Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
First to breaking news this morning, and a man who
allegedly led police on a while pursued and a stolen
Woolworths truck has been charged police. The twenty nine year
old driver stole the truck from Bankstown in Cities West,
hitting four cars during the eighty kilometer cross city chase
before being cornered in the Blue Mountains.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Then kicking and punching away at the police guys.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
I thought I saw a couple of punches by the
police because he was punching at them.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
The alleged driver suffered minor injuries during the arrest. He's
been charged with a string of offenses, including robbery while
armed with a weapon. To Melbourne Now, where police are
urgently hunting an armed attacker on the run after stabbing
at a home in the city's northwest. A man in
his sixties was attacked during a home invasion on Trentam
Drive in Gladstone Park around one point.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Thirty this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
He's been taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the attack are still under investigation. Have
opened fire on one of Queensland's busiest roads, spraying at
least one car with a shotgun at Mauranba downs the
concrete was on his way home when his four wheel
drive was hidden. He told seven News about the moment

(01:13):
he saw the barrel of a gun.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Leaning out the window while speeding up the Bruce Highway.
An armed man opens fire.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Shot a man.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I've seen the barrel come out and I just bang.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
I'm like, oh no, aiming his rifle at a concrete
on his way home from work.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
They just drove roaring up behind me.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
They tailgated and taunted him, deliberately hitting the thirty one
year old's wide miss and Navara.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I've gone to go left and then they've tried to
spin me out, and then I've tried to pull over,
and then they've come up beside me, shown me the gun,
and then I've hit the brakes. They've gone in front
of me, smashed on their brakes. I've rear ended them,
and then I've just tried to stay back, got the
camera out, started video on and yeah, it's pretty full on.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
The shooting sparked an hour long police shape driving this
black commodore forty kilometers from the highway to the hills
that end on a property in Armstrong. Creek. The pair
arrested by the dog squad. It's understood both were bidden.
One was taken to hospital. The commodore had been running

(02:30):
on its rims for kilometers after officers deployed tire spikes.
It will now be taken away for forensic testing. Their
victim wasn't physically harmed. Relieved to make it home safe.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, very lucky. It could have ended way worse, like
if I had it freaked out on that bridge, like
anything could have happened.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
If the two gunmen are in custody with charges pending.
Jordan Quinn, seven US.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
A date has been set for the next stage in
high Country killer Greg Lynn's push to overturn his murder conviction.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Lynn was sentenced to thirty two years in jail.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Last October for the shooting murder of seventy three year
old camper Carol Clay. In March twenty twenty, a jury
acquitted him of murdering missus Clay's lover, seventy four year
old Russell Hill if heel hearing has been set down
for October thirty one. A security floor in the Victorian
governments working with Children app is allowing unauthorized people to

(03:23):
illegally access others working with children checks. The loophole is
allowing the system to be bypassed using a dummy QR code.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
The Saint Government Sanctioned Services Victoria app.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Allows Victorians to store their IDs on their phones. Through
the loophole, a predator can use another person's details to
gain their own validation. It comes as thousands of children
link to accused pedophile Joshua Dale Brown have been cleared
of any.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Sexually transmitted diseases.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Meantime, federal parliament has introduced new laws to crack down
on dodgy childcare operators failing to protect our children. The
second legislation to be introduced yesterday will pull a center's
share of sixteen billion dollars in federal funding for major
breaches like exposing children to abuse. Santas will be named
and shamed for smaller breaches too. The Trump administration has

(04:17):
ramped up its attack on former US President Barack Obama,
declassifying new documents that it claims proves he orchestrated the
so called Russia hoax. Like the US correspondent Rob Scott, Rob,
what did the documents show?

Speaker 6 (04:31):
Mornie Eddie Well, the Director of National Intelligence TULCI Gabbard
says these newly declassified documents show that former President Barack
Obama ordered what she says was the creation of false
or fake intelligence that Russia's president Vladimir Putin interfered in
the twenty sixteen election to help Donald Trump win. She
says that this false intelligence was manipulated and politicized to

(04:54):
launch a year's long smear campaigns against Donald Trump and
undercut his victory against Hillary Clinton. She says that this
information showed that while Putin did want to interfere in
the US democratic process, he had no preference for either candidate.
She says that this report actually shows that Putin expected
Hillary Clinton would win and held back the release of
damaging material about her until after her expected win to

(05:18):
delegitimize her presidency, which she says the CIA deliberately did
not disclose.

