Speaker 1 (00:03):
The federal government has released its pre election budget, setting
up a bitter battle over the cost of living. Let's
go live to Isabel Mullen in Canberra. He's a good morning.
What's in the budget for us?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Gemma, good morning. Well, there are a couple of surprises
in the budget last night. The big one more than
seventeen billion dollars worth of tax cuts. The Federal Treasurer,
Jim Chalmers says that this means by midnext year, average
Australians will be hundreds of dollars better off. Labour now
hoping that this pitch to middle Australia will be enough

(00:35):
to keep the Prime Minister in the lodge.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Is Budget Bill.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
The Treasurer delivers his fourth and most important budget, the
government's chances of re election hanging on your.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Our economy is turning the corner.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
A year after controversially but successfully altering Stage three tax cuts,
Jim Chalmers announces two more rounds, putting more money into workers' pockets.
The catch Labour must win the election and the cuts
won't hit paypackets for sixteen months. The first stage up
to two hundred and sixty eight dollars from July next year.

(01:10):
The second from July twenty twenty seven. The total average
cut including Stage three two thousand, five hundred and forty
eight dollars, about fifty dollars a week, The cost seventeen
point one billion.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
The cost of living is front of mind for most Australians,
and it is front and center in this budget.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
The tax plan totally rejected by the.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Opposition seventy cents a day in a year's time, at
a time when Australian's standard of living has collapsed.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
The Reserve Bank meets next Tuesday, and while unlikely to
cut rates then, the budget provides more reasons to ease,
forecasting core inflation to four within the two to three
percent target range by July, six months early. The Australian
economy expected to grow by two point twenty five percent
next financial year. Despite the uncertainty of President Trump's tariffs.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
The twenty twenties have already seen in a global pandemic
global inflation are now the threat of a global trade war, trump.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Proofing the economy another three billion dollars for green metals production,
two billion for renewables, encouraging more made in Australia, and
twenty million for a by Australia campaign after two budget surpluses,
deficits galore, but smaller twenty seven point six billion this year,
forty two point one next year, not predicting a return

(02:26):
to balance for a decade.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
This plan is a recipe for failure under Labor.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Our economy and our budget are in better shape than
they were three years ago.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Setting the stage for an election that will be fought
on one central issue, the cost of living. All eyes
are now on the coalition, who will set out a
different pathway when Peter Dutton, the Opposition leader, hands down
his Budget reply speech later tonight, the Opposition now hoping
that this reply will stem any momentum that Labour has

(03:00):
been building in the lead up to the election.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Gemma Easy, thank you for those details. To breaking news
and the first major step towards peace. Russia and Ukraine
have agreed to a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea
Live to Europe correspondent Ben Downey, Ben, this is a
significant breakthrough.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
Good morning, Jemmy.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Yes, it is certainly one that's hoped will be the
first of many in a conflict that's raged for three
years now. And the White House announced this cease fire
between both nations after the brokers brought into Saudi Arabia
to strike this deal, with both nations Russia and Ukraine
agreeing to ensure safe navigation, eliminate the use of force,
and prevent commercial vessels from military purposes in the Black Sea.

(03:44):
Washington will also help return detained Ukrainian civilians and forcibly
transferred children. But the deal is really being interpreted as
a bigger win for Russia. Why well, the US has
in exchange, lifted sanctions on Russian agricultural products and peace
will allow Moscow to export through the Black Sea again,
whereas currently only Ukraine is able to. Also, the US

