. Three people
have escaped with minor injuries after a bus collided with
a truck in the Melbourne suburb of Oakley. Video shows
the moment the bus swerved into two parked cars before
crashing into a truck on Dandenong Road. Nobody was on
the footpath or inside the cars that were hit. The

(04:58):
driver of the bus and one of his passengers were injured,
as well as the driver of the truck. A man
who allegedly drove a car into a crowd in the
English city of Liverpool injuring fifty football fans has been
arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and drug driving. Let's
go live now to europe correspondent Ben Downey, Ben, do
we know how this driver got so close to the

(05:20):
parade route?

Speaker 2 (05:22):
General well Well Police have now provided an answer to
the question that from the lips of so many people
saying this fifty three year old white Liverpool born man
was able to tail an ambulance that was making its
way into the parade grounds as it passed through a roadblock.
The reason the ambulance was entering is it was actually
trying to treat someone who there were fears that actually
suffered a heart attack, and this happened only before this

(05:46):
man behind the wheel of the car drove down Water
Street in Liverpool around a two hundred and fifty meter stretch,
striking dozens of people. As people who were standing by
swung into action to try and prevent him driving and
even pool him out of the car. Emergency grews thankfully
we're nearby because of the parade and were able to
swing into action immediately, fire crews lifting the vehicle up

(06:09):
and removing four people who were trapped underneath it, Police
arresting the driver before locals took retribution, and of course
paramedics treating people at the scene and then transporting the
injured to hospital, who police provided an update about today.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
I can confirm on behalf of the National Health Service
that we are aware of fifty people who were treated
at hospital for ongoing treatment. Of those, eleven remain in
hospital for ongoing treatment. They are all in a stable
condition and I am pleased to say that they appear

(06:46):
to be recovering well.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
And Princess Anne was able to make her way to
Liverpool University Hospital today and actually meet with not only
the first responders but the medical staff as well that
were able to help people pay respects for their bravery
as well. That can also stop anyone from dying, which
appears to be one of the most astounding things to
come out of this tragedy. That man this morning continues

(07:11):
to be held in custody on suspicion of dangerous driving,
attempted murder and drug driving, but no charges at this
stage have been laid.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Emma been down in London. Thank you. A lawyer for
a former cansman accused of smuggling drugs into Bali says
he wants police to find the person who allegedly put
the forty three year old up to it. Lamar Aaron Archie,
the son of a former Queensland police officer, was allegedly
caught with one point eight kilograms of cocaine last weekday

or decades behind bars. An argument at a service station
has escalated dramatically in Country South Australia. The woman backing
up her white car with a damaged bonnet then ramming
it into the blue car in front. And it wasn't

(08:13):
just once. Over two minutes, the blue car was hit
ten times. A passenger inside was taken away by paramedics,
and the woman has been arrested. A new report has
dubbed the Gold Coast Australia's fastest growing city and it's
not just retirees making up the numbers. People under twenty
are increasingly calling the coast home and that's set to

(08:33):
rise further by almost forty percent over the next two decades.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
The report has really shine a light on the Gold
cost to be the place to come, invest, live and
bring up a family.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
The Deloitte report forecast the population will boom to one
million people by twenty forty. Checking Wednesday weather now mostly
