Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Straight to breaking news this morning, and police are hunting
a killer after a man was shot dead and another
was critically injured outside of popular Sydney pub. Officers say
the shooter opened fire around six forty yesterday evening outside
the Harold on Ross Street in Forest Lodge. Shocked witnesses
rushed into help, and.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Then I walked around the corner. I saw the guy
had beaten, that'd been shot.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
One of them had been shot, was light on the ground,
so I ran up to him. And then probably thirty
seconds later, some doctors and some other ladies are inside
the herowtote that tel came out as they started administering
first aid. Now that's when the police came.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
He had been shot like multiple times, at least sort
of had six times.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
He'd been shot in the neck, the chest, for acdorman, arms, legs,
just everywhere. One of the men died at the scene.
The shooter fled in a car and remains on the
run This morning. Meantime, police in the city's west to
hunting an ass after a stolen car was set on
fire in a quiet suburban street. It happened on Berkeley
Sweit at South Wentworthfield before one am firefighter is pretty

(01:09):
quick to bring it under control. Residents say the car
is not usually parked there and hadn't been seen earlier
in the evening. Police are now investigating whether the fire
may be linked to the earlier shooting. Victoria Police have
changed two teenagers and a twenty four year old man
after they allegedly terrorized a family in East Melbourne. Please
say five intruders stabbed a thirty nine year old father

(01:31):
eleven times with the machete, slashed his parents and threatened
his wife at knife point in Q East.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
There's no rhyme or reasoning in any of the targeting.
They've just chosen this house and they've just destroyed a family.
I think they're not used to people fighting back, and
this home owner fought back.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Two of vendors remain on the run, while their victim
is recovering in hospital with a fractured arm. He'll undergo
surgery for serious wounds to the face. And driver has
been charged with two counts of manslaughter after a man
and his son were killed in Logan, south of Brisbane.
The thirty three year old father and his four year
old son were on a walk to buy ice cream

(02:11):
from a service station yesterday morning when they are allegedly
struck and killed by youth in Regent's Park. The forty
one year old driver will face court today. The AFL
is reportedly set to launch a vilification probe after an
Adelaide Crow's player allegedly made an offensive slur towards a
Collingwood opponent in an emotionally charged match. On Saturday, Adelaide

(02:33):
superstar Isaac Rankin allegedly made a homophobic slur during a
heated Adelaide Oval clash with an unnamed player. It's expected
the AFL will interview the players allegedly involved. There's no
suggestion that Rankin made the comment, only that the allegation
has been made. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski will be joined

(02:53):
by several European leaders when he meets with President Donald
Trump at the White House. Our de Europe correspondent Jaquelin
Rober said in London, Jackie, they're presenting a united front
after the President's meeting with Vladimir Putin.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Eddie.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
This is really about sending a strong message to Donald
Trump that Europe stands behind Ukraine and its president, and
the number of leaders attending is quite extraordinary. Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Finland,
even the European Commission President and the NATO chief all
joining Vladimir's Lensky, just showing the level of concern. The

(03:29):
Ukrainian leader held a press conference today explaining his position.
Heading into the White House. He says there must still
be a ceasefire while a final peace deal is thrashed out.
Donald Trump walked back a ceasefire following his summit with
Vladimir Putin in Alaska. But what has come of that
meeting is apparently game changing concessions on a US security

(03:50):
guarantee for Ukraine. US Special en voice Steve Witkoff says,
Vladimir Putin has now agreed to it. It's something Zelenski
is chasing. Of course, he'll be high. This isn't a
repeat of his last visit to the Oval Office where
he was humiliated by Donald Trump. Let's take a listen
to him.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
It's impossible to do this under their preasure of weapons,
so it's necessary to cease fire and work quickly on
a final deal. We'll talk about it in Washington. Putin
does not want to stop the killing, but he must
do it.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
The Ukrainian leader says he won't be giving up any
territory that hasn't already been captured by Russia. He's calling
for real negotiations.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Eddie, Thank you, Jackie. China is being urged to take
urgent action against a citizen who allegedly threw a thermostful
of hot water on a Brisbane baby. The Chinese national,
not known to the family, is suspected of scolding the
nine month old baby at Hanlan Park in August last year.
The thirty three year old man was captured fleeing the scene,

(04:57):
but is protected from extradition under Chinese law. The infant
has faced multiple surgeries after he sustained bernth to sixty
percent of his body, including his face. A year on,
Queensland police are still reportedly pushing for Chinese authorities to
cooperate South Australian police for investigating a serious crash north
of Adelaide after the driver of a minibus allegedly lost

(05:19):
control of the vehicle. A group of students and their
lecturers were on a winery tour when their minibus rolled
into a creek bed in Williamstown near the Barossa Valley.
A twenty one year old man was taken to hospital
with spinal injuries. The driver and every other passenger on
the bus walked away unhurt. Anthony Aberizi has improved his

(05:40):
rating with voters. The latest newspole reveals a three percent
jump in his satisfaction rating, while opposition leader Susan Lee
suffered a two percent slide to minus nine. It puts
the PM's popularity a level not seen since twenty twenty three.
On a two party preferred basis, Labor holds a commanding
fifty six percent of the vote again, so the coalition's

(06:01):
forty four percent. The federal government's travel bill for ministerial
employees has been revealed, with taxpayers slugged millions of dollars lived.
Isabel Mullen in Canberra, is he wanting to you just
how much are we forking out?

Speaker 5 (06:16):
It's an eyewatering amount, Eddie, good morning, about twenty two
million dollars a year, that figure increasing by three million
dollars a year on year for about forty Labor ministers
and assistant ministers. Now, I should say all this spending
is above board. It's approved by the Parliamentary Committee and
it's for things like flights and hotels around Australia. I

(06:38):
should say that employees they can claim about three hundred
and eighty eight dollars a night for a hotel in Sydney,
and that's compared to about one hundred and thirty dollars
claimed if they're staying with family members or friends. So
we could say there's an incentive for them to spend
more money there. But the rules it's the same whether
labor or the Coalition is in power. No rules have

(07:00):
been broken, but it probably doesn't pass the pub test.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Eddie, no thank you Izzy. So the straining distilleries of
warning rising taxes will badly hurt the state's nightlife, with
the price of cocktails soon set to rise. From this month,
spirits with more than ten percent alcohol will be hiked
one point six percent in price under the alcohol excise
they so the average cocktail could soon set Australians back
twenty to twenty five dollars even at the cellar door.

(07:26):
It follows a tax freeze on beer from the tap
at pubs across the country. Employers could be forced to
give employees working from home six months notice before they
make them go back to the office. Under a fresh
union push, the Australian Services Union is calling for a
legal overhaul that would force businesses to give twenty six
weeks notice when trying to change or pause working from

(07:48):
home arrangements. Yes You says employers can't pull the rug
out from under employees and that working from home is
now a permanent feature of the modern Australian workplace. Millions
of Australians across the East Coast embracing for days of rain,
with a soggy start to the week forecast for Sunday.
For Sydney rather the harbourt City could see up to

(08:09):
one hundred billimeters of rain starting today, that's Monday. Port
McRory is tipped to see one hundred and five millimeters
between Tuesday and Thursday. Northern New South Wales may see
minor flooding, with residents urged to be on alert. Let's
get more in today's weather now run the Capital's Brisbane
partly cloudy in twenty two, Sydney showers and fifteen Cambra

(08:29):
morning frost and partly cloudy in fourteen. Melbourne partly claudy
in fourteen as well, Hobart cloudy in thirteen, Adelaide mostly
sundy in sixteen Perth mostly sunnay, and twenty three