(04:05):
will reconnect Russia to Swift a banking communication network. Sounds small,
but effectively it means that Russian banks will be allowed
to trade in the West again. Now Zelenski says, if
put In violences agreement, the first thing he will do
was pick up the photo Don Trump and demand fresh
sanctions and more military and munitions for his army. The
deep distrust between both nations hardly providing fertile ground.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
For future cease fire breakthroughs.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Gemma ben Downey, thank you. Brisbane has overhauled its plans
for the twenty thirty two Olympics. The new stadium will
be built, spelling the death knell for the Gabba. Sports
will be spread across Queensland, including in crocodile infested waters,
stopping events going to other states, including New South Wales.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
More than one thousand days since they won the right
to host the Games. Another Olympic style backflip from Brisbane.
The time has come to just get on with it.
After committing to no new stadiums. There will be the
old Commonwealth Games Arena due to be upgraded, ditched, the
iconic Gabba hit for six two replaced by sixty three

(05:15):
thousand seed Olympic Stadium in Brisbane's inner city, Victoria Park,
a former golf course, the new home for cricket and
AFL post Games two, with a new aquatic center alongside it.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
The dreams that this is going to ignite is massive
and can't be understated.

Speaker 6 (05:31):
Sports will be stretched across eighteen hundred kilometers, sailing in
the Wit Sundays, hockey and triathlon on the Gold Coast
to Woomber to host horse sports, archery in Maryborough, football
in cans And Townsville, and rowing in Rockhampton's Fitzroy River
where the potential hazards include crocodiles.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
The sharks in the ocean rate and we still do
sailing and would also we still do surfing.

Speaker 6 (05:56):
There'll be three point four billion dollars in federal government
funding from the the AOC.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
We're just really delighted to have a plan that we're
going to all work to it.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
Now that record breaking eleven year head start Brisbane was
handed now as standard seven years to deliver the games
he had failed. Seven News.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
A heartless driver is on the run this morning after
a hit and run in Melbourne's West that left a
nine year old scarred and police in shock. Little boy
was hit by the driver, but wasn't seriously hurt.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
It's amazing that he didn't receive worse injuries after seeing
the footage. To be fair, he's got some abrasions, but
I think it's more mental injuries with him at the moment,
he's pretty shaken up. I would urge them to come
into the police station and speak to me about it.
There's nothing that we can't resolve.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
The boy's mother told seven News that she doesn't blame
the driver, but is frustrated they didn't stop to check
if her son was okay. A high ranking Queensland police
officer has disappeared after going for a surf off Byron Bay,
triggering a major search. Authorities began looking for Detective Inspector
Jane Ataro when his surfboard was found abandoned yesterday. The

on the areas between Lennox Head and Cape Byron. A
nineteen year old is under police guard in hospital this
morning after a dramatic end to a police chase in
Sydney's southwest. It started when Organized Crime Squad detectives tried

(07:30):
to stop the Toyota camery in chester Hill. The chase
ended when the teenager crashed into the front yard of
a home. In the process, he rammed another parked car
into the verandah, leaving the home badly damaged. Seven News
has quizzed a tear mp whose husband was caught tearing
down the campaign sign of a rival candidate in the

(07:51):
Battlegreatground Victorian seat of Couyong. Peter Jordan husband of Independent
Monique Ryan claimed the sign was illegally placed thereski.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
What do you think of your husband's decision to remove
the Liberal candidates signing Couyong. I don't have a comment
for you of common on that matter already?

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Do you think that was an appropriate thing to do?

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Could you please get your cameras away from me?

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Both mister Jordan and Ms Ryan have apologized. Three teenage
girls are on the run after a terrifying robbery in Adelaide.
The trio can be seen and pushing a convenience store
worker in the city, grabbing her and waving a knife
in her face. They threatened to kill her before stealing
thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes. Police are continuing to

(08:36):
search for the thieves this morning. Police are bracing for
hundreds of protesters to disrupt the Avalon Australian International Air
Show today across Melbourne and Geelong. Hundreds of demonstrators are
expected at the show from today. The same group caused
widespread disruption when it targeted the Landforces Expo in September.

(08:57):
Despite the presence of around a dozen protesters, the show's
aerial displays went smoothly yesterday Australian country music legend Troy
cassa Daily has made history at the twenty twenty five