Speaker 7 (05:24):
President Obama directed an intelligence community assessment to be created
to further this contrived, false narrative that ultimately led to
a year's long coup to try to undermine President Trump's presidency.

Speaker 6 (05:39):
Now, Donald Trump has accused Barack Obama of treason and
he wants criminal charges brought against the former president, but
for his part, Barack Obama is standing by that intelligence report.
He says these claims are outrageous, they are bizarre, and
they are simply an attempt to distract from the Jeffrey
Epstein scandal.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Eddie, Thank you, Rob.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
The Albanezi GUV has reportedly lifted restrictions on US b
formoving Donald Trump's biggest bargaining chip and is push to
smash Australia with huge tariffs. The Financial Reviewers reporting the
US government was told about the move last night. The
government will use the relaxation to argue for the US
to ease back on the fifty percent tariff on steel
and aluminium and its thread of a two hundred percent

(06:21):
tariff on pharmaceuticals. A freak tornado has left an incredible
trailer destruction in one of Per's most prestigious suburbs, destroying
multimillion dollar homes and leaving streets resembling war zones. Wild
weather hit the city on Wednesday afternoon, in particular City Beach,
where several homes lost their roofs and experienced other severe damage. Thankfully,

(06:43):
nobody was heard. A strong wind warning was in place
on Wednesday night for the Wa coast hundreds of public
hospital doctors a walk off the job next week as
their pay dispute with the South Australian government reaches a stalemate.
A stop work meeting was held at Flinders Medical Center yesterday,
where doctors voted to push ahead with industrial action. The

(07:03):
state government offered a ten percent pay rise over three years,
but the union is adamant its members deserve a thirty
percent increase. A crucial meeting will take place at South
dnoon with government mediators in a last minute bid to
stop the strike. Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison has appeared
before US Congress to lobby for the Orcist submarine, deallying

(07:25):
to Josh Martin in Canberra, Josh, he's pushing the deal
as a.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Counter to China's growing influence.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Morty Eddie, Yeah, that's right, these ex prime ministers of
ours and never far from the headline. Scott Morrison telling
a US Congressional committee that China's recent charm and flattery
mass long term ill intent. Relations between Beijing and Camera
plummeted during Scott Morrison's time in office when he pushed
for an investigation into how the COVID pandemic began and

(07:53):
Whilst economic and diplomatic relations have improved under Anthony Albanesi,
China is still engaging in aggressive military acts towards Australia.
We saw it in February Chinese ship circumnavigate Australia. Scott Morrison,
who launched the Orcas submarine deal whilst he was PM,
has told Congress we must never become casual about the
threat posed by Beijing. Also night, Australia has paid another

(08:18):
eight hundred million dollars to the Trump administration for the
Orcas submarines. That's despite the Trump Administration reviewing the deal.
Atdie a perilous time in global affairs.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Ctly is thank you.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Josh Soon revealed that only three New Zealanders have signed
up to the Australian Defense Force a year since the.

We're allowed to join the ADF.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Also flag this will be extended to the UK, US
and Canada. Only three Kiwis have joined in the year since,
and none from the other nations. The Queensland government has
called on sporting codes to contribute as much funds as
possible for the state's multi billion dollar Olympic venues, the
Victoria Park Stadium. The Infrastructure Minister has said the state

(09:04):
will provide seven point one billion dollars in funding alongside
federal cash. He says there are chances for the private
sector and sports codes like AFL and Cricket to chip.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
In as well.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
While staying true to one of his election promises, Anthon
Awbernizi will table a freeze on beer taxes today to
help curb the cost of living. The PM confirmed the
indexation on beer would freeze for two years from next month,
in what he calls a huge win for the hospitality
industry and beer lovers alike.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
But there's a snag.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Only beer coming from the tap will benefit from the freeze,
so you can expect bottle beer and drink from the
bottle shop to keep rising in price. Southeast Queensland is
bracing for a burst of rain through the Sunday. Brisbane
could see up to fifty millimeters of rain across the
next four days. A cold front is also moving over
the southeast, sending temperatures plummeting. The wet weather is tipped

(09:57):
to peak on Saturday, with rain forecast across the state.
Let's check today's weather now across the country. Sunny in
Brisbane and twenty one before that, wild weather hits sunny
in Sydney and seventeenth in morning, frosts and sunny and
canber And thirteen degrees, mostly sunny in Melbourne and sixteen
